Nakul's POV:
I was filled with pride and joy for jyesth bhrata Yudhishthira. His success was not just his own, but ours as well. As I stood there, my eyes wandered to the crowd, where I noticed a girl who seemed even happier than I was. She was cheering so loudly for Bhrata Yudhishthira that it made me pause for a moment. But there was no time to think about that now. It was time to go and congratulate him.
The four of us made our way to Yudhishthira and embraced him in a perfect group hug. Mata stood nearby, her eyes gleaming with pride, having already blessed Bhratashri.
Bhrata Bheema couldn't hold back his excitement and declared, "माताश्री, आज इस बात के आनंद में 100-200 लड्डू बनवा दीजिए।" ("Mother, in celebration of this event, please have 100-200 laddoos made today!")
We all exchanged amused glances. No matter what the occasion, Bhrata Bheema always managed to bring food into the conversation. Arjuna, ever the witty one, grinned and said, "ये 100-200 अपने लिए बोल रहे हैं या इन्हें खाने का अवसर हमें भी प्राप्त होगा, भ्राताश्री?" ("Are you asking for these 100-200 laddoos just for yourself, or will we even get a chance to eat them, dear brother?")
I laughed and added, "हमें खाने का अवसर नहीं मिलेगा, भ्राताश्री।" ("We won't get the chance to eat them, dear brother.")
Mata smiled at our playful banter. "लड्डू क्यों पुत्रों? मैंने तो लड्डू के साथ-साथ खीर और अन्य पकवान भी बनाए हैं। चलो, खा लो।" ("Why just laddoos, sons? I have made kheer and other dishes along with the laddoos. Come, eat.")
Hearing this, our faces lit up, and we all made our way to Mata's chamber. The spread was as delightful as it was delicious, and soon enough, we were all filled with the sumptuous feast-everyone except Bhrata Bheema, of course, who was still eating.
I stood up, feeling satisfied, and remarked, "भ्राता भीम, अब बस कीजिए। क्या आप पूरे हफ्ते का खाना एक ही दिन में खा लेंगे?" ("Brother Bheema, enough now. Are you planning to eat a week's worth of food in one day?")
Arjuna chuckled. "मुझे तो ऐसा ही लगता है, अनुज।" ("That's what it looks like to me, younger brother.")
Bheema shot us a look but didn't respond. He was too engrossed in his meal to pay us any more attention.
**Author's POV**
Nakul smiled to himself as he left to get dressed. After a while, he returned, now clad in the simple attire of a trader. Standing before the mirror, he carefully combed his hair, admiring his own features with a touch of pride.
Bheema, noticing this, couldn't help but tease him. "कितना अपने आप को संवारोगे, नकुल? इतनी तो कोई राजकुमारी भी स्वयं को नहीं संवारती होगी।" ("How much will you groom yourself, Nakul? Even a princess wouldn't spend this much time getting ready!")
Nakul, still running the comb through his hair, replied with a smirk, "सुंदरता के लिए मेहनत करनी पड़ती है, भैया। आपको तो यह समझ ही नहीं आएगा।" ("One has to put in effort for beauty, brother. You wouldn't understand that.")
Bheema laughed heartily. "ठीक है, सुंदरता! तुम अपने आप को चमकाते रहो। तब तक मैं चौथी बार खीर खा लेता हूँ।" ("Alright, 'beauty'! You keep shining yourself up while I go eat kheer for the fourth time.")
Nakul rolled his eyes, unable to hide his grin, as Bheema continued enjoying his endless feast.---
Nakul stood in front of the mirror, carefully combing his hair, admiring his own reflection. His fingers moved with practiced grace, making sure every strand fell perfectly in place. Just as he was lost in the admiration of his own features, Yudhishthira approached him from behind.
"Kahin ja rahe ho, अनुज?" ("Going somewhere, younger brother?") Yudhishthira inquired, his voice calm yet curious.
Nakul turned slightly, a small smile playing on his lips. "Ji, भ्राताश्री, नगर भ्रमण के लिए जा रहा हूँ। इसी बहाने आपके युवराज बनने के अवसर पर जो मेला आयोजित किया गया है, वो भी देख लूँगा।" ("Yes, brother, I am going for a stroll around the city. Also, I will take this opportunity to visit the fair organized in celebration of you becoming the crown prince.")
