New Portland had been named after the 3 Portland's (Portals in Portland island, Portland City, and the town of Portland that lead to a Utopia called Portland. This is the base of the UIU and was Americas and the UIUs last stand location during 5000. Man this was a massive lore dump.)

Jim was a simple man as one would describe him. He had been a farmer before the day the world turned upside down and humanity was ok on the brink of annihilation. He had been to hell and back.

During the siege of Ganzir 49 MTF soldiers had met their ends at the barrel of his trusty shotgun. Now he would use it again. Some rabbit people had attacked one of them, members of the UNGOC. It ain't gonna slide with him.

Jim watched as the leader of the UNGOC which had gone on a hunting trip tried with them friends of his come back bruised and bloodied and missing an eye. He ranted about being attacked by Rabbit ladies. One might call him crazy but they'd seen crazy at Ganzir so no one was taking any chances. Several men dragged him towards the canteen to try to patch him.

It had become clear to Jim that these rabbit people had been the instigators. He went to his small cabin he had made and took out old Bess( His shotgun.)

New Portland had around 125 people living in it with 23 of these being men the rest women and children. Jim knew he had to take action in this atmosphere of confusion and indecision. He quickly found his friends in the small crowd that had developed around the Canteen.

"Oy. Jameson, Dixie, Jesse." He called out to them. "We were wondering where you were. We thought you had disappeared." Joked Dixie, a man from Alabama. He had a white beard and had "weight issues." "Them rabbit folk the GOC leader was talking about might attack the town. We can't allow them to steal our freedom." Jim said. "They ain't gonna." Said Jameson stepping up with his colt revolver in his hand and sporting a cowboy hat.

"We gonna use the second amendment if those damn rabbits try anything." Joked Jesse pulling out his hunting shotgun. "I got a tractor I just finished building with the help of them replicators. Suppose we use that as a tank if them rabbits attack." Jim said, smirking as he stroked his black beard.

"I like where this is going." Said Dixie smiling. "Boutta teach them rabbits not to mess with us." Said Jesse loading his shotgun. "So lead us to the tractor my friend." Said Jameson.

"Will do." Said Jim.

Delilah gathered her warriors into a nice litter clearing near the settlement. She had gathered around 400 hundred warriors from nearby villages. While they had certainly lost some good warriors when ambushing that small hunting party morale was high they had killed 4 newcomer's at the cost of 6 of their own. Now it was time to continue the attack. The settlement that was their target had no walls.

How stupid of the newcomers to not even add defense to their settlements. It was like they were pacifist or something.

The plan was simple. 250 of her warriors would follow her and sack the settlement while the remaining 150 would attack a small outpost that they had seen the newcomers building near the mouth of the valley. She hoped to contain the newcomers in the valley by burning their settlements.

Queen Tyuule didn't know in particular of her secret war against the newcomers yet. She kept a careful watch on the settlement. The civilians had begun to set up makeshift barricades around some of the buildings; some carried those black rods, others carried knives and pans.

She couldn't allow them to finish setting up proper defenses. She signaled the plan to go ahead the 150 warriors broke off to head to the outpost while she lead her 250 warriors on the attack. Her archers fired down at the newcomers from the trees catching them off guard again. She saw woman dragging 2 injured men indoors. "For our people for the queen." Delilah yelled.this cry was echoed among her warriors and they charged out.

I had gotten up and had leaned on the barricades. My right eye had a bloodied bandage on it. I kept a good eye on the woods and then arrows began to rain down from the trees. "Get to fucking cover." I barked as I heard two screams as two men were hit and dragged away from the battlefield. "Are these rabbits fucking Vietnamese. They're in the trees." Yelled, one of the men near me.

We then heard a cry in an unknown language and hundreds of rabbits ran out of the woods towards us. "Light those fuckers up." I barked. I aimed my hunting rifle and took potshots as men around me fire shotguns, hunting rifles, and pistols. "Haha die bitch." Yelled a man named Jim as he bashed a rabbit's head clean off with his shotgun.

"Bring up the tractor boys." He yelled again and I saw the tractor the community had been building for farming come out of the shed and with 3 men I later learned names were Jesse, Dixie, and Jameson. Jameson hung on the side of the tractors and fired away with his revolver while Jesse drove and Dixie fired away with his shotguns.

The tractor briefly broke the attackers as they ran in fear but the chestnut haired rabbit, which I assumed was their leader, directed arrow fire at the tractors which were running over some rabbits.

"Ear fucking lead bitches." Said Jameson Laughing like a madman as he fire away. Me and the others assist the tractors and sniper some archers from the trees. "We got some behind us." Yelled Jim I saw several rabbits had gone around and were trying to attack the back of the settlement. I killed two before one rushed me but was punched in the face by a man who grabbed her and beat her to death.

