When (S/N) first saw spirits, she was scared. She couldn't differentiate between a normal person or a ghost. Many of her classmates thought she was crazy and it prevented her from making friends. She was scared to tell her family in fear that they would tell her the same thing.

One day a spirit decided to play a prank on the young (S/N), and of course, she was scared nearly to death. (S/N) ran home crying. (S/N) ignored everyone trying to comfort her. Who would believe her?

She locked herself in her room, not wanting to leave. She felt safe in her room. However, she kept getting a knock on her door. She refused to answer. However, she heard a voice from the other side of the door speak to her.

(Y/N): Hey, did that spirit in the neighborhood scare you?

The sentence caught her off guard, she never told her brother about her ability to see ghosts. Ever since that interaction, (S/N) opened up about her ability to see ghosts to the rest of her family. (Y/N) even taught her how to tell the difference between real people and humans. (S/N) was still a bit scared of ghosts but she felt more confident about her abilities and she felt a lot less distant from her classmates.

Even in the present day as a teenager, (S/N) always heads home early after school to prevent running into any ghost during the night time. However, today was different. (S/N) stayed back to help out a friend with a school project and lost track of time and now she's running back home with full speed. However, on her way back home she saw something she's never seen before.

(S/N): What in the world is that?

Demon-like beings crawling out of the skies and flying around. It looked like something out of a horror movie. (S/N) felt her heart racing and she started to panic.

She didn't know what those things were, because they weren't spirits in her eyes.

Calavera's POV

(Y/N) left Calavera one job and she was gonna make sure she completed it.

"Make sure (S/N) is protected at all costs. (F/N) is too far away."

While Calavera was doing that, (Y/N) would head to the school to clear out the hollows there. (Y/N) said he still felt Orihime and Tatsuki's spiritual energy present there. (Y/N) also felt Chad and Ichigo's sister, Karin, around the same area so he felt as though if they were to group together, they'd be able to handle themselves. Chad has proven that he can physically touch hollows. With Karin's ability to see ghosts, they could theoretically survive long enough for (Y/N) to handle the situation at school and make his way to them.

When Calavera came into view with (S/N), she saw that the girl was being pursued by 3 hollows. Calavera signed in relief knowing that it was only low level Hollows, and took out all 3 with ease.

Thanks to (Y/N)'s training, (Y/N)'s human body was able to now take on hollows. (Y/N), just like Ichigo and Chad, was starting to show supernatural strength in human form.

(S/N) was shocked. From her perspective, her brother just took out multiple demons in seconds. And with his bare hands no less.

(S/N): (Y- (Y/N) what are you doing here? How did you do that?

Calavera being in (Y/N)'s body, had to do her best (Y/N) impression.

Calavera: We don't have time to talk, come on I know somewhere we can go to be safe.

Calavera took (S/N)'s hand and booked it to Urahara's shop.

(Y/N) POV

It took (Y/N) much longer than he wanted to reach the school. Every step was met with a Hollow encounter and quite frankly, it was pissing him off.

(Y/N) got to the school and was horrified by the sight. The students looked like Zombies and even saw Tatsuki and her friend Chizuru with very bad wounds, the only one still holding on was Orihime. Towering above them was a Hollow with tentacles.

(Y/N) the first priority was to knock out all the zombified students and heal Tatsuki and Chizuru.

(Y/N) blitzed onto the school campus in front of Orihime.

Orihime: (Y/N)?

(Y/N): You can see me?

Orihime: Was I not allowed to?

(Y/N): No that's not- Listen it's not important! Orihime, you have to leave! I can save Tatsuki and Chizuru but your life is in danger here.

Before fighting the hollow, (Y/N) had to get Tatsuki and Chizuru out of the horde of zombies and find a secure place for them. (Y/N) also had to make sure not to kill any of the students so he had to use non lethal force.

(Y/N) kept his zanpakuto in the sheath and fought with his bare hands.

