Angela approaches Ana while she's getting changed into her uniform in the locker room on Monday.

"good morning, ma'am" Ana says as she puts on her bullet proof vest.

"Hey, boot" Angela says.

"Listen, don't dive back into work like nothing happened. Something did happen and your mind hasn't forgotten it. That trauma is still there, so just take it slow at first, and Bradford won't push you too hard today anyway" Angela advises.

Ana nods. "okay, thank you, ma'am"

"see you at roll call, rookie" Angela responds, walking away.

Ana gets to roll call first, so she doesn't get any clapping, while Bradford gets a round of applause, which Ana happily participates in.

"All right, all right, all right. Settle down. Settle down. Let's get to it. You ready, Officer Nolan? 'Cause once again, we start with you." Grey starts roll call.

"I'm flattered?" Nolan says, hesitantly.

"Don't be. Yesterday, a four-man crew disguised as zombies knocked over a cash advance near Pico and Robertson. So, Officers Bishop and Nolan were able to apprehend two of the criminals, while the other two escaped. Somehow, Officer Nolan managed to let a civilian steal ten grand in already stolen cash. Luckily, CCTV captured our thief. Still waiting on an I.D." Grey explains and Ana jots down some notes.

"Uh, he plays guitar, if that helps." Nolan says.

"Absolutely. 'Cause they always list special talents on your rap sheet." Grey responds.

Ana looks up when Captain Anderson enters the room, her eyes wide.

"Captain. How can we help you?" Grey asks.

"First off, I wanted to welcome Tim Bradford and Ana Cabrera back. If you two need anything, you let me know." Captain Anderson starts.

"yes, ma'am" Tim and Ana both say.

Ana is surprised that the Captain knows that she exists much less her name.

"Secondly, we just got some new intel on our zombies. Turns out that they're responsible for a rash of armed robberies in the last six months, always disguised differently. Detectives want to get the two in custody to flip on their partners at large, but there is no guarantee, so don't stop hunting. Finally, we got a request for a civil standby. Turns out somebody's getting fired from a tech job. Supervisor's worried things may not go right." Anderson explains and Ana jots it down in her little notebook.

"Babysitting a termination: a patrol officer's favorite assignment. So, who shall I bless with it?" Grey grins.

Ana watches as Nolan raises his hand.

"Officer Nolan, are you volunteering?" Grey asks.

"Just embracing the inevitable, sir." Nolan responds.

"Smart man. Get the address from Dispatch. That's it." Grey says, dismissing the room.

[Timeskip - 9 AM - Monday | Patrol]

"You sure you don't want me to drive?" Lucy asks, while Ana sits in the backseat.

She's become used to Lucy and Bradford's conversations excluding her but she doesn't mind.

"Why would I want that, Boot? You think I'd go back on duty before I'm 100 percent?" Bradford asks.

"No, sir" Lucy answers.

"Or do you think simply doing your job during a firefight means you get special treatment?" Bradford questions.

"No, sir" Lucy responds.

"You'll drive when you've earned it." Bradford says.

"Yes, sir. It's good to have you back." Lucy answers.

"Damn straight" Bradford smirks.

They get a call at bank and drive over. Bradford holds a hand up.

"Ana's taking the lead on this one" Bradford decides.

Both Lucy and Ana nod, neither minding.

"Oh, thank God you guys are here. He's trapped in there." The manager says, coming over as they enter the bank.

"In where? The bank?" Ana asks, softly, confused.

"No. In the wall. Mike went inside to fix an ATM last night before we closed, and we forgot he was in there and left. The lock must have broke when he tried to come back out, and he's been inside all night. Pushed this note through the receipt slot when he heard us come in." The manager explains and Ana nods, walking over to the ATM.

"Control, 7-Adam-19 requesting LAFD to 3301 Ditmer, for a guy trapped in a wall." Ana says over the radio.

"Sir, we're gonna get you out of there. Sir, can you hear me?" Ana calls, knocking on the wall.

A piece of paper comes from the receipt slot, it's illegible.

"Hypoxia" Ana realizes, softly.

