As dawn broke over the Cattle household, the first rays of sunlight peeked through the windows, casting a soft glow over the quiet home. The night had passed peacefully, and the morning was just beginning. One by one, the household stirred awake, stretching and yawning as they made their way downstairs toward the kitchen.
However, upon arrival, Rosie, Calypso, and Chilli found the room empty and still cloaked in darkness.
Rosie: "Oh... YN must still be asleep?"
Calypso: "YN... sleeping in? Yeah, something's up."
Chilli: "I'll go check on him."
Rosie: "Yeah, that sounds like a good idea. While you do that, Calypso and I can start making coffee and breakfast."
Rosie scratched the back of her ear as she turned toward the darkened kitchen. Meanwhile, Chilli gave a nod and made her way upstairs. The house was quiet, save for the soft creaks of the wooden floor beneath her feet as she approached YN's room.
Carefully, she opened the door and peeked inside. The boy was still curled up beneath the blankets, his form rising and falling with each steady breath. A small smile tugged at Chilli's lips as she stepped inside and gently sat on the edge of his bed.
Chilli: "Hey, sweetie, it's time to wake up."
She placed a gentle hand on his shoulder, shaking him lightly.
YN groaned softly, shifting as he rolled onto his side, a yawn escaping him. He blinked a few times before his brown eyes met Chilli's gaze, still hazy with sleep.
YN: "Mmm... morning already?"
Chilli: "Yeah, it is. You've got a big day ahead of you, remember? We're going to check out the school today."
YN rubbed his eyes and let out another yawn before sitting up.
YN: "Right... the school."
Chilli: "You stayed up all night thinking about it, didn't you?"
YN hesitated before mumbling:
YN: "...Maybe."
Chilli chuckled lightly, ruffling his hair.
Chilli: "I had a feeling. You've been so excited about this. But you still need your rest, sweetie."
YN: "I know, I know. I just couldn't stop thinking about finally going to school."
Chilli: "Well, now you don't have to just think about it-you're going to see it for yourself today."
YN nodded slowly as he stretched his arms.
YN: "I'll be fine, I think. Just... gotta get used to it, I guess."
Chilli: "That's my boy. Now come on, let's get some breakfast before we head out."
After getting ready, YN made his way downstairs, where the smell of fresh coffee and breakfast filled the air. Calypso and Rosie were already seated at the table, chatting as they sipped their drinks.
YN: "Morning, Grandma. Morning, Auntie."
He gave both of them a quick hug before taking his seat, receiving affectionate kisses from them like always.
Rosie: "Good morning to you too, baby. I take it you didn't get much sleep last night?"
Calypso: "Yeah, I was wondering why you weren't up early making breakfast like usual."
YN was about to respond when Chilli walked into the kitchen and answered for him.
Chilli: "That's because this little rug rat was too excited about visiting the school today-he forgot to actually go to sleep."
YN blushed slightly as the women chuckled.
YN: "Yeah... I kinda got a little too happy and stayed up all night listening to music and thinking about school."
The laughter made his blush deepen, but he kept eating his food. Calypso, noticing the thoughtful look on his face, tilted her head.
Calypso: "You alright there, YN? Looks like something's on your mind."
YN glanced up and shook his head.
YN: "It's nothing, really. I just feel kinda bad that I didn't wake up early to make breakfast for everyone."
Hearing this, Rosie smirked and reached out to ruffle his hair.
Rosie: "Oh, please, that's nothing to feel bad about. Besides, we should be the ones cooking for you, not the other way around. But we can't say no to that cute little face when you want to cook."
Chilli: "She's right. You don't need to worry about making breakfast all the time. And since you're going to be in school soon, I want you to get all the rest you can-so that means no waking up early anymore, got it?"
YN sighed and leaned back in his chair.
YN: "Alright, fine..."
Sensing that he might be a little disappointed, Rosie decided to lift his spirits.
Rosie: "Well, that doesn't mean you can't still help me with dinner when you get home from school."
YN perked up slightly.
YN: "Yeah, I guess you're right... wait a minute, am I riding the bus, or will I be a car rider?"
Chilli: "You'll be a car rider. My new hours at work have been cut back a little, so I'll be able to drop you off and pick you up from school."
