A few days after (Y/N)'s training with Unohana.

The (L/N) family all sat at the dining room eating dinner. While they ate, the family were having a conversation amongst each other.

(F/N): So, how's everyone's week going so far?

(S/N): It's been good so far. I've been practicing for an audition for a play at school this week. I feel confident about landing the lead role.

Calavera: That's great! I feel stressed out... Training with dad and Urahara is a handful.

(Y/N): Yikes... Training with Urahara is already a death wish. Adding dad only adds to the pressure

(F/N): Don't be like that. You've improved a lot. I have to say though, you kids these days improve a bit too quickly. It's a bit scary.

Calavera: You're giving me too much credit... But I'll take a compliment any day of the week.

(Y/N): I'm sure dad means it.

(F/N): What about you, (Y/N)?

(Y/N): I lost a fight today.

Everyone at the table stared at (Y/N) disbelief.

(F/N): You? Losing? Yeah, right.

Calavera: You were in Hueco Mundo earlier today, right? Who did you fight? Was it Wiz?

(Y/N): I don't doubt Wiz could beat me. She probably knows my abilities the best out of everyone in Hueco Mundo, but it wasn't her. It was actually Grimmjow.

Calavera: Wasn't that the guy you promised to fight during the Azashiro and Cien fiasco?

(Y/N): The very same.

(S/N): So how did this guy win, exactly?

(Y/N): He was just better than I was, that's all.

(F/N): By that response, you let him win on purpose, didn't you?

(Y/N): Not sure what you're talking about...

Calavera: I heard you and Ichigo's entire conversation when you first brought it up. Does "Ichigo, my dear friend and sworn brother. Are you insinuating that I'd lose against Grimmjow?" ring any bells?

(Y/N): How... How did you remember that?

(F/N): Of course you threw the fight... Why?

(Y/N): I thought "If I win, Grimmjow might be a sore loser about it and he wouldn't leave me alone. Why not let him win."

(F/N): Did it work?

(Y/N): To be honest, it almost didn't. Thankfully I had an idea that did work.

(Flashback)

Grimmjow and (Y/N) stood in an empty field in Hueco Mundo, away from Las Noches. Wiz, alongside Harribel's fraccion decided to spectate the match from a further, much safer distance.

Apacci: Can we all agree that Grimmjow is asking for a death wish?

Sung-Sun: Anyone can see that much.

Mila Rose: (Y/N) outmatches him in every way.

Wiz: Although that's true, I believe Grimmjow that very reason may be the reason Grimmjow wins.

The Tres Bestias looked at Wiz in confusion.

Apacci: What's that supposed to mean?

Sung-Sun: I'm confused as well.

Wiz: (Y/N) knows he can win, but will (Y/N) really fight Grimmjow to win?

MIla Rose: I'm confused, because it sounds like you believe that (Y/N) is going to let Grimmjow win on purpose.

Wiz: That's exactly what I'm getting at.

Sung-Sun: But why would he do that? What does (Y/N) gain from throwing the match anyway?

Wiz: Think about it this way. Grimmjow is a man who treats his opponent as prey that's to be hunted. That means unless Grimmjow can show that he's above them in strength, he will continue to chase after them. Grimmjow even proved this when he saved Orihime from Aizen's grasp to heal Ichigo during our initial invasion of Las Noches. He didn't want Ichigo to die unless it was by his hands. He targeted (Y/N) soon after he learned that (Y/N) killed Luppi. Which means-

Mila Rose: If (Y/N) wins this fight then Grimmjow will continue to challenge (Y/N) until either he beats (Y/N) or one of them dies.

Wiz: Correct. And as we know, (Y/N) wouldn't kill Grimmjow.

Apacci: Does (Y/N) know what he got himself in?

Wiz: I'm sure he does, which is why I predicted he'd lose on purpose.

Sung-Sun: Grimmjow isn't dumb. He knows the gap between their powers is huge. (Y/N) will have to put on a pretty convincing show if he wants Grimmjow to believe he really won the fight fair and square.

Wiz: (Y/N) must've found out a way to trick Grimmjow.

As Wiz and the Tres Bestias were throwing around their predictions, (Y/N) and Grimmjow were preparing to fight.

