Spade was the first to sit down, before Nate followed suit, placing himself on the chair just beside Spade, the armrest was joined together in a way that when Nate placed his hand on the armrest, he jolted when he felt it on semi soft and semi hard, large hands. "Sorry" he mumbled out feeling his neck and face heat up in embarrassment and the sweet feeling that came with skin contact with Spade.
Spade didn't say anything, he just brought down his hand leaving the space between them empty, he wanted Nate to have it, he could go without putting his hand there, but by the slight clench in his jaw, making his face go from soft to hard like an egg being cooked, Nate thought he'd offended him again by touching his hand.
He shifted deeper into the seat as his eyes moved from Spade and landed on the field, the players weren't there yet so the field was empty, it looked somewhat like a football pitch but there were no goal posts, and it wasn't as big as a football pitch
He placed his hands into the pocket of his hoodie "Do you want anything before they start"? Spade's deep and husky voice reached his ears, his head whipped quickly as his eyes matched Spade's eyes, warmth swirled in them, his face was no longer hard like it was a few minutes ago, it was now much calmer and gentle.
Nate didn't miss the way Spade's voice had touched something inside him, igniting a sweet fire and sensation, he rubbed his fingers together inside his pocket, feeling the moist on them.
He swallowed wanting to nod his head before remembering the last two time he had done that and Spade had asked him to use his words, the man definitely didn't like that, maybe it irritated him or pissed him off "No I'm good" he whispered barely opening his mouth but Spade heard him as he let his eyes linger on him a second longer before his eyes moved from Nate, finally allowing him to breath, Spade looked at the pitch and the players were already filing out with their helmets in their hands
He turned to look at Nate and he saw the way his eyes stared with awe, as he watched the players, rugby players were very muscular people, as the game required a certain amount of force to actually win it. It was a pretty violent game. He clenched his jaw as he wanted to shift Nate's attention to him and him alone, he didn't want him oogling at the men on the field with their squared shoulders and protruding chests, he also had a beautiful body, Nate could stare at him all day long if he wanted to.
He leaned in closer to Nate, the scent of the young man's cologne invading his nose, making him want to close his eyes and drift away into the clouds
"There are 15 players on each team" he said watching as Nate stared at him, he noticed it for a split second, Nate's eyes darted to his lips and then back to his eyes, Spade's eyes moved back to the field "You see those eight players taking position in front, in football they're called defenders, but in rugby they're in the tight scrum" he muttered pointing to the field as Nate's eyes followed his fingers landing in the eight players he was talking about, Spade's eyes were already on him before he nodded in understanding "The remaining seven players are the ones moving across the field, taking position in open spaces" he further explained as Nate only nodded again.
Spade had always been a fan of Rugby, he loved the game, as a kid he remembered a few times he'd watched the game on TV, and as a teenager he'd snuck out on a few occasions to some games.
He always wished his father would take him to one of their game when he was just a boy, but it never happened. This was always where he spent his free time whenever he got any.
With his eyes on the field, Nate had his own eyes on Spade as he watched him, seeing another side of Spade he didn't think he'd see, since the beginning of this week, Spade had been surprising him time and time again, showing him new parts about him that Nate would never guess Spade had.
He could almost see the excitement on Spade's face, he wanted to smile at it, it felt heartwarming seeing Spade come out of his cold, heartless, emotionless shell. A particular question plagued his mind, was Spade only ever cold around him? Or was he the one always seeing Spade as nothing but cold and heartless? He shook his head, no Spade is always like that with everyone. But what was suddenly making him change and be this soft person, that looked excited over a rugby game, that brought front row tickets for him, that asked if he wanted anything, he was even taking his time to explain how the game works to Nate.
He swallowed letting those questions run through his mind, maybe Spade had an ulterior motive, maybe he wanted something from him, that was why he was being this nice
Spade felt Nate's eyes on him from behind, he felt hot, he turned around and found Nate looking at him softly, but curiously. He could almost see the gears turning inside that head of his covered in beautiful brown curls.
He leaned back close to him, looking down at him with the most soft and gentle look he could muster up "are you okay"?
Nate just swallowed and looked up at him, eyes like honey, swirling and shimmering under the lights inside the stadium "Yeah" he whispered back at Spade
"The game's about to start" Spade muttered to him and he just looked at the field, watching each team take position, he didn't even know which team Spade was supporting, he moved his eyes back to Spade, rubbing his thumb across his sweaty palms, trying not to freak out and give himself a little courage to ask the question he wanted to ask. Since they'd left the house Spade had been the one making the small talks and engaging him in conversation, he wanted to at least say something, anything that would make him seem interested in the game and the effort Spade put in this outing.
