Three Months Later

After six long months of court proceedings for her divorce, Chilli was finally preparing for the last day. She was about to be free from her marriage to Bandit. Though relieved, there was a deep sadness in her as she remembered the good times they once shared. She quickly pushed those thoughts aside. She had to focus on today.

Before she could leave, there was one last thing to do. She had to change her last name back to Cattle and also change Yn's last name to hers, now that her divorce was almost final.

Chilli: "Alright, buddy, time to go, alright?"

Yn just smiled at her, though he didn't fully understand what she was saying.

Chilli: "I'll take that as a yes, but we have to lock up the house since Rosie and Calypso are out shopping. The house will be empty all day."

She secured the house and then carried Yn outside, carefully placing him in his car seat before driving to the courthouse. The drive was a short ten minutes. After parking, she took Yn out of the car and walked nervously toward the courthouse.

Inside, Bandit was already sitting with the judge, talking. He stopped when he saw Chilli walk in, a disgusted look crossing his face. However, that look quickly shifted to confusion when he saw the baby she was holding.

Judge Macbeth: "Ah, Miss Chilli, you're just in time. Please, have a seat. I see you brought little Yn with you."

Chilli chuckled lightly, sitting as far away from Bandit as possible.

Chilli: "Yeah, I had to bring him with me. I have to change our last names today, so why not do it all at once?"

Judge Macbeth: "I see. Well, let's get this done. The faster we finish, the faster you're both free."

They spent the next hour with the judge, going over the final details.

Judge Macbeth: "Alright, regarding the house you two shared-who's keeping it or selling it?"

Before Bandit could speak, Chilli answered.

Chilli: "He's keeping the house. I don't need it anymore."

Judge Macbeth nodded and continued.

Judge Macbeth: "It seems your finances have always been separate, so we don't need to address that. The only thing left is for you to collect your personal belongings from the home. After that, we can sign these papers, and everything will be official."

The judge pushed a piece of paper toward them. Bandit quickly signed it and handed it back. Then it was Chilli's turn. She signed without hesitation and handed the paper back to the judge. He reviewed it for a moment before adding his signature, then put his pen down.

Judge Macbeth: "Alright, it's official. You two are now divorced. You may go on with your day, and it's nice to meet you, Yn."

Chilli nodded, quickly standing and walking out of the office with Yn, who had fallen asleep during the meeting. However, as she reached the door, Bandit grabbed her arm from behind.

Bandit: "Chilli, wait!"

Without thinking, Chilli spun around and slapped him across the face. The sound of the slap echoed through the courthouse lobby, drawing the attention of everyone nearby. Yn, now awake, looked up at his mother in confusion.

Chilli: "Don't you ever touch me again, you bastard."

Bandit sneered.

Bandit: "You hit like a bitch. But now you're just a human's bitch, aren't you? You brought that human filth into this world."

His racist words about Yn caused a stir in the lobby, and people gasped at his audacity. Chilli's anger flared, but before she could react, she felt someone's hand on Bandit's shoulder. He turned around to see Rosie standing there, furious.

Rosie: "THE HELL YOU SAY ABOUT MY GRANDBABY??!!"

Bandit, now realizing just how much trouble he was in, stuttered.

Bandit: "Uh... nothing..."

Rosie had heard enough. With a swift motion, she grabbed him by the arm and threw him out of the courthouse, the door swinging open for her. The onlookers were stunned, but Rosie was unfazed.

She turned to Chilli, who was trying to calm Yn.

Rosie: "Don't worry, honey. I've got your back."

Chilli, her hands shaking, sighed deeply.

Chilli: "I hate him, Ma. I really do..."

Rosie hugged her tightly.

Rosie: "I know, sweetheart. But let's get home. You've been through enough today."

Chilli: "No, I can't yet. I still gotta change Yn and my last name before I leave... but where did you come from? I thought you were out shopping with Calypso?"

Rosie: "Well, we were, but we got done early and were on the way back home when we saw your car in the courthouse parking lot. I decided to see if you were almost done with the divorce yet, but I walked in just as Bandit said those things about you and my grandson."

