"Oh god it's all over." The last words of Molt's father before he was killed.
Falmart. Tavern in Italica. December 29th. 665 imperial time.
Grey didn't know if telling such a story to one of the men in green would be tolerated by the high ups. He was telling the story of the man who brought wrath and ruin to the empire but he went ahead.
"We're this man was born, came from, and his exact age was unknown but we all know the stories. He was an old man maybe in his 60s which is a rare sight to see only senators and maybe the emperor live that long but as some legends saw he just appeared. Just one day he came into existence as he was." Grey said at the beginning .
"Just appearing out of nowhere sounds impossible, he must have come from somewhere." Said Itami not fully believing this story much to Gray's disappointment. Lelei the young wizard however stayed quiet and listened. Pina seemed rather interested in the topic but Gray had a feeling it was to find out how her grandfather died rather than the actual story itself.
"So where did I leave off? Ah yes. In all honesty he humiliated the empire so badly that your father Molt tried to wipe all records of him so sadly his name is only known to the few survivors of his slave rebellion and Arctic tribe who are in hiding. But his weapons are well documented. His weapons had never been seen before on the face of Falmart; some said he was a smart man, an artificer of sorts who made them by himself. Others say that he was given to him by some unknown god." He began.
"But this man was the greatest foe the empire has faced. He was a man who didn't flinch when he fought the gods. Legends say that when the gods came to fight him he threw the first strike not the gods." Gray said. Hamilton shot him a look of disbelief but he knew by the look of horror on his father's face when he had first told gray this tale that he was telling the truth.
Gray was no liar nor was his father so he didn't care if some didn't believe the tale. Those who didn't believe it were simply arrogant fools who thought the empire couldn't be defeated.
"This man has an eye that some folks claim shines red with some strange beam, his left hand isn't a hand but a metallic claw that can rip off a trolls leg in one snap, he may be a skinny one but he had a sword that is said to be so heavy that only the gods can carry it. The sword had many spikes on it that began to move every time he was in combat. I reckon none of you or me could carry his sword. It was the same sword he used to kill Sol Augustus the 4th Molts father." Gray said but Itami cut him off before he could continue.
"This sounds frankly ridicules." He said laughing. "It's wise not to say bad about a Saderan legend." Said Lelei silently. "Please continue." Lelei said afterwards.
"Our first real reports of him came from a slave uprising in one of the many gold mines in our empire. Reports vary but some saw he just went into the mines bringing ruin and terror to the gods and speaking of some greater god. A God who was both god and man and of a god who sought unity in man and condemned slavery. This of course led to a new religion forming." He said.
"He was a preacher of sorts in a way but he got the slaves to join him in a great crusade. It started off small but one by one slave camps fell to the man and his growing army. He converted more men to this god that he worshiped. The emperor had to send an entire legion to try to put it down but they were slaughtered."
"No man of that doomed legion sent to stop him was spared. He and his growing slave army brought ruin to the countryside. 30% of the empire's wheat fields in our western provinces were burned. The emperors then decided to take action himself as this had gone for a year and had force him to divert resources from defeating the Arctic tribe."
"He led his force of 100,000 men against the man's force of 20,000. The man had been working on a new capital city which he called Armageddon for his new society and had sent diplomats to the Arctic tribe to form an alliance against the empire. So the emperor comes to siege this new capital and oh boy does the man make the emperor's army pay.
"They defend the city tooth and nail for 5 weeks before the man sallies forth with his slave army out of the city and duels with the emperor himself. The emperor was confident that he could win. He was on a horse and this one was on foot but oh did he underestimate this man with just one swing of that sword of his the man decapitated the king's horse and shredded his stomach. As the emperor lay dying he screamed "oh god it's all over." Believing his empire was now doomed before he was killed. The imperial army broke after that and ran for their lives."
"For the next 3 years the man brought wrath and ruin to the empire. The Arctic tribe swore loyalty to him after he defeated their chief in a duel and they were at the gates of Sadera itself when the gods came down to fight him. Instead of sending out his soldiers to surely die against the Gods, legends say he decided to duel them on his own, calling them false gods and claiming that the true god was this emperor of mankind."
