"N..." I was about to deny when suddenly Dad came. The conversation stopped in the middle, and once inside the car, I closed my eyes, letting him think I was sleeping even though I wasn't.

We all reached home. The evening went just like the morning, with so many talks, and finally, the night came along with his thoughts.

Climbing up the bed after wearing the night pajamas, I put the blanket over myself.

In the cold night, it provided warmth. My eyes were open, looking outside the window. Small stars could be seen a little, even though today was a chilly day.

The curtains flowed slowly with the wind, making me remember those touches. His lips' warmth suddenly made me lick my own lips. My stomach twisted after remembering how his thumb caressed my naked waist.

Rhys. The name was all over me, like he wanted. I feared the thought of tomorrow-how will I hide Victor, how will I tell him to stay away from me?

I was busy in my own thoughts when the phone buzzed. Taking it from under the pillow, I looked at the screen...

A text from the contact I could now easily recognize.

Good night, Maya... the text said, and I deleted it quickly. Shutting my phone down, I pushed it back under the pillow.

But suddenly, it started ringing. With a gulp, I took out the phone and slid the green icon up.

"You didn't reply..." Rhys said in a very deep voice, his voice almost sleepy.

"I... I d...idn't sa...w it," I replied, cursing myself for stuttering.

"Then why is it showing 'seen,' butterfly?" he said in the same deep voice, but the sleepiness in it was gone.

I heard the sound of a hard object falling but didn't dare to ask.

IF YOU EVER LIE TO ME, MAYA, I WILL KILL YOU... he shouted in anger. My hand started trembling in fear, and my heartbeat quickened. Clutching the blanket tighter to my chest, I said,

"I a...m sorry," I let out in a crying voice.

"I will see how sorry you are tomorrow," he said and cut the call. And that's how my sleep was gone.

The morning misty wind hit my face, sending small shivers through my body. My eyes were tired, longing for peaceful sleep. I clutched the blanket, and with a sigh, pushed it off. Leaving the room, I walked downstairs.

No one had woken up yet, maybe. I walked towards the kitchen to make myself coffee when suddenly I heard a sound.

Looking around, I tried to find the source. The empty cup I took out from the cabinet was still in my hand. Walking towards the sound, I moved closer.

"Fuck," someone cursed, and chills ran down my spine. Wanting to run back, I stopped when the sound kept coming from the garden. I walked towards it.

Standing behind the door that connected the hall and garden, I peeked.

Seconds passed, turning into minutes. I kept looking at the scene in front of me until a voice reached near my ears.

"You are staring..."

Widening my eyes, I quickly stumbled on my feet, trying to get away from Victor's mischievous gaze.

There he stood wearing just boxers, his chest bare, letting me see those huge tight muscles, his body all wet with sweat from exercising.

I gulped a small amount of saliva. Stammering on my own words, I let out,

"I...I wa...s..n't." Turning my back to him, I quickly ran towards the kitchen, all flustered from the sudden encounter.

Making myself a coffee, I poured it into the white cup. Suddenly, a black cup was placed there just beside mine.

"What about me?" he said, and I took a small glance before pouring coffee into his cup too.

"Too sweet," he complained.

"I like my coffee sweet," I said, looking at the hot smoke touching my mouth, sending small warmth.

"Perfect," he said, chuckling.

I looked at him with a questioning gaze.

"What?" I asked.

"Nothing," he replied.

Once my coffee was finished, I placed the cup in the sink and took my leave from there.

"Isn't it perfect that you like sweet and I like mine bitter?"

"Why are you ignoring me, Maya?" Victor whispered, looking at Maya's back as she left without even sparing him a glance.

Picking up the cup Maya left, he placed his lips on it and sighed.

Taking both cups, he placed them under the water tap and washed them.

Walking towards his room, he glanced at Maya's room and took a step toward it.

But he stopped in the middle. Clenching his fist, he turned toward his room and got inside.

"Maya..."

He whispered, taking a deep breath. He prepared his backpack and everything to start a new journey at college.

On the other side, Maya stood clutching her own T-shirt tightly, her mind and heart restless.

Finding a way to hide Victor from Rhys seemed nearly impossible, but she had to do it somehow, or Rhys wouldn't leave him alive.

Walking towards the washroom, she decided to freshen up first. After finally getting dressed in a warm red large T-shirt and black jeans, I walked out of the room. Walking downstairs, I saw Mom placing breakfast on the table.

"Good morning, Mom," I said.

"Good morning, sweetheart. You woke up on your own; well, that's an improvement," she replied in a teasing tone. I hummed with a smile and sat at the table, waiting for everyone.

I didn't have to wait too long, as Dad, Aunt, Evan, and then Victor came one after another. Victor was wearing a blue hoodie paired with white pants matching the font color, which said "Mountains" on his hoodie.

Starting breakfast with small talks and ending it in silence, I stood up from the chair, picking up the bag when suddenly Dad called.

"Maya, you and Victor should go together since his bike is here now."