YN: "Oh, cool!"
He stuffed a piece of bacon into his mouth, while Chilli went back to talking with her mother. Calypso, who had been eating her eggs, suddenly smirked as a thought crossed her mind.
Calypso: "Sooo, YN~ since you're starting school soon, I bet the girls will be all over you. Be careful, lady killer-you might get a girlfriend~."
YN immediately choked on his bacon, coughing as he quickly grabbed his drink. Calypso burst into laughter, while Rosie rushed to pat his back and Chilli smacked Calypso's shoulder.
Chilli: "See what you did? You made him choke on his food!"
As the laughter died down, YN took a sip of juice to soothe his throat, still glaring playfully at his aunt.
YN: "Jeez, Auntie, you trying to kill me before I even make it to school?"
Calypso, still snickering, shrugged.
Calypso: "Not my fault you reacted like that, kiddo. I was just saying-you might have some admirers."
Rosie smirked, rubbing YN's back gently.
Rosie: "Oh, I dunno, I think she's right. You're a sweetheart. Some girl-or maybe a few-might take a liking to you."
Chilli rolled her eyes and ruffled YN's hair, making him grumble.
Chilli: "Alright, enough of that. My boy is going to school to learn, not to get distracted by crushes."
YN huffed, cheeks still warm from embarrassment, but deep down, he felt a little more at ease with the playful teasing. It made the nerves about school fade-at least for now.
Once breakfast was finished and the dishes were washed, YN went to his room to get dressed. He picked out a comfortable outfit, glancing at himself in the mirror. His brown eyes stared back at him, a mix of excitement and anxiety swirling in them.
Will the other kids even like me?
The thought made his stomach twist slightly. He knew not everyone in town was friendly toward humans. He'd seen the stares, the way some anthros whispered when they walked by. Chilli always told him to ignore it, but it was hard sometimes.
A knock at the door snapped him from his thoughts.
Chilli: "Sweetie? You ready?"
YN took a breath and nodded, even though she couldn't see.
YN: "Yeah, coming!"
He grabbed his small backpack-mostly for show today, since it was just a tour-and headed downstairs. Chilli was waiting by the door, keys in hand, while Rosie and Calypso stood nearby.
Rosie: "Have fun, baby. You'll do great."
Calypso: "Yeah, and don't let the principal intimidate you. She's got a soft spot for kids, from what I hear."
YN nodded, giving them each a quick hug before following Chilli outside. The morning air was crisp, the sun just beginning to warm the streets as they got into the car.
The drive to the school was quiet at first, YN staring out the window, watching as buildings and anthros passed by. Some were friendly-waving or smiling when they recognized Chilli's car. Others... not so much.
Chilli noticed.
Chilli: "Hey."
YN turned to her.
Chilli: "Don't let them get in your head, alright? Today is about you. No one else matters."
YN nodded, gripping his backpack straps a little tighter.
YN: "I'll try."
Chilli reached over, giving his shoulder a reassuring squeeze before turning back to the road.
Soon, the school came into view-a large, well-maintained building with a playground off to the side. Anthro children of all kinds were already arriving, some walking with parents, others hopping off buses.
As Chilli parked, YN's heart started pounding.
This is really happening...
Chilli got out first, walking around to open his door. He took her hand without thinking, and she squeezed it gently before leading him toward the entrance.
Inside, the halls were bright and clean, decorated with student artwork and posters about school events. YN took it all in, his nerves battling with curiosity.
Then, a warm voice called out-
???: "Ah, you must be YN!"
Turning, YN saw a tall, anthro woman walking toward them. She had soft, motherly eyes and a gentle smile
Principal: "Welcome! I'm Principal Alder. I've heard so much about you."
Her voice was calm, inviting-immediately putting YN at ease.
Chilli, however, remained on guard.
Chilli: "Pleasure to meet you. I trust everything is set for the tour?"
Alder nodded.
Alder: "Of course! And don't worry, I'll personally make sure YN feels safe and comfortable here."
Chilli's expression softened slightly, but YN could still feel how tense she was.
He gave her hand a small squeeze.
YN: "It's okay, Mom. I'll be fine."
