He drove inside the white huge gates, there were no guards around, he knew they were here but hidden quite well, just like Ryan had told him.

He stopped the car inside the compound, thank God the gates had automatic locks, he knew Liam put it there. Inside the compound was much better looking than outside.

It looked like a typical New York family house, only the owner had nothing typical about him. The place looked homey even from outside. Spade turned to look at Nate, since their little talk a while back, the young man had totally ignored his existence.

He was still looking out of the car, Spade was about to say something when Nate took off his seatbelt and stepped out of the car first

He knew he didn't have a right even be angry about anything that was happening, he barely even knew the man that died but he couldn't help his burst of emotions.

And it was best to keep quite now, because he didn't want to say something that will piss Spade off. So far they'd been doing good, he didn't wanna start something he couldn't finish, hence why he left the topic unsaid and totally ignored Spade all through the drive, even though that was almost impossible as Spade's scent kept invading his nose and making his mind sway once in a while.

He looked around the compound as he heard the other side of the door being shut, he didn't look because he already knew it was Spade who had stepped out.

The place looked quiet, way different than he imagined it. With the owner being dead, he expected the place to be swarming with men holding guns and patrolling up and down but it was too quiet.

He turned to look at Spade and the man was already looking at him, he just shifted his eyes away from him and back at the quiet compound.

"Let's go"

Nate turned around to find Spade already walking away from the car and headed towards the entrance, everything about the house was cream coloured, except the door, it was white

Nate hurriedly followed Spade, stepping in line with him as he tried to match his strides.

They soon walked up the flight of stairs, and stood on the patio, Nate couldn't help but look around the front of the house again, this time admiring the design, he liked the work of whoever designed the house, they did a really good job.

He could see the one or two unique touches around the house, making him nod his head impressed by the design

Spade rang the doorbell, making Nate to stop his sightseeing and focus on Spade and the door, Spade turned to face him "Follow my lead, don't say anything unless you have to" he just nodded and clenched his jaw, understanding why Spade was suddenly giving him that instruction

The door suddenly creaked open slowly making them both to turn and face the door, a very beautiful brunette woman with a very distingushing set of eyes, she looked from Spade first and then her eyes landed on Nate

She looked quite young and attractive, petite and average body. "Mrs Fritz"? Spade's voice resounded making Nate to turn and look at him, rather the back of his head.

She looked at both men with skeptical eyes, Nate was already seeing the fear and skepticism in her eyes, like she would shut the door on their faces.

He looked at Spade and then he realized why she was looking at them both like that and why she was suddenly scared. Spade's face was set in a hard glare, he didn't have a calm face, he had one of those his signature emotionless, blank and stoic faces.

Nate quickly step forward already guessing that the woman was going to run inside and lock the door any second "We're friends of your late husband" Nate muttered gently, making her eyes to finally stop on him, she still had a skeptical look on but she didn't really look frightened again, upon hearing her husband being mentioned "I'm Nathan and this is..." He paused contemplating what he should call Spade, should he use his real name or should he just tell her Spade, he swallowed and his eyes moved to Spade again.

"I'm Gio" Spade muttered making the woman to turn her focus from Nate to him

"My husband never mentioned names like that in the house, I'm sorry but I'm gonna have to ask you to leave" she rushed out before almost stepping back inside, but Nate quickly shot out his hand stopping her.

"We're work friends, we did a few business together, we just heard about what happened, so we wanted to come pay our last respects" Nate rushed out, making the woman to once again face him, her face was now soft and only now did he notice that her eyes were red and puffy, she'd been crying or maybe she has a really bad eye pain.

She looked at Spade once again, the doubts swirling in her eyes, but the softness in Nate's eyes and the fact that he was dressed casually actually convinced her enough to let them in.

She stepped inside, opening the door wide for both of them. Nate was the first to step inside the house, while Spade watched his back, actually impressed by what he just did.

He followed him in slowly, as they both were standing in front of a regular sized living room, those kind of family living room they show in sitcoms, a long couch set straight facing the TV, a few beanbags littered around other parts of the living room, a small sized glass table in the middle.

With counters on the other side of the room, filled with different portraits and frames, obviously of Liam and his wife, there was a counter just on the right side of the entrance, a little into the room, farther from where Spade and Nate stood, it served as a demarcation for the kitchen and living room.

"Have your seats" the woman's tender and soft voice jolted both of them back as she led them to the long couch, Nate was the first sit, shifting himself inside while Spade sat on the edge, close to one of the beanbags "What can I get you"? The woman asked looking from Spade to Nate, but they both just shook their head

"It's okay, we're fine" Nate was the one to speak up, the woman nodded and sat herself down on one of the beanbags, watching the both of them, her eyes on Spade particularly wearily.

