Sophia’s POV

I turned around on my bed lazily, my body feeling very week. I had slept quite late because I was binge watching game of thrones with Jenny, who was still very much asleep and enjoying her sleep while me, the early riser, was on the bed, feeling weak and now unable to sleep.

I sighed as I turned around on my bed once again, wanting nothing but to sleep but I couldn’t bring myself to sleep. I was going home today to visit my parents. Simon was sick and I couldn’t just stay here. My mind hasn’t been at rest ever since I heard that he was sick and I wanted to go home to see him and be sure that he was going to be fine.

Plus Sarah wouldn’t stop crying that her twin was sick and I didn’t really like seeing her cry like that. I didn’t like seeing any of my family in tears.

With a sigh, I forced myself to sit up on the bed and I looked around the room. The time read six thirty-two am on my digital clock. Today was Saturday.

I sighed and checked my phone. There was already a good morning text from Ian. My heart skipped a beat and I replied his text. “Good morning.” I texted back.

“I’m going home today.” I sent too.

His text came him almost immediately. “Today?? You didn’t tell me that you were going home.”

“It’s impromptu. My little brother is sick.” I sent an explanation.

“And when will you be back?” He asked.

“Monday morning. I’ll book a morning flight back so I’ll arrive before my first class.” I explained.

“Text me when you get home.” He answered.

“Alright.” I texted back and dropped my phone on the bed then got up from the bed. I walked to the bathroom and took my bath then brushed my teeth before walking back into the room.

I applied my body cream and lotion then oiled my hair and made it into a quick bun then dressed in jeans and a shirt. I packed a few necessities quickly into a bag and slung it over my shoulder and then wrote a note for Jenny to see when she wakes up.

I didn’t want to be the one to wake her up just yet. I left the dorm and got to the train station just in time to buy the ticket and board the train.

It was two pm when I got home. I was very exhausted and I wanted to sleep. Lazily I raised my hand and knocked the door.

The door opened a few seconds later and Sarah was standing in front of me with a dull look which instantly brightened up when she realized it was me..

“Sophia!” She squealed, coming out and wrapping her arms around me in a hug.

“Baby girl,” I answered with a chuckle and broke the big. I leaned down slightly to kiss her cheek. “You seem to have grown taller. What are you eating anyways?”

“Just normal food,” she answered with a shrug and took my hand, dragging me into the hospital. I walked in and dropped my bag on the floor. Dad was in the kitchen, cooking. He paused when I came in and left what he was cooking, rushing over to me. “Sweetie. You’ve arrived,” he said, kissing my cheek.

“Hey dad,” I greeted. “Where’s mom and Simon?”

“They’re at the hospital,” he answered with a sigh.

“The hospital?” I repeated with a screech. “Is it that serious?”

“Not so serious but we took him to the hospital just to be on the safer side, and so he can receive proper medical care” He explained. I nodded in understanding and then sighed.

“I can help with whatever you’re cooking. You seem exhausted anyways. You should rest, and then when we’ve all eaten, we can go to the hospital with Simon and Mom’s food,” I told him, walking to the kitchen.

“I think you should be the one resting, darling,” he answered, following me into the kitchen. “You look so exhausted.”

“I assure you I’m not,” I lied. I was so close to fainting but dad was also exhausted and I couldn’t just leave him alone to do all the work.

“Stop lying. We can go to see Simon tomorrow. You should rest,” he insisted but I shook my head. I was equally as stubborn when I needed to be.

“Well go and see Simon when we’ve eaten. Let me get the food ready,” I told him. “Go and rest for a bit. And you too, Sarah.”

She nodded and walked away, dragging dad with her. I sighed, rubbing my face and then focusing on the meal he was preparing.

***

I frowned as we walked into the hospital. I hated hospitals with a lot of passion. It was more or less like the home of bad news. There were barely any good news to be received in the hospital, except maybe the birth of a child or anything.

And I also hated the smell of antiseptics too. I sighed and ran my hands through my hair once again. I was very tired but I needed to see my little brother first.

We walked into the ward where Simon and mom was. She raised her head and gasped when she saw me. “Sophia! Sweetie! You didn’t tell me you were coming home!” She exclaimed, rushing to me and hugging me.

“I didn’t think I’d come home but Sarah wouldn’t stop calling and crying that Simon is sick,” I answered, ruffling Sarah’s hair.

Mom shot her a stern look. “Didn’t I tell you not to tell her?”

“I’d have been very angry if you didn’t inform me that my little brother is sick,” I answered with a sigh. “So it is better as she told me.”

I kissed her cheek and sidestepped her, going to see Simon. He was asleep. And he looks thinner. “How long has he been sick?” I asked, raising a brow..

“For about a week,” mom answered, watching me. “But he’s much better now and he will be discharged tomorrow,” she explained. “Have you been resting at all?”

“Yes mom, I have,” I answered with a nod. “You don’t need to worry about me,” I assured her and the grabbed one of the food boxes with Sarah and stretched it to her. “We cooked,” I said.

“Thank you, sweetheart,” she answered and kissed my forehead.

I got up and felt dizzy all of a sudden. I staggered, quickly grabbing on to my dad for support. “Sweetie, are you okay?” He asked in alarm.

“Yes I –” I blacked out.

My eye fluttered open, blurry and trying to adjust to the light.

I could make out a figure sitting beside me and it seemed to be dark already. Slowly, my vision got clearer and I made out the person sitting next to me. It was Jenny.

“Jenny?”

“Jeez! You’re awake! Finally!” She exclaimed, helping me confirm that she was really the one.

“What are you doing here?” I asked slowly, unable to make sense of her presence here.

“I called you but Sarah was the one who picked and she told me you had fainted,” she answered. “I booked a flight here instantly.”

“Where is my phone?” I asked, looking around.

“It’s right here,” She answered and gave it to me. “Don’t worry, I have reached out to Ian and told him you are perfectly fine. You know, when I first received the news, I thought you were pregnant and I swore that I was going to kill both you and him, but then the doctor said it’s simple because you haven’t had enough rest.”

I rolled my eyes at her. “I use the pills all the time.”

“It doesn’t matter. Pills are not one hundred percent safe and you might still get pregnant. I’m not ready to be an aunt just yet. I’m afraid being an aunt comes with some certain responsibility and seriousness that I’m not ready for yet,” she rambled.

“Is that so?” I asked slyly. “Maybe he and I should just make babies just to see what happens to you.”

“Who and who is making babies?”

My eyes shot to the door where my mom was standing, a slight frown on her face.

“Jenny and I were just talking about a movie,” I lied smoothly.

“It better be a movie,” she answered, giving me a stern look before smiling at me. “You got me worried.”

“I’m sorry, I didn’t know that I was that exhausted,” I answered, giving g her an apologetic smile. “But you guys didn’t really have to bother Jenny. You shouldn’t have let her come here.”

“I didn’t even know she was coming here I till she arrived,” Mom answered with a chuckle. “I am just as shocked as you are,” she answered, stroking Jenny’s hair affectionately.

“Oh it’s no hassle. Sophie is my best friend. I can’t just sit and do nothing after hearing that she fainted,” Jenny said with a laugh.

I smiled at her, grateful that she was in my life. When I feel much better, I’d talk to Ian.