Orihime watched in awe as her normally kind hearted friend fought with ferocity, all to keep her and her friends alive. Orihime didn't want to be the reason she lost all of her friends. She reminisced on how Tatsuki was one of the only people who treated her kindly, and even introduced her to the friends she has now.

Orihime at that moment, started overflowing with energy. Her hairpin broke apart symmetrically and darted towards the hollow, dealing significant damage.

Orihime: Tatsuki, this time, I'll protect you. And (Y/N). Thank you.

Hollow: Impossible!

Orihime: Tatsuki said to you, you picked a fight with the wrong person. That's not quite right. What she should have said was, you picked the wrong person to hurt. Anyone who tries to hurt Tatsuki will have to answer to me!

(Y/N) wasn't sure what kind of power Orihime used, but used the opening she made to grab Tatsuki and Chizuru in both arms and Shunpo both in the direction where Orihime was standing.

(Y/N): Holy crap, Orihime you're definitely going to make this fight much easier.

Orihime: I'm still a bit confused on what's going on, but if you think we can win, Please help me!

(Y/N): You never needed to ask. I came here to solve the issue.

(Y/N) then saw Orihime's hairpin break apart again, turning into little fairy-like beings. It seemed she was able to communicate with them. Were they coaching her on how to use their powers?

Just then, the hollow, now recovered from Orihime's initial attack, came heading straight for the 2 school students.

Orihime: (Y/N) please stand back!

Orihime seemed to have a last second plan and (Y/N) decided to take a step back.

Orihime: I REJECT!

Orihime then created a triangular shield that repelled the hollow's attack.

Orihime then turned towards Tatsuki and used the command again.

Orihime: I REJECT!

In a matter of seconds, Tatsuki was healed. (Y/N) was stunned. She not only had a defensive ability but a healing ability too, and it looked way more effective than yours.

Speaking of healing, you used this opportunity to heal Chizuru with Kaidou while the hollow was down.

(Y/N): The good news is that Tatsuki and Chizuru will live. We don't have to worry about them being in any danger.

Orihime: Thank goodness.

(Y/N): I'll charge in, my attacks are all close range. You can support me with long range attacks and defend Tatsuki and Chizuru if any attacks make it past me, alright?

Orihime: Right!

(Y/N) dashed in the direction of the hollow, reflecting any attacks that were thrown at him with his zanpakuto. (Y/N) closed the distance and went for a downward slash with his sword, getting a deep cut into the hollow.

Orihime saw the devastating attack (Y/N) landed on the Hollow and used this chance to launch an attack of her own.

Orihime: Koten Zanshun! REJECT!

One of Orihime's Fairy companions was sent flying at an alarming rate, ripping through the hollow's head and destroying it.

(Y/N) was flabbergasted. He wasn't expecting her attack to be so powerful. Thankfully enough she was able to take out the Hollow with ease. However it seemed the attack took everything out of Orihime and she immediately passed out. (Y/N) was fortunately quick enough to catch her, stopping her from hitting the floor.

???: *whistle* That sure was a show.

(Y/N): Huh?

Turning around, (Y/N) saw Urahara, with Tessai following right behind with Chad on his back. You signed in relief knowing that Chad was still alive.

(Y/N): Thank Goodness you're here. Where's Calavera? I told her to meet up with you once she found my sister

Urahara: Don't worry, Calavara and your sister are safe and sound. They're at the shop with Ururu and Jinta so they have the best protection.

(Y/N): Thanks. Guess I have a lot of explaining to do to (S/N) once this is all over.

Urahara: You mean never told her about your Shinigami job?

(Y/N): Nah, I didn't feel comfortable telling her that I was putting my life on the line slaying monsters. I mean, there was a possibility she could've seen me at any point, but I figured I'd just tell her then if that was the case.

Urahara: Yeah well she definitely was terrified when she came into the store. Especially figuring out that her own brother's soul wasn't even present in his own body.

(Y/N): So you told her that much? *sign* Well I doubt Calavera would've kept up an "(Y/N)" act for too long. Anyway I'll continue trying to get the situation under control, it seems you have more people to take to the shop.

