"are you sure you're okay?" Lucy asks, watching Ana get changed into her uniform for the day.
"I wouldn't change a single thing about what happened last night" Ana murmurs, softly. "I would do it all over again, and this is just how it works."
"it's still terrible" Lucy says.
"it is, but I was stupid for getting my hopes up anyway, this has been the best six months of my life, of course it's ruined by something I can't control" Ana says, softly.
"you're not going to quit, right?" Lucy asks.
"no, I'm not. my grandparents didn't raise a quitter" Ana responds, softly.
"I'm staying until they fire me" Ana decides, softly.
"they won't fire you, they know none of it was your fault, plus you answering the mugging call was an ethical dilemma, you only missed two and those were the ones because Russo put you on that stupid list" Lucy says.
"don't jinx me. The Cabrera Curse is a real thing" Ana says, softly.
[Timeskip]
Bradford has been talking to Lucy, but not to Ana. Ana worries that he's disappointed in her, which would make all of this hurt twice as much.
"7-Adam-19, silent hold-up alarm activated at Madame Megan's Psychic Shop. 2417 Vine. Code 3." Dispatch says over the radio.
They enter the store to see a man (Fischer) threatening a woman (Megan) with a giant crystal ball.
"Tell me! Tell me right now! How the hell did you know?! Answer me!" Fischer yells.
"Police. Drop the snow globe." Bradford orders.
"That's a $900 crystal ball. Can he just put it down instead?" Megan requests.
"You heard her. Gently." Bradford commands.
"Up against the wall. Turn around." Ana orders, softly, coming over to the man once he sets the crystal ball on the ground.
"Ma'am, you okay?" Bradford asks.
"Yeah. I was just giving that psycho a reading, and he hulked out." Megan replies, standing up.
"Don't say another word. We've got psychic-client confidentiality." Fischer exclaims.
"That's not a thing, asshat." Megan responds.
"So, what exactly were you telling him when he attacked you?" Bradford asks.
"We were talking about his love life. I said I saw an image of him and a beautiful woman surrounded by trees, and then he freaked out." Megan explains.
"Why is that, sir? Strike a little close to home? Have you been in the woods with a woman recently?" Lucy asks.
"No, it was just a misunderstanding." Fischer replies.
"Control, run a name for me. Last name Fischer, first name Randy L. Suspected on a domestic." Ana says, softly, over the radio, using the man's license.
"7-Adam-19, be advised, suspect's wife was reported missing six weeks ago." Dispatch says over the radio.
"Hands behind your back." Ana orders, softly, cuffing Fischer.
"Holy crap. I was just making that up." Megan gasps.
"You were?" Fischer asks.
"You think if I were really psychic that I'd be working out of a moldy storefront in Hollywood?" Megan snarks back
Megan then turns back to Bradford, looking him up and down suggestively. "Although, I can totally see us destroying my bedroom later."
Ana bites her lip, focusing back on arresting the man and reading him his Miranda rights.

They are called into an emergency briefing.
"Okay, so here is what we know. At 10:00 last night, this man, Corey Valance, boarded a bus from Phoenix to L.A. He had a partner with him. We have no identification on that man, but we do know that they're part of a fringe nationalist group which believes that Los Angeles stands for everything that is wrong in America." Russo starts.
"The two men arrived here at 5:00 this morning. We believe Corey's partner strangled him in the bus station bathroom right after." Grey explains.
"You thinking Corey got cold feet?" Bradford asks.
"It seems likely, yes, especially since they came here with this deadly virus." Russo nods.
"Well, that explains the Silkwood shower we just took." Nolan responds.
"That was purely a precaution. There is no evidence that the biological agent they were transporting has been released." Morgan assures.
"But we do have every reason to believe that there is an attack planned in the near future" Russo continues.
"do you know what kind of virus?" Ana asks, softly.
"A weaponized strain of hemorrhagic fever, basically causes you to start bleeding and never stop. And that's how the virus spreads, through contact with bodily fluids. It has an extremely short incubation period and a gruesome pathology. If not treated quickly, it has a 90% fatality rate." Morgan explains, while showing several gruesome images of victims of the virus on the TV.
"And if it's treated quickly?" Nolan asks.
"We believe that drops down to around 60%. But the bad news is -" Morgan starts.
"That's not the bad news?" Nolan asks.
"No. The bad news is, there's only an experimental vaccine. We're flying it here from Atlanta. But there's only a few hundred doses. Nowhere near enough to combat an outbreak." Morgan finishes.
"So, obviously, the rookie exam will be postponed. The Feds are asking us to be their boots on the ground while they set up a command center here. First order of business to I.D. Corey's partner/killer. So you'll conduct field interviews with the other passengers on the bus." Grey instructs.