"Lucy, can you go get me the Halligan?" Ana calls, softly.

Lucy obeys, running to the car.

"Sir, I need you to get low so I can open this wall up." Ana calls to Mike.

"How tall is the area behind the ATM?" Ana asks, turning to the manager.

"Oh, I don't know. It's pretty cramped in there. About five feet." The manager responds.

Lucy comes running back with the Halligan.

"thank you" Ana says, softly, before using the Halligan to whack a hole into the wall. Her shoulder doesn't like the movement and she grimaces in pain.

She manages to make a hole in the wall and the man emerges, breathing in the fresh air.

The next call they get is at a factory which was robbed. Bradford is finishing up an interview with the manager. Ana has been jotting down all of the information and hands the report to Bradford when the interview is done

"Call your insurance company about your property. We'll file the report, but the fact is, most cold burglaries stay cold. You think of anything else, my number's right there." Bradford says, handing the manager the report and points to his number.

"Hey, I'm just gonna hit the restroom." Lucy says.

"Make it fast, Boot." Bradford says.

"Go steal her belt" Bradford orders, turning to Ana.

"what?" Ana asks, confused.

"go, boot!" Bradford says and Ana obeys, scampering off.

Ana enters the women's bathroom, hearing Lucy hang the utility belt up. Ana feels guilty about it but still takes the belt, hearing Lucy say "no, no, no"

Ana runs back over to Bradford, handing him the utility belt which he tosses into the car and they wait for Lucy to return.

"Hey, did anyone run out here?" Lucy asks, looking frantic.

Ana shifts, looking very guilty and Bradford elbows her in the arm so Lucy doesn't realize who took her belt.

"What?" Bradford asks, playing innocent.

"Someone took my belt and gun. I hung it on the hook, and I secured the bathroom beforehand. There was no one else in there." Lucy explains.

"Did the walls of the stall reach top to bottom?" Bradford asks.

"no, sir" Lucy frowns.

"Then it wasn't secure, was it, Boot? Now your weapon is on the street because you couldn't hold your water." Bradford lectures.

He's interrupted when his phone rings and he answers it "Bradford. When? I-I'll be right there" He then hangs up the phone.

"Get in." He tells Ana and Lucy. Ana obeys immediately while Lucy hesitates.

"What about my belt?" Lucy asks.

Bradford grabs her belt from the car and tosses it at her.

"What - What's happening? Where are we going?" Lucy asks, getting into the passenger seat.

"Emergency room" Bradford replies.

"Stay here" Bradford orders Lucy and Ana while Bradford walks up to the desk.

Ana shifts uncomfortably for a moment. "I'm sorry, about your belt, he told me to do it and I couldn't say no, I'm really sorry" Ana blurts out, still feeling guilty about it.

"w-what? you were the one who took it?" Lucy asks "I thought Bradford would've."

"no, sorry" Ana answers.

"It's fine, we're both just trying to survive this year" Lucy responds.

"you did good on Tuesday" Ana compliments.

"so did you, how's your arm feeling?" Lucy asks.

" 's okay, didn't appreciate me making a hole in the wall but otherwise okay" Ana replies.

"you want some Ibuprofen? I always carry some with me" Lucy offers.

"no, I'm good, plus, I think you'll need it, and here" Ana says, secretly handing her a pad.

"h-how did you know?" Lucy asks.

"saw you sneak out a pad on your way to the bathroom" Ana responds.

"thank you" Lucy smiles.

"he's taking a while" Lucy says, they both watch as Isabel leaves a side room.

"he was here for Isabel" Ana realizes. The two rookies go over to the side room and open it, just in time to see Bradford punch a wall.

"are you okay?" The two rookies ask at the same time.

Bradford ignores the two of them and instead walks back outside to the cruiser. The girls exchange a glance before following after him.

"7-Adam-19, report of a biker gang, drunk and disorderly at The Hard Road bar." Dispatch says over the radio.

"Are you okay to do this? We can ask for another unit to be assigned." Lucy asks, concerned.

"No, I'm fine" Bradford answers, coldly.

They pull up to a bar with dozens of bikers hanging around outside.