Urahara: Don't worry your friends are in great hands.

(Y/N): Never doubted that was the case.

And with that (Y/N) took off.

(Timeskip)

Two grueling hours of slaying hollows really didn't make (Y/N) feel better about the situation. He was gonna make sure he gave Uryu a knockout of a lifetime when he was done with the hollow fighting. Just when (Y/N) thought things couldn't get worse, they did. (Y/N) looked to the sky and saw a huge ripple. Out of the ripple were Hollows, all gathering towards it. That goofball Uryu, look at what he caused.

Speaking of Uryu, he was able to sense him and Ichigo alongside Rukia and Kon in the area and decided to see what idiocy they were up to. Surely by now, they came to realise how dumb this competition was. (Y/N), as he approached the two, started to hear their conversation.

Ichigo: To you, this is just a contest to see which of us can kill the most Hollows, but I'm not interested in playing your game. Fight me! If you're so sure that Quincys are superior to Soul Reapers, then why don't you prove it right now. Or are you too afraid?

(Y/N): We have more pressing matters you idiot! Besides, once this whole fiasco is over, I'm first in line to kick Uryu's ass.

Ichigo: (Y/N)? What are you doing here?

(Y/N): I came to check on you after securing the safety of our family and friends.

Ichigo: I can sense the passive aggression in your voice. And quite frankly it doesn't suit you. I liked it better when you were the nice guy.

(Y/N): Can you blame me? This could've been avoided if you didn't fold after a few insults from four eyes over there. Besides, matters are getting worse. Look.

(Y/N) pointed towards the rippled sky.

Ichigo: What the hell? The Hollows. They're gathering.

Uryu then took off towards the Hollow's gathering place.

Ichigo: Where are you going? There are too many of 'em.

Uryu: Now who's afraid, Ichigo?

Ichigo: Huh?

Uryu: If you don't have the guts, stay back here and watch. I told you before, I am the winner!

(Y/N) was still in awe that he was still treating this as a competition.

(Y/N): I don't think he's egotistical anymore. I just think he's plain stupid. Top scorer in the class or not, he's completely lacking awareness of the situation at hand.

Uryu: Down here, filthy Hollows! I, Uryu Ishida, the last of the Quincys, challenge you!

Ichigo: Is he really the last one?

Rukia: It was thought they all became extinct 200 years ago. Well, not exactly. They were systematically killed by the Shinigamis. As you can imagine, it was a very difficult and painful decision for the Shinigamis. But in the end, it became necessary to destroy the Quincys because it was the only way to prevent the destruction of this world.

Rukia gave a quick rundown on the history of the Quincies and Shinigamis.

Hearing the story, Ichigo took off behind Uryu. (Y/N) groaned in annoyance before taking off following behind the two.

(Y/N): Make sure you stay safe, Rukia. You too Kon. We'll have this situation cleaned up in no time.

(Y/N) screamed from a distance and waved. (Y/N) just had to come to terms with the fact that Ichigo and Uryu were just idiots and he would have to be there to make sure they didn't screw things up.

As (Y/N) caught up, we witnessed the sight of both Ichigo and Uryu, standing side by side, slaying any hollow that crossed their paths. Whatever conversation they had after they left must have led to them making a temporary truce.

(Y/N) jumped in to help. The issue was the numbers of the Hollows didn't seem to stop.

(Y/N): Hollows sure are persistent.

Ichigo: What? Need a break?

Uryu: We could handle this ourselves.

(Y/N): You two? Please, I can handle them myself, no problem.

Ichigo: Now look who's getting competitive.

(Y/N): I guess the stupidity is starting to rub off on me.

https://youtu.be/KcRJqw4Gei0

Just then the sky darkened and The ripple in the sky was torn wide open by the biggest Hollow either Shinigami or Quincy has ever seen.

(Y/N): Huh? So how do we reach that thing?

Ichigo: That's not your everyday garden variety Hollow.

Uryu: That little bit of bait I used can't possibly have drawn this.

(Y/N): Maybe not, but it's here.

