Jenny’s POV

I paced around Ian’s home, staring at the clock in annoyance and counting the hours in which they had been gone. It’s almost twelve hours and they still aren’t back yet. I couldn’t bring myself to remain calm because all I could think of was if Sophia had been harmed.

If she was…dead. It hurt me to think like that but I didn’t have the choice but to think like that. Whether I liked it or not, I had to prepare my mind for all the bad news that could come with their return. She could be dead. Something terrible must have happened to her. I just hoped it wasn’t the case but now I couldn’t get that out of my head.

And in the same way, I couldn’t get what Ian had told me out of my head. They were vampires. He was the king of their realm. King of their realm! That felt so surreal. I didn’t know what to believe and what not to. And I knew I wouldn’t have believed a word from him if he didn’t show me himself.

If his brother and those guys hadn’t moved in that inhumane speed which they did. If he hadn’t shown me his eyes. Fuck. It was hard to believe, but I had no choice but to believe. I saw it with my own two eyes yet…fuck. I didn’t know what to think anymore.

I ran my hands through my hair in frustration and my eyes went back to be time once again. Why weren’t they back yet? It was very dark now and I was getting scared. What if someone came for me? What if someone was going to kill me? Yet they had locked me in here and I had tried to find a way out but that was going to work at all.

I ran my hands through my hair in frustration one more time and jumped when the door pushed open. Fuck. How had I nod heard that there was someone outside in the first place?

I picked up a knife, ready to attack whoever it was but it was Ian that came in, holding Sophia in his arms. A lady walked in after him, a bag in her hands and then Jacob came in last, locking the door behind him.

I didn’t know what to do, whether to run to Ian and see if my best friend was really okay or if I should point my knife to that woman. She could be the same Freya which wanted to kill Sophia and she could kill me too…

I pointed the knife to her and she paused waking, raising a brow at me. “Who are you?” I demanded.

“Who are you?” She asked in the same irritated tone then she turned to Ian. “And who is this one too?”

“She’s Sophie’s best friend,” he answered, pausing a bit and then walking to the couch. He dropped Sophie on it gently.

“And why is she here?” The lady demanded.

“I had no choice but to tell her, Lyanna,” he answered tiredly. “I trust her anyways.”

“It’s funny just how fast you’re trusting these humans,” she murmured flatly, shaking her head slightly.

“Let’s not forget that you’re a human too,” Ian murmured flatly, brushing Sophia’s hair away from her face. She looked like she was sleeping. She looked peaceful.

“I’m a witch. There’s a difference,” the Lyanna snapped and I frowned.

“A witch?” I repeated.

“Oh, you’re in awe?” The lady replied and grinned. I narrowed my eyes at her. I didn’t have the time to process all that they were saying at the moment so I decided to drop it till later. I just needed to know if Sophia was okay.

I held the knife tightly. I might still need it. “What’s wrong with her? Is she okay?” I asked as I slowly approached her. I raised one hand and touched her skin. It was like I had just dipped my hands into a bowl of cold water.

“Why is she this cold?” I asked, panicking. “What’s going on?” I added, taking a step back and pointing the knife at Ian, and then Jacob who rolled his eyes and rubbed his head. “What have you three done to her?”

When they remained quiet, I began to panic seriously. “What have you monsters done to her?!”

“Well I don’t think you’ll be pleased to know that your best friend is now one of us monsters,” Jacob replied flatly and Ian kissed his teeth but said nothing.

The knife dropped from my hand in the same way that my heart dropped to my stomach. I couldn’t understand what he just said. I refused to understand what he just said.

He just Insinuated that…that…that Sophia was one of them. One of them?

My heart was pounding hard in my chest and I shook my head, refusing to believe what I had just heard.

“She’s not one of you,” I murmured.

Jacob just rolled his eyes while Lyanna walked to the kitchen, murmuring “I sincerely don’t have the patience for all of these.”

Ian was the only one who looked like he was willing to explain what I had just heard. “What do you mean?”

“Sophia…Sophia is not the same girl you know anymore. She’s now…a vampire.”

“A vampire?!” I exploded. “What did you do to her?!”

“I was just trying to protect her. I didn’t think that this will happen,” Ian answered, rubbing his face. “I didn’t think that she’ll be attacked and Freya will—”

“What did Freya do?” I asked, narrowing my eyes. I could already tell that I wouldn’t like the answer at all.

“She killed her already but Ian’s blood was in her so your dear Sophia has completed the transition and now she’s one of us,” Jacob answered bluntly. “Now can you both just shut the fuck up because I’m trying to have the rest I haven’t had in hours!”

“Watch your damned tons, Jacob!” Ian snapped back, his eyes narrowing at his brother.

“Why isn’t she awake?” I asked, my voice shaking.

“She just…went through some process so she needs a lot of rest right now and I’ll appreciate if you don’t wake her up. Okay?” Ian answered softly. “I can’t talk muh but I promise I’ll explain everything well later. Jacob, please escort her to one of the guest rooms.”

