"What did you do?" Ana hisses, turning to Carmen.

"Spanish, baby" Tim reminds her.

Ana's eyes widen, remembering they don't understand English.

"You were poisoned after eating their chili and Tamara was just poisoned after eating their carnitas" Ana points out.

"It's them, the people who betrayed you" Lucy gasps.

"They..." Ana turns to glance at her grandparents before turning around to look at Tim.

"We need evidence" Tim says.

"Do you think there's evidence at our apartment?" Ana asks.

"Cyanide isn't easy to dispose of, we'll find trace amounts for sure" Tim nods.

"But won't we find those anyway?" Lucy inquires.

"We will, but we'll also find fingerprints" Tim replies.

"We can't just go and search the apartment, they're currently staying there" Ana says.

"We'll need a distraction" Lucy realizes.

Tim comes up with an idea but hesitates, glancing at Ana.

"What?" Ana asks.

"The retirement home they're at is two hours away, if you say that you'll drive them back to the retirement home to pay the cash, then we can search the apartment" Tim explains.

"Let's do it" Ana nods.

"Wait, but if they are trying to kill you, should you be left alone with them?" Lucy questions.

"It's been through poisoning so far, so as long as you don't ingest anything they give you, you should be okay" Tim reasons.

"Let's do it" Ana agrees.

[Timeskip]

"abuela, Tamara va a estar bien y con todo lo que está pasando, creo que deberías volver a tu casa de retiro." Ana explains, softly. (grandma, Tamara is going to be okay, and with everything happening, I think you should go back to your retirement home.)

"Me parece una buena idea, cariño, ¿puedes dejarnos en la estación de autobuses?" Carmen requests. (that sounds like a good idea, honey, can you drop us off at the bus station?)

"Tonterías, los llevaré a todos de regreso." Ana frowns. (nonsense, I'll drive you all back.)

"Oh no, estaremos bien con el autobús." Jose shakes his head. (oh no, we'll be fine with the bus.)

"No, alguien está tratando de lastimar a las personas que amo y nunca podría perdonarme si algo les pasara a todos ustedes." Ana insists, softly. (no, someone's trying to hurt the people I love and I could never forgive myself if something happened to you all.)

"Nosotros estamos tomando el autobús, cariño." Mario basically orders. (we're taking the bus, honey.)

"¿por qué?" Ana asks, pulling out her soft, innocent eyes that can get anyone to melt. (why?).

Her grandparents exchange looks between each other before reluctantly nodding.

[Timeskip]

"You'll update me on Tamara?" Ana inquires, looking up at Tim while her grandparents are already in her car.

"Yeah, you have your service pistol?" Tim asks.

"I do, I won't need it" Ana promises.

"You don't know that" Tim sighs.

"I'll be careful" Ana murmurs.

Tim nods, cupping her face in his hands and kissing her.

"Don't push yourself, okay?" Ana requests.

"I won't and I'll watch over Tamara" Tim nods.

"Um, one more thing" Ana starts.

"What?" Tim asks, immediately becoming concerned.

"Tamara, she called you 'dad'" Ana reveals, biting her lip and giving him a smile.

"She did?" Tim questions, his jaw dropping.

"Yeah, when she saw you having a seizure, she was so scared, she called you dad" Ana tells him, softly.

Tim starts to grin. "I like that, a lot"

"I figured you would" Ana giggles.

"God, she really said it?" Tim chuckles, elated.

Ana nods, smiling. "Maybe you could talk to her about it?"

"I definitely will" Tim answers. "I wanna hear her say that all the time"

"I think she'll be more than willing" Ana smiles.

"Cariño estas lista para ir?" Esmerelda calls from the car. (honey, are you ready to go?)

"Un minuto más, abuela." Ana calls. (one more minute, grandma.)

"You call me if anything seems off again, okay?" Tim says, cupping her face in his hands.

"Okay, and you call me if anything happens with you or Tamara" Ana agrees.

"I will" Tim nods.

Ana stands up on her tiptoes and connects their lips. They stay like that for a long moment, before Ana separates the kiss and hugs him tight.

"It's going to be okay, love, I promise" Tim assures her.

"I love you" Ana murmurs.

"I love you too" Tim smiles.