Yudhishthira nodded approvingly, his gaze warm. "ठीक है, जाओ।" ("Alright, go.")
With a slight bow of his head, Nakul made his way to Mata Kunti's chamber. She was seated gracefully, her eyes reflecting a sea of emotions. Nakul approached her and said, "आपके लिए कुछ लादूँ, माता, आते वक़्त?" ("Shall I bring you something, Mother, on my way back?")
Mata Kunti's lips curved into a gentle smile. "नहीं पुत्र, इस सफेद वस्त्र पे क्या शोभा पाएगा?" ("No, my son, what would suit these simple white clothes?") There was a brief silence, the mood growing a bit somber.
Sensing the change, Nakul moved closer to Mata and enveloped her in a hug. "मुझे पता है, माता, इन वस्त्रों पे क्या शोभा पायेगा। आप दुखी मत होइए, निश्चिंत रहिए।" ("I know, Mother, what would suit these clothes. Please don't be sad; rest assured.")
A glimmer of warmth returned to her eyes. She touched Nakul's head with affection, blessing him silently. With a nod, he left the chamber, ready for his journey. Outside, his horse, ताम्रपर्ण (Tamraparna), stood tall and majestic, awaiting him. Mounting gracefully, Nakul rode off toward the fair.
Meanwhile, on the other side of the city, Nisha and Adrika were feeling sluggish after indulging in the lavish feast at the bhandara organized for celebrating Yudhishthir's success. Nisha stretched and sighed, "चलो अच्छा हुआ, अभी हमें महल जाना नहीं पड़ा भोजन के लिए।" ("It's good that we didn't have to go to the palace for food right now.")
Adrika nodded enthusiastically. "अब खा ही लिया है तो चलो, मेला घूमते हैं। मुझसे रह नहीं जा रहा।" ("Now that we've eaten, let's explore the fair. I can't wait any longer.")
Nisha, who was sipping water from an earthen pot, nodded in agreement. Placing the pot back in its spot, she followed Adrika into the heart of the bustling fair. The market was alive with colors and sounds-food stalls, clothes, ornaments, and decorative items lined the way. Nisha's eyes sparkled with every little trinket, her mind contemplating the thought of buying them all. But her purse, devoid of any money, kept her desires in check.
As they wandered, a voice called out, "अरे देवियों, यहाँ आओ!" ("Hey, ladies, come here!") They turned around, exchanging confused glances, and approached a middle-aged woman who beckoned them.
"Tumhe nahi lagta tum ek अत्यंत महत्वपूर्ण आभूषण पहनना भूल गई हो?" ("Don't you think you've forgotten to wear a very important piece of jewelry?") the woman remarked, her gaze fixed on Nisha.
Adrika, curious, leaned in to listen. Realization struck them both at once. "चूड़ियाँ!" ("Bangles!") they exclaimed together.
Adrika slapped her forehead lightly. "अरे हाँ, तुम्हें चूड़ियाँ पहनाना तो भूल ही गई मैं।" ("Oh yes, I completely forgot to put bangles on you.") She turned to the woman, "अच्छा याद दिलाया आपने।" ("Thank you for reminding us.")
Nisha, catching on, chuckled. "याद इसलिए दिलाया क्योंकि इनका व्यापार हो," ("She reminded us because it's her business,") she pointed at the countless bangles spread before the woman.
Understanding dawned on Adrika, who made an 'oh' face. The clever woman took advantage of their interest. "अब आप लोग आ ही गई हैं तो कुछ ले ही लीजिए। ये सब आप पे खूब जचेंगी," ("Now that you are here, why don't you buy something? All these will suit you well,") she said, her eyes glinting with a shrewd smile.
Nisha laughed. "मेरे पास एक खरीदने के भी पैसे नहीं, और आप सब लेने की बात कर रही हैं। फिर भी देख लेती हूँ।" ("I don't have enough money to buy even one, and you're talking about taking them all. Still, let me have a look.") Her eyes scanned the assortment until they fell on a navy blue bangle with a golden design shining brightly amidst the collection. Her eyes gleamed with desire as she asked, "ये कितने रुपयों के हैं?" ("How much do these cost?")