Grimmjow: You finally decided to stop running, eh (L/N)?

(Y/N): I had some free time so I decided to get it over and done with.

Grimmjow: I hope you counted the last few minutes of your life.

(Y/N): Whatever you say... I hope you're realized this isn't going to be a 1v1. Unfortunately my power means that I'm never fighting alone.

Grimmjow: You can pull out as many parlor tricks as you want. I'll still kill you at the end of it all.

(Y/N): As long as you're okay with it.

(Y/N) grew a wide grin on his face.

"Are you ready for your grand return..."

"Of course I am!"

(Y/N): I'll tell you this ahead of time, I'm gonna make this a two on one. I won't be summoning anyone else, alright?

Grimmjow: You're an arrogant bastard, aren't ya?

(Y/N): Nah, I just think you'd really want to fight the guy I'm assigning as my partner for this battle.

Grimmjow was confused until a shadow started to form besides (Y/N). However, instead of the shadowy appearance that (Y/N)'s summonings usually took, this summon was completely visible to the eye's view. Almost like... The summon was alive.

The Tres Bestias knew exactly who they were looking at.

Apacci: Hey, isn't that-

Sung-Sun: It is... But he didn't look like that before. He was more... ghostly...

Mila Rose: Is this a result of (Y/N) getting stronger or did he discover something new?

Even Grimmjow was confused.

Grimmjow: You looking to piss me off or something? He looks a little too real.

"What this? You looked surprised Grimmjow? Are you surprised that I'm alive?"

Grimmjow: Luppi, you damn bastard...

Grimmjow looked over to (Y/N), clearly not happy to see Luppi again.

Grimmjow: I thought you said you killed him?

(Y/N): I did. Long story short, someone in Soul Society was a bit... curious, and started experimenting on dead arrancars. And low and behold that person learned how to revive the arrancars that were killed in the invasion. At least the ones whose bodies he got his hands on. He was surprisingly generous to leave Luppi in my care.

Grimmjow: So what? Luppi came crying back to you because he was scared of some scientist? Ha! Still as pathetic as ever!

Luppi: You sure talk a lot, Number Six. Oh, I'm sorry... I mean the "former" six.

Grimmjow's eyes twitched in anger as Luppi brought up his Espada rank.

Luppi: Oh, that's right! You only got your rank back by default, huh? I bet you wanted to kill me to take it back by force, but you lost the chance. Not like you can do it now. The Espadas are now disbanded. You'll never get that chance again. You'll never get that chance again. Live, knowing that you'll never get the chance to take that title from me ever again!

Grimmjow: You sure know how to talk a lot of shit when you're hiding behind someone's back!

Grimmjow immediately darted towards Luppi, completely forgetting about (Y/N) the process.

Luppi: Oh, I'm so scared~

(Y/N): Take this seriously, will you. He's coming to kill you. For real this time.

Luppi: Fine...

(Flashback End)

(Y/N): Yeah so he pretty much forgot about the whole "killing me" thing and instead decided he wanted to kill Luppi instead. Pretty convenient if you ask me.

(S/N): Well at least you weaseled your way out of another person coming after your life. Seriously, this is becoming a common occurrence.

(Y/N): Well with the Grimmjow incident dealt with, I should be free from fighting for a while. My problems aside, what about you, dad? Your first day back to work was today, right? What happened to only having a week off?

(F/N): Yeah, they extended my vacation after solving the Fullbring case. The old man was on my ass about how I was relaxing enough.

(S/N): I guess (Y/N) gets that habit from someone.

(Y/N): This isn't about me.

(F/N): *chuckles* Say... I haven't talked about you guys' grandfather that much haven't I?

The three kids at the table look at their father in confusion.

(Y/N): Where's this coming from?

(S/N): Yeah, that was out of nowhere...

(F/N): Well after I helped (Y/N) with his training during the whole Kenpachi business, I met up with Isshin and Ryuken. We had a talk and it made me realize that I haven't really told you guys much about the guy.

(F/N) thought back to the conversation he had with his two friends.

(Flash Back)

(F/N) and Isshin sat on a couch in a very sophisticated living room.