"How do you identify a motorcycle club, Boot?" Bradford asks, making no move to get out of the car.

"Uh, the three rockers on the back of their jackets they show gang name, logo, and state of origin" Lucy responds, reading aloud one of the jackets "Dead Bastards MC"

"And which one of these guys is the most dangerous? See them? Those are prospects. They haven't earned their top rocker yet, and there's only one way to get it - commit a felony in view of another gang member, which means what?" Bradford asks, turning back to look at Ana.

"someone's gonna fight us when we get out of the car" Ana finishes, softly.

"exactly" Bradford says.

"shouldn't we call for backup then?" Lucy asks.

"Where's the fun in that?" Bradford smirks, getting out of the car.

Ana and Lucy follow after him.

"start a fight, boot" Bradford says, patting Ana on the back and pushing her in front of him and Lucy.

Ana nods, putting on her confident face, understanding what he wants and she walks up to a couple of the men. One of them throws a glass bottle down at her feet and it shatters.

"that's the best y'all got? too afraid to hit a girl?" Ana asks, raising an eyebrow.

"what is she doing?" Lucy asks Bradford, concerned.

"I know at least one of y'all needs a felony, if you fight me now and win, I'll let y'all go. If you lose, you go to jail and your buddies hit the road" Ana offers.

"Not gonna repeat myself, fellas" Ana adds when none of them say anything.

"Come on, Jordan. You got this." One of the bikers calls.

"Let's go, bitch" Jordan says, throwing a bottle at Ana, who easily deflects it.

That's when the fight starts. Ana has always been better at defense than offense during a fight. And with her shoulder killing her, it definitely makes it hard. Still, in a matter of a few minutes, she's able to pin the guy down and cuff him.

"You lost, now hit the road" Bradford orders.

Ana pulls the man up.

"7-Adam-19, type change this event to a felony assault, one in custody." Bradford says over the radio.

"Chen, get the guy in the car." Bradford orders.

"what the hell was that?" Chen asks, not moving.

"Patrol work, you gonna say otherwise?" Bradford raises an eyebrow.

Chen takes the man from Ana and puts him in the car.

"you good, boot?" Bradford asks, turning to Ana.

"yes, sir" Ana replies, softly.

Bradford nods and they get back into the patrol car and drive back to the station.

"Get him processed." Bradford orders Ana, who nods and starts the process.

Bradford supervises Ana while Lucy and Nolan disappear into a hallway to talk, Bradford notices the disappearance but Ana doesn't.

Lucy catches up with them when Bradford is signing out Narcan from the quartermaster.

"Six doses of Narcan. Throwing quite a party, huh?" The supply officer jokes, making Ana smile.

"Hey. Do we really need all of that?" Lucy asks.

"Look, there's a bad batch of fentanyl making the rounds out there. Miller went through his entire overdose kit in two days." Bradford responds while Ana takes the six does of Narcan.

They arrive at Isabel's apartment.

"7-Adam-19, show us Code 6, Florence and Central Avenue." Bradford says over the radio. "stay here" Bradford tells Ana and Lucy.

"Luc-" Ana is interrupted as Lucy gets out of the car.

Ana sighs, getting out of the car as well.

"You deaf, Boots? I said stay in the car." Bradford orders.

"You're not helping her. You're enabling her." Lucy says, while Ana takes the Narcan from Bradford's hand.

"You know this because you're some shrink's kid? She's gonna shoot up, okay? That's the reality. This will save her life." Bradford responds, trying to take the Narcan back but Ana steps away so he can't.

"Addiction doesn't just destroy the addict. It destroys the family, too." Lucy insists.

"Who the hell are you to tell me this?" Bradford asks.

"Sir, please, what apartment is she in? I'll deliver it" Ana offers, softly, stepping in front of Lucy.

Ana and Bradford hold eye contact for a moment before Bradford relents.

"Paramedics said that it's apartment 510" Bradford says.

Ana heads up to Isabel's apartment while Lucy and Bradford talk - about what? Ana doesn't know, yet.

Ana knocks on the door, waiting until Isabel opens the door.