Chilli: "Well, thanks for having my back, Ma. I really appreciate it. But since you're here, can you take Yn to my car and feed him? Since all I have to do is have some papers signed, and I'll be out there in a few minutes."

Rosie then nodded and took Yn out of his mother's arm.

Rosie: "No problem, dear."

Rosie then walked outside of the courthouse and made her way to Chilli's car and Calypso's car too, since she parked next to Chilli's car.

Rosie: "Hey, Calypso, why don't you just head home without me, alright? I'm going to stay behind and try and cheer Chilli up since Bandit wanted to be a dumbass."

Calypso, who was leaning on her car the entire time, was surprised to hear this.

Calypso: "What did he do?"

Rosie opened the passenger door of Chilli's car and sat down with Yn in her arms.

Rosie: "Just being a bastard and racist to my daughter and grandson because I guess he thought that she gave birth to a human, but Bandit being a dumbass doesn't surprise me at all. And I never liked him in the first place."

Calypso: "What a jackass. He really said those things? I mean, I know there's some people in this town that would say some things like that, but Bandit? He had to change over these last few years?"

Rosie: "Probably... but I know one thing. If he ever put his paws on my daughter or my grandson, I will bite it off and shove it where the sun don't shine."

Rosie said as she began to feed Yn again.

Calypso: "Remind me to never get on your bad side."

Calypso said as she chuckled a little before smiling at Yn, who was drinking Rosie's milk in peace.

Calypso: "Who could hate a little guy like him? He looks so peaceful and if it's one thing, he's not normal either."

Rosie looked up with a questioning look at Calypso.

Rosie: "What do you mean, not normal?"

Calypso then shook her head quickly as she realized what she said probably came out wrong.

Calypso: "Oh no! Not like that. I mean good, not normal. What I meant to say is, Yn isn't like normal babies. He doesn't cry or anything, he's just always calm. And not to mention that he's grown bigger than a regular human baby, so it's been on my mind lately."

Rosie: "Well... now that you mentioned it, I guess you're right. He's not really normal, but I guess it's a blessing though. I couldn't imagine going through a baby's crying early in the morning again."

Calypso and Rosie giggled together.

Calypso: "I'm guessing Chilli and Brandy were loud criers in the mornings as baby pups?"

Rosie then chuckled and looked at Yn.

Rosie: "You have no idea."

Calypso then stopped laughing and sat in silence for a minute, which caught the attention of Rosie.

Rosie: "What's wrong, dear? Is something the matter?"

Calypso looked up at her with a serious face.

Calypso: "Rosie... do you think that Yn could be a hybrid...?"

Rosie looked at Calypso in shock from what she had just said.

Rosie: "Yn... a hybrid? No... that can't be. I mean, wouldn't he have different features, like not having all human features?"

Calypso: "I mean, Rosie, think about it. We barely know anything about Yn except that Chilli found him in the alleyway, and that's really it. He doesn't have a medical history at all. He wasn't born at a hospital, so there are no medical records until Chilli took him to get seen. And even then, they just looked at his body for any injuries-they didn't take any blood or anything."

Rosie: "I guess that could be good points, but a hybrid though? They are so rare. I mean an anthro hybrid, not a human hybrid, because they never survive at all."

Calypso: "Yeah, but what if Yn is the first-ever human hybrid?"

Rosie: "Then that means there's more to Yn than we know, and I don't think we should know at all."

Calypso: "Why not?"

Rosie: "Because if we talk about this more, then Chilli would want to find out if he is or not. She'd take him to get seen, and when that happens, the whole town would know, then the whole world. Quite frankly, I don't want my grandson to put up with all of that."

Calypso: "But Chilli wouldn't dare do something like that. She just wants what's best for her child, ever since..."

Rosie then shook her head and sighed.

Rosie: "Yeah, I know... but let's just keep this to ourselves, alright?"

Rosie said, trying to change the subject.