Nate was also waiting on Spade to say something, because he had no idea what to say, he didn't even know they were coming here until they were In the car already

"Mrs Fritz, I know you're surprised seeing us here, but like he said we came to pay our last respects to your husband" Spade's thick voice bounced off the small walls of the living room "He was a very good man and a good colleague"

The woman's eyes were already getting glossy with tears as she was sniffling, obviously trying to push back the tears "You know, he never really told me what he did, he was always away on business, all I got was that his work was a very demanding one" her shaky voice came out croaked as she sniffled one more time. "Even the cops that came to tell me he was shot, they kept coming back everyday to ask questions about his life but when it came to his work, they didn't really say anything, maybe you can tell me"? She whispered her eyes falling on Spade and then Nate.

Both men froze up, not knowing what to say, how to lie to her or find a way to bypass the question "Uh..." Spade drawled out, finding it difficult to even get a lie to pacify her with

Nate could see the difficulty in Spade's eyes "He was into data analysation" Nate quickly saved them both, making Spade to turn and look at him, he didn't look at Spade back, he just focused on the woman in front of him that had her attention on him again "He collected a lot of data for different firms, even for the cops, that was why he was rarely ever home"

"Wow" the woman whispered, her face showing different emotions all at once as she tried to process what Nate had just told her

"Most of his work were pretty confidential"

"Was that why he rarely ever brought work home"? She asked and both Spade and Nate both nodded, she let out a deep breath, she was about to say something when they all heard baby crying from inside "I'm sorry, you're gonna have to excuse me, that's my child" she rushed out and they both nodded in understanding as she quickly got up and walked towards the door on their right that probably led inside.

Nate took this time to really look around the living room, his eyes rested on the pictures on the counter close to the door the woman just walked into, they indeed were family pictures, mostly of the woman and the man he'd watched get shot Friday night.

His eyes moved from picture to picture until they landed ok the one were the woman was putting on a white dress and the man wore a black tux with a blue bowtie and his wife had on the same blue bowtie on her hair.

He didn't know the occasion they were celebrating that day but seeing them together tugged at his heart, he felt happy but at the same time sad, knowing she'd never see her husband again, all for what? A stupid mafia.

"Nice save back there" Spade's husky voice blew right through Nate's whole form, making him jolt slightly as he turned to face Spade, the man was extremely close to him, he swallowed and quickly looked away not responding Spade clenched his jaw, Nate was still giving him the silent treatment "You know, you can talk to her if you want to" he added but Nate still didn't say anything to him. He scratched his beards making a few scratch sounds, before they heard the door open and the woman walked out holding an infant boy.

She walked behind their couch and sat herself on the bean bag holding the child securely in her hands, she was rocking him back and forth.

Nate's eyes followed her every movement, his heart was pounding with so many emotions, he didn't know if he felt happy, or sad, or envious. No definitely not envious, he shouldn't even be considering thoughts like that.

"Is that your child"? He asked and she looked up at him and smiled warmly before nodding her head.

"Yes he is" she tussled his hair a bit before looking back at Nate again

"How old"? This time it was Spade who asked, he realized Nate had been the one doing the talking since they came, and the woman was more relaxed with Nate than with him, and if he wanted to ask her the questions that brought him here without her getting suspicious, he had to make her feel comfortable around him too.

"8 months and a few weeks" she whispered, her eyes looking back down on the boy that kept blabbing stuff, playing with his mom's top, her eyes shone with so much love and care for her son, it brought memories to the heart of both men, each drowning in his as they watched her.

Spade could feel himself getting drowned in his own emotions, he quickly snapped out of it, clearing his throat "Mrs Fritz.." she quickly cut him off

"Please call me Judy" she said warmly and he just nodded

"Judy, we would like to ask you a few questions about your husband's death" Spade said making her face go from warm to sad as she nodded her head, Nate was now looking at Spade, his attention on the older man. "Did Liam have any enemies you knew of, maybe someone that didn't like him, an old friend, a family"?

She looked from Spade to Nate and then back before shaking her head. "No, no he didn't, if he wasn't out on business, he was always home, apart from the both of you, I didn't even know my husband had work friends"

Nate let out a deep breath, but Spade was still watching the woman, his eyes scrutinizing her. She was lying, he could see it in her eyes, she wasn't being completely honest with them, she was hiding something, something she probably told the cops already
