(The soundtrack above is the GOCs theme for operation blackout and their battle theme in general)
Falmart. Road to the warrior bunny capital. 1 AEE.
Tanks rumbled forward. With the help of the replicators we had gotten 8 tanks up and they would spear head the push into warrior bunny land.
I rode on an armored humvee with the GOC logo painted onto it. The landscapes looked beautiful. The rolling meadows and plains with the sunset added a kind of feel you would only get in a movie.
So far we had met minimal opposition and the Church's part in the plan had already been completed. Most border villages had been captured without a shot fire expect in one village where the garrison foolishly tried to resist and the church threw several wondertainment toys into the village and ended up causing a whole lot of fucking chaos.
Wondertainment toys have become the new weapons we use to force people to surrender just because of all the word shit they can do. Sigh. Like there is the unicorn toy that if you pull its horn off it creates a mini black hole. Wondertainment can create the weirdest things sometimes.
Operation blackout so far had been a success overall the bombing campaign though small in terms of size had already crippled the bunnies. We saw a wooden sign written in Latin up ahead. Latin seemed to be the common language here. I had made sure that all GOC personnel were given a quick run down in Latin so we could communicate with the locals.
Now we had no intention of trying to pull a hearts and minds thing and openly befriending the locals. If you wanted to befriend those fucking bunnies you could do it yourself that was common attiude among me and the men.
One thing we would be doing once we crushed the rabbits was begin wide scale industrialization once we got some replicators set up. The church would handle farming and agriculture in general, my organization would of course be the peacekeepers of sorts, and the insurgency would make people who wished to rebel.....disappear. I think you get what I mean.
"Sir if our maps are correct we are 14 kilometers (8 miles) from the warrior bunny capital." Said the river of the humvee. "Lovely. Once we get there you know the drill. Ask them to surrender if they don't have the tanks permission to level the place." I said tired.
I should have gotten more sleep last night before the operation began but I kept on having nightmares and the Anti depressants didn't do shit. At least we would get this over with quickly.
Falmart. Warrior bunny capital. 1 AEE.
Monroe wore the stealth shot that the GOC had lent him and his insurgent operatives as they moved through the capital, careful not to make noise. He signaled his boys and they dashed across a small street.
The conditions felt like something in medieval England. The streets were less streets and more lanes of mud. He could smell rabbit shit everywhere and tried not to gag. He could tell his men were struggling not to gag as well. Any noise made and they would be given away.
The mission was cut and dry. Destroy the armory and get out. Henderson, the demolition specialist of his squad, got in first and began planting the C4s. "All C4 are planted." Henderson said.
This job entirely was one of the easiest missions I've been on. The bunnies hadn't stationed guards at their armory at all. I guess ti was because they didn't think anyone would be capable of infiltrating the capital with invisibility suits.
If it hadn't been for these suits having infrared vision I wouldn't be able to see my fellow comrades. With the C4s planted we rushed out quickly. We got behind one of the damp wooden houses. "Ok press it." I said. Henderson nodded and pressed the control and the C4s went up, blowing up the armory.
There goes most of the capital's weapons and arrows. The bunnies crowded around the destroyed armory screaming and yelling in Latin.
Guards rushed around the capital searching for us. We managed to find the hole in the walls we had shed to sneak in and ran out of the capital. "That was some of the easiest shit I've done." Monroe joked. "You're telling me." said Lyons who had been quiet during most of the mission joking.
"Ah crap we're gonna be walking for a while." I said, sighing realizing that we would have to walk along the main road until we bumped into our guys heading to the capital. "Yup so keep your stealth suit on until we find our guys." Said Lyons.
"Man this is gonna be a pain." Said Henderson as the 3 began to walk along the road out of the capital. "So you think if weird half humans exist we might find dragons." Monroe said.
"Maybe but they ain't doing shit as long as I got my god old trusty Gen plus 1 gun (weapons that are advanced when compared to normal technology but can easily be masked as a prototype for future technology.) the GOC lent it to me." Henderson said waving a modified colt magnum which had seen a massive upgrade.