Both Adrika and the woman looked at her, puzzled. "रुपये?" ("Rupees?") they echoed, unfamiliar with the term from the future.
Nisha quickly corrected herself, "मुद्राएँ, मुद्राएँ।" ("Coins, coins.")
The woman nodded knowingly. "15 स्वर्ण मुद्राएँ।" ("15 gold coins.")
Nisha and Adrika's jaws dropped at the price. Nisha quickly held the bangle in her hand and muttered, "तुम इतनी महँगी हो?" ("Are you this expensive?") She turned to the woman, "आप इसका दाम कम करके 10 स्वर्ण मुद्राएँ नहीं कर सकतीं?" ("Can't you lower the price to 10 gold coins?") Thus began the bargaining.
The woman's smile faded, replaced by a stubborn look. "नहीं।" ("No.")
Nisha persisted. "देखिए, आप इसका भाव ज्यादा बता रही हैं। ऐसी चूड़ियाँ कई दुकानों में मिल जाएंगी।" ("Look, you're quoting a high price. These bangles can be found at many other shops.")
In response, the woman snatched the bangle from Nisha's hand. "हाँ तो देविजी, इसे खरीदने वाले भी मुझे बहुत मिल जाएंगे।" ("Yes, madam, there are many others who will buy it.")
Adrika grabbed Nisha's arm and dragged her away before she could retort. "कितनी पागल औरत थी वो! अच्छे से भी तो बोल सकती थी," ("What a crazy woman! She could have spoken nicely,") Nisha fumed.
Adrika patted her back. "कोई बात नहीं। हम दूसरे दुकान चलते हैं," ("No worries. Let's go to another shop,") she said, trying to lighten the mood. Nisha sighed and nodded, allowing herself to be led away.
Nakul's POV:
As I entered the mela, I was greeted with praises for Jyestha Bhratashri. Everywhere I went, people spoke of his intelligence and his deep sense of justice. Indeed, he is Dharmaraj. A proud smile spread across my face as I roamed through the fair, soaking in the joyous atmosphere.
Suddenly, a voice caught my attention. "आप इसका दाम कम करके 10 स्वर्ण मुद्राएँ नहीं कर सकतीं?" ("Can't you lower the price to 10 gold coins?") My ears perked up. I recognized the voice instantly-it was the same woman who had cheered so loudly for Bhratashri in the Raj Sabha. I turned and saw her. She was wearing a beautiful saree, perfectly draped. I watched as she haggled with the bangle seller, saying, "देखिए, आप इसका भाव ज्यादा बता रही हैं। ऐसी चूड़ियाँ कई दुकानों में मिल जाएंगी।" ("Look, you're quoting a high price. These bangles can be found at many other shops.")
"हे भगवान!" ("Oh God!") I thought to myself. "ये औरतें और इनका मोल-भाव करने के प्रति प्यार कभी कम नहीं होगा।" ("These women and their love for bargaining will never cease.")
A small smile crept onto my lips as I saw her friend drag her away, leaving the bangle seller flustered. I decided to intervene. Approaching the lady, I took off my turban, which I had worn to blend in as a civilian, and retrieved 15 gold coins from within its folds. "वो चूड़ियाँ दीजिए," ("Give me those bangles,") I said, handing over the coins. The woman beamed, wrapping the bangle in a leaf before handing it to me.
I looked around for the girl, walking in the direction she had gone, but she was nowhere to be found. With a sigh, I glanced at the bangle in my hand. "Even if I find her, would she take this from me? No, I am just a stranger to her," I thought.
Shrugging off the uncertainty, I bought another pair of pure gold bangles for Mata from a nearby shop and headed back to the palace with ताम्रपर्ण (Tamraparna).
Author's POV:
Nisha and Adrika, after thoroughly exploring every corner of the fair, returned to the entrance. Nisha's eyes wandered to the bangle shop once again. It was still filled with bangles, but the one she liked was missing. She sighed and, like every other girl, thought to herself, "खरीद लेती तो अच्छा होता शायद।"{Maybe it would have been better if you had bought it."}
With that, they turned back, heading towards their room after a long, eventful day.