Jacob’s eyes narrowed but he just glared at me and began stalking up the stairs. A tear dropped down my cheeks as I began to walk up the stairs behind Jacob.

The tears came in full force and I was sniffing now. I couldn’t believe this was happening to me. I couldn’t believe that my best friend was dead, and now one of them.

And I warned her about being with Ethan. I knew…I just knew that there was something wrong and something was going to go wrong with them and now look at this. He had turned her into one of them.

How was I going to cope with this?

I ran my hands through my hair in frustration and wiped the tears away from my face. I sniffed loudly and Jacob stopped so abruptly that I bumped into him.

“What the fuck?” I snapped, wiping the tears from my face.

He turned to me swiftly and stared down at me with hard eyes. “Your tears isn’t going to change the situation or what your best friend is now so can you just stop crying and act normal?”

“Act normal?” I repeated slowly, anger slowly rising up to my chest. “Act normal?” My voice was rising now. “You want me to act normal?” I asked with a scoff. “You must be out of your god-damned mind! How am I supposed to act normal after hearing that my best friend has been turned into a fucking vampire because your brother put her in danger…put a fucking target on her back?! You know what? Just stay the fuck away from me or else I’ll be the one to kill you myself! I fucking hate you!”

I pushed him off, not caring that he didn’t bulge and I stormed right into the guest room then slammed the door shut.

There was a soft knock on the door and I hugged the pillow tighter to myself. “Who is there?” I asked in a hoarse voice.

The door pushed open and Ian walked in, leaving the door open. “She’s awake,” he told me softly. “And I’m sorry for Jacob’s attitude earlier. He’s not used to having to reason with the humans,” he tried to explain.

“He told you how he acted?” I asked with a raised eyebrow.

“No,” Ian replied, shaking his head. “I heard you guys. Sensitive hearing,” he explained, tapping his ears.

“Oh,” I answered flatly, pressing my lips together. “Well I hope he knows he’s an asshole. Where is Sophia?”

“She’s downstairs,” he answered.

“Is she… approachable?” I asked softly.

He pressed his lips together, then sighed. “She’s getting used to this…she can hear us too, so you need to be careful.”

“Right,” I murmured, getting up from the bed and sliding my feet into my slippers.

We went downstairs together but when we got there, Sophia was no where to be seen. Just Jacob reading some documents and Lyanna watching television.

“Where’s she?” I asked, my eyes searching around. He said she was in the living room. Could she turn invisible or what?

“Oh she vamped off a few minutes after Ian left. But I’m sure she’s upstairs,” Lyanna answered, waving her hand dismissively while Jacob remained unbothred.

I glared at him, my eyes digging an imaginary six feet for him. Ian took my hand, and then in the blink of an eye, we were gone.

He had just used his flash – like powers with me. My head was spinning and I wanted to vomit.

“It’s better you get used to it.”

My head snapped up and I realized we were in a room. Sophia was sitting on the window sill, staring at me with blank eyes. She looked me over and looked outside again, as if I wasn’t here.

“Sophie,”I breathed out, excited to see her but it didn’t seem like she was excited to see me. I gulped, not knowing what to think or do. She wasn’t even looking at me.

“You shouldn’t be around me,” she said flatly.

“Sophie I—”

“Go away,” she added flatly. My heart dropped instantly. This wasn’t what I was expecting.

“Sophie, are you okay?” I asked slowly even if it seemed like a very stupid question to be asking.

“Am I okay?” She repeated slowly, turning her head to me in a robotic manner that creeped me out. “No, Jenny. I’m not okay. I can hear your blood running through your veins. And right now, all I want is to rip your throat out and drain you of your blood.”

I paled instantly, taking a step back.

“So it’ll be better if you leave me alone,” she added flatly looking out of the window once again.

There was a huge, painful lump in my throat which I swallowed. My best friend bad changed. This was not the Sophia I knew anymore. She had been replaced with someone else.

I exhaled deeply and turned away from her, blinking back my tears. Ian looked at me with pity but I just shook my head and glared at him. He was the cause of all these.

I walked back to the guestroom and rushed to my phone as I saw that it was ringing. That was Sophia’s mom calling. Fuck.

I picked up the phone and cleared my throat before answering the call.

“Jenny sweetie! I’ve been trying to reach Sophia for hours now. Is she okay?” Her mom asked in concern, skipping all forms of greeting which was weird for her. She was really worried about Sophia.

How could I tell her that her daughter was dead?

I gulped, rubbing my face and sighed. The lies came to my tongue easily. “She lost her phone, and she has a migraine so she’s resting right now. We’re getting a new phone when she gets better.”

“Oh,” her mother answered, seeming just a bit relieved. “How did she loose her phone?”

“It was stolen,” I lied. “But don’t worry, she’s fine.”

“Tell her I want to speak to her when she’s better,” her mom said.

“Sure, Mrs Anderson,” I replied, nodding my head even though she couldn’t hear me.

I rubbed my face and hung up on her, dropping the phone on the table and plopping down on the bed.

Everything was fucked up now.