Ryuken: Now can you tell me why you two imbeciles are in my house?

Isshin: It was (F/N)'s suggestion to come here.

(F/N): It's important and it involves the two of you.

Isshin: Hm?

(F/N): Ryuken, what was that poem thingy you mentioned before. You know, about the Quincies.

Ryuken: I'm surprised you remembered. If you decided to come to me in regards to the Kaiser Gesang then that must mean you believe we should start preparing for "his" return.

Isshin immediately took the conversation a lot more seriously.

Isshin: What's this all of a sudden? Did you find out the exact date?

(F/N): Hell no. I don't know a thing about Quincies. I don't understand a single thing those crazy books talk about.

Ryuken: And this is why I refer to you as an imbecile. Not because you lack the understanding, but because you refused to understand.

(F/N): Ignoring your insistence on throwing insults my way, if our timeline of events are lined up correctly., this year would be the exact year when "he" awakenings. At least according to the Kaiser- thingy Ryuken was referring to.

Isshin: You're right... It's been nine years since Auswählen.

Ryuken: I know. I've been preparing for "his" awakening since Auswählen happened.

(F/N): And how were you doing that?

Ryuken: Since you brought it up, I guess I can show you.

(F/N): It almost sounds as if you weren't going to tell us you had something in your back pocket.

Ryuken: It has nothing to do with you, (F/N). Considering you neglected that side of your heritage.

Isshin: What is he talking about (F/N)?

Ryuken: You didn't tell Kurosaki about that man, did you?

(F/N): It never came up.

Isshin: Out of all the people to hide secrets from-

(F/N): I don't want to hear that from the guy who's still hiding his wife's true nature from his son.

Isshin: Striking where it hurts, aren't you... Well, I'm all ears. What's this secret?

(F/N): I'm honestly surprised neither Ryuken nor Masaki told you. But the truth is, my surname isn't some run-of-the-mill name. (L/N) is the name of a Quincy family.

Isshin was in awe at the revelation.

Isshin: H-hey, time out! This is a joke right?

(F/N): No. It's all true. Make no mistake though, I'm not a Quincy myself. Remember, I took the last name from the old man that adopted me. He was the Quincy. I don't have a drop of Quincy blood in my veins.

Ryuken: But I'm sure he was ready to give you his own in his last moments.

Ryuken added to the conversation. (F/N) simply looked off in the distance.

(F/N): The old man was always a weird one. A lot of the things he did were unorthodox. I should've noticed the first time we met. Some old man handling a gang member with ease? The more I look back at that night, the more I realize the old man wasn't normal. Even when he raised me he felt like a mystery. His intellect was among the best of the best. He could read anyone like a book.

(F/N) continued to reminisce.

(F/N): When I got out of line, the old man would get uncharacteristically scary. And boy, did he know how to beat some ass. The moment I got into highschool, he looked me dead in the eyes and said "I don't wanna hear crying from you if you got bullied, so I'll teach you how to defend yourself." Though despite how weird he was, a lot of his weird quirks was what broke me out of my terrible attitude as a young teenager. The only person I knew who could understand what went through that man's mind was my mother. But even she was just a normal human. Either she spent many years learning his weird tendencies or he exposed it to her himself.

Isshin: So when did you find out about his life as a quincy?

(F/N): Shortly after I met you, Masaki and (M/N). I was still pretty fresh out of highschool so I still needed help from my parents from time to time. The first time I visited my dad since that day, he immediately noticed the increase in my spiritual pressure. That was when he came clean about who he really was. To answer Ryuken's question: Yes. He did offer me his own blood to become a Quincy... But I refused. I didn't need his blood to prove that he was my father. And sure as hell wasn't thinking about gaining power during his last breath, so I thought nothing more of it at the time.

Isshin: I guess that makes sense... But what about (M/N). I'm sure your father would have something to say about his daughter in law being a Hollow.

(F/N): No. Quite frankly, he couldn't care less if she was Hollow or human.

Isshin: R-really?