The tractor was taking heavy arrow fire; it had several arrows stuck in its glass window. "Agh fuck im hit." Yelled Dixie as he got an arrow to the shoulder. "Just hold on we need to break them rabbits." Yelled Jesse I ran up to a boy he liked around 17. "Go to a new paradise and tell them we are under attack, we need backup" I said as I brought a farm horse to him. The boy obeyed and it wasn't like those movie scenes where one was told to bring a message to someone as a battle happens and he objects. It was a matter of life or death and the boy obeyed and rode out through the woods. I picked off any rabbits trying to get to him.

On the west of the town I saw a bad sight. The west part of the town had several trees which hadn't been cleared out yet and the bunnies took full advantage of that and had used them as cover to storm or barricades there. I rushed over there as a melee ensued. Several of the women had joined it and fought the rabbits with pots, pans, and knives. I took out my combat knife and joined in. I stabbed an unsuspecting rabbit in the neck, killing her. I was then set upon by 2 others with swords.

While I was having success in the melee I couldn't see the same for the other. Most of the defenders were civilians with a couple of guards from the insurgency and GOC spread out among them. They lacked training and I watched as 3 were cut down by one rabbit girl. I quickly took her out with a good shot from my pistol. Another rabbit attempted to attack me but I head butted her giving her a broken nose. She screeched in pain before I put her down.

Then I saw it. The rabbits began to fire a couple of fire arrows at the town buildings slowly caught fire as some of us defending broke off to try to put them out. Two cabins had already caught fire and were beyond saving but the small school built had been successfully saved with the children hiding inside being carried out by one of our guys.

In terms of losses so far we had suffered possibly 5 dead and 7 wounded. The rabbits broke off their attack as night began to fall. We looked dazed. Several rabbit corpses laid around the town and outside it. Several of the women who hadn't been in the fight went out to look for their husbands.

I saw Dixie being helped off the tractors and brought to the canteen to bandage his wounded shoulder. "We sure gave them rabbits hell." Jesse joked. "We sure did." I said I was exhausted. "Think they'll be back." Asked Jim. "As hell if I know." Said Jameson.

"You boys were absolute mad lads with what you pull with the tractor." I said proudly to them. "You deserve metals." I continued. I was very impressed with them turning the tractor into a mini tank. "Nah just doing what we could to protect humanity once more." Said Jesse humbly. "The world seems to hate us huh." I joked grimly. "It really does. But we are alive somehow still. We might as well be an invincible race just due how much we've faced yet we always survive somehow." Said Jim in his southern accent.

"Suppose that's true. So any of you want to take guard duty with me tonight." I asked. "Sir with all due respect you've been through enough some rest." Said Jesse. "Common do I look that bad." I said grumbling. "You look like you got kicked by a horse." Said Jameson. "Jesus." I said in a whisper. "Fine I'll take a break but none of you better slack off on guard duty" I said. "You can trust us we won't." Said Jesse.

"Good." I said. I walked into the canteen. It was being used as a medical center. So far 12 of us had gotten wounded. Most came from arrows but some were pretty badly cut up from the melee at the western end of the town. My men and some insurgents to my suprised saluted as I entered. "At ease Gentlemen." I said. "Do any of you have an idea of when backup will arrive." I asked my men.

A young man with freckles who was armed with an assault rifle walked up. Assault rifles were rare in this town since most of us had just brought hunting rifles and had left our assault and anomalous guns back at Paradise due to the fact we never expected this mess to go down and expected to just hunt and help build the settlement. "Based on what we know we can expect backup by next morning if the boy you sent out makes it sir." The freckled man said. "I know he will make it. He has too." I said coughing.

I walked up to my room after more small talk with my men. I collapsed on the bed. It was a painful and exhausting day. I was hunting with my friend then saw them all die. Then I reached Portland after a narrow escape and the loss of an eye, only for the rabbits to follow me and attack the town. Did life hate me or something?

I should have tried to get a girlfriend during the siege of Ganzir or at least when we escaped Ganzir. The emotional support would have been appreciated.

The assault had gone badly. The newcomers fought them off and did what she didn't expect them to do. It was common sense not to engage one of the end kind in melee. She was stronger and more agile and faster than the average adult human male.

Yet men, women, and even children had joined in to plug the breach her warriors had created in the western portion of the town and had fought them. The same blue helmet man she had hunted down in the woods was there too. Like in the forest he fought like a savage and overpowered 2 of her warriors. Another human had somehow beaten one of her warriors to death with his bare fist.

Did these people have Emory on their side? She licked her wounds and looked at her warriors tending their fellow wounded. They had lost 23 warriors in the assault and had 30 wounded. They had come close to killing one of those newcomers on those blasted horseless carriage of theirs.