He bit on his lower lip, Spade's eyes quickly moved there, Nate noticed his eyes had gone dark and his pupils looked dilated as he clenched his jaw hard. This made Nate to second guess if he should ask him the question, seeing Spade's facial expression was making him have second thoughts, he didn't wanna upset the man in front of this much people, he was unpredictable and could do something to him.
He swallowed hard before his eyes moved back to Spade, he was now looking at him in the eyes and not on his lips, his eyes had gone from dark to warm. He let out a breath discreetly "Which one is your team"? He asked lowly, he was hoping Spade didn't hear, as he turned around and faced the field.
Nate was already mentally feeling his shoulders sag and the disappointment kick in, why was he so pathetic, he couldn't even make up conversation with Spade, he was making this whole thing a disaster already. He only ever has a loud mouth with Spade whenever he's angry.
Spade felt his lip tilt in a smile, watching Nate fret and whisper was something that amused him, he liked mouthy Nate, but meek and shy Nate was another whole level of cute He looked at the field and then he leaned back closer to Nate "They're the ones in red" he muttered, watching as Nate's eyes left his laps and went to the field, as he nodded slowly before shifting his attention back to Spade
Spade looked at him for a good ten seconds before he asked him "are you sure you don't want anything before the game starts"?
Nate looked around seeing most of the armrests of occupied seat were filled with beer and others had popcorns with them, he didn't want anything, especially alcohol but he was kind of thirsty, from all the hotness and nerves Spade had made him feel. He looked back at Spade before shaking his head. "I don't want a beer but water would do" he mumbled and Spade just nodded before signalling one of the girls wearing a jersey and short skirt, holding a tray and serving people in their seat.
She walked towards them all smiles as her eyes moved from Nate and landed on Spade. Her grin grew bigger as she leaned forward exposing her boobs to him. "What do you need handsome" the girl chirped
Nate felt his body go hot with something unfamiliar, he didn't know what it was but it felt like anger but much stronger, he'd seen this so many times with Jade to know that this girl was flirting with Spade already
"Two bottles of water"
"Coming right up" she grinned before leaning away, Nate turned his head looking sideways so he wouldn't watch her flirt with Spade. He didn't like the feeling that settled inside his chest a few seconds ago
He didn't own Spade, infact he wasn't even sure if they could be termed as friends, this outing was just one harmless casual outing and Spade made it clear that it was so they could start over. But start over as what? Friends? Business partners? He didn't even know
But still it didn't mean he would feel entitled to Spade's attention on him all night, the fact that Spade made him feel hot and brought out certain emotions in him didn't mean Spade felt that way too. For all he knows Spade might not even like men, even he didn't know he liked men, he didn't know he could even like anyone. He froze when he realized he just admitted to himself that he liked Spade.
He watched the girl bring back the bottles of water on her tray, she stopped in front of them, Spade particularly, her smile wider than it was before. She places both waters on the armrest dividing both Spade and Nate's seats.
"Do you need anything else"? She whispered to Spade but Nate heard her and he could hear the flirt in her tone, making him want to roll his eyes. Spade just shook his head, before his eyes found Nate, completely ignoring the girl.
"Here"
Nate took the water from Spade setting his lip in a thin line "Thank you" he whispered out, Spade just waved him off, his eyes still tender and gentle, it made Nate feel fuzzy, like he had a swarm of butterflies playing in the pit of his stomach
The girl in front of the scrunched up her nose, huffing before walking away, Spade didn't even notice her, his eyes, mind, attention were all on one person in this stadium and he was staring at him right now. That was all that mattered to him now.
Nate looked away and faced the field, placing the water on the armrest, he shoved his hands into his pocket again. Spade looked at him a bit longer before also focused on the game being played.
*****
The whole place kept erupting in cheers and screaming, even Spade cheered once in a while, some people usually got up to cheer, or boo at the players
Nate didn't really understand that game at first but Spade took it upon himself to explain to him every now and then, especially the violent part of the game.
After a few minutes of watching, Nate had already gotten the hang of it, and he was kind of enjoying it. His eyes momentarily kept shifting from the field to the man beside him who had his complete attention on the field, as he watched the game unfold. He looked genuinely happy and interested in the game, Nate didn't know Spade had this side of him.
The side that would be excited over something that isn't killing or torturing someone, he wished Spade would remain like this forever, carefree and happy.
The final whistle blew and the whole crowd erupted in noise, some booing at the players and others cheering, Spade was among those cheering, his team had won.
Nate was looking at him as he smiled with his eyes on the field, it warmed Nate's heart, it made his heart beat hard, it made him want to be in this moment forever, to have Spade smiling like this, over and over again.
He licked his lips and let his eyes move from Spade and to the field. His mind kept replaying the smiling image of Spade. He liked how it made him feel, like nothing else mattered in that moment
So sweet 😩😩
I love these two, but I've missed Matteo too 😩😩