Calypso: "Yeah, I guess. But what if she finds out? She probably already noticed the things we noticed?"

Rosie: "I don't know, but all we can do right now is help her raise Yn and be there for both of them, alright?"

Calypso nodded just as Chilli walked up to the two of them after leaving the courthouse.

Chilli: "It's official, I am no longer a healer. And I'm back to being a cattle, and so is Yn too. He is finally family, even though he already has been."

Rosie smiled.

Rosie: "Well, honey, you've always been a cattle. Your first last name will always be your last name, no matter who you marry. Now, as for my grandson, he's still eating, so I'm gonna have to ride back with you."

Chilli: "No problem, ma. And besides, I could use someone to talk to on the way home."

Rosie: "That's fine, dear."

Chilli then turned to look at Calypso.

Chilli: "Sorry if you needed her with you, Calypso."

Calypso: "Oh, nonsense, you're fine. Besides, I wanted to visit my mother anyway after dropping Rosie back home. Now I can go straight to her house, so I'll be back home much later, before dinner."

Chilli: "Alright, stay safe then. I'll see you later, alright?"

Calypso nodded, shut her door, and pulled off, leaving Chilli and Rosie by themselves. Chilli walked over to the driver's side of her car, hopped in, shut the door, and placed some paperwork down on the center console.

Rosie: "Take a deep breath, dear, alright?"

Chilli listened to her mother and took a deep breath before leaning back and sighing again.

Chilli: "It's finally over... all of those years... gone just like that..."

Rosie sighed and took Yn off of her, deciding he had enough, and started to burp him.

Rosie: "I know, dear, and I know it's hard for you, but I'm sure you can find yourself another man in the future, one that's better than him."

Chilli: "I DON'T WANT ANYBODY ELSE!!"

Chilli's outburst surprised both her mother and Yn, who looked sad for his mother because even he knew when she was upset.

Chilli: "I'm sorry... I just... I don't want to date anymore, and I sure as hell don't need any man. All I want is to raise a good man now, one who will treat others right..."

Chilli's voice wavered with tears as she looked at Yn, who looked tired and a little sad.

Rosie: "I understand, dear... I won't talk about it again, alright? Let's just focus on Yn and what's to come for his future, alright?"

Chilli sighed, wiped away her tears, and nodded.

Chilli: "Yeah, alright, ma. I hear ya."

Chilli chuckled a little.

Chilli: "I'm worried about the wrong thing, but anyways, we should head home."

Just as she said that, Yn burped, which made both Chilli and Rosie laugh a little.

Chilli: "And I think this little one wants to go home too."

Rosie: "Well, I don't blame him. He had a long day today, didn't he?"

Rosie smiled at Yn, who smiled back at his grandmother.

Chilli: "Alright, alright, let's go. I'm getting tired too of this place, and I wanna go home and relax a bit." Chilli started the car and began to drive off. As they drove home, Chilli and Rosie talked about many things, with Rosie trying to cheer up her daughter. It worked too, as Chilli laughed a few times. They finally made it home, with Yn now asleep in Rosie's arms. To avoid waking him, Rosie slowly got out of Chilli's car and took him into the house. She gently placed him into the crib in the living room, and Chilli closed the front door behind her before plopping down on the couch with a deep sigh.

Chilli: "Home sweet home..."

Rosie chuckled a little before joining her daughter on the couch, resting her head on her shoulder.

Chilli: "Ma, I got a question."

Rosie: "What, dear?"

Chilli: "How did you do it?"

Rosie: "Do what, dear?"

Chilli: "I mean, dating... you never dated after Dad died. So how did you not get lonely or need that satisfaction?"

Rosie sighed before finally chuckling.

Rosie: "Well, it wasn't easy for me after your father died, but I guess I didn't notice I needed a man because I was so caught up trying to raise you and Brandy by myself since we had no other family. As for my needs for a man... well, I just got a dildo and made it work for years. So no, I never needed a man after your father died. And yeah, it would feel good to have a real man, but like I said, my dildo worked enough for me."

