As the days went by, Rosie and Trixie made the most of their time together, hardly sparing a moment for the other three members of the household-Calypso, Chilli, and YN. Chilli and Calypso didn't mind much, understanding that the two hadn't seen each other in years. However, one person wasn't so thrilled: YN. Being a baby, he didn't understand why his grandmother wasn't by his side as often, which left him feeling neglected.

But a new day dawned over the Cattle family home, and as the first rays of sunlight spilled through the windows, Chilli was the first to wake.

Stretching and yawning, Chilli rose from her bed and smiled as the warm orange glow of the sunrise bathed her room. She walked over to check on YN, who was still sound asleep. Knowing he would wake soon, she gently picked him up and carried him downstairs. The scent of freshly brewed coffee greeted her as she entered the living room. Spotting Calypso in the kitchen, she placed YN in his crib near the couch before heading into the kitchen herself.

Chilli: "Mornin', Calypso," she greeted, grabbing a freshly poured cup of coffee and taking a seat at the table.

Calypso: "Good mornin' to ya too. Hope ya slept better than I did last night," Calypso replied, her fur ruffled from another restless night. Ever since Trixie had arrived, her sleep had been sparse.

Chilli sighed as she sipped her coffee.

Chilli: "Not great, honestly. Drowned it out with music on my iPod. Thank God today's her last day here before headin' back home."

Calypso placed the coffee pot down and joined Chilli at the table, sitting across from her.

Calypso: "Same here. Don't get me wrong-I'm glad your mum reconnected with her friend, and I understand it's been years since she's had company like this. But seriously, there are other people in this house. And let's not forget, your grandson's room is right down the hall. They could at least try to keep it down."

Chilli sighed again, setting her cup on the table.

Chilli: "I know. If Trixie stayed any longer, I'd have ta talk to Mum. At least she's leavin' today."

Their conversation trailed off as they glanced toward the living room, where early sunlight bathed YN in his crib, casting a golden glow across the room. The peaceful moment didn't last long, however, as the sound of Rosie and Trixie descending the stairs broke the quiet. Both women appeared in their robes, chatting and laughing.

Trixie smiled brightly when she saw Chilli and Calypso.

Trixie: "Mornin', ladies! Thought I'd pop down before I start packin' up to leave. Rosie's been the best company."

Calypso: "Morning, Trixie," she replied with a forced smile. "Safe travels, yeah?"

Trixie gave a light laugh before noticing YN stirring awake in his crib.

Rosie walked over to YN with a warm smile.

Rosie: "Mornin', little star! How'd ya sleep?"

YN didn't respond. Instead, he turned away, clutching his blanket tightly.

Rosie: "Love? Are ya feelin' okay?"

Rosie reached in to pick him up, but YN squirmed and pushed at her chest weakly. Then, for the first time, his little voice broke through:

YN: "No!"

The room went silent. Chilli, still seated at the table, froze mid-sip of her coffee. Calypso's ears perked up in shock. Rosie's smile faltered as if her heart cracked in two.

Rosie: "No?" she whispered, her voice trembling. "Oh, love... that's not what I thought your first word would be."

YN squirmed in her arms again, his small voice trembling with frustration.

YN: "No!"

Trixie awkwardly cleared her throat, glancing between the others and the unhappy baby.

Trixie: "Well, uh... maybe I'll head back upstairs and start packin' up.

Without waiting for a reply, she quickly shuffled back upstairs, leaving the others to process what just happened.

Rosie placed YN back into the crib gently, her ears drooping. Chilli and Calypso exchanged a look, their expressions equally heavy.

Chilli: "No? That's his first word? Mum, that's...

Calypso: "Yeah, not 'mama,' not 'grandma,' but... no. Poor little guy."

Rosie sat down beside the crib, guilt etched into her face.

Rosie: "Love, I'm sorry. I didn't mean ta hurt ya or make ya feel left out. I'll make it up ta ya. Please don't be upset with me."

YN simply turned his back to her again, his silence louder than any words. Rosie sat there for a moment, her head in her hands.

Rosie: "What did I do so wrong? I thought I was givin' him what he needed..."

Chilli walked over, placing a paw on her shoulder.

Chilli: "Mum, it's not about one big thing. It's the little things, yeah? He just wants ta feel like he's your priority again."

