His car stopped in front of the famous event center, there were a lot of expensive cars, with valet boys going up and down collecting car keys and parking the cars for their owners
Even from inside his car he could hear chattering and muffled noises from the background, he could see the flashing lights of cameras all over the place
He sighed out, looked at his wristwatch and opened the car door before stepping out. It was much more crowded outside than he imagined. The red carpet was filled with different people, prestigious men and elegant women walked up and down the red carpet, taking pictures and answering questions.
He adjusted his tie and took long strides and walked towards the red carpet, he wasn't really a fan of things like this, the attention wasn't really necessary, so many eyes at him all at once. It made his skin crawl with anxiety.
He let out a deep breath as one of the cameras flashed his eyes, he composed himself, not stopping he headed straight towards the entrance. He could hear different voices from the media people there, all asking different questions all at once.
The same questions they always asked whenever he went to events like this. Why he didn't come with a plus one? Or who his plus one is? He ignored them all and opened the double doors to the huge hall and stepped in.
The air became chillier as he let out a sigh of relief. Shutting his eyes and slightly clenching his jaw. His eyes scanned through the huge halls, it was beautifully decorated with blue and white shiffon clothes covering the window and the huge pillars on each corner of the hall, tiny blue and white bow ties adorned the stage.
The huge yellow chandelier up in the ceiling of the hall, had two set colors of lights, white and yellow glass bulbs glowed around it.
He looked back down and almost lost his balance as someone grabbed his arm and locked theirs with it, his eyes trailed to the figure and he almost puked at the annoying smile she had on.
"Good evening Nate" she purred smiling at him as he assessed her face, she had too much make up on, her lips were excessively red due to the heavy lipstick she had on and the smell of her perfume was suffocating, it was like she bathed in it. He sighed and shut his eyes.
He never should have asked her to be his plus one, but he really didn't have a choice. He looked at her dress and it was completely backless, showing everything all the way down to her waist.
He just grunted in response and scanned the huge halls, he could already see people mingling and socializing, giving each other fake smiles and unnecessary compliments. He could recognize a few, but others he just was seeing for the first time.
"Shall we"? Her high pitched voice reached his ears and he grimaced before nodding and walking away with her in his arms, he didn't like how close she was to him, it suffocated him. His palms were getting sweaty, and his tie felt tighter, he was thinking of ways to get her off his hands, so he could breath properly.
He was headed towards the bar, at least there he could finally get away from her, while they both walked towards the bar at the right side of the huge hall, he avoided making conversations with anyone, most of the people here only knew his father anyway, they wouldn't recognize him easy, so it was easy for him to slip between them without being forced to smile and make conversation like the business man his father must have painted him to be.
He picked up a glass of water from one of the trays a server held while passing them, soon they both stopped at the bar counter, there was a guy there, he didn't look to be old but older than Nate. He was black, tall and muscular.
He leaned his back on the counter and she stood just beside him, clinging onto his arm like a leach.
Spade stood at the entrance of the hall, his eyes not even looking at the decorations, he didn't care about all that, infact he wouldn't be here if it wasn't very necessary.
He didn't even plan on coming here, plans changed last minute. Which is why Matteo was the only one he brought with him, Matteo was the only one that knew they'd be here tonight. He couldn't risk the mole finding out.
His eyes raked through the large hall, watching every single one of them there, some talking and laughing, others making new connections and some just loitering around with a drink in hand.
Matteo stood just beside him, his eyes scanned through the room, and stopped abruptly at the bar on the far right end of the hall. He sucked in a breath as he zeroed in on the person standing there, the person who's been invading his thoughts for the past two days.
He felt his body tense, as Nate's eyes moved around the hall, he didn't want to have an encounter with him but deep down his bones and cells twitched with anticipation and anxiousness, for Nate's eyes to land on him.
He could feel his fingers twitch as Nate's eyes raked through the room, bored, tired and lost, like always. He wanted them to land on him, those brooding brown eyes, to look at him, to stare in surprise, to cower away in fear and nervousness but it never came.
Nate's eyes just looked around, not once stopping at him, he didn't even see him. He clenched his jaw and his eyes narrowed at the figure beside him, a slender, curvy and attractive young woman. But Spade didn't think she was attractive, with her hands clutching onto Nate's tightly like her life depended on it.
Her lips kept moving, which meant she was talking to him, He was watching them both with keen interest. Something in him wasn't settled. This was the first time he'd be seeing Nate with a woman and it didn't feel right. Who was she to Nate? Why didn't he see her in the file if information about Nate?
He was still trying to calm his heartbeat that had some how increased when the woman's hands went up to Nate's chest and her slender fingers trailed and toyed with his tie seductively.
He growled lowly, barely audible for anyone else to hear, his hands balled into a fist on his side, as he felt his body get hot from within, his blood was beginning to boil with something very strange.
He'd never been so bothered about anything as much as what he was seeing bothered him Matteo on the side was just watching him, his eyes followed Spade's line of vision and he sighed out seeing Nate there with another woman.
