Kashi was currently in front of the mirror getting the final touch ups for his makeup and hair. The staff members being too focused on their work to pay any attention to him, Ichika strictly reminding him of the important guests and his reputation, his phone blowing up from notifications of news of his performance––everything was the norm.

Well, except for one thing.

This is the first time (Y/n) is seeing me perform live!

Kashi's expression was peaceful as the staff touched up his appearance. On the inside? He was essentially screaming. If he had been alone, Kashi would've smacked his cheeks in order to calm down. Instead, he opted to inconspicuously drum his fingers against his thigh.

(Y/n) will see how cool I look on stage. He resisted the urge to nod to himself in determination. It felt a little childish, but it was fun. Singing to impress someone––not because he had to or because it contributed to his reputation as an idol; what he felt was innocent excitement.

Singing because I have too...

Before Kashi's thoughts wandered, he saw you in his peripheral vision. What were you doing backstage?

"(Y/n)? What are you doing here?"

"I wanted to make a small speech before you guys perform. Some kind of introduction, you know? Don't worry, I won't be stealing the spotlight for too long."

For some reason, Kashi had a feeling there was something more to it. "I see, that's cool! Good luck."

You smiled appreciatively and thanked him. After seeing that expression on your face the idol was almost tempted to shower you in more encouragement. But alas, he was glued to his seat getting his makeup done.

In the middle of your speech, Kashi and Genji waited not too far from the stage. It was almost nostalgic. Kashi remembered when you had some troubles at the start of your student council speech, and here you were standing in front of a crowd far more intimidating than a bunch of students. Even if you were nervous, you spoke with confidence.

"... And finally, I'd like to acknowledge the efforts of our two idols who will be kindly putting on a performance for us today."

When your eyes went over to where Kashi was a part of him perked up at the thought that you might've looked to him for reassurance. Kashi was about to smile cheerfully and give a thumbs up, but his heart paused when he noticed something.

Your eyes fell only on Genji.

It was only for a split moment before you glanced away, but Kashi was sure of it.

Don't overthink it. Kashi continuously repeated that in his mind. It's just a coincidence, don't make it a bigger deal than it needs to be.

From what he could tell, it really was just a brief glance. If anything, you were unhappy to see Genji. However, his observation wasn't reliable as he was too caught up in his emotions to discern people like usual. New thoughts surfaced and, though well hidden on the outside, an equivocal bitterness tinged the blue-haired idol's mood.

Kashi always wondered, what were your exact feelings for Genji? Were there any lingering affection? How did you act towards Genji? What kind of dates did you go on? Why did you even fall for him in the first place? When Kashi showed you a picture of Genji, you said that you didn't recognise him––was that only because you wanted to leave that past behind?

... If you two dated, that meant at some point you loved Genji.

Kashi held back a scowl. I'm jealous. There was a pause. He... was jealous?

A sudden wave of applause snapped Kashi back to reality. Oh, it was almost time to perform. Kashi noticed your small sigh of relief when you had concluded your speech. You passed by him and nodded in encouragement whilst ignoring Genji. Satisfaction enveloped Kashi's heart at that.

Right, there must be a reason that she broke up with Genji in the first place. Kashi stepped onto the stage. (Y/n) likes me more, I'm sure of it.

Thus, the performance began. The music vanquished the restaurant and the presence of the two idols captured everyone's attention. Excited shouts shook the air as Kashi flashed a charismatic smile.

The bright smile plastered on Kashi's face felt like he was nailing them upwards. The lively movements and musical voice that danced in the air felt strained, as if he was dragging the words out and forcing them to flow perfectly with his movements and the music. The atmosphere was heavy with expectations and the luminous lights of blue and red struggled in vain to give vitality to his heart.

It didn't help when Kashi saw a group of people on their phones, their attention off the performance. Then; slowly, as the performance progressed he felt like everyone's attention was strictly focused on Genji. His composure slipped for a moment. Now the bright lights looked down at him derisively, mocking his inability to shine brighter. Desperation placed a hand on Kashi's shoulder, smiled apologetically and took over the spotlight. It left the idol in the darkness for his mind to wander dangerously.

Do I not stand out enough in comparison to Genji?

He smiled a little wider, but made sure to not strain it too much. It was his charm––that puppy-like liveliness. He needed to make sure it appealed to his fans.

What if...

His singing grew a little quicker, but he was quick to correct the mistake.

... What if no one ends up clapping for me?

Again. He was having these thoughts again.

Even if things went well, even if the performance was a success––he wouldn't feel happy. He would feel momentary relief.

The idol wanted people to find comfort in his music, he wanted to send a message to touch the hearts of his fans, he wanted to be someone that gained notability not just for his appearance or catchy songs; but because he was someone people genuinely looked up to. He could do so much more with his music.

But all he could do was deliver songs filled with empty words.

He was too afraid to challenge what was already comfortable. After all, as many would say, Kashi was in a wonderful position in the entertainment industry. Why risk losing it?