When Isabel sees it's a cop, she slams the door in her face.

"Isabel, wait, please" Ana calls.

"Go away. Y-You can't come in without a warrant." Isabel calls from the other side of the door.

"Isabel my name is Officer Ana Cabrera, my training officer Tim Bradford is downstairs and he'll knock the door down if you don't talk to me" Ana calls.

Isabel reluctantly opens the door and lets Ana in.

"um-... this is Narcan, it won't get you clean, just reverse the effects of an overdose" Ana says, softly, holding it out to Isabel.

"I know what Narcan is. Spent a decade bringing junkies back from the dead with it." Isabel responds, taking the Narcan.

"you were a paramedic?" Ana asks.

"No. A cop. Narcotics" Isabel responds. "he didn't tell you?"

"no, he doesn't like to talk about you" Ana replies.

"I- that's fair" Isabel sighs.

"So you met him while you were a cop?" Ana asks, softly, while Isabel ushers her out.

"Different divisions. I, uh I worked out of the 77th, volunteered for undercover as soon as I could. Tim was happy on patrol, so we synched our shifts as best we could. It was perfect - till it wasn't." Isabel says.

"your arm..." Isabel trails off. Ana looks to her shoulder and sees that she must've pulled her stitches during the fight with the biker and hurt her shoulder.

"oh, last week we got shot on duty, it's fine" Ana brushes off.

"'we'?" Isabel asks.

"yeah, Tim was shot in the stomach, needed surgery" Ana responds, softly.

"he really got shot?" Isabel questions.

"Yeah" Ana answers, softly, nodding.

"Don't let him come back here. There is no future here" Isabel says, before closing the door.

Ana sighs before walking back downstairs. She doesn't say anything as she gets into the car but she gets a look from Lucy and she knows she'll be telling Lucy the story later and Ana will be getting the story of what Lucy and Bradford talked about.

"she's okay" Ana murmurs, softly, finally. It breaks her heart a little the way Bradford relaxes.

Soon, they are en route as backup for the Zombies situation.

"7-Adam-19, we're inbound to assist." Bradford says over the radio when Bishop calls for backup.

The suspects freeze for a moment when their car arrives, but are soon sprinting down an alley. Lucy and Ana are already out of the car and Lucy says over the radio that they'll get Bower.

"Flashlights on, Boots. Eyes right. I got the left side covered." Bradford commands, his voice quieter as they enter the alley.

They start to be shot at and have to hide in front of the grill of the car.

"7-Adam-19, shots fired at our location. Requesting backup and airship." Bradford says over the radio.

"The good news is he's trapped. If I go over this trailer, I'll come up on top of him." Bradford decides.

"With all due respect, I should go." Lucy says, while Ana turns and returns fire at the suspect.

"Forget it." Bradford scoffs.

"Improvisation is a useful tool for a rookie to learn." Lucy points out.

"Good. All right. You passed tonight's test. Get your ass up there." Bradford says.

Ana watches Lucy climb up the trailer and point her gun down at the suspect.

"Police! Drop your weapon! Do it now! Get down on your stomach!" Lucy yells while Ana and Bradford go around either side of the truck. Ana pins him down.

"Hands behind your back" Ana says, while Bradford looks up at Lucy.

"What do you want, applause? Get down here." Bradford calls.

"7-Adam-19, Code 4. One in custody, one outstanding." Ana says over the radio, arresting the man.

[Timeskip - 9 pm - Monday | Home]

Ana just finished making sure her grandparents are actually sleep. They're like toddlers, always sneaking out to watch TV in the middle of the night. But now, instead of wanting to watch Bluey, they want to watch reruns of golf.

Ana's wearing a white long sleeve shirt and denim shorts, her hair down and she's cleaning the kitchen when there's a knock at the door. Ana goes over to answer it.

"hey" Ana says, tilting her head.

"hey" Lucy responds on the other side.

Ana steps aside, letting Lucy come in.

"you want something to drink?" Ana asks.

"no, I wanna get right down to Isabel" Lucy responds. Ana smiles, shutting the front door.