Chilli then rolled her eyes.

Chilli: "Ew, ma, I didn't ask for that much information, but... I see what you're talking about though."

Rosie chuckled a little.

Rosie: "Oh, you'll be fine. I'm sure you've heard or seen more than what I said to you, and you know how I am."

Chilli: "Yeah, I know you too well. Like, you remember that time you found Brandy snooping around in your chest?"

Chilli laughed a little.

Rosie sighed at the memory. When Brandy was still a young pup, she had gone into her mother's room to look for early Christmas gifts. Since Brandy knew her mother liked to buy gifts early, she figured her mom was hiding them somewhere. So, Brandy opened a chest hidden in her mother's closet and found... other kinds of toys.

Rosie: "Oh my God, I would like to forget that moment. I had to explain what those toys were..."

Rosie slapped herself with her paw.

Rosie: "But looking back at it, I guess it was pretty funny."

Chilli smiled.

Chilli: "Well, I guess I'm no longer surprised about it, but try not to do anything with your toys while Yn is at home when he gets a little older. That's one memory I don't want the boy to have."

Chilli chuckled, and her mother just sighed, knowing she was never going to let that go. But they both kept talking about the good times from back then. After a little while, Calypso finally came back home and started cooking. Rosie decided to help her while Chilli stayed back in the living room on the couch.

As the scent of freshly cooked food filled the house, the evening slowly unwound into a calm rhythm. The long, tense day at the courthouse felt like a distant memory as Chilli sank back into the couch. Her mind was still reeling, but the weight of the day had shifted to a lighter feeling-the comfort of family, the sound of laughter, and the closeness of those who cared for her. It was a bittersweet calm, but it was enough for now.

In the kitchen, Calypso was busy finishing up the meal. She hummed a little tune to herself, cutting vegetables and stirring the pot on the stove. Rosie stood beside her, helping where needed, setting the table and occasionally handing Calypso ingredients. There was a peaceful hum between the two women, a gentle rhythm as they worked in sync. It was a quiet contrast to the earlier chaos, and Chilli couldn't help but feel a deep sense of gratitude for having them both by her side.

The smell of food was comforting, warming the house in a way that soothed the nerves. After everything Chilli had been through that day, she could almost forget the sting of the past. As Calypso finished setting the plates on the table, Rosie called out from the dining area.

Rosie: "Dinner's ready, dear. Come on in and eat before it gets cold."

Chilli stretched, her back aching from the tension of the past few hours. She took a deep breath, grateful for the warmth in her chest as she slowly stood up. She walked into the dining area, where the table was set with a simple but hearty meal: roasted chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans, and a warm loaf of bread.

Chilli: "Wow, smells amazing in here."

She sat down at the table and smiled at the spread before her. Her stomach had been tight all day, but now, the hunger hit her in waves. Her mother, ever the perfect host, quickly filled her plate with generous portions. Calypso sat down next to her, and they began to eat, the sounds of silverware clinking softly filling the space.

Calypso: "So, tell me, Chilli. How does it feel? Now that it's all over, the divorce, I mean?"

Chilli paused, her fork halfway to her mouth, and glanced at her mother, who watched her quietly. The question was simple, but it opened up a floodgate of emotions that Chilli hadn't fully processed.

Chilli: "It feels... freeing, in a way. But also strange. All these years, all that time spent tied to him... It's hard to just shake it off, you know?"

Rosie's face softened, her eyes full of empathy as she reached across the table to gently squeeze Chilli's hand.

Rosie: "I know, honey. But you're stronger than you think. You've been through so much, and now it's time to focus on what really matters-Yn, your future, and your peace of mind."

Calypso nodded in agreement, her eyes thoughtful as she took a sip of her water.

Calypso: "Exactly. You've got a clean slate now, Chilli. And you're not doing this alone. You've got us."

Chilli smiled at her friends, her family. She felt it then-the warmth of their support, the knowledge that no matter how dark the day had seemed, there were still people who cared, people who were here for her and Yn.