She hesitated, then smiled, brushing a hand through his hair.
Chilli: "Alright. Let's see this school, then."
And with that, the tour began.
As they walked through the school, YN stayed close to Chilli, his eyes darting around as they passed classrooms filled with chatting students and teachers preparing for the day. Some anthro kids glanced their way-some with curiosity, others with mild surprise.
Principal Alder noticed and gave YN a reassuring smile.
Alder: "We have a diverse group of students here, YN. Many of them have never met a human before, but I'm confident that once they get to know you, they'll see you're just like any other student."
Chilli let out a quiet hum, arms crossed.
Chilli: "He shouldn't have to prove anything to anyone."
Alder met Chilli's gaze, her expression understanding.
Alder: "You're right. He shouldn't. But I also believe that a good environment can help bridge the gaps between differences. That's why I want YN to feel welcome here."
YN glanced between them before looking around again. He wasn't sure what to expect from the students. Would they be friendly? Would they ignore him? Or worse-treat him like an outsider?
As if sensing his thoughts, Alder gestured toward a nearby classroom.
Alder: "This will be your homeroom, YN. Would you like to step inside and meet your teacher?"
YN hesitated, but Chilli gave his shoulder a gentle squeeze, silently encouraging him. Taking a breath, he nodded.
Alder led them into the room, where a tall, regal-looking lioness stood at the front of the class, her golden fur sleek and well-groomed. She was sorting through some papers but perked up the moment the door opened. Her amber eyes softened as she spotted them.
Liora: "Ah, Principal Alder! Is this our newest student?"
Alder smiled.
Alder: "Yes, this is YN. YN, this is Ms. Liora, your homeroom teacher."
Ms. Liora stepped forward with a warm expression, crouching slightly to be at eye level with YN.
Liora: "Welcome, YN. It's nice to meet you. I heard you were coming today, and I've been looking forward to having you in my class."
YN swallowed, feeling his nerves creep back up.
YN: "Uh... nice to meet you too."
Ms. Liora smiled at his shyness, then glanced at Chilli, offering a polite nod.
Liora: "You must be his mother. Don't worry, Mrs. Cattle, I assure you I take the safety of all my students very seriously."
Chilli studied the lioness for a moment before finally nodding.
Chilli: "I appreciate that. My son means everything to me."
Ms. Liora's ears flicked slightly as she looked back at YN.
Liora: "I know it must feel a little overwhelming, but I promise you'll be in good hands here."
Before YN could respond, a voice piped up from the back of the room.
???: "Wait, is that the new kid?"
(Just imagine she looks really young)
YN turned to see a young lioness sitting at one of the desks, her tail swishing behind her. She looked about his age, with a short, messy mane just starting to grow in around her face. Her golden fur was a slightly darker shade than Ms. Liora's, but her bright amber eyes were the same.
Liora chuckled.
Liora: "And this curious one here is my daughter, Nia. She's in your class as well."
Nia hopped out of her chair and strode over, standing in front of YN with her arms crossed as she looked him up and down.
Nia: "Huh. So you're really a human, huh?"
YN shifted slightly, unsure of what to say.
YN: "Uh... yeah?"
Nia's serious expression broke into a wide grin.
Nia: "Cool! Never met one before. Do you like video games?"
YN blinked, caught off guard.
YN: "Uh... yeah, I do."
Nia's tail flicked again, clearly excited.
Nia: "Nice! What do you play?"
Before YN could answer, Ms. Liora chuckled.
Liora: "Nia, give him a little space. He just got here."
Nia rubbed the back of her head, looking a little sheepish.
Nia: "Right, sorry. But hey, you should sit with me at lunch. I can introduce you to my friends."
YN hesitated, then glanced at Chilli. She was watching closely, her expression unreadable.
Alder, noticing, placed a gentle hand on her shoulder.
Alder: "See? He's already making a friend."
Chilli sighed but gave a small nod.
Chilli: "I just want to make sure he's safe. That's all."
YN looked back at Nia, then gave a small nod.
YN: "Alright. That sounds... fun."
Nia grinned.
Nia: "Awesome!"
Ms. Liora clapped her hands together.
