Sophia’s POV
I turned around on my bed, hugging the duvet to my body. As I expected, Sarah had turned my room to hers but she had moved back to she and Simon’s shared room till I leave again. Simon and I were discharged yesterday night and I had been sleeping ever since.
I opened my eyes and yawned, then stretched. I picked up my phone and checked the time. It was Sunday. Almost one pm. I picked up my phone and decided to call Ian first. I was supposed to call him since yesterday yet I had failed to do that. At least Jenny had spoken to him and assured him that I was okay.
I ran my hands through my hair as I dialed his number and I waited for him to pick up his call. He picked up on the second ring.
“Who am I speaking with?” He asked flatly and I frowned. Didn’t he have my number again? Or did I dial someone else?
I removed the phone from my ear. It was his name. It was his voice. My frown deepened as I put the phone to my ear once again. “Did you delete my number or something?”
“I needed to make sure that it was you I was really speaking to,” he answered. “I told you to tell me when you get home yesterday.”
“I wanted to,” I answered.
“Then why didn’t you?” He asked.
“I didn’t have the chance,” I answered.
“How do you feel?” He asked with a sigh.
“Much better, thanks,” I answered.
“You haven’t been resting much?” He asked.
“I have,” I assured him. “I just had quite a lot of things to do yesterday so I didn’t have the chance to rest when I got home.”
“I almost got on a flight to come check on you, but your best friend, Jenny, assured me that you were okay,” he said.
“I am okay,” I assured him. “I’m very fine. I just needed to rest a bit.”
“Well do that. Okay?” He said.
“I will, I promise,” I answered. “I miss you,” I added quietly.
“I think I miss you more,” he replied. “Nah, I definitely miss you more.”
I chuckled. “I’ll speak to you later,” I told him and then hung up.
“Ugh. You lover birds annoy me sometimes.”
I almost jumped out of my bed at Jenny’s voice that came out of nowhere. Where the heck was she?
“Oops, did I scare you?” She asked in an innocent voice as she sat up on the floor, staring at me from lowered lashes.
“No you didn’t scare me,” I answered flatly and ran my hands through my hair.
“Lies. I scared you,” she murmured.
“You wish,” I answered, rolling my eyes. “Did you sleep on the floor?”
“Yep,” she answered and nodded. “I didn’t want to make you feel inconvenience on the bed so I decided to sleep on the floor instead. Don’t worry, I don’t have body pains. And Yes, I’m fine. Very fine.”
“What makes you think I care about all that you just said?” I asked, raising a brow at her.
“You do, whether you admit it or not,” she answered. “Anyways, as I said earlier, you lovebirds annoy me a lot.”
“Finally you know how I feel when you’re rambling about Ronan,” I shot back with a roll of my eyes, swinging my legs down the edge of the bed and then getting up from the bed.
“I see you’ve had too much rest,” she answered, staring at me with pursed lips. “Anyways everyone has had breakfast and Simon even came to check up on you but you were asleep so he has gone back to his room. Your mom has gone to church and your dad has gone to work.”
“Sarah?” I asked, taking off my clothes and wrapping the towel around my body. I loosened my bun and ran my hands through my already tangled hair.
“Gone to church with your mom,” she answered with a shrug.
“You really didn’t need to come, Jenny,” I said, staring at her. “You have a class early tomorrow morning. And yet you’re here. You know you can’t meet up with the class tomorrow.”
“I wasn’t wanting to meet up with the class, Soph. Truth be told, this is an excuse to skip all my classes for tomorrow and take my much needed rest,” she a sweeed with a grin.
“Really now?” I asked with a raised eyebrow. “You wound me. I thought you were here because you really cared for me.”
“Me?” She choked out and then scoffed. “Care for you? No, Sophia. I don’t,” she deadpanned and I gasped while she added. “You just happened to be a means to an end, sadly.”
I chuckled and shook her head. “Really, I don’t know what kind of friend you are. I don’t even know how we managed to become friends because you’re the weirdest bitch there is. Really.”
“Me? Weird?” She gasped and snorted. “I assure you, you’re the weird one.”
“Whatever,” I answered as I walked to the bathroom and took my bath. I came out after bathing and did all my necessities then oiled and combed my hair before dressing in shorts and a shirt.
“What will you do tomorrow when we get back?” She asked with a raised eyebrow.
“I don’t know. Go to class, of course,” I answered casually with a shrug. What else did she expect?
“So you mean you would be going straight to class tomorrow?” She asked and I nodded slowly.
“That’s exactly what I meant.”
“ugh..why don’t you just stay in the hostel with me and rebel?” She whined.
“Rebel?” I asked and scoffed. “And you consider yourself a rebel?”
“Whatever. You get my point anyways. Don’t go to class,” she tried to persuade. I shook my head. “Why not?”
“Just stay with me,” she whined. “If you go, then I’d be forced to go too.”
I sighed then grinned at her. “Well rhYz exactly what I want. For you to go to school. Don’t be lazy,” I laughed.
“I can’t believe Exams are starting soon,” Jenny mumbled, shoving an handful of fries into her mouth and then my ching slowly.
“Yeah, me too,” I answered with a sigh.
“So we need to start reading. Like very very soon. Tomorrow we’re going to school. I’m not sure I can handle all the stress I’m going to be getting during the exams,” she complained.