The rest of the day, Rosie tried everything she could think of to win YN over. She started by making his favorite pancakes for breakfast, hoping the smell of his favorite food might lift his spirits. As she flipped the pancakes, YN sat in his high chair, his face still holding that expression of quiet rejection. She placed a plate in front of him, but he pushed it away, his little hands swiping at the food like he wanted nothing to do with it. Rosie's heart sank as she looked at his upset face.

Rosie: "Come on, love... don't ya want your pancakes? I made 'em just how you like 'em."

But YN didn't respond. He simply looked away, his small fingers digging into the side of his high chair.

Chilli: "Maybe he needs a break from all the... well, everything, Mum."

Rosie sighed, sitting down next to YN with a sad smile.

Rosie: "I just want him to smile at me again. Is that too much to ask?"

The morning passed with Rosie trying everything she could think of-playing with his toys, reading his favorite storybook out loud, even singing to him softly-but nothing worked. YN barely even looked at her, and it seemed like every time she tried to get close, he pulled away. Rosie's efforts only made her feel worse.

By evening, she found herself sitting on the back porch, the weight of her failure pressing down on her. Chilli and Calypso joined her, their quiet company offering little solace. Rosie couldn't shake the sadness she felt.

Rosie: "I've made a mess of things. My own grandson, and his first word is no... I just want ta make it right."

Chilli: "Mum, you're doin' your best. He'll come around, just give it time."

Calypso: "Yeah. He's a little guy, and he's just confused. You'll fix it."

With a heavy heart, Rosie stood up and headed back inside. She found YN in the living room, playing with his blocks. Kneeling beside him, she reached out to him gently.

Rosie: "Love, I'm so sorry. I let ya down. But I promise, I'll never let ya feel like that again. Can ya give me another chance?"

YN hesitated, his small hands gripping his blanket tightly. He turned his head and then, slowly, he reached out toward her. Rosie's heart swelled as she carefully pulled him into a gentle hug, her eyes welling up with tears.

Rosie: "Thank ya, sweetheart. I'll do better for ya-I promise."

Chilli and Calypso watched from the doorway, both smiling softly.

Calypso: "She's learnin'."

Chilli: "And he's forgivin'. Little guy's got a big heart."

As the sun set, Rosie carried YN inside

As the evening wore on, Rosie sat with YN in her lap, gently rocking him to sleep. The house was quiet now, save for the soft hum of the wind outside. The weight on her heart had lightened, and she smiled down at the little boy who had forgiven her, his small body nestled in her arms.

But just as the day was winding down, Trixie descended the stairs, her suitcase in hand. She looked at Rosie and the others with a somber expression.

Trixie: "Hey, I'm really sorry about the last few days. I didn't realize how much I was... I dunno, distracting everyone. I just got caught up in old memories with Rosie."

She walked over to the group, giving a sheepish smile.

Trixie: "I should've been more mindful. I know it's been a lot on all of you, and I want to apologize for the way we've been... well, acting. I didn't mean to make anyone feel neglected."

Chilli and Calypso exchanged a glance before laughing lightly.

Chilli: "Trixie, we didn't mind much, honestly. We know how it is when you've got old friends around, catching up on things. But next time, just tone it down a little, yeah?"

Calypso: "Yeah, maybe keep it at a dull roar when it's family time. You know, for the kid's sake."

Both women chuckled, their voices teasing but kind.

Trixie: "I get it. I'll try to keep it quieter next time. But, seriously, I'm sorry for causing any tension around here."

Rosie smiled, grateful for Trixie's apology but also appreciative of Chilli and Calypso's lightheartedness.

Rosie: "It's okay, Trixie. You didn't mean anything bad by it. I just needed to figure out where I went wrong with YN."

Trixie nodded in understanding, offering a gentle smile to Rosie and YN.

Trixie: "Well, I better get going. I don't want to cause more chaos around here."

She walked over to give Rosie a hug, and then turned to YN.

Trixie: "Take care of him, Rosie. He's a special little guy."

But as Trixie moved toward the door, something unexpected happened. YN, still sitting in Rosie's lap, suddenly perked up and reached out his small arms toward Trixie.

YN: "Bye-bye!"

The word was soft but clear, and everyone froze for a moment, their hearts catching in their throats. Rosie's eyes widened in surprise, and Chilli and Calypso couldn't help but smile at the unexpected gesture.

Trixie: "You... you said 'bye-bye,' sweetie?"