As the conversation shifted from the heavy topics to lighter ones, the atmosphere began to feel more like it had before the chaos. Rosie's infectious laughter filled the room as she told stories of her younger years, her voice always filled with joy despite the struggles she'd been through. Calypso, ever the attentive listener, asked questions and added her own tidbits to the mix, keeping the mood light and easy.

The evening seemed to stretch out, slow and gentle, as they ate and shared stories, memories of past Christmases and mishaps. Chilli found herself laughing more than she had all day, her worries fading into the background as her mother and Calypso continued their banter. It wasn't just a meal-they were healing. Together.

As dinner came to an end, the three of them sat back in their chairs, content and full, the dishes cleared away. Chilli felt a heavy weight lift off her shoulders, replaced by the comforting presence of those who loved her.

Rosie: "I think we all deserve a bit of a rest after today. What do you say?"

Chilli nodded, rubbing her temples with a sigh of relief.

Chilli: "That sounds perfect. I just need a hot shower, then I'm going to curl up in bed. I swear, I feel like I could sleep for a week."

Calypso: "You do that. I'll help clean up here. You deserve to relax."

Chilli got up slowly, a small smile on her face as she patted her mother's shoulder.

Chilli: "Thanks, ma. You know I couldn't do this without you."

Rosie smiled back warmly, her eyes kind.

Rosie: "That's what family's for, honey."

Calypso remained seated at the table, quietly clearing away the last of the plates. She caught Chilli's eye as she passed, and there was an unspoken understanding between them. Calypso had always been there for Chilli, even when the world seemed to be crumbling. Now, it felt like they were all here for each other, not just as friends, but as family.

Chilli disappeared into the bathroom, leaving her mother and Calypso to finish up the last of the cleaning. The house was quiet for a few moments, the sound of water running in the bathroom filling the space.

Once Chilli was finished, she came out of the bathroom wrapped in a towel, her body relaxed and ready for sleep. She glanced over at her mother, who had set up Yn in the crib, his small form now tucked in and sleeping peacefully.

Chilli walked over to the crib, gazing down at her son with a smile.

Chilli: "He's so peaceful. I swear, sometimes it feels like he's the calmest one in this house."

Rosie chuckled from behind her.

Rosie: "Yeah, he's a good little guy. He takes after you."

Chilli rolled her eyes playfully, but there was a deep warmth in her chest at her mother's words.

Chilli: "I hope he's always like this. He's the only thing that keeps me grounded."

Rosie nodded, walking up beside her.

Rosie: "And we'll be here for you both. No matter what. You've got a whole village behind you, Chilli."

With a contented sigh, Chilli gently kissed Yn's forehead before walking over to the couch and collapsing into the soft cushions. Her mother sat beside her, and Calypso joined them soon after. There was no pressure, no rushing-just the quiet company of those she loved.

Calypso: "So, where are we going tomorrow? Anything exciting?"

Rosie: "How about we take a day to just rest? Maybe go out for a walk or something simple. We deserve a break."

Chilli smiled at them both, feeling a sense of peace that had been absent for so long.

Chilli: "That sounds perfect. Just a quiet day with you two. And maybe we can go check on that new park downtown-Yn might like it."

Rosie: "A great idea. Tomorrow, we'll just be together."

As they all settled in for the night, the sounds of the house quieted, the only sound the gentle breathing of Yn in his crib. Rosie, Calypso, and Chilli drifted off to sleep, knowing that while tomorrow would bring its challenges, they would face it together, as a family. ‐-------------------------------------------------------------------- I'm about to crash the fuck out over this story but anyways sorry for being mia over the week but last Saturday I've gotten my new phone in the mail and I've been trying to get used to it while I worked on this chapter all week and it didn't help that wattpad is being well you know wattpad but I'm Glad that I could finish this chapter and upload it today even tho I was so close from not doing anything at all today after I hurt myself this morning trying to chase after a spare tire my mother forgot about which lead to me sliding and falling on my knee and elbow which now hurts like a mother fucker but yall have a good night lol __________________________________________
