Hey guys! Thank you so much for reading Darling and I hope you enjoyed going through it as much as I enjoyed writing it :) As mentioned in the previous chapters, here is a small Q&A to answer your questions and officially sign the end of this story!
What would happen if y/n took the serum in the jasper ending would she actually become infected or would something else happen? also is it possible to reverse the infection?
(Y/n) would become Infected in any case to be honest. Either the serum works on the first try or she asks Jasper to keep on trying for an Infected serum and eventually gets it to work. She's just so desperate to make something of her current reality that she wouldn't stop asking for the serum until it finally brought results. Because if she doesn't have the serum, she has nothing.
As for the Infection, it could totally be reversed if only the city's scientists and researchers got the funds and had the wish to do so. Unfortunately no one has ever tried to reverse the Infection in the city because it's considered the norm and not something to be "changed", so the scenario of someone one day coming up with a cure in the city is very unlikely. Then, even if a scientist one day came up with a cure it probably wouldn't be well received by the Infected society and said scientist would probably get jailed for something like "Harmful disruption to society".
Did you get the strain or infection idea from L.T. May? Since she also wrote a story around the same concept back in 2021 called - Infected!!!
I indeed read L.T May's story (amazing story by the way, you should absolutely go read it if you haven't already)! And it was indeed a trigger for Darling! Like, I've had the idea of a dystopian/strain idea for a while now and I really wanted to write something a bit more 'political' too. But the idea of writing my own yandere infection story didn't come to my mind until I saw through L.T May's story and others that the yandere infection was a trope, and until I rewatched the Divergent (please I know it's bad but don't judge me). Like, this is the moment I thought about whipping it all into one big story that would merge my wishes for a dystopian/strain/class system project with the yandere genre that I really love. So I guess you can say that Darling is the result of all the different takes on the Infection I've seen (including L.T May's of course as it was the first take on this trope I ever read and was the one that also inspired my Infected types classification) and the Divergent's dystopian/class system if that makes sense?
One of you also posted a message on my profile asking for some more yandere Infected trope recommendations and I thought I might as well share it here as well:
On Wattpad you've got Infected by LTMay and Electronic Darling by Babylon29247, both with different takes on the trope and both amazing! And on Quotev you've also got The Adapted by Birchie, which is also amazing and yet another take on the yandere infection! These are the three stories I'm familiar with and I can say they are all amazing reads, so if you're searching for your next infected story give them a try!
Can an infected have more than one infection type? Like, if they would have both of their parents infected, would they inherit infected traits from both of them?
Thanks for asking! Okay so first off, the Infection is indeed inherited and a matter of genetics. Infected individuals usually inherit the same strain of Infection as one of their parents, or grandparents. Sometimes people can have two strains but at the end of the day one of the two is always dominant. So yes you can have more than one infection type but one is always more prominent than the other. For instance, Penelope has a Possessive strain that's her dominant infection type, but she also has an obsessive strain that's a bit more subtle. Plus, in terms of classification it's easier for the government to label people with one Infection type only.
Is the infection type determined at birth or do they have to wait till they receive it?
Considering the fact that the Infection is rooted in people's DNA, their type is usually predictable at birth in function of their parents' Infected strains. However it's only later on in their life, usually at around 10 or in the beginning of teenagehood for late bloomers, that their Infected strain really develops and expresses itself clearly. That's when you'll find out which strain a child has inherited from their Infected parents. Sorry if this is a bit messy, I hope it's clear!
Can some of the children born in the Infected City still be born uninfected(As in, they have an uninfected parent and somehow manage to be uninfected too, or if they have infected parents and they somehow manage to be uninfected)? If yes, do they go to the Uninfected Shelter straight up or is there another procedure?
Yes! That's the case for Lupita! Not all Uninfected fled the city after the Infection and some managed to live in the Infected Society without getting caught and taken to the Uninfected Shelter. Uninfected people can't have Infected children considering they don't have the Infected strain. Another case is if an Uninfected has a child with an Infected, the child can be Uninfected too because one of the parents don't have the Infected strain. However, in the case of Infected couples, they will always have Infected children.
Would the yanderes get any pets for the MC if she asked for one? If yes, what pet?
YES! I can really see Tobias getting MC a dog of some kind, to keep watch over her and make sure she doesn't injure herself, and he's also a huge dog person so there's that! Jasper would probably be happy with a cat considering he grew up with some and always found their presence soothing, and I mean, he's so bent on making his MC happy that he'd probably buy her a whole pet store if she ever asked for one. When it comes to Penelope it's a bit more tricky... As a possessive she'd probably see their pet as competition if her MC ever showed too much affection towards it. Still, I can see her getting her Darling a bunny at the end of the day, because MC's smile is worth the jealousy.
What is their favorite food?
Penelope's favourite food is by far lavender scones, especially if it has a sweet sugar glaze and is paired with an Earl Grey tea.
Jasper, although he grew up with the fanciest food in all of the city, has always had a weak spot for a simple steak and roasted potatoes.
Tobias loves himself a good sweet and crispy apple.
As for Lupita, she loves Mexican food, especially tacos and burritos.
