Ana enters the bull pen in good spirits, sitting down next to Lucy.
"All right, we know what today is. The most dangerous day of our year." Grey says, starting roll call.
"what day is it?" Ana whispers to Lucy.
"Valentines Day" Lucy whispers back.
"oh, so an American holiday" Ana murmurs, softly, turning her attention back to Grey.
"Valentine's Day, sir? Really? Not Black Friday, not New Year's?" Nolan asks.
"what's Black Friday?" Ana whispers. "I see it on the TV but I don't understand the point"
"there's not really a point" Lucy whispers back.
"so like most holidays" Ana mumbles to herself.
"That's right, Officer Nolan. Breakups and broken hearts. Jealousy and revenge. All make for a perfect storm of heightened emotion and dangerous situations. Hell, sometimes violence can find you minding your own business at dinner." Grey says.
"Sir, again, I can't tell you how sorry I am." Nolan apologizes.
"I'm not the one that needs the apologies, Officer Nolan." Grey answers.
"Yes, sir. Please apologize to your wife for me. If you'd like me to make you another reservation -" Nolan offers.
"I traded shifts for last night off. The night you ruined." Grey continues.
"Yes, sir." Nolan says.
"Uh, sir? I don't see my T. O." Lucy says.
Ana leans over and whispers into Lucy's ear.
"oh" Lucy says, her mouth forming an O and she nods.
"Officer Bradford's taken a personal day." Grey says, wondering what Ana told Lucy.
"You're kidding. Tim hasn't taken a personal day in his entire life." Angela says, also wondering what the two girls know.
"Be that as it may, he's off today. So, Chen and Cabrera, you'll be assigned to the front desk. All right. That's it. Everybody be safe out there." Grey announces.
The second they're out of earshot of anyone else.
"He's seeing Isabel?" Lucy gasps.
"yeah, my abuela's ex boyfriend is also at the rehab center, they have a visitors day today" Ana explains, softly.
"damn" Lucy shakes her head as they walk to the front desk.
"what do you think she's going to do?" Lucy asks.
"he saw her... after she was shot, I saw them on my way out of the hospital" Ana murmurs. "I don't know, I think that she might use him again, unfortunately"
"didn't you say that she told you a month ago to have Tim leave her alone because there isn't a future with her?" Lucy asks.
"she did" Ana says, softly. "but you don't know with drug addicts. She could've been on something when she said that. Or maybe the mission cleared her senses and she wants him back. Whatever it is, it won't be good.
"damn" Lucy says again.
"what gossip you two got?" Angela calls.
"nothing ma'am" Ana says, softly, turning to look at Angela.
Both girls look sheepish and Angela sighs, looking between them.
Angela walks off and Ana and Lucy giggle.
"what do you think we should do about it?" Ana asks, softly.
"Nothing, he made it clear he doesn't want us involved" Lucy answers.
"But-..." Ana starts, softly.
"No, we're going to stay out of it, it's hard to see reason when you're in love and Tim is a grown man he can handle himself" Lucy responds.
"He can, but he shouldn't have to, he should have people to help him and support him" Ana argues, softly.
"then he needs to start letting people in, until then all we can do is watch" Lucy decides.
Ana wants to argue more, but they arrive at the front desk and the conversation is over. There are two lines. Ana is listening to a woman complain about something in Arabic and she's waiting for the translator to come.
"Next." Lucy says and a man steps up.
Ana's attention turns to them, not able to do anything until a translator comes down.
"Hi. Uh I need to talk to a vice cop." The man says.
"Okay, about what?" Lucy asks.
"Um I need to find a hooker. And not a street-walker. Uh, she's, uh, higher class than that. I, uh, met her at a hotel bar and, uh, spent some, uh, time with her on Saturday, and, uh, I'd like to take her out tonight on a date for, uh, Valentine's Day." The man explains.
"So you walked into a police station to find a prostitute?" Lucy raises an eyebrow.
"Well, yeah. You guys have, like, binders full of them right? I figure I can just page through the girls till I spot her." The man reasons.
"Yeah, uh, I'm sorry, sir. The LAPD is not a referral service for prostitutes." Lucy responds.
"Okay, uh, you're standing in the way of true love." The man says, before he walks away.
"And that's a burden I will have to bear. Next." Lucy calls.
Lucy and Ana make eye contact and giggle a little before turning back to do their job.
A lady comes up in Ana's line a little later
"Hi. Is Officer Nolan around?" The lady asks.
