Sophia’s POV
I stared at the calender, calculating in my head when school was going to start and how I was going to manage to cope around that much humans. I tried to understand but I didn’t think I would be able to stand being around much humans without attacking one and revealing that there are vampires amongst the humans.
I ran my hands through my hair and huffed. I was getting crankier day by day. I didn’t know why. Oh wait, I did. It was because Ian was trying to test how much I could go without blood. And I had locked myself in the room in reply. I didn’t do that in retaliation, I did that because if I stayed around Jenny, I might just find myself trading her throat out.
I was getting used to being around her and controlling myself but I didn’t want to test the limit. She was still very tempting.
I looked away from the calender hanging on the wall and closed my eyes, preparing myself to sleep. Sleeping was something I barely did since I turned into one of them, but once in a while, it helped calm me down. It reminded me of what it felt like to be human, to have my mind and my body relax when I was sleeping.
I grabbed the huge teddy that was sitting upright on the bed and then I hugged it, shutting my eyes close tightly and taking deep breaths so I could fall asleep easily.
I was almost deep in sleep when my nose scented it. Blood. There was blood somewhere around here. Somewhere close to here. And then I began to hear the near silent footsteps of someone. But no heartbeat.
There was only one person that walked like that. I had learned to study everyone’s footsteps and Ian was the one who had this silent kind of walking. He was the one walking to my room.
I for wed and closed my eyes, turning around on the bed. I was still mad at him. For the past two days that I had locked myself in this room, he hadn’t even tried to come checko up on me and talked to me. Did that mean that his love for me was waning because I was now a vampire, not the vulnerable human girl he fell in love with?
Well it wasn’t my fault that I was now a vampire. Most of the fault went to him. For marking me without my permission and unconsciously putting a target on my back. And then putting blood in the tea he served me.
But I wasn’t blaming him. I had even forgiven him, as weird as that sounded. I had more to think of than to keep holding a grudge on him. And as much as I bared to admit it, I was still very much in love with him. Even though I shouldn’t be loving him. Not after everything.
But then I remembered Mike telling me that as a vampire, my emotions are heightened. I guess that meant that my love for him only grew stronger. I had always lived him anyways.
The footsteps finally stopped in front of my door and Ian knocked. I remained quiet. I wasn’t ready to talk to him. Afterall, he had ignored me for two days straight and I was intent on doing the same.
And there was no way he could get into the room. It’s either he kicked down the door or he left. He didn’t have much of a choice.
He knocked once again and I kept quiet.
“Soph, I know you’re awake,” he called out at last. “I know you’re in there and you can hear me. Come open the door,” he said and I just narrowed my eyes. Bold of him to think I’d just do whatever he wanted because he asked that of me.
“Hey,” he murmured softly when I didn’t answer him again. “Come on. Come open the door, Sophia.”
I pursed my lips and rolled my eyes. I wasn’t ready to give him what he wanted. After a few minutes, I heard the sound of a key and then the lock began to turn. The door pushed open and Ian was standing there, a tray containing food and a class cup containing red liquid. My nostrils flared. Blood.
“Sophia,” he said with a sigh, his eyes narrowing on me. Everything in my body was screaming at me to go to him. To get the blood from him. But I wasn’t going to. I was hell bent on proving that I was stubborn.
“I know you’re hungry,” he added and I narrowed my eyes at him. What did he think, starving me for two days? I wouldn’t be hungry?
“Get out,” I snapped at him.
“No,” he answered.
“I wasn’t asking,” I deadpanned. “Get out.”
“I’m not leaving, Sophia. Do your worst. But I’m not leaving,” he answered with a sigh like he was tired of me.
Tears welled up in my eyes and I pouted. I still hadn’t gotten used to this, my emotions switching withing the blink of an eye all the time.
I turned away from him and hugged the teddy tighter.
“What is it again, Sophia?” He asked, dropping the food on a table and coming to me.
“You’re tired of me,” I murmured with a shaky voice while his fingers touched my chin lightly and pulled gently so I was looking at him.
“What? No of course not. I’m not tired of you, Sophia. Why would I?” He asked, his eyes searching mine.
“Because…Because I’m not human,” I answered. “I’m not human and the girl you fell in love with was an human girl, not a vampire. I’m not the girl you fell in love with.”
He sighed and shook his head. “You are the girl I fell in love with, Sophia. I still love you,” he assured me.
I shook my head with a pout. “You don’t. You haven’t spoken to me for two days,” I reminded him.
“That’s because I was so busy taking care of what Jacob light to have taken care of. Issues of the realm,” he clarified. “I was so frustrated and I didn’t want to put that on you.”
He rubbed my cheeks affectionately and I smiled slowly. “You love me?”
“Of course I do,” he breathed out and kissed my forehead. “I don’t want you to ever think that I don’t. Right now, I’m so busy, I just don’t want to transfer aggression on you. Okay? I love you. You don’t have to think that I don’t,” he assured me.
I nodded with a smile and he kissed my forehead one more time then got up from the bed, walking to the table where he had dropped the tray of food. “Now let’s get you to eat something.”
“Did I do well?” I asked.
“Of course you did,” he answered and kissed my cheek as he dropped the tray on my lap. “You did well. You lasted longer than I expected and I’m proud of you.”
Red creeped up my cheeks. “And also, I won’t do that again. I promise.”
I nodded and dug into the meal. It didn’t take long for me to finish it and gulp down the glass of blood. I suddenly felt better and refreshed. I felt better than I had been the past few days.
I sighed and he kissed my hair before picking up the tray and getting up.
“You and Jenny have to go to the house and settle in,” he said and I frowned.
“The house?”
“Yeah, you know, the one Jenny’s dad bought for you both?” He reminded me. “You need to go there with Jenny and settle in. It’s almost resumption and it’ll be better if.you start settling now.”
“What if I don’t want to go? Why can’t I just stay here with you?” I asked with a pout.
“You can’t. I’m leaving soon,” he answered.
“Leaving?” I squeaked out.
“Not like that,” he shook his head. “Of course I’ll come back but I need to straighten things out in the realm for a few days, or weeks, or months.”
“Months!” I repeated, my eyes wide in horror.
“I’ll be back. You know I’ll be back,” he assured me. “Okay? Don’t get yourself scared.”
“What if people start attacking me again? And Jenny?” I asked in fear.
“You and I still have a lot of time to spend together before I go. I’m going to train you to defend yourself. Jacob, Mike and I will train you. So when we leave, you’ll be able to defend yourself no matter what. Okay?”
I nodded gently. “Okay.”
“Good,” he answered and kissed my forehead. “I’ll have the car ready and we’ll leave. And you need to pack up too.”
“Can’t we do that tomorrow?” I asked with a pout.
“No. It’s better you do it today and just use tomorrow to relax and get familiar with the place. I’m going to leave you to pack up,” he answered as he got up from the bed and left with the tray.