"Delilah. We have lost too many of our warriors we should pull-" before one her warriors could say those words she cut her off. "No. We made the mistake of attacking in day. We can see in the dark, they can't. It was my fault for ordering the attack in the day but I can make up for that by leading us on a night raid. It may not be a new moon but it's close to one so we should have some cover." Delilah spoke. "We have entered a point of no return. We either take this settlement or die like heroes trying." She said passionately.

Her warrior quickly regained their confidence after this short but charismatic speech. "Let's give these newcomers a new meaning of terror." She spoke. Her warriors eagerly followed her.

They snuck carefully towards the edge of the town. She made a gesture and one of the guards that was keeping an eye out was killed by an arrow to the head. They then got behind a large house. She could hear chatter from inside. "Bring the torch and make it quick. The rest of you kill off the other guards." She whispered her warriors followed and the one carrying an unlit torch lit it and threw it on the roof of the housing to slowly start burning.

Then she heard several bangs. One of her warriors fell down dead. She heard yell and saw a man armed with one of those rods fire down at them from the second floor of the house. Delihah barely got out of the way before she fired once more and kill another warrior. "Forget stealth attack." She barked. An arrow went through the man's skull and he slumped dead. Soon enough her warriors were attacking in full force.

I had the first peaceful night of sleep that I have had in weeks and it was ruined when I woke up. "Attack! we are under attack." I crash down on the floor. I quickly got my helmet that still had a dent in it. I grabbed my rifle and ran downstairs. Men rushing out teens were being given spare hunting rifles. Everyone had sprung into action. I then smelled smoke. "Shit they lit the roof on fire. Get out of the canteen!" I yelled as me and my men began to help civilians out of the

"Bloody hell these rabbits don't know when to quit." Said one of my men as he carried 2 children out of the canteen as the fire on the roof got worse. Outside was worst. The guards had gotten overrun quickly and had been killed. Jesse and Jameson somehow had survived and stood on a wagon fire away at the rabbits as they closed in on them.

"It's a good fucking day to die." Said Jesse rifle butting a rabbit as she tried to get close to him. "Haha it is." Said Jameson shooting another rabbit. I say Jameson got an arrow to the leg but he kept fighting. I fired some shots to help the surrounded duo but Jesse soon had an arrow in his neck.

The two though surrounded and now out of ammo fought like beast swinging their hunting rifles like clubs at the advancing rabbits. I heard my men and the Civs yelling insults at the rabbits as we shot at them in a fighting retreat. Jameson and Jesse were behind saving at this point. Jameson collapsed due to blood loss from his wound in his neck and Jesse had an arrow in his leg and back. "Get the fuck away from him." he yelled as several rabbits tried to kill off a dying Jameson. He clubbed them until his rifle broke and then took out his Bowie knife and slashed at several trying to approach him.

The rabbits, learning how dangerous he was at close quarters riddled his body with arrows. I saw Jesse look on at the void as he had 10 arrows impaled in his body. "I guess this is how I die huh." He said before falling off the wagon dead.

I ran towards the school and didn't look back. This felt like those tales from the Wild West movies when the Native Americans would raid settlements and the survivors were forced into one of the houses or try to fight them off but with female rabbit people cutting our guys down.

Jim was blowing off the heads of the attackers with his shotgun as he covered us as I rushed into the school with several others.

I saw a teen maybe around just 13 get cut down by arrows right in front of me before her could reach the school. He wasn't even armed he was kill right then and there in cold blood. I could see the utter terror in his now lifeless body. It reminded me too much of Ganzir.

So this is it. This where we are going to fucking die huh. I thought. The rabbits began to burn the other buildings down. Me and some others took potshots at the rabbits burning down the houses. This once peaceful settlement had been turned into a graveyard. We had tried and failed to stop them and it ate at all of us.

The chestnut haired rabbit was the one responsible for all of this. He would get his revenge. On that day he swore she would die by his hand for the suffering she had brought to his men, his friends, and to the Civs in this peaceful settlement.

The rabbits began to withdraw. It seems they decided not to launch a final assault on the school. It would probably be too costly for them and they had decided against it.

After 3 hours I heard some rumbling and Saw an Abrams battle tank roll up along with a van full of insurgents. Several of my soldiers were with them too. I stepped out of the school first and was saluted by my men and the insurgents. What happened next went by like a blur.

I explained what happened and I helped bury the dead. We had lost 37 men and women in the defense and worst of all 11 children 18-10 had died in the battle. My heart with grief was sour. I said soem prayers for those gallant men, women, and children who had died in the battle.

The rabbits had lost 92 of their own in the battle. We saw bloodied trails of where they had dragged their wounded to. What followed next was me giving the orders to fire for our 4 gun salute to the dead.

I learned later on that our base at loggerhead creek had been attacked by a smaller band of rabbits but the attack had been successfully repulsed with just 2 dead and 3 wounded.

The only thing in our minds now was. Why did this have to happen. Why did the rabbits attack? Why did 48 men, women, and children have to die?