"True even if the dragons scales protected it from that our jets would knock it out of the sky." Said Lyons tagging into the conversation. "Wasn't your girlfriend a pilot in the GOC Lyons." Monroe asked. "Yup and she still is she flew one of the Jets in bombing campaign of operation blackout." He said proudly. "I once flew on a jet. Crazy experience. My god do those jets go fucking fast I almost threw up." Lyons continued. "Remember the air war over Ganzir during the opening stages of the siege. It was like a massive firework display. Foundation anomalies flying around the city while our pilots shot them down or got swarmed. Plus foundation jets soon joined the fray." Henderson said nostalgically.
"Maybe it was a beautiful to us on the ground but it must have been fucking terrifying for the pilots. It must have been hell to fight 610 (The Flesh that hates) flying variants." Monroe said. The 3 continued their walk along the main road until they finally saw it. "Ok stealth suits off our guys are here." Manroe said as GOC tanks and Humvees rumbled forward.
Falmart. Warrior bunny village. 1 AEE.
Lt Fredrick and his company entered one of the villages near the capital. The village's label village 13V housed a large portion of the plants that the bunnies farmed. The village was more of a giant storage place for wheat, grain, and turnips.
The main goal was to take this vital supply hub. The village seemed abandoned by the time his company got to it. He had a total of 45 men in his company. Considering the average military company had between 100-125 soldiers they were understrength. Didn't matter though they would complete their objective.
"15 of you secure the walls rest with me." Fredrick said as he and his men disembarked from their humvees. He planted a C4 on the village gate and blew it. "Go, go, go." He barked as his men moved in while some climbed the walls and secured them.
"This is Reaper battalion, how copy tango company." Asked Commander Clark of the GOC on the radio. "This is Tango company, we have secured the walls of 13V and should be done clearing the full village in 30 minutes at most." Fredrick said as he and some guys began to secure a street. "Sounds like a good reaper battalion over and out." Clark said.
"Move in to secure the center of the village." Fredrick said as he gestured his men to advance. The Humvees also began to move into the village. Then an arrow flew and hit one of his guys in the shoulder. "Fuck. Second floor of building to our left." He said. " his men peppered the building in question with gunfire and screams could be heard from inside.
Then arrows began to fly from the windows of the buildings in the center village. "Get cover to go, go." He barked as the men dashed to avoid some of the arrows. "Causality! Causality!" His company's medic screamed as a man dialed it to get into cover fast enough and was littered with 5 arrows in his chest.
Fredrick laid down suppressive fire along with some of his guys as the medic dragged the man littered with arrows towards cover. "5 of you flank around the right and clear out the 2 buildings to the back." Fredrick said as his unit got into a fire fight with the rabbits. His company had already killed off 5 of them and were slowly pushing forward.
The 5 men he had ordered to flank moved around the right alleyways and tossed grenades into the back windows of the second floor of the buildings that contained the rabbits firing on them. The grenades went off and terrified screams could be heard. "Push up and clear." Fredrick barked. His men dashed forward as the Humvees now entered the fray with their machine gunners shredding the wooden buildings containing the attackers.
Then some gunfire could be heard from the walls. "We got some of the fuckers trying to retake the walls. We felt with them quickly though." Said one of his men on the radio. Fredrick and his men soon breached the houses and found the dead bodies of the rabbits who had tried to kill them.
Several of them looked just out of their teens. "Jesus. We shredded these fish to bits." Fredrick said in shock. "They shouldn't have attacked us first and surrendered. We can't do anything about it now." Said one of his men inspecting the bodies.
"How many KIA. On our side." Fredrick asked. "1 and that's the guy who got littered with arrows one of the arrows landed in his neck and he didn't make it. We also got 3 wounded but most wounds are minor. On the rabbits side we've counted 23 KIA and 11 wounded who we took as POWs." Said corporal hicks. "This was a slaughter." One of his men said. "Least they got most of their Civs out. If their CIVs were still here this might have been a messy situation." Fredrick replied as he walked up to the second floor where he found more bodies.
He then heard on his radio. "Captain remaining parts of the village are clear, all hostiles are dead." From another one of his men. "Good work. We have orders to occupy this place until relieved so set up for the night." Fredrick said.
Falmart. Outside warrior bunny capital. 1 AEE.
The tank column finally stopped just outside the rabbits capital. We had picked up the insurgents that we had sent to sabotage the rabbits armory.
The warrior bunnies manned the walls and stared down at us. We made sure to stay out of arrow range. I didn't want any of my personnel dying to a stray arrow. I grabbed a megaphone and yelled at the defenders on the wooden palisades.
