A week after Aizen's Trial and the meeting with Yamamoto

(Y/N) was once again in the Soul Society. He had just gotten word that Calavera's Soul should be fusing with her new body at any moment.

Currently, (Y/N) was in the Squad 13 barracks with Rukia, Kiyone and Sentaro.

Rukia: So I wanted to ask, (Y/N). With Calavera having a body of her own, what's going to happen to your body when you become a shinigami? It'll be vulnerable again.

Kiyone: This "Calavera" you're talking about, is it your Gikon?

(Y/N): Mod Soul to be specific.

Sentaro: But those have been discontinued, haven't they?

(Y/N): Some have been lost and recovered. I got my hands on one and here we are. And to answer your question, Rukia, I came up with a work around for that. You see...

(FlashBack) The day Urahara visited (Y/N)

(Y/N) handed Calavera to Wiz, who proceeded to inspect the mod soul once again, much to her dismay. (Y/N) then turned towards Urahara once again.

Urahara: So what's so important that you had to exclude your mod soul out of the conversation?

(Y/N): I don't want to get her hopes up just yet. I'm not even sure we'll even get permission for this.

Urahara: For what exactly?

(Y/N): Well you remember how I was saving money to buy a Gigai specifically for Calavera? Well I was thinking, thanks to my combat pass, I can enter and exit shinigami form at will, but if Calavera gets a body, then I'm back to having a vulnerable body. So I was wondering if it was possible to link my body with a Gigai. That way, if I were to leave my body, the soul inhabiting the gigai, in this case, Calavera, would be able to control my vulnerable body remotely.

Urahara gave it some thought.

(Y/N): Nevermind, it sounds a bit stupid.

Urahara: It might be possible.

(Y/N): Huh?

Urahara: Mod Souls were originally created with the capability to fight Hollows. Besides, Mayuri's lieutenant is proof enough that it's possible.

(Y/N): Captain Mayuri's Lieutenant? You mean Nemu?

Urahara: Correct. Nemu is an artificial soul. I'm not sure when Mayuri completed his research on it but Nemu isn't a normal soul like the rest.

(Y/N): That may explain her emotionless expressions.

Urahara: If she has a lack of emotion then that means she's most likely a Gikon and not a mod soul. I wouldn't put it past Mayuri to break the rules and create a mod soul for his experiment but at the same time, I doubt Mayuri wants to get into any trouble that would hinder his research. Especially if she holds a rank as significant as lieutenant. Never mind that though. What I'm trying to say is, if a Gikon can fuse with a Gigai, there's no reason why a Mod Soul couldn't.

(Y/N): So you're saying that if Nemu can exist as a Shinigami, then she should have combat capabilities, correct? Which means she can generate spiritual energy.

Urahara: Bingo. And that means creating a Gigai that can use a technique that can control another can be produced in some way. It may not be easy but it's possible.

(Flashback End)

(Y/N): So me and Mr. Urahara kinda fleshed out the idea for a bit. And we came up with something.

Rukia: What was it?

(Y/N): Just like how Calavera was able to bring an inanimate object to life, we came up with an idea to give Calavera's body a similar ability. When my soul leaves my body, Calavera will be able to transfer some of her spiritual energy into my body in order to bring it to life again. In a way, she'll be like a puppeteer. Or maybe it would be more appropriate to say she'll be controlling my body remotely. We're not sure how the ability will work until Calavera actually wakes up.

Kiyone: This all sounds a bit complicated.

Sentaro: I agree.

Rukia: I believe I got a grasp of it. Still, it's amazing that something like that is possible. Also it's a bit unorthodox. Sure, the Soul Society created the Mod Souls and Gikon to take control of a body, but the method used in this case is rather unique.

(Y/N): There's also another implication to why we choose this method of controlling the body.

Kiyone: Like how?

(Y/N): For battling.

Sentaro: Huh? With the exception of lieutenant Nemu, no other Gikon has shown any capability to battle.

(Y/N): Well, that's because there aren't. Calavera is a mod soul not a Gikon. Mod Souls were created for the purpose of battling Hollows. When someone consumes a Mod Soul, the Mod Soul enhances the body it inhabits. That's how they combat hollows.

Kiyone: So what you're saying is that Calavera is going to be a superhuman capable of controlling her enemies?

(Y/N): Yep. This way, Calavera would be able to get my body to safety and protect herself at the same time.

Rukia: It's almost as if you have your own sidekick.

(Y/N): Nah, I wouldn't force Calavera to go around fighting Hollows if she doesn't want to. But speaking of Hollows, another idea did come to mind after me and Mr Urahara came up with the whole "body controlling" thing.

Rukia: Hm? What did you come up with?

(Y/N): We thought, "What if we also modify the stuffed animal Calavera was originally in as a weapon".