“Well I’ve been reading. It’s you who have been relaxing,” I answered with a shrug. “And talking to Ronan.”
She shot me a glare and ten rolled her eyes. “Do you think I should just drop out?” She asked, raising her brows as she looked at me. I frowned at her.
“It’s your choice. I can’t decide for you,” I answered. “But you’re joking, right?”
“I’m not,” she said, shaking her head.
“You’re not? Are you fucking kidding me?” I asked, raising my brows.
“No. Actually,” Jenny looked left and right. “I think I might be pregnant.”
I stared at her for a full minute, and burst into laughter. “You make the best jokes at times.”
“This is not a joke though,” she answered flatly. “I wouldn’t be joing about this sort of thing.”
“It’s not a joke, then what is it?” I asked with a raised eyebrow. “You have to be fucking kidding me! Pregnant?!”
“Shhh!” She slapped her palm over my mouth. “You do know that your brother is still inside this house, right? He can tell anyone so fucking keep your voice low!”
I shoved her palm away from my mouth and then glared t her. “You’re the one who keeps telling me to be careful and use protection and the pills! And yet you’re the one telling me you’re pregnant?” I whisper-yelled. “You’ve got to be fucking kidding me, Jenny!”
She sighed and shook her head. “I’m not.”
“Well have you told the father?” I asked and she shoo her head again. “Who do you think the father is?”
She shot me a look. “What do you mean who do I think? Of course it’s Ronan! Who else? Do you think I’ve been sleeping around?”
I shook my head and sighed. “Of course not. I’m sorry. That just came out wrongly,” I answered, shaking my head again.
“It’s just a speculation. I can’t be sure yet,” she answered.
“What made you suspect that you were pregnant in the first place?” I asked softly.
“I missed my period last week and it still hasn’t come,” she answered, her shoulders dropping.
“And you’re just telling me?” I squeaked out. “Why are you just telling me? Didn’t you trust me enough?”
“What? Of course not. You know I do trust you. It’s just that I wanted to wait a while before jumping into conclusions,” she explained with a grim smile.
“And why are you so calm about this?” I asked, raising a brow. “Are you joking with me right now, Jenny?”
“No of course not,” she shook her head. “Besides, what good is fear?”
I got up from the couch and snatched the bowl of fries from her hand, going to drop it on the dining table before walking back to her and running my hands through my hair. “We should go to a store and get the kit,” I said.
“No I don’t trust those things. We should go to the hospital instead and get the blood test done,” she replied.
“Hospital? Anyone can see us and tell my parents!” I glared at her.
“We can go to a lab not far from my house then. That’s better?” She asked with a raised eyebrow, getting up from the couch.
“Much better. And the way you’re just so calm about everything is so unsettling,” I told her. It really was unsettling, like she couldn’t care less what happened to her if she really was pregnant.
“Like I said, there’s really no point in getting scared,” she answered as we left the house. “Are you hungry? Should we get something to eat?”
I narrowed my eyes at her “We just had fries,” I reminded her.
“I know I know,” she answered and sighed. “But it doesn’t matter. I’m still hungry.”
“You’re definitely not having pregnancy cravings. Not at this stage, it still early,” I murmured. “Are you trying to scare me?”
“No. Why would I?” She asked with a raised eyebrow.
“You’re acting really strange,” I murmured. “Should we board a cab or do we have to trek all the way to your place?”
“We can just trek and like catch up with everything,” she answered and grinned at me. “What do you think of baby names?”
“Baby names?” I asked with a scoff. “Are you really being serious right now?”
“Come on. Indulge me. What do you think of baby names? Like, baby names for girls? Or what if it’s a boy?” She raised her brow, her eyes bright.
I sighed, shaking my head. I was trying to be serious and yet here she was deciding to be all playful with me. It really wasn’t funny. But at the same time, picking out baby names did seem fun.
“Is Ronan such a great guy that you want to have a baby for him?” I asked, laughing lightly and shaking my head.
She just grinned at me. “So what if I name my baby girl Rina?” She asked. “Or Roman for a boy?”
“Is it strictly ‘R’ names?” I asked with a light laugh.
The conversation kept going until we reached the lab and we went in. After waiting for a while, the lab technician came out.
“Hi. I’m here for a pregnancy test. Blood test,” she specified.
The doctor told us how much that would cost and Jenny paid instantly.
The doctor took her into his office and after a few minutes, she came out, holding a tissue paper to her arm.
“Did it hurt?” I asked her and she shook her head. “It’s just a needle.” She answered.
“You should probably tell Ronan about this,” I told her and she shook her head firmly.
“No! Are you trying to break us apart?” She exclaimed.
“Break you apart? Why would telling Ronan about this break you and him apart?” I asked, feeling confused.
“Because he’s not ready for something like this. He might get scared and pull back and I don’t want that,” she answered harshly and I raised my hands in surrender.
“And if you’re really pregnant? Will you get rid of it because Ronan might get scared and pul back?” I asked.
“Let me think of that after I see the test results,” she murmured, folding her arms stubbornly. I shook my head and sighed.
The doctor came out a few minutes later with a paper and smiled at her. She gave her the paper and we stared at what was written in it. The test was negative. She wasn’t pregnant.