"I am Commander Mathew Clark of the United Nations Global Occult Coalition. We demanded a complete and total unconditional surrender. If you surrender all prisoners of your kind we have will be released and your citizens will receive fair and equal treatment." I yelled in flawless Latin on the megaphone.
The rabbits talked among themselves and a whiter hair and white ear bunny looked down at them from the palisades with a crown of sorts. I assumed she was their queen. "What are your terms of surrender if we do." She asked. I responded quickly.
"Your queen which I assume is you will be stripped of her titles though you will be allowed to live as a citizen with basic rights and such. All military forces that your tribes currently process will be disarmed accordingly and all soldiers will be allowed to return to their families. All your land will be annexed by us though your citizens will not be enslaved or abused by my men. Finally our troops will remain to occupy your territories until all hostilities such as rogue element's of your army are crushed. You have 5 hours to discuss among yourselves these terms before we begin our assault." I said laying out the terms of surrender in a sharp and methodical way.
The Queen and her guards discussed among themselves. Me and my men watched patiently. We could play the long game for as long as we wanted to. We had jets that could simply bomb the capital into oblivion and our tanks had their guns trained on the walls and palisades.
Some of my men took out some card decks and played poker and other games among themselves. I, on my part, took out some rations and had lunch. So far operation blackouts ground phase had lasted around some 4 hours and adding an extra five to it wouldn't be that terrible.
However soon enough after just 2 hours the white flag hung from the walls of the capital. "Alright, that's our signal, let's move." I said to my men as we got up and got into our vehicles.
I road into the capital in a Humvee with the GOC logo on it while my men moved in on our 7 tanks and some armored Humvees. The gates of the capital were opened and 2 of my guys jumped out of their Humvees, climbed the ruins of the queen's palace and placed the GOC flag on its ruins. The rabbits looked scared which was reasonable. I gave my men's orders not to abuse their power now that the war was pretty much over.
Now came the hard part: occupation. And by hard I meant the boring part. My men would be occupying this land for possibly months until it was deemed unnecessary and that the rabbits had fully integrated into our society.
One thing I needed to do when I had the time was the shave. I had developed a small black beard and didn't arguably look the best on me. I also needed to get anti depressants that actually fucking worked.
While I internally rambled about my looks and mental state I was physically busy looking at the state of the capital. It was rather small and about only 2 times the size of those warrior bunny villages the church had captured. The queen's palace or what was left of it covered around half of the area of the capital.
The rabbits seemed surprised we weren't burning things down and behaving like the kingdoms from the dark ages. Didn't surprise me. They seemed to be a medieval like society to a degree and probably the least advanced out of any other races we encounter in this new reality.
Now I had Tito read the overall reports from other sectors in this operation. I looked over my phone at the reports I had gotten so far. Most reports talked about no resistance at all and the complete capitulation of the rabbits. It was almost as if they hadn't expected such a strong response from us. Operation Blackout had been a complete and overwhelming success. I saw the rabbit's queen have her crown taken off her by one of my men.
I contacted the Church and my boys in the engineering department to start bringing the materials needed for some small scale industrialization and agriculture improvements.
I had a sense of pride I hadn't felt since our heroic defense at Ganzir. We had won our first conflict in this new world and humanity had endured once more. I'm sure my fallen friends are looking down from heaven proud of how far we've gone.
Falmart. Forests. 665 imperial time.
While that coward she called queen had surrendered to the newcomers after just several hours of their invasion Delihah hadn't. She took remnants of her warriors and disgruntled soldiers from the tribes into the forests.
They wouldn't bend the knee to the newcomers. They wouldn't be like that coward Tyuule. And the newcomers could count on that.
Falmart. Sadera. 665 imperial time.
Molt couldn't have been more stressed out even if he didn't show it. His spies from the Hayro tribe had already told him that this unknown force had caused the warrior bunnies to capitulate in just a day. But frankly it didn't surprise him.
The empire still had a chance. The rabbits were weakened by 3 years of war with Sadera and most likely caught off guard by the unknown forces' invasion.
While Molt suppressed his utter fear and steeled his resolve he knew he had to keep his son away from the warrior bunny border until he had rebuilt Sadera weakened legions. While they and the numbers they lacked the veterans soldiers and Legates.
Once good legates and well trained legions were armed and ready they would strike out at this unknown force and save Falmart.