No good––he was getting stressed out.

Instinctively, Kashi searched for you in the crowd. When he saw the subtle furrow of your eyebrows, he knew that you could tell something was wrong. Knowing that you see him for more than the facade he put on for others was comforting. Knowing that he could make as many mistakes as he wanted and you wouldn't judge him for it eased the panic. And knowing that you'd be there to support him made his heart warm. You've seen his bad side, you've heard him vent and yet you're still here.

What if I focus only on (Y/n) in this performance?

Kashi wanted to laugh at himself. Wasn't he initially excited to perform for you? To impress you like a person would want to impress their crush?

Even if the lyrics didn't have the emotions and messages he wanted, even if he doubted his capabilities, even if he doubted that the crowd enjoyed the performance––all of those worries were washed away when he thought about you. You were someone who he enjoyed being in the company of dearly, you were someone he trusted with his feelings.

Ah, his heart felt so much lighter. For once, the stage didn't wrap thin strings around his wrists and forced him to be shackled to his self doubt and overthinking. Just focusing on you made his voice soar far and his smile more radiant than ever. If only he could extend an arm out to you, announce to the whole world how much you meant to him. Perhaps one day he might even dedicate a concert for you?

Kashi was a huge fan of cheesy romance, so the thoughts were a little silly. But it made him happy.

After a few songs, the performance came to an end. The restaurant held its breath for a moment before everyone broke into a loud applause for his and Genji's performance.Kashi displayed gratitude; however he waited for your reaction with the most anticipation. Your eyes met his and a wide smile was on your face. Mouthing 'good job!' you clapped for him––yes, you clapped only for him.

Her smile is so pretty.

The two idols exited the stage and Kashi walked behind Genji.

I like (Y/n).

A blush threatened to suffuse his cheeks. Instead, a smile graced his lips and he hummed happily.

I like (Y/n)!

"Someone looks happy," Genji quipped, pulling Kashi out of his reverie. "Am I that fun to perform with? If you say please, I'll consider a second concert with you."

Kashi shook his head. He contemplated on not saying his next words. But, considering Genji's character, Kashi found no risk in letting the redhead into some of his thoughts.

"I just found someone I'm interested in."

"Oh? Someone you found hot in the crowd?"

Kashi nodded, a bashful look on his face; though, it was slightly exaggerated for show.

"You can say that. Do you think (Y/n) would accept my confession?"

Kashi observed Genji's reaction carefully. Seeing the subtle pause in his step to the fleeting tightening of his hands, Kashi knew that Genji was surprised. In the redhead's pink eyes, there was a slow daunting realisation as well as possible hints of denial. Normally, it would go by unnoticed. Unluckily for Genji, Kashi was good at noticing things in people.

Kashi bit back a satisfied smile. So many complicated emotions. So he does feel something for her still.

A usual smirk on his lips, Genji replied, "Who knows?"

Kashi chuckled under his breath. It was safe to say that Genji won't be telling you about his feelings.

"I wonder."

Chatter swept across the restaurant. Everyone was bustling with energy, each discussion revolving around the idols' performance. Damn, you wondered how much more intense it'd be at an actual concert. They have glow sticks there, right? Ugh, now you were curious.

As much as you'd hate to admit it, Genji did have talent for stage presence. It was almost arrogant, as if he had walked up to you and forcefully turned your attention on him only––it appealed to certain audiences. And he knew it appealed to them. And yeah, his voice was good as well. However, your attention was mainly on Kashi for the entirety of the songs. Both out of spite and in support of your friend.

"I might actually buy tickets for Kashi's next concert," you said. "That was really good."

Kai lit up. "I'll come with!"

"I'll baby sit you two," Himari grumbled.

You chuckled. Right, the siblings were fans of Kashi's music.

At first, you felt a spectre of uneasiness watching Kashi's performance. Yes, he had his usual charismatic smile and melodious voice. However, knowing aspects of his past and having him open up to you made you wonder how he was handling the performance. He had a tendency in letting his mind wander and overthink.

When your eyes met his at one point, you mouthed words of encouragement on a whim. Did it help? No idea, but if it did you'd be glad. Either way, the next few minutes after that you were swept away by his singing. It wasn't like the chorus changed or Genji was suddenly off the stage (you wished this part was the case). You had no idea, you weren't a musician, but it definitely left you in awe.

"(Y/n)!"

Speak of the devil. You stood up from your seat and were immensely taken aback when Kashi tackled you into a hug. You stumbled back a little and, incredibly confused. Thankfully it was a quick hug, so quick in fact you almost doubted it happened and didn't get a chance to even contemplate on returning the embrace.

"Did you like the performance?"

"Yeah, obviously." You swallowed your surprise at the sudden intimacy. Was he not worried about rumours? "You were amazing out there. I almost became a fan."

"Almost? Guess I need to work harder."

"I don't know about that, I have pretty high standards."

