Aegis's P.o.v

I hate paperwork.

I mean, I really, really hate paperwork.

If I’d known being Alpha involved signing my soul away to endless reports, requests, and financial breakdowns, I would have let Brianna keep the damn title.

I tapped my half chewed pen as I glare at the towering stack of documents. Yes I chewed the to part off but you can't exactly blame me. I tried to focus. I really did. But after five minutes, my brain starts to feel like it’s melting.

I groan, dragging my hands down my face. "This is actual torture." With a dramatic sigh, I slam my head onto the desk. Maybe if I knock myself unconscious, I can get out of this.

Or…

A slow grin spreads across my face. I mind-link Noah. Hi, lovely Beta Noah.

A pause.

Then, "Yesss?"

"I need some help."

"No."

I gasp. "Noo? But I didn’t even say with what!"

"You don’t have to. If it’s paperwork, the answer is no."

I whine. "Noah, please. It’s so much. My brain is rotting."

"Nope."

"But..." The mind-link cuts off. I blink. Then scowl.

"That little mutt." I slam my head against the table again, groaning even louder.

That’s when the door opens.

"Aegis I need you to....Are you okay?" Alpha Brianna’s voice asked cautiously. I lift my head with my cheek still smushed against the desk. "No. I’m dying."

She crosses her arms. "From what?" I motion a weak finger at the papers. She raises a brow.

"That’s the best part of being Alpha." I sit up quickly horrified. "What?!"

"It lets you think," she says matter-of-factly. "Plan. Build." I stare at her like she’s grown two heads.

Then I get an idea. A very brilliant idea.

Brianna eyes me warily. "No." I clasp my hands together. "Please?"

"No."

"Brianna, *please*?"

"Noo." I sniff dramatically . "You’re the one who put me here! I never wanted to be Alpha in the first place!" She sighs. I go in for the kill. Big, round, puppy dog eyes. "Pleeeaase, Mummy?"

Brianna groans and I know I've gotten her. "You could really make a lot of money off that face instead of threatening people."

I grin. "So, you’ll do it?" She mutters under her breath but sits in my chair. I jump up. "You’re the best! And while you do that, I’ll go do something funner."

"Funner isn’t a word." I grin. "It is if I say it is." "You can’t just make up words."

I flip my hair. "I’m Alpha. I can do anything."

"Except paperwork."

"Exactly!" She shakes her head equally amused. "You seem in a good mood. Where are you rushing off to? Is it a man? Pleeeaasee tell me it's a man."

I laugh. "Sometimes it’s like you don’t know me at all." Her brows lift. "Then what is it?"

I smirk. "The patrol caught a rogue. One we’ve been hunting for three weeks."

Brianna’s face falls and she rolls her eyes. "Of course it's torture. Why am I even surprised?"

I shrug. "I’ve got new methods to try." She sighs.

"Aegis, you need a man. I want grandbabies."

I wrinkle my nose. "No, thanks."

"You just haven’t met the one." She’s still rambling about setting me up with some friend’s son when I slip out.

In my way down, I mindlink the boys to meet me there. This ought to be fun.

The scent of blood and sweat clung to the air. The rogue is strapped to the chair, breathing heavily from the beatings he'd received from the patrols.

His face is already bruised. Dried blood crusts his nose. I smile. "Hello, sunshine." He glares at me.

"You sick Bitch." I tilt my head.

"And yet, you’re the one tied up."

Noah, Zach, and Emery come into the room and stand off to the side. Noah sighs. "Let’s get this over with."

I crack my knuckles. "Don’t be so boring, Beta."

The rogue spits at my feet. "You’ll get nothing from me." I smile sweetly. "Oh, sweetheart. You will talk. I promise you." And then I begin.

The knife slices through his skin easily and he didn't expect it. He screams. I tilt my head. "That was just the first layer. Shall we go deeper?" He trembles, but his lips remain shut. I sigh. "Fine. We’ll make this fun."

I grab a thin, silver needle and hold it up. "Ever heard of nerve injections?" Zach looks pale already. I slide the needle under his fingernail. The rogue thrashes. I inject. A strangled scream rips from his throat. "That’s a special serum. One of my own special babies." I say conversationally. "Right now it feels like your nerves are slowly melting."

His body convulses. His veins turn black. He starts babbling. Begging. I lean in. "Where’s the elder rogue?" He whimpers. "I...I don’t know..."

I press another needle into his thigh. He chokes. "W-Woods! The abandoned chapel!" I grin.

"See? That wasn’t so hard. Now was it?" The rogue sobs. I straighten and stretch. "Well, that’s enough for today."

The in a swift motions I slice across his neck and simultaneously poison his bloodstream with another poison, this one from my fingernails. The thing with this one is that they actually melt the nerve tissues like a wire. It was all too beautiful to watch the process of the nerves burning away connection by connection. Soon enough his head jumps away from his neck and rolls away hitting hard against the wall of the basement.

Zach makes a strangled sound. Then bolts for the corner and vomits. Noah and Emery are frozen and as white as ghosts. I beam at them. "That went well, don’t you think?"

Noah stares. "Do you realize that medically only a psychopath would be happy witg what just happened. It’s terrifying."

I shrug. "He deserved it."

Emery swallows. "You scare me."

I laugh. "Good." Then I step over the rogue’s broken body and walk out.