[Time Skip]

"Cariño, ¿podríamos parar a comer?" Mario requests about thirty minutes into the drive. (honey, could we stop for food?)

"Um..." Ana frowns, looking down at the gas meter and sees they need gas. "Sí, sí podemos." (yeah, yeah we can).

Ana gets off the interstate and pulls into a gas station.

"Dinero" Esmerelda says, holding out her hand for money. (money.)

"Ah, claro, por supuesto." Ana nods, pulling out her purse and handing her 20 dollars. (oh, right, of course.)

Esmerelda frowns down at the amount. Ana sighs and hands her another twenty. Esmerelda nods in approval and her and Ana's other grandparents enter the gas station while Ana fills up the tank with gas.

Ana smiles when she sees a text from Tim.

"Te traemos unas donas y una limonada." Carmen says, handing Ana the food. (we got you some donuts and a lemonade.)

"Oh, gracias, pero no tengo mucha hambre." Ana turns down politely. (oh, thank you, but I'm not very hungry.)

"tienes que comer, miel, eres piel y huesos." Esmerelda insists. (you've got to eat, honey, you're skin and bone.)

"Lo comeré más tarde." Ana promises. (I'll snack on it later.)

"Bien" Carmen huffs as they all get back into the car. (fine)

[Timeskip]

"Hey, kid, how you doing?" Tamara hears Tim's voice when she starts to wake up.

"I'm sore" Tamara groans, trying to sit up.

"No, no, don't sit up" Tim insists, gently laying her back down.

"Where's mom?" Tamara asks, looking around the hospital room.

"You're stuck with me for now, she's with her grandparents" Tim tells her.

"Tim, the carnitas they made me, it tasted weird and when I googled the taste, it said it was Cyanide and then it all went black" Tamara rushes to explain.

"That's where... mom is, she's taking them back to their retirement home so we can search the apartment" Tim grins at being able to refer to Ana as 'mom' with Tamara.

"So you know it's them?" Tamara inquires.

"We're pretty damn sure" Tim nods. "We just need to get the evidence to prove it"

"Is m- Ana going to be okay?" Tamara questions, now aware that she's been calling Ana 'mom'.

"Yeah, she's safe, she should be arriving at the retirement home in an hour or so" Tim promises.

"You brought him" Tamara smiles, seeing her stuffed bear and holding him close.

"Ana wanted to make sure you had him" Tim grins.

"Can we not tell her that I called her 'mom'?" Tamara requests.

"No can do, because then we couldn't talk about how you called me 'dad'" Tim smirks.

"Ana told you?" Tamara gapes.

"She did, to make me smile" Tim smiles.

"It makes you happy?" Tamara asks, surprised.

"Of course it makes me happy when someone I see as my daughter calls me dad" Tim responds.

"You see me as a daughter?" Tamara whispers.

"I do, I'm so damn proud of you and I'd really like it if you kept calling me dad" Tim requests.

"I've never had a dad" Tamara sniffles.

"I know, kid" Tim says.

"I want you to be my dad" Tamara decides.

"I will, I promise" Tim assures her before hugging her.

Tamara starts to cry in his arms and she can feel Tim's own tears hitting the back of her shirt.

"Hold on, it's Lucy" Tim says, pulling away from Tamara when his phone starts to ring.

"What's up, Luce?" Tim asks.

"The retirement home that her grandparents stayed at, it doesn't exist" Lucy reveals.

"What do you mean?" Tim inquires.

"We were going through the papers at Ana's apartment, the building exists but it's not a retirement home, it's an abandoned building" Lucy rushes out.

[Time Skip]

"Lo tengo, abuela" Ana says, pulling their luggage out of the trunk. (I got it, grandma).

"Gracias, mija" Carmen smiles and leads her into the retirement home with her other grandparents following after. (thank you, darling.)

"Ah, you must be their granddaughter" A woman smiles, not looking up from her computer.

"Yeah, Ana Cabrera, I have the payments I missed" Ana nods, handing the woman the cash.

The woman counts it before looking up.

"My, my, officer Cabrera, you're just so naive" Ana gasps when she realizes it's the same woman working with Davion in the desert.

Ana can't react before Mario hits her over the head with a chair and Ana falls to the ground, unconscious.