He looked back at Spade and he saw the way he clenched his jaw, his whole body was tense and rigid. He looked like a ticking time bomb just standing there, waiting to explode.
Nate was still trying to get this woman off his side, this was getting too much. He kept thinking of an excuse to give to her so he could escape.
He sighed out again for the tenth time as his eyes moved through the room, he wasn't really doing anything here, maybe he could just ditch it and go home.
Besides he still had a lot on his mind, his sister's situation and the fact that Spade had somehow managed to avoid seeing him for the past two days now.
He was running out of time, and he was running fast. While his eyes raked through the room, he felt different, conscious and alert.
His senses had hightened and the hair on his skin stood up He felt eyes on him, hard, strong eyes on him. It literally clawed on his skin, like he was being lasered.
His eyes quickly scanned the whole room and he sucked in a laboured breath as his eyes came face to face with dark, soulless brooding ones, staring right back at him, more like glaring at him.
With his perfect jaw clenched tight, and his eyes blazing with an unfamiliar fire that burned his skin.
He swallowed as Spade's jaw ticked, his broad shoulders barely fit into the suit he was putting on, black like his soul.
The whole noise around them both seized as they both stared at each other. One with a hard, dark and empty gaze as if he would kill him that moment, while the other with a fearful, lost and scared eyes, feeling his whole body recoil back in fear, wishing he could hide away from the burning gaze of the man standing at the entrance of the hall.
Nate suddenly felt a pull at his hands and he snapped out of it, slowly willing himself to look away from Spade's burning gaze, looking down at the woman beside him, he had almost forgotten that he was with someone as she was talking his ear down
"What's wrong"? She asked and he sighed out before looking back up at where Spade had been just a few seconds ago and it was empty, everything had suddenly gone back to normal, the whole chattering and light music in the hall had resmued back as if he didn't just have a stare down with the Almighty Spade.
"Nothing" he muttered before slowly peeling her hands off his, he could see the disappointment in her eyes and the grimace of disapproval she had on, but he didn't care at the moment
He looked around the hall again, somehow hoping he'd find Spade in the crowded hall but it came back futile, he couldn't feel anything anymore, no tingling senses, no burns on his skin
It was like Spade had suddenly disappeared from the hall, or maybe he was just hallucinating and he didn't see Spade just now. He sighed out, shaking his head. He was sure he saw him at the entrance, even if his eyes were deceiving him, his other senses didn't, he could still feel how his skin burned at Spade's gaze.
He picked up the glass of water on the counter and drank it all in one gulp, slowly giving his parched throat a wet feeling
Spade didn't look away, even when Nate looked away, it felt like an invincible glue was holding his stare on Nate.
The moment Nate's eyes rested on him earlier on he could feel his tense shoulders relax, it felt like a heavy weight had been lifted off his chest, the slight constriction he felt when he saw him earlier on simply disappeared, he felt like he could finally breathe.
Basking in the ambience and peacefulness of those brown eyes. But now Nate had looked away, back at the woman on his side.
Spade could feel the burning sensation in his whole body, his bone marrow, every cell in his body, felt like they were fighting him, fighting to feel that ease again
This had never happened before and it felt strange to him, because for one he couldn't even understand what was going on, why he was suddenly feeling this way. How could his whole senses suddenly become disorganized by just one person
In a way Nate got under his skin, riled him up and interested him all at the same time He felt like he needed to figure him out, know all there is to know about him and at the same time he wanted to forget about him, ignore his very existence, discard him like he does to everyone in his life. He meant nothing to him, his father was his main target and he had to stay focused.
"Find anything"? He heard Matteo's voice from beside him and he sighed out before tearing his gaze away from Nate and looking at Matteo, shaking his head. Matteo kissed his teeth with his tongue and looked around the hall his eyes briefly glancing at Nate. "So what's with the Miller kid"? He asked and Spade just grunted ignoring him He looked at him and almost rolled his eyes "what? Don't think I didn't notice how you've been glaring or should I say staring at him all evening like he stole your toy" he muttered looking around the hall
He didn't owe Matteo an explanation but he suddenly felt his neck heat up and he cleared his throat, and needed to correct Matteo, he wasn't staring at Nate
"I was keeping an eye on him, something you should be doing but apparently you're not" he grumbled out with a bored expression
Matteo rolled his eyes and made a funny face "Yeah, tell yourself that" he muttered, Spade sighed out shoving his hands into his pocket.
He opened his mouth to say something and Matteo just put his hands up stopping him, his face morphed into irritation, he hated being interrupted or cut short
"Hold that thought" Matteo muttered before quickly walking away from where they stood, into the crowd, Spade watched him with confusion as his blonde hair got lost in the crowd of dancing men and women.
Spade sighed out, his eyes landed on Nate again and he was still looking at the young lady by his side With clenched jaw, he just walked away from the entrance of the hall, disappearing into the crowd.
