A smile came to my lips as I walked out. Swinging the keychain on my finger, I opened the door of my car and drove toward my house.
The night seemed awfully lonely without her beside me. The cold wind kept caressing my hair. Licking my lips, I provided my lips with moisturizer.
The day was cold. Once I parked the car at home, I got out and walked inside, and the first thing I saw was my mom waiting for me at the door.
"Hey, love, I am back..." I said, and she looked at me from up to down, already knowing where I was.
Dad, who was sitting on the couch behind my mom, pulled her hand, which made her fall into his lap.
"See, I told you to stop worrying about him. You should worry about other people instead..." he said with a chuckle, and I walked toward them while shaking my head.
"No, why will she care for someone else when I am her son?" I said, sitting and looking at them, and Mom turned her head, sticking her tongue out in a mocking way to tease Dad.
"See, my son is possessive of me," she said in a mocking tone, and Dad looked at her with wide eyes.
"Am I not, honey?" he exclaimed loudly, and I knew that this conversation was going to end with them kissing, so letting out a sigh, I walked away into my room.
Once inside, I started to take off my clothes and wore comfy pajamas and a tee.
Sitting on the bed, I took out my phone and started scrolling through Maya's pictures, which I had clicked.
I was missing her...
Like crazy... A chuckle left my mouth at my own thought. Throwing my back on my bed, I looked at the ceiling.
"Can't wait for tomorrow to meet you, butterfly..." I said, looking at the picture of her sleeping in my car. It was adorable.
Maya's POV...
Rhys was gone angrily, and this thought was keeping me awake. Why was it affecting me? I didn't know. I never craved his attention, so why did it matter if he was angry?
Turning and twisting, I kept trying to close my eyes so I could sleep, but he never let me. Standing up, I walked toward the window from where he was gone and looked into the dark sky.
"It's really cold today...
Did he wear something warm?"
Ahh, why do you care? I shouted internally at my own thoughts.
My hands reached to close the window but stopped in the middle when my eyes suddenly went toward the spot from where Rhys picked me up.
It was empty, yet I could imagine him sitting inside the midnight blue car, playing with his phone.
"Stop thinking about him..." I scolded myself again.
Grabbing both window handles, I closed it and walked toward the bed. Climbing on it, I pulled the warm blanket over me.
"Is he really mad..." I whispered silently, looking down at my blanket, and a sigh left my mouth.
I should have told him...
Ahh, what the hell are you thinking, stupid? He would have killed him...
Rhys kept roaming inside my mind, and without knowing, my eyes slowly fell shut, enveloping me in deep sleep.
The morning came, and I woke up after hearing the soft knocks on my door.
Taking slow steps while yawning, I walked toward the door and opened it...
The yawn, which was still incomplete, froze after seeing Rhys just in front of me.
Blinking thrice.
It was a dream, right? It is a dream. He isn't here. Why would he even come here?
But my voice got stuck when I heard my mom's cough, who was just behind him...
So it wasn't a dream...
Haah...
It wasn't a dream. Turning my back toward him while adjusting my bird nest-like hair, I ran inside the washroom and locked the door.
Shit, that was awkward...
When I looked at the mirror in front of me, I felt more embarrassed. The drool was still there, the hair was here and there, some even standing straight. Eyes were tired—shit, is that eye crust?
Quickly washing my face with cold water, I tried to fix my appearance and then took out the toothpaste harshly. With a fast pace, I brushed my teeth and, taking a deep breath, slowly unlocked the door just to see him sitting on my bed alone.
Mom was gone...
Taking small steps, I walked near him, and the first thing that left my mouth was...
"Are you mad at me, Rhys?"
He turned toward me and looked at me from up to down, then looked at the clock on the wall...
My gaze automatically followed his, and when I saw the time, I panicked. Oh, I was late... Quickly running back, I shouted.
"I will be ready in a few minutes, just wait..."
Minutes turned into one hour when I finally got ready.
Picking up my backpack, I looked at Rhys, who was scrolling through his phone.
"Let's go..." I said, and he got up silently while walking out without a word.
I followed his steps while looking at his back...
Why is he not saying anything? Is he gonna ignore me like this...?
Mom and Dad made Rhys have breakfast with us. During the whole breakfast, he spoke to everyone—Mom, Dad, Evan—but not me...
He would have even spoken to Victor if he hadn't gone to college early.
Right now, we were walking toward the car. He walked toward the driver's seat and opened the door for himself to sit. I looked at his movements and let out a sigh...
Why is he being mean to me...?
A sudden pout came over my lips. I opened the door for myself, wore the seatbelt, folded my arms, and decided to ignore him too...
