He drove as if his very life depended on it, violating all the rules and regulations of driving, he finally stopped the car in front of the apartment building, he didn't even know how he got here sane and in one piece, with his mind spiralling out of control.

He looked at the building, letting out a deep breath, he opened the door and stepped out of the car, he headed straight into the building, ignoring the pounding of his heart, everything in him screamed in turmoil, what if something has happened to Nate?

He quickly shook his head, ignoring the man at the front desk in the lobby, he walked towards the elevator, he pressed it and waited for it to open, he looked right and left, remembering the last time he'd come here, that was what started all this.

Maybe he shouldn't have moved the marriage thing forward, because if he didn't then maybe he'd still have so many chances and reason to still see, and talk to Nate.

He wouldn't be here pulling his hair losing his mind, worrying if the kid was okay or if he was walking into a trap, a trap set by Greg with the help of Nate.

He sighed out as he pushed that thought away, he didn't wanna believe Nate was like that. The elevator doors opened and he stepped inside, pressing the button to Nate's floor, perks of being the owner of the building, he knew where everyone lived, he waited until the elevator doors closed before shoving his hands into his pockets.

Staring at himself through the elevator doors, he sighed out and shut his eyes. This was not how he planned it to fan out, when he moved the marriage thing closer. He did it in hopes of getting rid of the pull he was feeling for Nate but he only made it worse, because now he could no longer deny it to himself.

Being on this elevator with a million things on his mind but the main thing being that he was worried, even if it was just a little bit for Nate, he knew he couldn't deny it to anyone more and he couldn't run from it. He realized now that running from it was only making it worse.

The more he ran from it, the stronger it became and the more it drove him crazy. The elevator dinged, indicating he was at his designated floor, the doors pulled open and he stepped out.

He walked briskly and smartly towards Nate's apartment door, he stopped in front of it, inhaling a deep breath, mentally preparing himself for what he'd meet on the other side of these doors. He clenched his jaw tightly, before he tapped the passcode on the keypad, hearing the sounds of the keys as he tapped away, he heard the click sound and the door creaked a notch open

He slowly pushed it, letting his legs step in first, before his body emerged inside the living room, his eyes hadn't looked anywhere else, as he stepped into the room completely and the door closed behind him, making the same soft clicking sound.

His eyes raked through the room before they landed on the figure on the floor, his whole body froze as he just stood there, unmoving and feeling his blood run dry and his whole nerves and body tense.

His lips parted slightly as he felt the air being sucked out of him, his throat become parched as he watched Nate lay down there, almost lifeless as he didn't move.

As if something had snapped inside of him, he rushed forward and crouched down beside Nate, he quickly reached his hand out and turned his face up, he gasped out as he saw the state of his face

He felt everything still with time as he watched him, his eyes bruised and swollen, almost purple, his lips busted, his jaw swollen and part of his face filled with dried blood, the side of his head almost bashed in as blood had dried on the surface.

His body was almost cold and lifeless, if not for the small rise and fall of his chest, Spade would have thought he was dead, he felt his heart beat rise, beating and thumping hard, pounding and threatening to rip through his chest.

He couldn't breathe properly as he watched Nate with his eyes closed, he pulled him closer to his chest, craddling his head. He let out a shaky breath, this was too much for him, not because he hadn't seen or done worse to people but because he didn't like the feeling that settled in his chest watching Nate like this

He always threatened to kill him but he never really meant it, he would never even harm a hair on Nate's perfect head, but someone had done this to him. He clenched his jaw as he felt his fingers twitched and tremble in anger.

He pulled out his phone and dialed the number of his personal doctor, placing the phone on his ears, his eyes drifted to Nate in front of him, he looked vulnerable and helpless, staring something in Spade.

On the second ring, the doctor picked up "Mr DeVille" he muttered almost sounding surprised.

"Where are you"? He asked almost face palming himself at how disorganized those words came out, without waiting for the man to respond he was quick to add "I'm gonna send an address to you right now, I need you here in 3 minutes" he ordered and without waiting for the man to answer he ended the call and quickly typed the address to the apartment building and pressed the send button, watching as the text ticked twice, showing it had been delivered.

He shoved the phone into his pocket, before he slowly and gently put his hand under Nate's thighs and the other one under his back, lifting him up gently, he held him bridal style, the kid barely weighed much as he didn't even feel like he held him.

He looked at his bruised face again, clenching his jaw and feeling the anger almost over take him, he quickly looked away, he headed for Nate's room, walking slowly with him in his arms.

He felt so many strings tug at his heart, he kicked the door open and walked in, he headed for the neatly made bed, he dropped Nate on it gently. He sat on the side of the bed, one at a time he took off his shoes, and dropped them on the side.

He stood up and let his eyes drink in the state of the room, remembering how he had almost watched Nate go completely naked in this very room on his computer screen. He shook his head, wrong timing. This was not how he imagine his first time being in Nate's room would be like

He walked towards the bathroom, pushing the door open, he stepped inside, it didn't look like much, not as much as his and definitely not as fancy as his, but it was okay, quite okay for someone as simple as Nate

He walked towards the sink, with his eyes looking around, he saw a rack with two small towels on it and a big one.

