Two weeks later

??: "Here you go, just sign here and here, and after that, you're all set."

Chilli: "So, all that's left is to sign these last two papers, and that's it, Doctor?"

Dr. Marcus: "Yep, just call me Doctor Marcus, Miss Chilli. As for young YN, he's a strong, beautiful baby boy. Aside from a few scratches from being in the alley, he's perfectly healthy."

The German Shepherd doctor passed Chilli some papers to sign while Rosie held YN.

Chilli: "That's good to hear."

She signed the last two papers and handed them back to Dr. Marcus.

Dr. Marcus: "Alright, everything checks out. Congratulations, you're legally YN's mother now. I should mention what baby formula to buy-"

Chilli: "Actually, we tried to feed him with a baby bottle, but every time the bottle gets close, he just slaps it away. He'll only drink from my mother's breasts, so baby formula won't work."

Dr. Marcus chuckled.

Dr. Marcus: "I've heard that before. How often is your mother at home? If he's only drinking breast milk, she'll need to be close by whenever he's hungry."

Rosie: "That's no problem. I'm home with him most of the time while Chilli works. He only nurses twice a day and sleeps for the rest."

Dr. Marcus: "Well, if that's the case, he should be fine. That wraps up our meeting today. If little YN needs anything, you can reach me using the number on his documents, alright?"

Chilli: "Alright, Dr. Marcus. Thanks for everything, especially for getting the adoption papers in order."

Chilli gathered her belongings and documents while Rosie picked up YN.

Dr. Marcus: "It's no problem. After you explained the situation, I knew I had to help. No child, human or not, should go through something like that."

Dr. Marcus opened the door for them as they left the office. They headed to Chilli's car, where she strapped YN into the new car seat she had bought the day after finding him.

Rosie: "Well, I guess that's it, right? Anything else before we head home?"

Chilli: "Yeah... I still need to stop by the courthouse to drop off these papers and pick up my divorce papers."

Rosie knew Chilli was still upset about what had happened with her ex-husband, Bandit, so she decided to lighten the mood.

Rosie: "Hey, after we leave the courthouse, how about we stop by the mall to pick up some things for YN's room? He can't sleep in your bed forever, you know."

YN giggled, as if understanding his grandmother, which made Chilli smile.

Chilli: "Sure, I was going to get his things sooner or later. Since we're already in town, we might as well do it today."

Rosie nodded and got into the car. Chilli sat in the driver's seat, and they drove to the courthouse. Ten minutes later, they arrived, and Chilli turned to her mother.

Chilli: "I'll only be in there for a few minutes. Will you be alright watching YN in the car?"

Rosie: "Of course! No problem. Besides, I'll probably need to nurse him soon anyway. Thank goodness your windows are tinted, so no creeps can see me breastfeeding my grandson."

Chilli: "Alright, I'll be back soon, Mom. See you in a bit, baby."

She rubbed YN's hair before closing the door and heading to the courthouse, leaving Rosie and YN in the car.

Rosie: "Looks like it's just you and me, YN."

She unbuckled him from his car seat, picked him up, and began to nurse him. Humming softly, she helped him fall asleep. Once YN was sound asleep, Rosie burped him, then placed him back in his car seat and buckled him in. Ten seconds later, Chilli returned, papers in hand, and got back into the car.

Chilli: "Alright, I got all the papers I need and- Mom?"

Rosie: "Yes, honey?"

Chilli: "Your breast is still hanging out."

Rosie looked down, chuckled, and put her breast back into her bra.

Rosie: "What were you saying before you got distracted, dear?"

Chilli: "Oh yeah, I signed the divorce papers, so we're all set. Now, let's head to the mall."

Rosie: "That's great. Also, YN just fell asleep, so let's try to keep things quiet. You know how he gets when he doesn't get his full nap."

Chilli: "I'd rather not remember that, Mom. But yeah, I'll keep quiet for him."