"Do we think Corey's killer is operating alone now?" Talia asks.
"No. We think there's one more, a local who picked him up at the bus station." Russo responds.
"So, okay, this is extremely sensitive. We can't risk the news getting out and causing a panic. That being said, you can warn your immediate families to stay away from populated areas, but no details. Understood? All right. Let's go get these guys." Grey dismisses.
Ana immediately calls her grandparents, practically ordering them to not leave the apartment, it only takes five minutes of intense arguing in Spanish for them to agree.
[Timeskip]
They're visiting a bus passenger who was on the bus.
"Man. And here I thought that test was gonna be the most stressful thing about my day." Chen sighs.
"Best case scenario, it's tomorrow's problem." Bradford replies.
"And worst case? Never mind, don't answer that." Chen decides.
"Police." Bradford says, knocking on the door of the house.
"Took you long enough. Bag's in here." The man (Langston) says, opening the door and leading them into the house and into a bedroom.
"Sir, we're here about the bus you took from Phoenix." Ana says, softly.
Ana is the one talking to the man while Bradford is surveying the area and Lucy is standing in the door way.
"No kidding. I called you about the bag." Langston responds.
"what bag, sir?" Ana asks, softly.
"I thought it was mine on the bus. I picked it up by accident. Noticed as soon as I got home. Called right away. Still took you guys like six hours to get here." Langston explains.
"um... sir, we're not here about a bag" Ana says, softly, her eyebrows furrowing in confusion.
"So you don't have mine?" Langston asks.
"No, I'm sorry, sir" Ana replies, softly.
"Damn it. My computer's in there. I went through this one looking for an address and all I found was some weird science equipment." Langston explains.
Ana glances back at Bradford and Chen who step into the living room to get the task force here.
"Sir, did you touch anything in there?" Ana asks, softly.
"Yeah, I cut my finger going through it looking for an address. Some kind of broken vial. Won't stop bleeding." Langston says, showing his bleeding finger and he starts to cough.
Ana's eyes widen, before running to the bedroom door, closing and locking it.
"Cabrera, damn it!" Bradford calls, knocking on the door and trying to open it.
"Open this damn door!" Bradford yells.
"What's happening?" Langston asks.
"there's a bad strain of the flu going around, we're trying to keep it contained" Ana explains, softly.
"was there anyone with you in the house today?" Ana asks, softly.
"No. My kid's with my ex." Langston replies.
"You got any cold medicine?" Ana questions, softly.
"I think so." Langston replies.
"you should take some" Ana says, softly.
"I'm coughing up blood." Langston says, confused.
"I know, sir, and an ambulance is on the way but until then we want to get as much medicine as we can into you" Ana responds, softly, heading towards the bathroom attached to the bedroom to find some medicine.
"Ana! Get your ass out here!" Bradford calls.
"I can't" Ana calls.
"damn it" Bradford sighs.
"Chen, head back to the station, get the task force here *now*" Bradford orders.
[Timeskip]
"Officer Cabrera, this is Dr. Morgan from the CDC." A woman says, knocking on the door.
"hi, ma'am" Ana replies, softly.
"How are you doing?" Morgan asks.
"pretty good, all things considered, Mr. Langston is bleeding and coughing up blood though" Ana responds, softly, looking to the couch where Langston is sitting, coughing with his nose bleeding.
"where is he bleeding from?" Morgan asks.
"he's got a nose bleed, started about ten minutes ago" Ana replies, softly.
"Why aren't they coming in? Where's my ambulance?" Langston asks.
"It'll be here in just a second, they're keeping us quarantined until it arrives, just so we don't infect anyone else" Ana explains, softly.
"Officer Cabrera, do you mind if I put you to work while you wait?" Morgan asks.
"yes, ma'am" Ana replies, softly.
"can you see what's in the bag?" Morgan asks.
"yes, I can" Ana replies, softly.
"Boot, turn on your body camera so that we can see what you're looking at" Bradford orders through the door, sounding stressed.
"yes, sir" Ana says, softly.
Ana takes out her baton, poking through the backpack with it.
"Wait, wait. What is that bottle?" Morgan asks.
"It's a misting fan, I think" Ana replies, softly.
"I think you're right. Looks like there's a growth medium inside the bottle. Add the virus to it, then spray it in a crowd. Droplets land on people's faces, infect them through their mouth and nose. It's as low tech as you can get." Morgan says through the door.
"It's Dr. Morgan. I know how they're planning to disperse the virus." Ana hears Dr. Morgan say over the radio.
