As she entered the hut Rontu had lead her she saw a beastman laying on a nest of pelts. She stepped closer to him observing his current state. A surge of compassion washed over her. She couldn't bear to watch this man succumb to his illness without lending a helping hand. With a trembling step, Karee approached him, her heart heavy with both sorrow and determination. As she reached for his wrist, Karee felt a feeble pulse beneath her fingertips. His breath came in ragged gasps, and his eyes were glazed with pain. She knew his time was running out. Summoning her knowledge of herbs, she began her diagnosis. His symptoms pointed toward a severe infection, one that could easily claim his life if left untreated. She quicky went outside looking at the plants in the area, her eyes searching for ant herbs she needed. Fate smiled upon Karee as she spotted some nearby violets. Their cooling and antibacterial properties were exactly what the mam needed. With swift hands, Karee picked the flowers and crushed them into a paste in a stone bowl. She then mixed the paste with some water and administered it to the man. "On such a short amount of time this should reduce his fever and help him get back on the right track." She said while holding the man's head in her hand making it easier to get him to drink. "Are you positive that will help, you just crushed up a flower?" Rontu asked voice slightly skeptical. To Rontus astonishment, within minutes, the mans fever began to subside. His breathing became less labored, and color slowly returned to his face. As they watched over him, Karee felt an overwhelming sense of gratitude for the knowledge she had acquired. The sun had long set by the time the man regained consciousness. He looked up at her, his eyes filled with a mixture of awe and gratitude."You saved my life," he whispered. "I thought all was lost." He said with a gentle smile across his face. "It's no problem sir, but you will need to rest here for a few more days and will need to keep taking the medication I made until we are certain your ok." She said smiling at the man. Looking back at Rontu she asked "is everyone experiencing the same symptoms or is there multiple sickness going around?" "All symptoms are the same, some of the people who have gotten sick have naturally recovered but it took about 14 days, Those who are sick and don't get better have mainly died." He responds while helping her stand back to her feet. "Are there any other symptoms I'm not aware of?" Rontu thinks for a moment before responding. "The most common symptoms I have seen have been fever, laborer breathing, diarrhea, and some have had sore and weak muscles, more females or mated males have fallen sick compared to unmated males.." "Judging by that I am almost positive it is some type infection most likely caused by something they have all consumed." She looks back at the man she had just helped, "Sir, before you got sick do you remember eating or drinking anything?" He closed his eyes to think about what he consumed, "I hadent eaten the day I became ill but my mate had me get some water from the well outside so I gathered some and we both drank. By noon we were both sick, thankfully she recovered." "I see," she looked back to Rontu "I need to inspect the well, can you take me to it." He quicklynoddedhis head "Of course, I'll lead the way." He quickly grabs her hand leading her out the sick man's home. Apon arriving at the well everything seemed normal. Rontu lowered the bucket deep into the well to retrieve water for the girl to inspect. Once the water was retrieved she leaned closer to inspect it. The water had a murky look but what stood out the most was the smell. It was a pungent odor reminding her of a dead animal. She quickly dumped out the water and turns to look into the well. As she peered into the murky depths, the foul odor flooded her nostrils, the smell even stronger than what was in the bucket. A closer examination revealed a gruesome sight, the lifeless body of a bird partially submerged in the water, body already decomposing. Panic surged through Karee as she realized the dire consequence of her discovery. The dead bird, she deduced, had contaminated the water supply, poisoning the villagers. The symptoms all aligned a deadly virus transmitted through contaminated water. Time was of the essence. "We need to fill the well to stop people from using the water. There is a dead bird that has contaminated the water supply." Rontu nodded his head and looks up to the sky and let's out a lounge howl causing many males to appear. "The water in the well has been causing the sickness, we need to fill it up with dirt and stone so no one else gets sick. Half of you work on that while to other half start digging a new well on the other side of the village." With that they all got to work. She looked at Rontu curiosity on her face, "Why did they all listen to you so quickly?" She asked him causing him to chuckle. "I guess I forgot to explain something to you. Do you see these?" He questioned while pointing to 3 black bands on his arm causing her to nod. "This is a beast level mark you gain them by getting stronger, when you're born you have none but depending on how strong you get you can obtain up to 5." "OK, thats cool but what does that have to do with my question?" She asked still observing the marks she thought were tattoos. "Well the only person in the village who has more than me is the chief who has 4, no one else in the village has more than 2 so since I am stronger than the rest they listen to me if I give out an order as long as it doesnt go against the cheif." "I suppose that makes sense. While they do that can you take me to the old witch doctors house so I can see what plants he had left that I might be able to treat the rest of the sick villagers with?" "No problem." He stayed with a bright smile. He quickly picks the girl up in his arms causing her cheeks to go red as he takes off tords the abandoned home.
