The images of Shanaya in that inappropriate position were still fresh in my mind as I entered the mansion. But as soon as I stepped inside, I was met with the sight of Shanaya standing in front of me, completely different from the girl I had seen earlier.

How was this possible? If that girl had been Shanaya, there was no way she could have gotten back home this quickly, but here she was, standing in front of me, looking completely changed.

"You came!" she chirped, and for a moment, I was taken aback. I managed to force a smile.

I nodded.

"You know, I was getting so bored today," she continued, "since Aviyaan went to the office."

"Didn't you go meet your friend?" I asked, still trying to piece together what was going on.

She nodded calmly, her demeanor as relaxed as always. "I was, but then I came back. I've been bored for the past two hours."

Two hours?

Confusion swirled in my mind. There was no way she could have been at home earlier, but the girl I saw looked exactly like her. How could I be so sure? I didn't have any proof, just my own assumptions.

"Shanaya, if you'll excuse me, I need to change," I said, my tone polite but tinged with uncertainty.

She nodded, and I quickly made my way to my room, my mind still racing. I felt exhausted, mentally and physically, but I knew I needed to freshen up before I could think straight. After a quick shower, I went downstairs to grab something to eat, though my mind was far from focused on food.

I couldn't shake off the nagging feeling that something was off. That girl had looked so much like Shanaya-had I mistaken someone else for her?

I ate my lunch, already served by my mom, but I couldn't bring myself to enjoy it.

"I need to tell all of this to Anaya," I muttered to myself, my thoughts still spiraling. I quickly finished my meal and dashed upstairs to my room.

I dialed Anaya's number, my fingers trembling slightly as I waited for the call to connect. When she answered after three rings, I couldn't help but wonder what had taken her so long to pick up.

"What took you so long to answer?" I asked, my voice a mix of irritation and concern.

"I was in the washroom," Anaya replied casually. "Stop being so dramatic."

I rolled my eyes, but I couldn't help but chuckle at how effortlessly she could calm me down. Despite everything I was feeling, talking to Anaya always felt like a breath of fresh air.

"Okay, listen to this," I said, quickly explaining what had happened earlier.

"Woah," she responded, her voice filled with disbelief.

Tujhe yaqeen hai ke tu koi star plus seriel mein nahi hai? Ek twist khatam hota hai toh dusra ajata,"

"Are you sure you're not in the middle of some Star Plus drama? Every time one twist ends, another one starts!"

I laughed, despite myself. Anaya always had a way of lightening the mood, no matter how heavy the situation seemed.

"Do you think that girl could have been Shanaya?" I asked, still unsure of my own thoughts.

"To be honest?" Anaya sighed. "That Shanaya looks like a b!tch to me." she didn't like her at all,

I couldn't help but laugh again.

"I don't even know what Aviyaan sees in her," Anaya continued, her voice laced with disapproval. "She's got nothing going for her."

"She's beautiful," I pointed out, which is true, she is beautiful,

"Nah, you're way more beautiful," Anaya responded immediately, her voice firm.

I smiled at her unwavering confidence in me. "Maybe he thinks she's beautiful," I mused.

"If that's the case," she replied, "then he really has terrible taste."

I laughed harder this time, my heart feeling a little lighter.

"Alright, I've gotta go," Anaya said. "Call me if you need anything."

I hung up and sank into my bed, my mind still swirling with questions, but a part of me felt a little better.

The day passed in a blur. I tried to bury my thoughts in schoolwork, but they kept creeping back. No matter how much I tried to push them away, I couldn't escape the memories, the doubts.

I finished my assignments and sighed, deciding to skip dinner since I wasn't feeling particularly hungry. I changed into my nightdress, did my routine, and collapsed into bed, hoping that sleep would finally bring me some peace.

But as soon as I closed my eyes, the images of the past came rushing back-Aviyaan, Shanaya, and everything that had changed between us. I couldn't stop my mind from replaying it all.

Eventually, sleep claimed me, but it was restless and full of fragmented dreams.

The next morning, the blaring sound of my alarm jolted me awake. I quickly turned it off and stumbled to the bathroom to get ready for the day.

Downstairs, I made my way to the dining table. But before I could sit down, a voice interrupted me.

"Elaina," Shanaya called, approaching me with a plate of fruit.

"Here," she said, handing it to me with a bright smile. "I cut these for you."