[Timeskip]
"I don't see any ID or any information on where they plan to target" Ana says, softly, through the door, relaying information to Morgan.
Lucy and Bradford are still watching her body cam and they see Langston through a mirror, charging towards Ana with a chair.
"Boot! Look out!" Bradford calls.
"Ana!" Lucy calls.
Ana turns around but Langston is faster and hits her with the chair.
"I gotta get outta here. Gotta get outta here here. Gotta get outta here." Langston repeats.
Ana takes out her taser and tases him before cuffing him to the bed.
"Boot! Boot, are you okay?" Bradford calls through the door.
"Hey, answer us" Lucy calls.
"I'm okay" Ana responds, softly.
"my head kinda hurts, but I'm okay" Ana assures them, softly.
She hears Lucy turn to Morgan.
"you need to get that vaccine here right now" Lucy says, her voice sounding deadly.
[Timeskip]
Langston is still calling for help. Ana is crying as he calls for help. She can't do anything to help him and it's killing her apart inside.
"Help! Help!" Langston begs, before he suddenly goes quiet.
Ana's breath hitches and she rushes over, feeling for his pulse before realizing he died.
"oh god" Ana sobs out.
[Timeskip]
Lucy and Bradford are sitting with their back to the door on one side with Ana doing the same with the other.
"Hey, I, uh I just checked with Dr. Morgan. The vaccine's minutes away." Lucy lies.
"don't lie to her, you're not good at that" Bradford replies.
"You think I'm good at things? Can I get that in writing?" Lucy asks, turning to Bradford.
"How are you doing? Are there any symptoms yet?" Lucy asks through the door.
"Just really hot, but it might just be because there isn't a lot of ventilation in the room" Ana responds, softly.
"It's gonna be okay. I really believe that." Lucy calls through the door.
"I hope so" Ana murmurs. "but if it isn't-"
"Don't think like that. It's -" Bradford interrupts.
"You know that my papa was killed by police, but the rest of my family? A flu outbreak, I was riding my bike to the hospital, when I came back with the medicine, they had all died" Ana murmurs, softly.
"What are you saying?" Bradford asks through the door.
"I'm saying, that if there is a god up above, this is probably karma for not making it back in time" Ana sniffles.
[Timeskip]
"Officer Cabrera, it's time to let me in." Morgan says, knocking on the door.
Ana stands up, shakily and opens the door slightly. It's obvious she's been crying.
"Hey." Morgan says, her facial expression softening.
"hi, ma'am"
"We got it. How are you feeling?" Morgan responds.
"I'm fine, physically" Ana whispers. "just really hot"
"Good. You're right at the edge of what we think is the incubation window. So the fact that you're not showing any symptoms doesn't suck. But we're gonna give you this vaccine just to make sure." Morgan explains.
Ana turns so she can give her the vaccine.
"It's experimental, right?" Bradford asks, watching Morgan inject Ana with the vaccine.
"That's correct. So we're just gonna have to wait and see what happens. Maybe nothing. Maybe you grow horns. But for now, I'd say you might've dodged a bullet." Morgan explains, making Ana let out a watery giggle at the idea of growing horns.
Morgan smiles, glad that she got Ana's mood to lift a little bit.
[Timeskip]
"I'm not disappointed in you" Tim says, through a plastic cover that blocks Ana from the doctors and stuff.
She's sitting on a sterile bed.
"really?" Ana sniffles, looking up at him.
"Hell no" Tim answers. "You sacrificed your future for someone else. I'm not surprised, but I am proud"
"And I am reluctantly proud of you for quarantining yourself, that took a lot of guts" Tim responds.
"thank you, sir" Ana whispers, a few tears falling down her cheeks.
"Hey, you couldn't have done anything about Langston, you tried your best, that's all we can do" Tim encourages her.
"Are you going to fire me?" Ana asks, softly.
"I think I can handle your little ass for another year" Tim smirks.
Ana smiles, though a few tears are coming down her face. "My abuela wants to have you over on Saturday night"
"I'll be there" Tim promises.
Soon, she's being escorted by two people in hazmat suits to a van to be taken to the CDC. She'll be under observation for 24 hours before being released.
Ana starts to feel a little fuzzy, her steps slowing, until her vision goes black and her unconscious body hits the ground.
{And that is a wrap on Season One. I have vague plans for the rest of the seasons except for Season Six because I'm waiting for all of the episodes to be released before making any plans. However, I am debating love interests. I want Ana to have one, but I don't know who. Part of me wants to go with Tim but I adore Chenford and I'd love to see Ana play matchmaker. If it isn't Tim, then I'd probably have to come up with an original character, which I'm more hesitant about. So let me know what you think I should do.
