After my adrenaline had worn off and my mind was clear again after burning Kieran's body to a crisp, I realized that maybe I had taken things too far and Verena probably was right about there being more than one party involved with my mother's death.
Hours passed and Verena did not come downstairs to have dinner with me, which I was not happy at all about. I attempted to go upstairs to talk with her about what happened earlier, but Arsenio told me to just give Verena some space.
"I think you need to give Verena some time to sort out of her feelings", Arsenio leaned against the stairwell as he watched me walk up the steps leading down the path to Verena's bedroom.
I stop in my tracks on one of the middle steps and look back at Arsenio as if he lost his mind, telling me to lay off bothering Verena.
"I think I have given her more than enough space". I was growing pissed at everyone telling me how I should handle my damn wife like I was incapable of handling her. I contemplate for a moment if I should ignore everything Arsenio just told me or barge my way inside Verena's room.
Knowing how she reacted earlier, probably would not be best if she saw me again, so I took Arsenio's advice and gave Verena some space for two entire days.
I barely could get any sleep because all I kept pondering about was Verena's words: I hate you, this is why I contemplate divorcing you. Although I did not show it at that moment when Verena spoke those words out to me during our spat in the basement, it played over and over again in my head like a broken record.
I knew I was a monster, but hearing my wife tell me that just did not sit right with me. I had to do something so she could stop being mad at me. My skin tingles as an idea pops up suddenly in my mind. I quickly reach for my phone and make a couple of phone calls. Two days later, I am walking up the steps with a load of gifts on each side of my arms.
The right of my arms is filled with Verena's favorite food: popcorn with warm caramel sauce, a greasy grilled hamburger with seasoned fries from Sammy's Burgers, and a cotton candy milkshake from Trevor's Steakhouse. On the left side of my arm, I am holding a bouquet of red roses, a box with a Cartier tennis bracelet, three designer bags from the Chanel store, and Creed Les Royales Vanilla Perfume.
There was no way Verena would turn down my peace offering, she always was happy with the gifts I have given her over the years. Zolani walks down the hallway, reading a book, and takes notice of the gifts in my arms. She then smiles as she walks over to me, "Don't you think this is a little too much Eryx. I am not sure if Verena wants to see you right now".
I shake my head and smile at Zolani with confidence. "I think I know my wife. She can't stay mad at me for long..not when I went out and bought all of her favorite things". Zolani takes a closer look at all of the items in my hand before she shakes her head. "If you say so Eryx. Don't say I did not try to warn you though".
Zolani then walks down the hallway, leaving me alone as I stand in front of Verena's bedroom door. I suddenly feel nervous, like how I did the night I attempted to take Verena out for a romantic dinner. I have not felt this way in so long, it startles me, but then I realize how much I am still in love with my wife and would give her the world if she would stop trying to run from me.
I then knock on the door, not too hard to not startle Verena.
I hear hear shuffling behind the door. "I know it's you Eryx, please leave me alone. I don't want to talk to you". Verena's soft, sultry voice belts out against the doorframe.
"Verena, baby let's talk about this", I then try to open the door and shift the weight of the gifts in my right hand. But as soon as my hand touches the door, Verena has already managed to lock it.
I grit my teeth in frustration. "Damnit, Verena. I am sorry about what happened the other night just let me in Cherie". I lean my head against the door, trying to hear Verena, but her footsteps move away from the door.
I'm not sure how long I stay by the door, but I become annoyed and decide to pry the door open with my pocketknife.
It takes me a couple of tries before I manage to get the door open as Verena is sitting against the windowsill with a Billionaire Club hoodie covering her body she glares over at me as I walk inside of the bedroom before closing the door with my foot.
"I thought I told you I did not want to talk to you Eryx". Her sienna eyes are darkened and a frown covers her face as her back is leaned against the wall. I am not used to Verena holding grudges with me, being that for most of our marriage, we always settle our issues rarely quickly, but since I brought Verena back from Fountain View it is as if everything that I do is a problem for her.
"Cherie, please forgive me for what happened the other night. I should have handle things differently. I brought you some gifts", I then place all of the gifts on her queen-sized bed as she shifts her eyes to the designer bags and roses that are not lying on top of her white comforter. I then place the food next to her legs and back away from her as she continues to frown at me.
We have a staring match for several moments before she gets up from her seat and stands in front of the edge of her bed, her eyes shift down to look at the expensive gifts I have purchased for her at some of her favorite stores she likes to shop at.
Rather than open the boxes to see what I purchased her, she surprises me by doing the complete opposite, she places the six bags lying on her bed in her hand as she balances it before she walks back over to where she was recently sitting against the windowsill.
She manages to push open the window door handle, letting the crisp warm air inside of the room before she throws the expensive bags off the ledge. "What the fuck did you do that for", I then run over to see that the gifts are now floating in the pool below. Verena then reaches for her vanilla milkshake as she takes a sip of it and she bats her eyelashes at me.
"I told you I did not want to be bothered with you. Do me a favor and get the fuck out of my room". I am livid that Verena thinks this little stunt she just pulled is funny.
"I was trying to apologize to you, but as seems like you want to act like a fucking child". Verena rolls her eyes at me and then pops a popcorn kernel in her mouth.
"I do not care what you were trying to do. Buying me gifts might have worked in your favor a long time ago, but I am not that Verena anymore, sweetheart. "Now. Get. Out. Of. My. Room!!!".
I open my mouth to argue back, but I see Zyran has sent me a text alerting me that I need to come to the Arsenal base. I groan with irritation in my voice, now that I have to leave.
"This is far from over Verena. I have to leave to do some business. I will be back".
Verena has completely ignored me now as she is consuming her hamburger and fries her attention has shifted from paying me any attention to her main focus right now is eating.
I watch her one last time before I walk out of her room.
I punch my fist against the wall in frustration before I make a call to the pilot urging him to get the private jet ready for me so that I can depart in a few minutes.
Side note: Omg, Verena is not playing with Eryx whatsoever. Throwing the gifts in the pool was intentional on her end and she is far from being done with getting a rise out of Eryx. I wonder what Verena is going to do next.