"um, yes, I think so, I just saw him, what's your name?" Ana asks, softly.
"I am a very grateful citizen." The lady says.
"okay... can I still get your name?" Ana requests, softly.
"He saved my life this morning." The lady continues.
Ana obviously isn't going to get this lady's name so she says over the intercom "Officer Nolan, report to the front desk"
"Do you know him?" The lady asks.
"a little bit" Ana replies, softly.
"He seems like a lovely man." The lady continues.
"He's a good cop" Ana nods, softly, now uncomfortable.
"He saved my life." The lady repeats.
"part of what makes him a good cop" Ana says, softly, visibly struggling.
"Oh, hey! What are you doing here? You should be at home in bed." Nolan says, walking over and Ana visibly relaxes.
"I'm on my way home. The hospital gave me a clean bill of health -" the woman explains.
"Ah." Nolan realizes.
"- thanks to you." Denise finishes, totally flirting with Nolan and it's painful to watch.
"Oh, good." Nolan says, becoming a little uncomfortable.
"Yeah. Just some superficial burns." The lady says.
"Ooh." Nolan nods.
"Yeah. These are for you." The lady hands him a basket of muffins.
"Wow. That is, uh, extremely kind, very thoughtful, and entirely unnecessary. Um, but now you should really get home and get some rest." Nolan says.
"Well, maybe you can stop by later and check in on me." the lady says and Ana has to stop herself from cringing.
"I, um I do have a, um, long shift that I really should be getting back to. But, again, thank you so much. This is really nice, and I'm - just so glad that you're all right, and, uh, thank you. That's - Yeah." Nolan says, obviously not sure what to do either.
"Well, thank you. Thank you for - Yeah, thank you." The lady says before leaving the station.
"She seems nice." Lucy offers.
"Uh, yeah, I saved her life." Nolan nods.
"She mentioned that... several times" Ana responds, softly.
[Timeskip]
Ana is leaving flowers in Tim's locker, knowing that Lucy said not to do anything but she feels really bad and can't go home knowing that he's hurting.
Ana looks up when Tim enters the locker room.
"you're not supposed to be here" Ana says, softly, putting the flowers behind her back.
"neither are you" Tim replies. "this is the mens locker room"
"w-well, yes" Ana says, sheepishly, shifting on her feet. "what are you doing here?"
"I could ask you the same." Tim says, raising an eyebrow.
"b-but I asked you first" Ana points out.
"you did, but I'm your superior officer, so spill it" Tim orders.
"I figured out where you were today through a... person that my family knows and I told Lucy and she told me to drop it but I can't drop it because it's so unfair and I know how difficult it must be for you and I'm sorry and I just-..." Ana starts to ramble before stopping herself and holding out the flowers.
"I read an article that most men don't receive flowers until their funeral, so here" Ana says, softly.
"Boot" Tim says with a warning voice. "what did I tell you about overthinking?"
"no, I answered your question, so you answer mine, why are you here?" Ana insists, softly.
"To clear my head, paperwork sounded like a nice way to do that" Tim sighs.
"my abuela is making carnitas tonight" Ana starts, softly. "and she always makes enough for a small village, we'd be happy to have you over. you can see what Cubans do on Valentines day"
"and before you say no, I'm not going to let you overwork yourself after you've had such a hard day" Ana says, softly.
"and the only weird thing at my place is that my apartment still smells like tomato soup and my abuelo Mario, but as long as you don't go in his room, you should be fine" Ana continues, softly, starting to ramble.
"fine, fine" Tim butts in, knowing she was going to ramble herself to death if he didn't agree.
Ana grins.

"Dijiste que no había policías disponibles en la estación para ayudarme." Esmerelda says, when Ana and Tim enter her apartment. (You said there weren't any hot available cops at the station for me.)
"Mira ese cuerpo. Definitivamente. Quiero decir, imagínalo estrangulándome mientras-..." Esmerelds says, looking Tim up and down. (Look at that body. Definitely. I mean imagine him choking me while-)
"abuela, habla español con fluidez." Ana interrupts, softly. (abuela, he speaks fluent Spanish).
"sorry, you also have to worry about horny grandparents" Ana apologizes, softly.
"I think I can handle that" Tim nods, a reluctant smile on his face.
Maybe Valentine's Day is one of the few holidays that aren't useless. At least, that's what Ana thinks as she watches Carmen put Tim to work in the kitchen.
