"I mean, talk about terrible timing. Though Henry was born at a less-than-ideal time, and he's the best thing that's ever happened to me. Not that I'm saying I hope she's pregnant. I- Not that I'm saying I hope she's not pregnant. What am I saying? Just wish she would call. How hard is it to pee on a stick?" Nolan rambles in the break room.

Both Lucy and Jackson are listening to music and not paying attention but Ana is.

"my mama didn't find out she was pregnant with me until she started to show about three months along and even then she just thought she was gaining weight" Ana shrugs, softly.

"your stories from Cuba scare me" Nolan replies, making Ana giggle.

"ten minutes 'til roll call" Ana says, softly, looking at her phone to check the time.

"Okay, listen up. Why is community policing important? Officer Chen?" Nolan calls on

"Uh, because it builds trust between the police and the public, leading to a reduction in crime." Lucy replies.

"Exactly. And today, we're gonna do a little trust-building. Officer Nolan, so, you know Dr. Sawyer at Shaw Memorial?" Grey asks.

"Uh, we went to the same college, sir. Before I got my now-ex pregnant with my son and-" Nolan starts to ramble.

"It was a yes or no question, Nolan." Grey deadpans.

"Sorry, sir. Yes, I know her." Nolan replies.

"Good. She requested an officer to assist with a seminar. You're going with Cabrera." Grey decides.

"do you know what the seminar is about?" Ana asks, softly.

"Don't know, don't care. Whatever it is, it's open to the public, which means you have a chance to show the community that the LAPD does more than just lock up people." Grey answers.

"We do?" Tim asks, making everyone laugh.

"That's not funny. And you don't want to piss me off, Bradford. Considering what I have lined up for you." Grey answers.

"What's that?" Tim asks.

"Watts Rams need additional coaches for their fall clinic, and you're gonna need company. Officer West. Your dad is always bragging how you're a high-school football star. Is he lying?" Grey answers.

"No, sir. All-State safety, four years running. I could actually pull up my highlight reel if you want to check it out. It's on my YouTube channel." Jackson brags.

"what's a safety?" Ana asks, softly, raising her hand.

A good half the room gives her a look.

"can't believe you were my rookie" Tim huffs, pinching the top of his nose with two fingers.

"sorry" Ana apologizes, softly.

"No, just-... That won't be necessary. Change into your PTs, head out with Bradford. Harper and Chen, you will serve as liaisons to the Mid-Wilshire Community Council. They're coming in for a sit-down." Grey says, trying to get them back on track.

"What is this? The 1950s? The boys go to football practice while us girls attend a PTA meeting?" Harper pipes up.

"Fair point. Guess there's really only one way to settle this - Challenge coins." Grey announces.

They gather around a table while Tim and Harper take out their challenge coins.

"Chief gave me mine personally." Tim brags.

"That was nice. Mine was given to me by the governor." Harper replies.

"What is a challenge coin?" Nolan asks.

"How do you not know that? It's a medallion bearing an organization's insignia, given only to those deemed worthy. They're used to show respect or, uh, settle minor disputes." Jackson responds.

"Tim gave me one after the whole virus thing" Ana says, softly.

"Okay. Closest to the edge wins." Grey says.

Tim pushes his coin and it ends a few inches from the edge, which is pretty good. Harper goes next and hers ends up right on the edge.

"Oh!" Everyone explains.

"All right. Harper, football's all yours." Grey says.

"Nah, Bradford can have it." Harper shrugs.

"You gotta be kidding me." Grey sighs.

"Nope. Only football I watch is English." Harper replies.

"Whatever. Community Council will be here in 20." Grey says, dismissing them.

"I'm Not Runt" Lucy says, turning to Ana.

"it sounds better than being runt" Ana points out, softly.

"do you have any advice on how to get on her good side?" Lucy asks.

"no, I'm pretty sure she hates me, um... I've found that if I shut up and be quiet, she is less annoyed about my existence" Ana replies, softly.

"great" Lucy grumbles.

[Timeskip]

"you'll be fine, whatever it ends up being" Ana promises, softly.

"I know, I just-... I want to know" Nolan responds.

"I get it, but Henry was unexpected and you were the best father to him, so if she is pregnant, then you'll just be the best father to the baby as well. Plus, you'll be out of training before she has the baby" Ana points out, softly.

"yeah, you're right, I just-..." Nolan sighs.

"no, it makes sense" Ana says, softly.

"why don't you give her a call? maybe she's panicking just like you" Ana suggests, softly.

