AEGIS'S P.O.V
"Get Up Now."
The most high-pitched and panicked scream I've ever heard ripped through the house, I bolted from my office ready to fight. I raced into the kitchen, expecting to see blood, someone dying, an intruder---anything but the three men frozen in place jointly staring at a spot on the floor.
Ladies and Gentlemen, My Council.
"What is it?” I demanded. Noah, Zach, and Emery turned to me with wide eyes pale faces. Noah pointed a shaking finger toward the counter.
“A spider,” he whispered. I stared at them. Three of the strongest wolves I’d ever met and personally trained, standing like children in front of a bug. A Beta, Gamma and Delta to be exact.
“A spider?” I repeated incredulously. “It’s huge,” Zach said defensively, as if that excused the situation. I looked at the tiny creature crawling across the countertop. “You want me to kill it?”
“Please,” Emery begged. I crossed my arms. “None of you can do it?” They all shook their heads. “You’re supposed to be warriors,” I deadpan. “You face enemies twice your size, but a tiny spider has you cowering?” Noah growled lowly, clearly embarrassed. "This is different.”
Rolling my eyes, I grabbed an empty glass and trapped the spider. I could feel their stares as I slid a piece of paper underneath and carried it outside. Releasing it into the garden, I turned back to them. “You’re doing twice the weight in training tomorrow,” I said as I re-entered the kitchen. “If you’re this afraid of a spider, I’m clearly not pushing you hard enough.” They groaned in unison, but I caught the laughter in their voices. “Alpha, have mercy,” Emery pleaded. I smirked. “You want mercy? Learn to deal with a bug.”
"Now if we're done here,we have a meeting to get to."
They stared at me, stunned. “What?” I asked. Noah shook his head, a slow grin spreading across his face. “You made a joke.” I blinked. “So?”
“You never joke,” Zach said. “Ever.” I shrugged, but I felt the corners of my lips twitch.
"Well here's another joke from you, If I get to that boardroom before you, I'll personally make sure you have no feeling in your legs after tomorrow's practice." They ran so fast , they tumbled each other on the way.
It's been two years since I became Alpha. Two years of proving myself and earning the loyalty of this pack. They respected me, they followed me, but I kept my distance. Except for these three—Noah, Zach, and Emery. My Beta, Gamma, and Delta. We weren’t just a team. We were family.
We finally settled down in the boardroom, pouring over pack finances and patrol schedules. The mood was light in and out as we worked with jokes flying across the table. “You can’t count, Emery,” Zach said, shaking his head. “That’s why we’re short on supplies.”
“No, we’re short because You keeps eating everything with your pregnant whale looking ass,” Emery shot back. “Hey!” Noah barked, glaring at him. “I’ve been cutting back.”
I leaned back in my chair, watching them bicker. It was moments like these that made everything bearable. The door opened, and Brianna stepped in. “Enough work,” she said, her voice firm. “You all need a break.” Noah groaned. “We’re fine, Alpha Brianna.”
“Former Alpha,” she corrected with a smirk. We chuckled softly. Even I couldn’t help the small smile that tugged at my lips. “What’s the update on the rogue pack?” she asked more seriously now.
"Danny’s working on it,” Emery replied. “He’s been feeding us intel, but it’s slow.” As if on cue, my phone buzzed. I glanced at the screen. “Speak of the devil, it’s Danny.” The room went silent as I answered.
"What do you have?”
“Got a location,” he said.
“They’re camped out near the river. About a dozen of them, heavily armed.”
“We’ll handle it,” I said, ending the call. Noah clapped his hands together like a child. “Ohhh dead rogues, Me Likey."
We geared up quickly, banter flew back and forth as we strapped on our weapons. “Emery, your armor’s on backward,” Noah teased.
“Just like your tiny pig brain, you idiot.” Emery muttered, fumbling with the straps. I stayed quiet, observing. My chest tightened as I watched them. They were my family, my responsibility. I didn’t say it often, but they knew how much they meant to me.
Zach was quieter than usual. I mind-linked him. "Are you okay?"
"I’m fine," he replied.
"Just restless."
"You can stay behind if you need to."
"No way," he said firmly. "I’m coming." I nodded, even though he couldn’t see me.
---The fight was brutal but mostly one-sided. We took the rogues by surprise.
"Kill anyone who resists."
The battlefield was a chaos of snarling wolves, clashing claws, the scent of blood thick in the air. I fought with precision and efficient movements. Every strike was calculated, every kill quick. Lord don't you just love my life.
But then i felt it. Something was wrong. “Zach,” I called through the link. No answer. Panic surged in my chest. I scanned the battlefield, my eyes darting frantically. I found him at the edge of the clearing. He stood frozen with female rogue with a raised sword in front of him. “Zach,” I yelled running to him.
He turned with a weird look on his face.“Don’t come closer.”
“What are you doing?” I asked, my voice sharp. "Kill the rogue."
“ I can't,” he cried. "She's my mate.”
Fvxcj Shit.