There was something odd about her behavior today-she was being extra sweet, almost too sweet. But I didn't want to overthink it.

As I reached out to take the plate, Aviyaan's hand brushed against mine, and I lost my balance. The plate fell to the floor with a loud crash.

"What the hell?" Shanaya snapped, and I couldn't help but glance at her, then at Aviyaan, who stood there with his hand on her waist.

"Oh, sorry," he said, his voice dismissive. "I tripped on the carpet. I was just coming toward you."

Shanaya looked at him with a soft smile, but then her tone shifted. "I made those fruits for Elaina."

Aviyaan sighed, glancing over at me. "She's not a child, Shanaya. She can cut her own fruit."

My heart clenched. His words hit me like a slap. It was as if the past, the way he used to care for me, never existed.

I couldn't stand it anymore. The images of the past came rushing back-Aviyaan, the one I used to know, the one who used to care. But now, he seemed like a stranger.

I turned and walked away, heading straight for my room. I closed the door behind me, slumping against it as I sank to the floor.

The flashbacks wouldn't stop.

No matter how hard I tried to forget, they kept coming back. I couldn't deny it anymore. He wasn't the same Aviyaan. And I wasn't sure who I was anymore, either.

"Hoor, no, you don't know how to do this," he said, holding my hands in his.

"Avi, I want to try, but..." I said, trying to convince him to let me cut the fruit. He wouldn't let me, convinced I was too little and would hurt myself. Even though i'm 12.

"Okay," he finally let go of my hands, and I attempted to cut the apple. But I didn't know how, and my hand lost its balance. The knife cut into my skin, and a hiss of pain escaped my mouth. Instantly, he became alert.

He grabbed my hand and pulled me toward the wash basin. "I knew it. You're just a kid, Elaina. Why don't you ever listen to me?" he said, his voice full of frustration. He only called me by my full name when he was angry, I felt tears welling up in my eyes.

He looked at me, but his angry expression shifted to one of concern as he examined my hand.

"Does it hurt?" he asked, worry evident on his face.

I shook my head, trying to hide the sting. "No."

"Then why?" he pressed gently, his tone softening.

"You yelled at me," I replied, my voice barely above a whisper.

He sighed, his shoulders dropping in defeat. "I didn't yell at you, Hoor. I just... I just feel like I can't protect you. I can't even keep you safe," he explained -"And from now on, you won't touch a knife. Ever again." he said, his voice leaving no room for further argument.

I nodded quietly, "Okay."

He doesn't care about me anymore. Why am I even crying for him? He's nobody to me now. I should move on from, but it's hard it's hard to move on from someone you have loved since you have known the meaning of love, is it that easy for him to forget about me and het married to someone else,

I grabbed my bag and headed downstairs once more. As I approached the main door, I noticed him standing alone, perhaps on his way to the office. Just as I was about to walk past him, his voice halted my steps.

"You are not going to university today," he stated.

I raised an eyebrow, my tone firm. "Excuse me?"

"I said you're not going anywhere today," he repeated, his voice authoritative.

I scoffed, trying to keep my anger in check. "And who are you to dictate what I do?"

He hesitated, his voice laced with uncertainty. "A... family member."

I retorted, my anger boiling over. "You're not my family. You're no one to me. Don't think that just because I loved you before, I'll obey you like a submissive fool. You understand? You're nothing to me, so keep your nose out of my business."

His expression softened for a fleeting moment, and I glimpsed a flicker of hurt. But it vanished as quickly as it appeared.

I turned to leave, but Aviyaan's firm voice halted me once more. "You're not going anywhere, Elaina," he said, his tone loud and resolute.

I spun around, my frustration boiling over. "But why?" I shouted, my voice cracking with exasperation. "What's going on?"

Aadhav uncle intervened, his calm tone a stark contrast to the tension between Aviyaan and me. "Why are you stopping her from going to university, Aviyaan?"

Aviyaan's expression turned grave. "Papa, I read today's newspaper. There are kidnappers on the loose, escaped from jail. Until they're caught, it's our responsibility to protect our family members."

Aadhav uncle's eyes locked onto mine, filled with concern. "Elaina beta, he's right. It's not safe for you to venture out today."

I sighed, nodded feeling trapped and frustrated. I rushed back towards my room, muttering under my breath, "This is ridiculous,"

As I slammed the door shut, my anger increasing. "What the hell just happened?" I growled, "Who does he think he is, dictating my life?"
