After the restless night, I push my body off of the ground and look around acknowledging my surroundings. It looked like it was 8 or 9 am, whatever time it was, it felt early. I brush off leafs from my body and fix up my hair. I could really go for a shower right about now and lowkey some coffee.
I get from underneath the fort clutching my bag next to me and see the others doing a huddle. They looked like they were planning on what to do next.
"Morning sleeping beauty," My dad tells me noticing that I woke up.
"Stop Dad, I look awful right now," I say while fixing my hair and clothes. I guarantee that my body still hasn't woken up yet and I generally felt so dirty.
"We gotta keep moving," Mike tells us cutting the conversation short. "Since Y/N still has her phone, they could be tracking us so we need to go," He continues.
"I agree," Armando says. All of our eyes find him.
"Then let's go, lead the way," I say while shortly following after them. ——— I trailed behind them as we continue our walk and after what feels like two whole hours, we find a run-down western town.
"I don't know about this place..," My dad says while crouching behind a wooden fence.
"It looks like a barn," I whisper to them. Armando and I were on the other side from Marcus and Mike. "Something about it just feels so wild Wild West," I explain to them through a louder whisper.
"Let's scope out the scene first, we don't know what could happen," Mike tells us but Armando disobeys that by crouch running to behind a old blue pick-up truck.
"Perfect! Do exactly the opposite of the plan," I say. "Mike, your son is a little disobedient," I continue while looking over to his annoyed face.
"Tell me about it," He says while motioning for us to follow him.
Once we saw that the coast was clear we stopped crouching and started to go through the stuff. I found a clean set of clothes and immediately started to get dressed behind a stack of tires.
I took off my work clothes and replaced it with a light pink tank top and shorts. I shoved my clothes into my bag and turned around to see that Mike and Marcus were being held at by gunpoint. I turned my focus to the people and the flag behind them.
"Oh shit...," I say. I look at all the clothes around me and read the text off the shirts. "Just our luck," I continue under my breath shocked by the both racist and patriotic words on it.
I look over trying to find Armando just to see him setting up the truck. At least we got some lead time. I walk over to Mike and Marcus to attempt to help their situation.
"Howdy there partner! These "men" bothering you?," I ask the two middle aged guys. "I don't want them in our town either, trust me," I say trying to pretend like I'm on their side.
"Nice try, get over there with them," One of the men say while dragging their gun from me to an empty spot next to Marcus.
"Yep we're screwed, listen I really don't wanna go down this way so could you just pass me that and I'll do the honors," I say while pointing to the gun, motioning for him to pass it to me.
"Shut up Y/N," Mike says through gritted teeth.
"Excuse me but I'd rather not have raging racists kill us," I whisper back to him. The men shush us once more before opening their mouths again.
"How about you little boys and girl sing us a song," He says with a laugh. "A Reba one," He continues while looking over to his friend who's also laughing.
"A reba song... oh uh," My dad says unsure while looking over to Mike. I'm confused why he wants us to sing one until I see Reba dead center in Mikes shirt.
"Uhm.. you hurt me at night... cause she was hurt," Mike and Marcus starts. "but that made... uhm changes...," They continue.
"Wait Reba? That's my girl!," I tell them remembering how I used to binge watch her iconic show "Reba" whenever I was sick. "Man I got this," I tell Mike and Marcus.
"Y/N no, you ain't know nothing about Reba..," Marcus says.
"Uh duhhh I do," I tell him while shooting him a don't you worry look. I clear my throat and start to sing.
"A single mom who works two jobs, who loves her kids and never stops, with gentle hands and heart of a fighter, I'm a survivorrrrr!," I finish with a little vocalizing.
Mike and Marcus look at me with shocked faces.
"Seeeeee, me and Reba go way back," I tell them with a smile.
"What you think about that Timmy?," The guy asks while looking over to his buddy.
"I don't know Tommy.. maybe they should do a dance while they're at it!," Timmy tells him while they both laugh in the most annoying harmony.
I open my mouth to speak but before I can, Armando drives the pick-up truck through the men; pushing them out the way. We all jump into the trunk part of the car while he keeps driving. My dad shares some last words with the men saying how he wasn't stealing cause he was black.
"Dad it's just not worth it...," I say to him.
"Ugh they just disgust me," He says back to me while making a disgusted face. "So you and Reba..," He starts. ——— "It feels like we've been driving for hours," I say to Armando. After a good thirty minutes we reconvened and got a better seating arrangement. I was right next to him joined by Mike and my dad.
"I think it's only been 3 hours?," Mike suggests.
"Feels like an eternity," I say back. I fix my tank top and sit back against the seats. "I like your hat," I tell Armando. He was dressed in light washed blue jeans, a bud light shirt, and a white ball cap with the American flag on it.
"me gusta tu camisa," He pesters back. I just roll my eyes and laugh while he continues to drive. After another 30 minutes the car ride was quiet, a deep tension felt visible. (i like your shirt)
"Did you ever love her?," Armando says out of the blue. My dad and I share a look and then take our glances back to Mike.
"What?," Mike says confused.
"My mother, did you ever love her?," Armando answers.
"He's expressing," Marcus leans over and whispers to Mike.
"I definitely loved her," Mike tells Armando while ignoring my dad's comment.
"Awww," My dad and I say in unison.
"And then you left?," Armando suggests while cutting us off.
"Ooou," My dad and I say in unison perfectly again.
"I made some mistakes," Mike starts.
"Like me," Armando suggests.
"Now you know that is-," Mike starts but was cut off by my dad.
"Now wait a damn minute Armando," My dad says
"Dad please don't-," I say but was also cut off
"He's trying to make up for it, he don't owe you a damn thing," My dad says straight to him.
"Now hold on Marcus, you're being a little aggressive," Mike tells him trying to get him to calm down.
"I've been a Dad for a long time Mike, he need to hear this, he needs some tough ass love," Marcus says and looks back over to Armando.
"This can't be happening," I whisper to myself embarrassed by my dad.
"Armando, maybe he does owe you something, with your mom being deceived by him, you being born in prison in a web of lies," My dad says. Please make him stop. "That turned your ass into a stone cold fucking killer," He continues. Armando takes his eyes of the road and stares my dad right into his eyes with a blunt look.
"Okay Dad, it's time for you to take a quick nap. Let's turn on music," I suggest but as I reach for the radio the car starts to let out creaky noises and soon stops. "Great! Your amazing fatherly speech killed the truck," I tell my dad annoyed while rolling my eyes.
"My bad," He says in a sorry tone. Armando checks one more thing on the car to see if it'll work. He lets out a deep sigh and looks out the window.
"Yeah that's dead," Mike says confirming our thoughts. "We're not far from Tabitha's," Mike continues.
"Mike no, you know that woman is crazy," My dad says.
"Isn't she the same one that tried to make you lick whip cream off her body?," I ask remembering the story that my dad told our family during Thanksgiving dinner.
"Yeah, but she likes me. She's our only hope," He says answering me.
"I don't think she likes you as much as you think," My dad tells him reluctantly.
"Pony's about two miles from here," Mike tell us about Tabitha's club while looking out the window.
"What's the pony?," Armando asks. ——— it genuinely makes me so happy seeing everyone's sweet and funny comments!! thank you for reading and please let me know if there's anything misspelled 💕💕