Rukia could only imagine a comically evil looking doll, terrorizing hollows with an evil smile on its face.

Rukia: That's horrible! That poor stuffed animal.

(Y/N): I'm sure the rabbit won't look as different as you expect... There's one last idea I had... but it's more of a theory than a concrete idea.

Rukia: There's more? You seemed to have planned a lot of this from the start.

(Y/N): I've had months to brainstorm things but I'll keep it to myself for now.

Kiyone: Now I'm curious.

Sentaro: Same here! You can leave us in the dark like that!

Just then, Captain Ukitake arrived at the Barracks.

Ukitake: Now, I'm sure (Y/N) has his reasons.

Kiyone and Sentaro immediately stood up and bowed as Ukitake entered the barracks.

Both: Welcome back Captain!

Rukia: Captain Ukitake, how are you feeling?

Ukitake: I'm feeling fine, thanks for asking. (Y/N), It's good to see you.

(Y/N): You too, Captain.

Ukitake: I must thank you once again, for helping us take down Aizen.

(Y/N):It's no problem. Aizen was a threat to all of us. Of course I'd help.

Ukitake: We appreciate it regardless. What is your plan now that the issue is settled?

(Y/N): Hm? I'll continue being a Substitute Shinigami while I go to school.

Ukitake: I see. I do hope the combat pass that I gave you has been useful.

(Y/N) was a bit confused.

(Y/N): Of course it has.

Ukitake was a bit shocked but a smile appeared on his face.

Ukitake: I see... that's good to hear. By the way, on my way here, I met with Urahara. He was on the lookout for you.

(Y/N): I guess that's my cue. Sorry to cut our conversation short like this, Captain Ukitake.

Ukitake: It's not a problem. It's important right? Please, don't let us stop you.

(Y/N) said his goodbyes as he left to meet up with Urahara, Wiz and Mayuri. As (Y/N) left, Ukitake simply thought to himself.

Ukitake: *thinking* You're smart, (Y/N). I'm sure you'll figure out the true meaning of that combat pass. I have faith you'll pick the right choice.

(Timeskip)

(Y/N) made it to the front of the Research and development Lab where he found Wiz, standing beside Akon, talking. Wiz then noticed (Y/N) and waved.

Wiz: (Y/N), you're just in time.

(Y/N): Is the procedure done?

Wiz: Mhm! Urahara's inside with the grumpy ol' captain.

Akon: Follow us.

(Y/N) followed the two scientists into the lab. As the entered the room, (Y/N) saw Urahara and Mayuri having an argument.

Mayuri: You must've forgotten that this is "my" laboratory. Ownership of this lab was transferred over to me the moment you were banished. Now stop snooping around.

Urahara: Oh come on, I was just killing time until- Oh there you are (Y/N).

Mayuri: You're late (Y/N) (L/N). Take your servant and leave.

"I'm not a servant, you weirdo!"

!!!

(Y/N) recognized that voice. (Y/N) turned around and saw an unfamiliar appearance. Behind him was a girl with long blue hair in a ponytail and purple eyes.



Despite the unfamiliar appearance, (Y/N) knew exactly who it was.

(Y/N): Calavera?

Calavera: The one and only!

(Y/N): So it worked... Thank goodness...

Calavera immediately wrapped (Y/N) in a hug, which (Y/N) returned.

Calavera: Thanks for keeping your promise, buddy.

(Y/N): Wouldn't be much of a friend if I didn't... Besides, you deserve it.

Ahem...

Calavera and (Y/N) turned around and saw Mayuri trying to get their attention.

Mayuri: If you want to have your little reunion, do it outside. And take these two nuisances with you.

Mayuri said, referring to Urahara and Wiz.

Wiz: You're such a party pooper. They were having such a good moment. *sign* Fine, let's go...

Urahara: It was good catching up with you Mayuri.

Mayuri: And please don't return.

Well, despite the abrupt end to what was supposed to be a touching ending, the group would call this a job well done.

It only took like 70+ chapters to finally get Calavera the body she was promised. Also the design used for Calavera is Botan from Yu Yu Hakusho. I've always had this in mind because Botan is a Grim Reaper in her show and thought it would be a fun little reference to put in here.

I felt like I've had very small (but noticable) YYH references in this fic and this one is the most notable.

1. (F/N)'s dad being a detective is a reference to Yusuke's profession of being a spirit detective. He also uses a gun, which Yusuke's signature technique is the Spirit Gun. This also plays into the next point.

2. (Y/N) has always fired Ceros by point at the enemy with the finger pistol pose, just like Yusuke does.

3. I always played the Yu Yu Hakusho opening for Flashback chapters or Slice of Life stuff. This is more like a foreshadow then a reference.

But yeah I'm close to finishing up the slice of life stuff. I have 2 already written and may write maybe two or three more before I head into the Fullbring stuff.