Trixie knelt down beside YN, her face lighting up as she held his little hands.

Trixie: "Aw, thank you, love. That means a lot."

Rosie, Chilli, and Calypso all exchanged glances, a mixture of relief and happiness washing over them. The tension that had hung in the air for days seemed to melt away, and a sense of peace settled in.

Rosie: "Thank you, little one... you just made everything better."

Trixie stood up, wiping a tear from her eye, her smile wide.

Trixie: "Alright, I'm really off this time. Take care, all of you. I'll make sure to keep it quieter next time."

She turned toward the door, but before leaving, Rosie stood and walked over to her, a guilty expression on her face.

Rosie: "Trixie, wait a moment. I... I owe you an apology too. After the night you arrived, I should've made sure we spent time with my family, introduced YN to you, and just made more of an effort to include you. But we both got caught up in each other, talking and reminiscing, and I neglected to balance everything out. I should've focused more on you and getting to know you with YN, instead of losing track of time."

Trixie smiled warmly at Rosie, understanding in her eyes.

Trixie: "It's okay, Rosie. I know you didn't mean it. We all get caught up sometimes. But I appreciate you saying that."

Rosie: "Next time you come over, we're doing it right. We'll take time to get to know each other better, spend time with YN, and just enjoy each other's company. No more distractions."

Trixie nodded, her smile widening.

Trixie: "I'd like that. I'd really like that."

Before she left, though, Rosie looked over at Chilli and Calypso, a thoughtful expression on her face.

Rosie: "And I want to apologize to you two as well. I should've been more present, more mindful of everyone's needs. I let things get out of balance, and I'm sorry if it made things harder on you both."

Chilli chuckled softly, patting Rosie on the back.

Chilli: "You don't have to apologize, Rosie. We get it. But you know, next time, just remember we're all in this together."

Calypso: "Exactly. We're a team, Rosie. Don't forget that."

Rosie smiled, feeling the warmth of her friends' understanding.

Rosie: "Thanks, guys. I appreciate it. I promise I'll do better."

With one last wave to the group, Trixie grabbed her bag and headed for the door, leaving the house a little quieter, but a little more whole.

Before she left, though, YN called out again.

YN: "Bye-bye!"

Trixie's eyes sparkled as she turned around to wave at the little one.

Trixie: "Goodbye, sweetheart."

The door closed behind her, leaving the house a little more peaceful.

As the door clicked shut, Chilli and Calypso exchanged a deep breath, both of them sharing the relief that now filled the room.

Chilli: "Well, that was... something."

Calypso: "Yeah. But all's well that ends well."

Rosie smiled, feeling the warmth of her family around her. She'd made some mistakes, but she was determined to be the grandmother YN needed. And with her family's support, she knew she'd get there.

But as the room fell silent, YN looked up at Rosie, his eyes wide and searching. After a few moments, he said, his voice small but clear:

YN: "Grandma?"

Rosie's heart skipped a beat. She leaned down to kiss his forehead, her eyes misting over.

Rosie: "Yes, sweetheart, grandma's here."

And then, to her surprise, YN looked over at Chilli, his little face lighting up as he said in his soft, hesitant voice:

YN: "Momma..."

Chilli's heart melted. She crouched down beside him, her voice filled with love and tenderness.

Chilli: "Yes, baby. Momma's here."

The room was filled with an overwhelming sense of peace, and for the first time in a while, everything felt right. Rosie, Chilli, and Calypso shared a quiet moment, letting the warmth of the moment wash over them. __________________________________________ Alright alright yall can kick my ass if you want to I know I should have gotten this chapter out like a week or two ago but after I dropped the first chapter of this Is not our home I gotten a little sick Which lasted a minute but enough of that let's talk about the last chapter 🤣 some of yall killed me in the comments but yall are right that chapter was outta pocket in which I blame myself since I haven't written a lemon in a long time and so I kinda went crazy with no filter but after giving it a REALLY long thought this story won't have a lemon for a long time but there will be some spicy moments here and there as the book grows but anyways im yapping so let's talk about future chapters as I'm making some changes such as the length will be ten times long since like I said this is just the starting of the book so the first few chapters might seem short but I really ment to do that on purpose but anyways in the next chapter I'm going to time skip a few years to where yn is now in school and a few new characters show up new drama comes and many more but time to get to the good parts of the story so ill see you fine lady's and men latter __________________________________________