Chilli started the car and drove toward the mall, which was only five minutes away. During the drive, Rosie and Chilli talked about YN.

Chilli: "You know, Mom, I've noticed YN really likes you."

Rosie: "Well, I am his grandmother. Of course he likes me."

Chilli: "Yeah, but sometimes I think he likes you more than me."

Rosie: "Oh, honey, that's nonsense. He loves us equally. He just likes being around me because of the milk. Once he grows out of that, he'll come to you more."

Chilli: "Yeah, you're probably right. But your breast milk can't be that good, right?"

Rosie chuckled.

Rosie: "I don't know. Why don't you try some when we get home? You might enjoy it~"

She teased.

Chilli: "Nah, I'll stick to store-bought milk, thanks."

Rosie chuckled again.

Rosie: "More for YN then."

A few minutes later, they arrived at the mall. Chilli got out first, opened the back door, and unbuckled YN from his car seat. As she bent over, her backside was momentarily visible.

To ensure no one was watching her daughter get her grandson out of the car, Rosie stood in the way, blocking the view until Chilli was done and had YN, still sleeping, in her arms.

Chilli: "Alright, got him. Now, let's head inside."

Rosie nodded, and they both walked into the mall. Their first stop was the furniture store, where they started buying things for YN-teddy bears, baby monitors, blue paint, and more. After twenty minutes of shopping, they had everything they needed except for a baby crib. The ones they liked were too big to fit in the car, but a store clerk informed them that they offered home delivery. Chilli quickly ordered the crib to be delivered that same day. By the time everything was added up, the total came to $3,000 worth of baby supplies.

Chilli: "Oh my God! Baby stuff is so expensive."

Rosie: "I might have to go back to work at the airport just to support YN and you."

Chilli: "What? No way! I could never let you go back to work. Besides, you're too old for that. YN and I will be fine. It's already enough that I have to live with you again and take up your space."

Rosie: "Oh, hush. You're not a burden, and I'm not old. 48 is far from old, sweetheart. Now, let me help you pay for my grandson's things."

Rosie pulled out her wallet and handed the clerk $3,000 for the total.

Clerk: "Thank you, ma'am. The crib will be delivered around 3 PM today. Is there anything else?"

Chilli: "No, that's everything."

Chilli grabbed the rest of their purchases, and they headed into the main part of the mall. Rosie followed behind, still carrying a sleeping YN. After a moment, Chilli stopped and turned to her mother.

Chilli: "Hey, Mom, do you want to stop by the food court? I'm starving."

Rosie smiled.

Rosie: "Sure, honey. We've got time to spare."

They made their way to the food court, found an empty table, and sat down. Rosie was still holding YN in her arms.

Rosie: "Do you want him back?"

She offered to hand YN back to Chilli, but Chilli shook her head.

Chilli: "Nah, not really. My arms are tired after carrying all that stuff."

Rosie: "You know I could've helped, right?"

Chilli: "Nope, I wouldn't let you. Besides, who would've held YN if you were helping me?"

Rosie sighed.

Rosie: "You got me there, honey."

As they continued chatting, someone passing by noticed Chilli. They stopped, turned around, and spoke.

??: "Chilli?"

Chilli paused, looking up at the familiar voice. Standing before her was an old friend, another Australian woman.

Chilli: "Calypso?! It's been so long!"

Chilli stood up and hugged her.

Calypso: "I know! I've missed you too, Chilli."

Calypso then looked over at Rosie.

Rosie: "Long time no see, Calypso, dear. You look stunning as always."

Calypso: "Thanks, Ms. Rosie. You still look beautiful and young too."

Rosie chuckled.

Rosie: "You flatter me, Calypso. But what are you doing here? I thought you moved back to Australia. Now you're back in the U.S.?"

Chilli: "Yeah, I thought the same thing."

Calypso: "I did move back to Australia, but the animals and monsters there were enough to drive me back! And the spiders-ugh, too many spiders. So, I moved back here. Right now, I'm staying at a hotel until I find an apartment, but everything is so expensive."