Liora: "Well, I think that's a good start! YN, I'm looking forward to having you in class. And Chilli, if you ever have any concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out."
Chilli nodded, but YN could tell she was still a little tense.
As they left the classroom, Chilli exhaled slowly, rubbing her temples.
Chilli: "Well... that went better than I expected."
Alder chuckled softly.
Alder: "You don't have to worry so much, Chilli. YN's a strong kid. And he's not alone."
Chilli glanced down at YN, her eyes softening.
Chilli: "I know. But I'm his mom. Worrying comes with the job."
YN smiled a little. He knew she just wanted to protect him. But maybe... just maybe... school wouldn't be so bad after all.
After their conversation with Ms. Liora and Nia, YN and Chilli followed Principal Alder through the hallways as she guided them to different parts of the school.
Alder: "Now that you've met your homeroom teacher, let me show you around the rest of the school. That way, you'll know where everything is before your first day."
YN nodded as they walked, taking in the surroundings. The school was a mix of modern and rustic, with clean hallways, large windows letting in natural light, and wooden accents that gave it a warm atmosphere.
Their first stop was the cafeteria-a spacious room filled with long tables and a serving area where anthro staff were preparing food for the day. The scent of fresh bread and cooked meat filled the air.
Alder: "This is where you'll be eating lunch. Students can either bring their own meals or grab something from the cafeteria."
Nia, still tagging along, nudged YN.
Nia: "The food's actually pretty good. Just get here early if you don't wanna be stuck in the long lines."
YN took mental notes before they moved on.
Next was the gymnasium, a massive indoor space with polished wooden floors, basketball hoops, and various sports equipment neatly stored against the walls. A few students were running laps while a tall, muscular tigress in a tracksuit barked orders at them.
She turned when she spotted the group, crossing her arms.
Alder: "This is Coach Vira. She teaches physical education."
Vira eyed YN for a moment before offering a sharp nod.
Vira: "You look light on your feet, kid. You play any sports?"
YN: "Uh... not really, but I like running."
Vira smirked.
Vira: "Good. You'll need that. We do a lot of running in this class."
YN wasn't sure if that was a good or bad thing, but he nodded anyway.
After a brief introduction, they continued the tour, stopping by the library, science lab, and music room. Each time, YN met a new teacher-each of them women, though this detail completely went over his head.
There was Ms. Renna, a kind but strict owl who handled math, Ms. Sylvi, a playful and enthusiastic fox who taught history, and Ms. Maren, a gentle wolf who ran the art class.
By the time they had finished, YN's head was spinning with names and places, but he was also feeling... excited.
As they walked back toward the entrance, Alder smiled.
Alder: "And that concludes the tour. I hope you're feeling a little more at ease now, YN."
Yn: "Honestly, I like it here a lot. Mrs. Liora and Nia were really nice, and the other teachers were nice too!"
Yn said, smiling.
Alder: "That's good! And how about you, Mrs. Chilli?"
Alder said as Yn and she turned to look at Chilli, who had her arms folded and a look of uncertainty on her face. After a moment, she let out a big sigh and unfolded her arms.
Chilli: "It's a good school. And if Yn thinks it's the perfect school for him, then it's the perfect school for him."
Chilli said, smiling at both of them.
Yn: "So, when can I start going here?!"
Chilli chuckled.
Chilli: "Soon, Yn. But first, me and Mrs. Alder have some paperwork to finish before we can enroll you fully."
Alder: "She's right, Yn. But it won't take long to do the paperwork, and you'll be able to attend school here soon."
Yn sighed but still looked happy. He shook his head as he understood, and they all started to walk out of the school doors, heading to the parking lot where Chilli's car was located.
Alder: "So, Miss Chilli, I'll contact you by phone so we can set up another meeting and handle, you know, the boring stuff. But I hope you two have a good rest of your day. And Yn, I'll see you soon, alright?"
Chilli nodded, and Yn spoke up.
Yn: "Alright, Miss Alder! Can't wait to come here every day and learn!"
Yn said happily. He went to the car, opened the passenger door, climbed in, and shut the door. He waited for his mother, who was still talking to Mrs. Alder. After a few more seconds, Yn saw Mrs. Alder and his mother shake hands. They both walked off, with Miss Alder heading back toward the school and his mother walking to the car. She got in, started the car, and drove off.