"Hey, hey." Kai pulled you back "You can't just hug her like that!"

Himari grabbed your arm. "Get in line."

What is going on.

Kashi chuckled at their antics, throwing his arms up in mock surrender. "Sorry, sorry."

Moving on, how was Kashi not being swarmed with fans at the moment? After a quick glance around, you had your answer. Two words: Body guards. Anddddd, now you were intimidated. They weren't obnoxiously close you to, but just seeing buff men who looked ready to snap your neck wasn't exactly comforting.

Closely approaching you was Ichika, her dark red hair and eyes really stood out. Oh, and Genji was there as well talking to a group of girls. You would hold intimidating eye contact if it weren't for the fact that the siblings were glued by your side.

Since I need to prevent his death, should I keep a close eye on him? But there's also Hayami I need to be careful of.

Would Kashi hurt Genji in such a populated environment, though? Especially when Genji was probably also watched over by body guards. Was it better to focus more on Hayami than Genji for the time being?

Ichika smiled at you, her red lips complimenting her eyes a little too deviously. "Did you enjoy the performance, (L/n)-san?"

Hhh, I didn't want to deal with her.

You smiled. Thank god there was no mirror or else you would've gaged at how fake you looked.

"Of course! I can tell there was a lot of effort put into it."

The woman nodded in content. She leaned in closer to you and whispered, "I have yet to announce this to the public, but there will be a concert with the two in the near future."

Ah, now that sounds more like an environment where Genji's death would occur. Ugh, looks like you're gonna have to buy tickets. How much do they go for––wait, scratch that. Will you even be able to get a hold of them before they're sold out?

Ichika pulled back. "Backstage tickets are available."

Really now.

You hid the flicker of interest in your expression. First of all, why would Ichika tell you that? Was it because you had some form of connection to the idols?

I feel like I'm walking into a trap.

"I bet they're super easy to get," you quipped sarcastically.

"I appreciate the humour." Ichika chuckled. "I hate to cut this conversation short, but I'd like to discuss something with Genji-san and Kashi-san. If you'd excuse us."

You politely bid her goodbye and Kashi showed you his typical cheerful smile before leaving. Though, you had a feeling the quick exchange between you and Ichika made him feel either curiosity or uneasiness. You redirected your focus back to those on your table. You were so distracted by Kashi that you had completely forgotten about Yusei––wait.

"Where's Yusei?"

The Kasumi siblings exchanged glances.

"He went off somewhere." Kai shrugged. "Doing... I don't know––building connections or something?"

Leaving Yusei out of your sight? That was a recipe for disaster.

"I'm gonna go find him."

"What?" Himari looked extremely offended. "Hang out with us, we're much better company."

I honestly cannot deny that.

You laughed at the siblings' annoyed expressions. "I'll be back as soon as possible. Just need to deliver a quick message."

Begrudgingly, the siblings let you go. You spilled a hundred thank yous before entering the crowd. Despite the event taking place in a restaurant, you thought the atmosphere more so resembled a banquet. Rather than sitting in one spot and eating, people went from table to table and some held conversations standing up.

After a few minutes of anxiously finding a certain purple haired male, you finally spotted him talking to a group of students on a table. Damn, how the hell did he fit in so quickly.

What really caught your eye was the fact that Hayami and her twin sister were on the same table as Yusei. Yup, something was definitely going down here sooner or later. Yusei's table was full, so asking to join the conversation would only result in awkward stares. Yeah, no thanks.

What was there you could do...

An idea came across your mind. You took in a deep breath and wore a coat of confidence before approaching a table nearby Yusei's. There were a few free seats available on this one, thankfully. Lacing as much amiability as possible in your next words, you asked,

"Mind if I sit here? It seems like a fun conversation."

The students looked at you in surprise, but they were quick to welcome your presence. Phew, student council perks.

"(L/n)-san! I didn't expect you to join us. The pastries your family made are really good!" student number one beamed. "Oh, do you remember who I am?"

Uh.

You sewed on a smile. "Inoue-san, right?"

She nodded happily. "Yes!

Thank god you did your research. Though, the fact that you got it right was a complete accident. You and Yusei went through the lists of guests together and at one point the faces and names all became a blur to you. As you were struggling to survive memorising names, Yusei began eating fruit whilst reading a book right in front of you. A hint of an amused smile was on his face every now and then as you held back the urge to flip him off.

Alright, new objective. Somehow maintain conversation on your table whilst eavesdropping on the conversation over on Yusei's table.

"By the way, did you and Yusei plan the gifts together?" student number two asked. "They're so cute!"

Oh? Lucky me. I can ditch the objective.

"Yup. It was mainly his doing. If you're curious, I can ask him about it in more detail."

An opportunity to have an excuse to refer to Yusei's table. You had a feeling he was partially listening into your conversation as well because the moment the next words left your lips, you made eye contact with his pink-purple hues.

"I mean, his table is right there."