"Hey, Jess, it's me. I-I thought I would have heard from you by now. Are you- Are you still in your meeting? Are you having trouble peeing? Because the trick is to- You know, I got to go. Call me when you know." Nolan says over the phone on voicemail. Ana and Nolan are walking down a hallway when Sawyer comes over.

"Hey, John." Sawyer smiles.

"Hey." Nolan responds.

"Ana Cabrera, it's lovely to meet you" Ana says, softly, extending a hand and shaking Sawyer's hand.

"It's great to meet you too. Appreciate you two doing this." Sawyer replies.

"My pleasure. What are we doing?" Nolan asks.

"They didn't tell you?" Sawyer asks.

"No." Nolan and Ana say at the same time.

"Oh, we're hosting our monthly free seminar." Sawyer responds.

"for who?" Ana asks, softly.

"Pregnant mothers. What's wrong?" Sawyer asks.

"Uh, nothing. I couldn't be more excited." Nolan says, exchanging a glance with Ana who winces.

[Timeskip]

"Trust me, there's gonna be many times your child's first year where you're gonna want to rush to the Internet to check out their symptoms. Resist that urge. Yes?" Sawyer says.

Ana and Nolan are standing off to the side, because apparently their existence helps in some way.

"Um- If the dad was doing drugs when we made my baby –" Ella asks, raising her hand.

"There's no evidence that a father's addiction affects the baby." Sawyer replies.

"Okay. Thank you." Ella says.

"You're welcome. Okay. Now it's time to introduce Officer Nolan and Officer Cabrera." Sawyer says.

Ana smiles nervously at the gathered people and waves.

"The officers are gonna show you how to properly install an infant's car seat." Sawyer says.

"Yes, we will." Nolan says, walking over to the carseat demonstration with Ana.

"Hi, everyone. I'm, uh, Officer Nolan, and, um, uh, car seats are the safest way to transport your soon-to-be bundles of joy, and it's the law. So, uh installation is super-simple. We're gonna start with the base. Guys, they make this stuff just idiot-proof." Nolan says.

"um..." Ana says, softly, both of them struggling to put the car seat on.

"it's backwards" Sawyer pipes up.

"And it's- it's- it's- this is forwards, which is, of course is wrong, 'cause you want it backwards. The baby has to face the- Again, guys, idiot-proof. So, simply take these security straps and use the-" Nolan says before his phone starts to ring.

"latch, here, yeah" Ana says, softly.

"I'm so sorry. I have to take this call." Nolan says.

"um... okay, so you take the latch here and you just attach the two security straps together" Ana continues, softly, though she obviously has no clue what to do.

"um... hold on, one moment, sorry" Ana apologizes, trying to force the two security straps together.

"Get up." Lance says, grabbing Ella's arm.

"You can't be here." Ella insists.

"Get- Get up." Lance insists.

"um... sir, if you could please let go of the woman, please" Ana asks, softly, walking over.

Lance doesn't answer, instead grabbing an empty chair and hitting Ana with it. Ana pulls out her taser and tases him.

"you're under arrest for assaulting a police officer" Ana says as she handcuffs him.

"oh, shit" Nolan says, coming over.

Lance has one more trick up his sleeve and throws a knife even with his hands cuffed. It cuts Nolan's arm before falling to the ground.

"you're gonna need stitches" Sawyer says, coming over and looking over Nolan, completely ignoring Ana, not that Ana minds, used to being ignored.

She pulls the man up and removes any other weapons from his person while reading him his Miranda rights.

"are you okay, ma'am?" Ana asks, softly, turning to Ella.

"yes, thank you" Ella replies, sitting back down, looking shaken up.

[Timeskip]

"Lance is in lockup and the paperwork is done" Ana says, softly, coming over to Nolan and Grey.

"Great. Let's get back out on patrol" Nolan says.

"Hey. Hey. I need your help." AJ says, walking over to the three cops.

"what's going on?" Ana asks, softly.

"I'm-I'm looking for Officer Bradford." AJ answers.

"I think he's still out on patrol." Ana replies, softly.

"what's going on, son?" Grey asks.

"It's my mom. She's missing." AJ replies.

[Timeskip]

"I still don't know what a safety is" Ana grumbles after watching ten youtube videos on football.

Ana closes her computer and walks to her bed before climbing in.

"I'll just ask Tim tomorrow" Ana decides, softly, a smile on her face the minute she thinks about Tim.

She curls around one of her pillows and drifts off to sleep with a smile on her face.