Chilli: "Well, this was an eventful day, huh, Yn?"
Yn yawned a bit.
Yn: "Yeah, I guess you could say that."
Chilli chuckled.
Chilli: "Seems like someone's tired?"
Yn: "Yeah, that's on me. I should have gone to sleep on time last night."
Chilli: "Well, you'll get plenty of sleep when we get home soon. But I've got to make a stop at the store because your grandma and auntie need me to pick up a few things."
Yn: "Alright, that sounds cool... I might get some sleep while we're on the way there."
Chilli: "Alright, kiddo. Sleep tight."
Chilli said in a gentle voice.
Yn: "Mhmm..."
Yn said as he laid his seat back a little, rested his head on the side of the seat, and fell asleep. While he was asleep, Chilli kept driving. As she drove, she noticed the sky started to get darker, and a few minutes later, water droplets hit the windshield.
Chilli: "Hmm, looks like a storm is coming. Better get to the store soon."
Chilli said as she turned on the windshield wipers. After she did that, she heard Yn move a little. She turned to look at him and saw that he had made himself more comfortable. He looked cute as his fluffy hair waved around from the air conditioning. This made her have flashbacks to when he was younger.
Chilli: "So cute... How did I end up finding someone like you, Yn?"
Chilli said as she rubbed his back while driving with one hand.
Chilli: "My little boy is growing up..."
After she said that, she stopped rubbing his back and wiped a tear that fell from her eye. She continued to focus on driving to the store. After a few more minutes, she finally made it to the local store. She quickly got out and ran into the store, but not before locking the car doors with Yn still inside, asleep.
As she walked in, the cashier noticed her.
Cashier: "Oh, hi, Chilli! How are you doing on this fine rainy day?"
Chilli: "I'm doing fine. Just came to get a few things before I head back home."
Cashier: "Oh, that's good. Say, where's Yn? The little squirt is usually with you or Rosie."
Chilli: "Oh, Yn? He's just asleep in the car. He didn't go to sleep last night because he was so happy about going to school soon. He fell asleep after we left the school earlier today and felt tired after the tour."
Cashier: "Oh, he's finally going to school soon? That's wonderful!"
Chilli chuckled a little.
Chilli: "Yeah, he's been so excited about going to school. He even made a friend today during the tour. But I've got to get home soon. I'll swing by and tell you about the rest tomorrow."
Chilli and the cashier talked for a few more minutes. Meanwhile, outside in the pouring rain, Yn, who was asleep in the car, slowly woke up from how hard the rain was pounding on the car. He was a little confused about where he was for a second until his brain fully woke up a few seconds later. He realized he was at the store and turned to look over at the driver's seat, noticing his mother wasn't in the car with him.
Yn: "She must still be in the store."
Yn said as he let out a little yawn. He pulled his seat back up and sat there for a minute, stretching. After a few more minutes of waiting, his mother came out running to the car, trying not to get too wet. She opened the door, hopped in, and closed the door very quickly. She placed the bag of stuff she had just bought in the back seat.
Chilli: "Phew... Man, it's pouring down out there."
Yn: "Yeah, it really is."
Yn spoke up, which scared Chilli a little since she had completely forgotten about him and thought he was still sleeping.
Chilli: "Jesus, don't scare me like that! I thought you were still sleeping."
Yn yawned after she said that.
Yn: "My bad. But no, I woke up a few minutes ago. So, did you get the stuff you were looking for?"
Chilli: "Yeah, I did. Now it's time to head back home before this storm gets worse."
Yn hummed in response. Even though he had woken up a few minutes ago, he was still tired and not fully alert. As Chilli put the car in reverse, Yn put his seatbelt on. Chilli left the store, heading back onto the road toward home.
After a minute or two, Chilli decided to talk to Yn for a moment.
Chilli: "Say, Yn, do you still have enough energy to help me and your grandma cook dinner tonight?"
Yn: "Yeah, I would never miss an opportunity to cook with grandma and you, Ma."
Yn said in a tired voice.