As Calypso was talking, YN stirred in Rosie's arms, letting out a soft yawn. Calypso's eyes lit up as she noticed the baby for the first time.

Calypso: "Awww, who's this cute baby?"

She moved closer to Rosie for a better look.

Chilli: "He's mine. Isn't he a cutie?"

Chilli smiled warmly at her son.

Calypso: "He sure is! But wait... you had a baby with a human? What happened to Bandit? You two were so close!"

At the mention of Bandit, both Rosie and Chilli exchanged glances, their smiles fading.

Chilli: "Bandit and I aren't together anymore. His coworkers accused me of cheating, showing him fake photos of me with someone else. He believed them over me, so I left. And no, I didn't have a baby with a human. I found YN abandoned in a box in an alleyway, so I adopted him. He's my son now."

Calypso's face softened, and she immediately wrapped Chilli in a tight hug.

Calypso: "Oh, I'm so sorry you went through that. And I can't believe someone could just leave a child like that..."

Chilli: "It's alright, Calypso. It's in the past now. And yeah, I was shocked too. I couldn't believe anyone would abandon him."

They both turned their gaze to the smiling baby in Rosie's arms.

Chilli: "Anyway, I'm sure you've got things to do, but can I give you my phone number? I'd love to stay in touch."

Calypso: "I was about to ask the same thing!"

They exchanged phone numbers. As Calypso was getting ready to leave, Rosie, who had been deep in thought, suddenly spoke up.

Rosie: "Hey, Calypso, can you stay for a second?"

Both Chilli and Calypso looked at her, puzzled.

Rosie: "You've been my daughter's friend since you two were pups. What kind of person would I be if I let you stay in some hotel when I have a perfectly good room here? Why don't you stay with us? You can use my late husband's old room."

Calypso: "Are you sure, ma'am? I don't want to be a burden."

Rosie: "Of course, I'm sure! You're practically my second daughter."

Chilli: "She's right. You were always at our house when we were pups, and having you around would be a big help, especially with YN. So, what do you say?"

Calypso thought for a moment before smiling and nodding.

Calypso: "I'd love to stay with you all."

Everyone smiled, but Rosie quickly checked the time and gasped.

Rosie: "Oh no, Chilli! We need to get home-we've spent too much time chatting here."

Chilli: "Crap! I forgot about the delivery!"

Calypso: "I take it you've got to go?"

Calypso chuckled as Chilli scrambled to grab the bags.

Chilli: "Yep, but you'll come to the house later, right?"

Calypso: "If you're still in the same old house, then yes, I'll be there after I grab my things from the hotel."

Chilli: "Sounds good! See you later, Calypso!"

Chilli ran off with the bags, heading to the car where Rosie was already waiting. After packing the trunk, she sped off. They made it home just in time as the delivery truck pulled up. They all got inside and started working on YN's room. After about two hours, the room was nearly done when there was a knock at the door. Chilli answered it to find Calypso standing there with her luggage.

Chilli: "Calypso, you're here!"

Calypso: "Yep! I've got all my stuff."

Rosie came downstairs holding YN.

Rosie: "Ah, I see Calypso's here. Come on in and make yourself at home."

Calypso nodded and walked in, setting her luggage down by the couch.

Rosie: "You can leave your bags there. I'll take them to your room later, dear."

As they all sat down, YN crawled over to Calypso and started playing with her tail.

Chilli: "I think he already likes you, Calypso."

Rosie: "You think?"

Rosie giggled.

Calypso: "Awww, he's so cute! I just want to squeeze his tiny face!"

She picked YN up, holding him in her arms, while Chilli and Rosie exchanged smiles.

Chilli: "You're going to be a great aunt, Calypso."

Calypso: "Aunt?"

She looked down at YN, who smiled back at her.

Calypso: "Auntie Calypso... it sounds perfect!"

She continued playing with YN, making him giggle, while Chilli and Rosie looked on with warm smiles.