Just then, a sound reminiscent of a gatling gun could be heard as it Shredded through hundreds of hollows in a matter of seconds.

You looked towards the sound and saw Ururu holding a multi-barreled shoulder cannon wrapped in cloth.

Ururu: H-Hello:

(Y/N): I am so glad she never used that thing in training, I'd be dead...

Just then the rest of the Urahara shop employees could be seen arriving.

Urahara: I'm sorry we're so late. I thought you three might need a little assistance.

Ichigo: Mr. Hat and Clogs?

Urahara: And if you don't mind me making a suggestion, why don't my crew and I take care of these small fries for you, while you go concentrate on that big guy?

(Y/N): We'll take you up on that offer.

Uryu: That thing is too big for any of our weapons.

Ichigo:Ha, just because it's overfed doesn't change anything. We're just gonna have to chop a little more.

Uryu: Chop?

Ichigo: Yep, and the bigger they are, the harder they fall. Come on. Together, we'll take that ugly sucker down.

Before the trio could approach the Huge hollow, Rukia came in screaming.

Rukia: Ichigo, (Y/N)! Stop! You two aren't enough to go up against Menos Grande.

Both: Huh?

Rukia: Urahara, are you trying to get those two killed out there?

Urahara: Of course not. Just watch. There is a method to my madness.

Ichigo and Uryu try throwing out individual attacks at the Menos but the Menos Grande was unaffected. (Y/N) was thinking to himself of how he could potentially reach the Hollow.

(Y/N): *thinking* According to Urahara and Yoruichi, there is a way for Shinigami's to fly, however I'm not sure how it works. I was able to learn Shunpo in a desperation attempt but can the same be done with flying? There's also the fact that I have no long range Kido spells. I've only learned Kaido and Bakudo techniques so far. Well, what if I apply what I've learned from them and tweak it to use a Hado spell?

(Y/N) started to concentrate, trying to mold spiritual energy outward in his hand. He tried to make it as condense as possible.

(Y/N): Okay... I created this ball of spiritual energy. Now how do I even shoot this thing?

(Y/N) thought back to his fight alongside Orihime. The words "reject" stuck out to him.

(Y/N): The words reject means to push outwards doesn't it. So if I push it outwards maybe I can shoot it.

(Y/N) decided to put his theory to the test. (Y/N) aimed his attack towards the Menos Grande and allowed the spiritual energy in his hand to freely be released. In that moment, (Y/N) let out a massive blast from his hand. It felt destructive yet unstable. (Y/N) was having trouble controlling the trajectory of his own attack, however he was lucky enough to still hit his target.

Unfortunately (Y/N) missed the Hollow's head, however he did an enormous amount of damage to it. (Y/N) looked to his right and saw Uryu and Ichigo planning an attack of their own.

(Y/N), in an instant, felt a wave of exhaustion suddenly hit him. The long hours of fighting and a massive attack like he just launched was the last of his energy.

(Y/N): Ichigo. Uryu. Please finish the job.

And with that (Y/N) passed out. And just as (Y/N) asked, Ichigo and Uryu finished the job. Ichigo was able to reflect an energy blast from the Menos Grande and forced it to leave. The rest of the hollows follow suit.

In the midst of everyone celebrating, both Tessai and Urahara came to a revelation.

Tessai: Did you notice it, Urahara.

Urahara: Yeah I noticed it. That attack (Y/N) used was actually the same one the Menos Grande used seconds later on Ichigo. (Y/N) just used a Cero. A Hollow technique.

To be continued.

With the competition wrapped up, you know what that means. One more chapter until the Subsititue Shinigami arc is over.

At this point in the fic, I'm almost done writing the entire Soul Society arc. Since in canon, the group did stay an extra week after the conflict ended, I may write 2-3 chapters based on that time just to flush more stuff out before moving on.

I'm also thinking of making an original mini arc that's maybe 2-3 chapters long before I move onto the Huecho Mundo arc. I still don't know if I'll commit to the idea because I honestly don't know what I'll write for it but I'll think more about it as time goes on.