"He then fought Hardly and Emory the god of war himself and decapitated Emory. Emory being a god couldn't be killed and simply regrew his head before he struck him down with Hardly. With the man dead the slaves retreated and the arctic tribe soon collapsed but his space army wasn't done yet. They still fought on for another 2 years forcing Hardly to summon armies of the damned to help the demoralized imperial legions."
"They then besieged the city of Armageddon itself again. For a full 2 years it fought off the legions of the damned and the empire's legions before the gods used their powers to sink the city into the ground creating a massive crater that still exists to this day. This did nothing more than inspire more resistance movements with the rallying cry being the city broke before the defenders did.
"That is the legend of the great Arctic war and of this man that brought Sadera to its knees had it not been for the gods saving us." Gray said, finishing the tale.
"That was surely something. It's a legend right." Said Itami. "I doubt it is." Said the leader of the GOC Clark who was leaning on the tavern wall. "How did you get in here without us noticing?" Asked Itami, who had briefly been scared by him.
"You all were too captivated by the tale for you to see or hear me join in. I believe it. I've seen my fair share of unbelievable shit." Clark said. "Doubt it. I bet you are all talk no bite. I've met your conniving kind before. I doubt you could even back up your claims." Said Kuribayashi Jumping into the conversation in her typical brazen manner.
"Please don't go picking fights with our allies Sergeant." Said Itami sighing.
"They aren't our allies and I know this bastard has something planned," she said, raising a finger at Clark who looked unfazed and amused.
"We wouldn't want to get into fights dear." Said Clark as he took out a cigarette and smoked. His eyepatch stood out. Gray knew that the leader of the men in blue was definitely a fighter; his eyepatch proved that. "Oh of course you don't I could easily beat your ass." She said confidently.
Gray knew deep down that something bad was about to happen.
Falmart. Tavern in Italica. December 29th. 1 AEE.
I watched as the hit headed woman named Kuribayashi got more and more agitated. Didn't surprise me. Many wouldn't believe what me and my people had gone through which is why I had made sure not to tell the JSDF of where me and my fellow survivors came from yet.
Kuribayashi was seemingly just picking fights because she could and believed that was a typical politician. I of course planned on proving her wrong. I had wisely made sure to get info on every member of the JSDF recon team through having small chat with each and every one of them.
Kuribayashi based on what I'd had gotten out of members of the recon team would date men and challenge them to spar with her and if she beat them just once she'd dump them (this is actually cannon.)
This was a massive sign to him that she was the asshole of the recon team and how are you supposed to have a love life if you go around beating up your dates. She was a massive dick in short terms. I wouldn't even call her nature tomboyish as some liked to call it.
I knew the difference between tomboyish and cruelty.
"I suggest you stop being a massive dick dear and kindly fuck off." I said coldly, changing my attitude in a heartbeat. "Why you?" She threw a punch at me and I swiftly dodge it and elbowed her face sending her down on the ground. "Sloppy."
I said coldly as Itami and Rory who had entered looked at me in Awe. "Fuck you." She said coughing blood. I then summarily kicked her head sending her flying as she went out cold. This is what being in the GOC gets you. She seems to really just brute force it and lacks technique.
"Don't worry Itami, your Sergeants dumbass attacking me won't be seen as an act of war." I said leaving.
All I could think was fuck the JSDF. I had met all their soldiers on an individual level and all were massive assholes, horny or somewhere in-between. I also spotted a certain Delilah who somehow found herself working as a maid in Italica.
She recognized me and I recognized her. We both didn't start trying to kill each-other because it would cause a scene and the JSDF were buying her bullshit about her people being oppressed, and I didn't want to jump into another war by creating an incident.
Either way a meeting was planned between me and the leader of the JSDF on January 14th. This was good since it bought me all the time in the world to add the finishing touches to the trap Zorzal and his army were walking into.
All I needed to do was crush the prince's army one final time and capture him so I could further my position of strength in the negotiations with the JSDF and those pigs from the empire.
Author's note: the old imperial legend told in the story I plan on turning into a fanfic so expect another crossover gate story in the future also sorry for the short chapter I'll make a longer one next time I post.