Ryuken: Similar to the Kurosaki family, The (L/N) family had all of its members wiped out. All except for Daichi (L/N), the man who adopted (F/N). The (L/N) family were a Echt Quincy family who excelled at absorbing reishi. So skilled in fact, they were believed to never run out of spiritual energy to use. Other Quincy families attempted to keep the name alive, similar to what the Ishida family attempted to do with Masaki Kurosaki. However, unlike Masaki, Daichi declined to live with another family. Daichi wasn't like normal quincies. He was a rebel disguising his hatred of Quincy traditions as trying to modernize Quincy practices. He believed he could "stir the Quincies in the right direction to repair the relationship between the Quincies and the Shinigamis". Of course, everyone thought he was delusional. Eventually, all of Daichi's practices were considered a mockery of Quincies. The deal was sealed when he married his wife who had no connections to the Quincies whatsoever. What made matters worse was that his wife couldn't have kids. The (L/N) family ended with Daichi, a man who turned a prestigious family into a laughingstock and dragged their name through the mud. In the end, Daichi didn't do what he set out to do. In short, that man was only a Quincy in name. I don't doubt he didn't care that the son he fostered was in love with the very enemy he was born to kill. Most wouldn't call him a true Quincy.

...

...

...

(F/N): I mean if we wanna split hairs, (Y/N) still carries the (L/N) name and his relationship with the Soul Society lines up perfectly with the old man's vision.

Ryuken: Don't act as if your son's actions were driven by pride of being a quincy. He doesn't know his grandfather's lineage so he surely wouldn't be doing it for him. And that's not accounting for the fact that he also doesn't have the blood of a Quincy either. Speaking of which, you ridiculed Kurosaki about keeping secrets from his son but you did the same.

(F/N): I'll tell him about it soon. He has a lot on his plate right now. Once things calm down, I'll tell him about his grandfather.

Ryuken simply sighed as he walked out of the living room.

Isshin: Where are you going?

Ryuken: Why are you still sitting there is the better question. Hurry up and follow me.

(F/N) and Isshin gave each other a confused look before following Ryuken. Ryuken guided the two males to a room that included many apparatuses.

(F/N): A lab?

Ryuken: After Kanae's death, I took her body to this exact room. I performed her autopsy myself and... this is what I found.

Ryuken showed silver that sat on the table.

Isshin: What in the...

(F/N): Silver? What the hell was that doing in her body?

Ryuken: That silver was found clotting blood near the heart. There's no doubt it was created from Auswählen.

Isshin: What do you plan to do with it?

Ryuken: I'm going to weaponize it. I don't know how but I'll find a way. Since you two are here, I'll make use of you. Lend me a hand will you.

(F/N): You could've asked more politely but sure. I don't want my son to keep involving himself in these battles. This is something that's going to blow out of proportion, more so than Aizen. He's done enough as it is. I'd prefer if he could finally start living a normal life again.

Isshin: I'll do what I can too. Let's start putting together ideas.

(End of Flashback)

(F/N) made sure to leave out any information about the Kaiser Gesang as to not alert (Y/N) about the potential new threat. Heck, even (F/N) wasn't sure if the poem was accurate enough. For all he knew, it was just a folk story, but Auswählen was real. Both of his friends were affected by it and he didn't want to take any chances.

But (F/N) felt like he should've at least told his family about what his father was like. After all, they weren't old enough to remember him before he died.

(Y/N): So our grandfather was a Quincy, huh? That's honestly... hard to think about...

(S/N): I'll say.

Calavera: Say that brings up an interesting question...

(Y/N): I think we're thinking of the same possibility.

(F/N): If you're talking about the possibility of being related to your friends Ichigo and Uryu, then I'll let you know that that's not the case. Obviously you wouldn't be blood related whatsoever. But even through my adoption, I couldn't find anything linking the (L/N) family with the Kurosaki's or Ishida's.

Both: Then my question has been answered.

The family continued to talk and enjoy the dinner. For the first time in a while, things were actually normal.

To be continued.

Wasn't expecting a plot twist like this, huh?

Giving in depth lore to a character that's never going to be shown again is actually hilarious in hindsight. But then again, finding out that Uryu decided to beef with not one but two people with a Quincy surname during his reveal is also funny to think about.

Next chapter is the beginning of the TYBW arc.