He pulled one of the small towels, turning on the faucet, he placed the small towel on it and soaked it with water, he turned off the faucet and walked out of the bathroom with the towel in his hand.

He clenched his jaw, seeing Nate again with his bruised up face, his hands holding the towel held it tighter as he felt his anger slowly building up again.

He sat on the bed gently, hearing a low creaking sound, he brought the towel up and started cleaning off the dried blood on Nate's face.

His mind asked a lot of questions but none was important at the moment, he just wanted Nate to be okay first, for him to wake up.

****

He pulled the door open and the middle aged man walked in, wearing casual clothes and holding a small briefcase with him. "Mr DeVille" he muttered standing in front of Spade, he closed the door and shifted his focus back on the man in front of him.

"Follow me" was all he said before leading the way towards Nate's bedroom, while the doctor followed behind him, he pushed open the door and they both walked in.

He felt his chest tighten as he saw Nate laying on the bed unmoving, he clenched his jaw as he led the doctor towards the bed.

The man set his briefcase on the side of the bed on the table, he looked at Nate, examining him before facing Spade again "What happened to him"? He asked as Spade just stood with his hands folded across his chest.

"Frego, if I knew, then I wouldn't have called you" he muttered with his voice coming out hard, as he glared at the man, being an old and almost long time doctor and confidant of Spade, he wasn't really threatened or afraid of the young man. He was also one of the few people Spade could trust, even if not 100%, he could still trust him a little.

The man sighed out before turning around again and facing Nate, he slowly stretched his hands and turned Nate's face, looking at the bruises on his cheek. Spade didn't mean to snap, it wasn't Frego's fault that something like this had happened, but his anger was at an edge at the moment and he was really trying hard to control it.

He leaned away from Nate's body, turning around again to face Spade "I'm gonna need to take off his shirt, is that okay"? He asked, this alone made Spade's stare to harden as he felt something settle in his chest, conflicting and making him doubt if he should let Frego take off Nate's shirt, but he needed to do it if he wanted to find out to what extent Nate was hurt. He just nodded clenching his jaw.

The man nodded at Spade before turning around to face Nate, gingerly and gently, he knelt on the bed and started taking off Nate's shirt, it was covered in blood, specs and droplets of blood, stained the shirt.

He spread it open and on the side of Nate's stomach, just above his chest, around his rib area, was a huge purple bruise there, Spade suddenly grew hot, feeling his whole body tense, and not because he was staring at Nate's almost naked body, and pale chest, but because he didn't like that someone had done this to Nate.

He balled his hands into a fist, and involuntarily clenched his jaw for the millionth time tonight, he could feel a growl threatening to spill as he watched the doctor use his hands to gently touch and examine the bruise mark.

He didn't like how the man's hands moved around Nate's body, but he knew he was only being professional and doing his job

"He seems to have broken a few bones here, but not something fatal, maybe from a kick or a rather particular fall, but I doubt any fall could do this much damage" he muttered, adjusting his glass on the bridge of his nose. "The bruises on his face obviously indicted a physical tussle, maybe a fight, nothing broken from that" he added, before getting up and opening his briefcase, he brought out a bottle of some sort and a few other things Spade wasn't paying attention to.

All that he could still hear was the fact that this was in fact a beating or a fight Someone had done this. It was no accident. He grounded his teeth in frustration.

"I'm gonna give him some injection to ease the pain he'll feel when he wakes up, and an ointment to ease the swelling on his torso, but he'll have to come in for a scan when he's conscious" he muttered, not looking at Spade, he quickly administered the injections and rubbed the ointment where required, before putting it inside the briefcase again.

He starts buttoning Nate's shirt but Spade is quick to stop him. "Don't bother about that, leave it" he almost snapped, feeling his fingers twitch. The man looked at him from his glasses before nodding and standing straight

He looked at Spade, walked close to him and stopped right in front of him. "He's gonna wake up in..." He paused looking at his wrist watch "a few hours time, and he's probably gonna be in a lot of pain but the injections will help with that and also I left some painkillers on the bedside, he should take them when he wakes up, but take an advise from a professional, he should get an x-ray, to be sure nothing serious was damaged" he muttered, Spade just nodded in understanding, letting his eyes land on Nate again.

He sighed out and looked at the doctor "Thank you Frego" he muttered out feeling his nerves relax a bit, Frego was a literal life saver. The old man nodded and patted Spade's shoulder before walking out the door, leaving Spade standing there with his hands folded across his chest as he watched the sleeping pale unconscious man.

He was itching, feeling the anger inside him take the best of him. He was going to find out who did this and he would kill them, but for now he would wait, wait until Nate woke up, just to be sure he was okay.

He clenched his jaw and folded the sleeves of his shirt, before pulling himself close to the bed and gently sitting down on the side, watching as Nate's chest rose and fell with each breath he took.

😥😥😥

I like the fact that Spade could see now that he was wrong about Nate, and that he was starting to care
