Maya's POV...

Our car stopped just at the front door of that beautiful campus. I looked at Dad, who smiled back and opened the car door. Once my feet were on the ground, I felt some chills on my body. I looked back and started taking small steps, leaving my only support.

I looked back, and Dad left while gesturing a thumbs-up sign. A big sigh left my mouth. I clenched the long strap of my backpack, looking down. I was wearing a big red hoodie and black jeans, which were doing a great job hiding my body while the hood was hiding my face from everyone.

All the students were also going inside with me, and to my relief, no one paid attention to me. I kept looking at nothing but my white sneakers and sometimes in front too, trying not to bump into anyone.

Once I reached the grey-painted building, I took the five stairs in the front and got inside. I looked around and found a teacher, asking him about the principal's office. He replied with a stern face, "To the left, room number fifteen." I walked and found it, knocking softly before saying...

"May I come in, sir?"

The principal, who looked around his 80s, smiled and said, "Yes, you can." He gave me my schedule, and I left, trying to find my class.

It didn't take me that long because it was just on the first floor. I took a deep breath and entered the class, pulling my hood further down.

As I entered, the class fell silent. I heard the professor's voice. "Welcome, student. Please take a seat, but first, introduce yourself to the class." I closed my eyes and opened them again. My heart started beating abnormally fast, and sweat began rolling down my head.

"Ye...yes," I said in a very low voice. I knew no one had heard it. I clenched my fists and walked to the front of the class, remembering nothing but my family.

"Hello, my name is Maya Morles. I hope we can be friends in the future." I let those words out quickly, keeping it short and simple. The students clapped their hands and welcomed me. I was shocked, to be honest, but I knew it was nothing but a formality. The teacher told me to sit in the empty chair next to a boy wearing a white shirt, his black hair falling on his forehead. He looked effortlessly handsome. I sat down and opened my backpack, taking out my notebook to take notes.

We never talked.

It was time for the break. I got up and started following the students toward the canteen. There was a huge line at the food stall, which made me feel like giving up. I couldn't be in that crowd, so I thought I should just sit at an empty table until the break ended.

I was about to walk towards it when I heard a voice.

"Bro, that's spicy! Go and bring me water," a boy said. I shook my head and started walking again when...

"Hey, you in the red hood, come here!" a boy said, his voice different from the other one but coming from the same large table. My fists clenched in fear, and I lowered my head, trying to avoid anyone's gaze. People were looking at me after that boy called out to me.

I was debating whether to go or not when the voice shouted again...

"ARE YOU DEAF? DIDN'T YOU HEAR? COME HERE!"

My eyes filled with tears, and my lips started trembling. This was why I never wanted to go outside. I turned and walked towards their table with my head still down. When I reached them, one of the boys threw an empty water bottle at me.

"Bring me water," the boy said.

I nodded timidly and left to get water. My hands were trembling as the water filled the bottle, soaking my sleeves. I bit my bottom lip and closed the cap before walking back towards them.

I reached them, but they didn't notice me. I didn't know how to get their attention, so I just stood there until I was about to cry. I gathered all my courage and said...

"Here..."

I heard a chair scraping on the floor, and a boy quickly came close, grabbing me by my shoulders.

"YOU'RE A GIRL?" he shouted. I flinched and started crying silently, trying to get away from him. This was too much, too much for me.

I didn't say anything, but he continued...

"Are you that ugly that you need to hide your pathetic self like this?" he mocked.

"Ugly, pathetic..." Those words echoed in my mind, and more tears streamed down my face. I was so scared that I wanted to run, but his grip on my shoulders kept me in place.

"I want to see her face," another boy said, clapping his hands.

They all started beating the table like drums, making noise. I kept trying to push him away, but he was strong.

He pulled my hood off in one go, but when his hand was on my hood, I pushed him. The force of my hasty step made me fall too. My hood was off. I heard gasps from the people, and I knew they would call me nothing but an ugly monster. The boys at the table hadn't seen me yet, but I heard a very angry voice from behind.

"HOW DARE YOU PUSH ME, BITCH?" The boy came near me with angry footsteps and grabbed my hair, pulling me up and making me stand. A whimper escaped my mouth in pain. He turned me harshly towards their table, still gripping my hair, and I closed my eyes, not wanting to see anything anymore.

But there wasn't a sound for a few minutes, making me impatient. I opened my eyes slowly to see nothing but a devilishly handsome boy sitting in the middle, his eyes so dark, so deep, and so dominating that they scared me. His gaze held mine, his lips curved in a devilish smirk. I looked around him to see more boys, one with red hair and one with brown. They all looked nothing but evil, and I was like a prey they were going to destroy.

The boy holding my hair looked confused, glancing at his friends, but when he turned his eyes back to me, they widened.

He released his grip on my hair, and I did nothing but stand straight. I didn't know what to do anymore. So many bad things had happened to me in just one day.

"EYES OFF HER! SHE IS MINE... MY PREY..."

The boy in the middle roared. I trembled after hearing that voice, his gaze still locked with mine. I couldn't hold it anymore. I quickly looked down and ran...