Chilli: "You sure? You know you could just go straight to bed, right?"
Yn shook his head.
Yn: "Nah, I'm good."
Chilli didn't look too sure, but she knew better than to argue with him over something this small.
Chilli: "Alright, if you say so."
After that, it was silent for a minute or two before Yn spoke up again.
Yn: "What are we having for dinner tonight, anyway?"
Chilli: "Well, since your grandma has been looking up old recipes and stuff, she thought it would be a good idea to make some good ol' Southern gumbo."
Chilli said, trying to say the last part in a Southern accent, but since she's Australian, it just sounded terrible.
Yn: "Oh, that sounds good. But, Ma? Do me a favor and never try to say it like that again, please."
Chilli's ears folded down as if Yn had just kicked her like a puppy.
Chilli: "Fine, party pooper."
Yn just rolled his eyes and laid his head down on her arm, which was resting on the center console. This made Chilli smile a little. After a few more minutes of driving, Yn and Chilli made it home. She put the car in park, grabbed the bag out of the back seat, and Yn unbuckled his seatbelt. He opened his door, quickly shut it, and made a run for the front door so he wouldn't get soaked in the rain. Chilli followed behind, running as well.
They both made it into the house, with Yn's fluffy hair now soaked in water and Chilli's fur even damper than it was earlier. They looked around the living room to see Calypso lying down on the couch in her work clothes, asleep, and Rosie in the kitchen preparing to cook dinner.
Not wanting to wake Calypso, Chilli quickly made her way to the kitchen. Meanwhile, Yn took his shoes off and placed them by the door. He took his wet shirt off and threw it in a nearby dirty clothes basket that was going to get washed soon. He did the same with his pants, leaving him in just his dry underwear. Still feeling tired, Yn walked over to the couch, sat down, and laid down with Calypso, snuggling against her.
Calypso opened one eye and saw him cuddling with her. She put her arm around him, pulled him closer, and went back to sleep. Meanwhile, in the kitchen, Chilli was putting stuff in the cabinets, and Rosie was still getting ready to cook.
Rosie: "So, how was the tour? Did Yn like the school?"
Chilli put everything in the cabinet, turned around, and took her wet shirt off. She walked near the kitchen entrance.
Chilli: "Like it? Ma, he loves it."
Rosie: "Then the tour went well?"
Rosie said as she chopped an onion.
Chilli, now shirtless and only wearing her bra and pants, turned to look at her mother.
Chilli: "Yeah, it went well. I even think Yn made a friend already."
Rosie: "Oh, that's good to hear. So, nobody said or tried anything?"
Chilli: "No, not really. All of Yn's teachers are nice, and other than some students giving curious looks, nobody gave us trouble."
Rosie: "That's good to hear. Now, honey, since it's going to take me an hour to get ready to cook-me and Calypso just got here a few minutes before you did-why don't you go freshen up with a shower? I'm sure you don't want your scent to get ruined with a wet dog smell."
Chilli sniffed her arms and quickly pulled back as she was already starting to smell like that.
Chilli: "Yeah, I guess you're right."
Chilli said as she walked out of the kitchen and into the living room. She saw Yn cuddling with Calypso, which brought a smile to her face.
Chilli headed upstairs and went into her room. She turned the light on and shut the door behind her. She took her pants off, leaving her in just her panties and bra. She walked into her bathroom, turned the shower on, and let it run for a minute so the water could get warm. While she waited, she slipped her panties off and unbuckled her bra, letting her furry breasts bounce a little as she removed it. Finally, she climbed into the shower, letting the warm water pour down on her fur, relaxing her after the long day.
Meanwhile, in the living room, Yn stirred slightly as the sound of the shower running echoed faintly through the house. He blinked sleepily, his head still resting against Calypso's side. She shifted a little in her sleep, her arm still draped protectively around him.
Yn: "auntie?"
Yn whispered, his voice barely audible. Calypso didn't respond, still deep in her nap. Yn sighed and closed his eyes again, deciding to stay where he was for a little longer. The warmth of the couch and the steady rise and fall of Calypso's breathing were too comforting to leave just yet.
In the kitchen, Rosie was busy preparing the ingredients for the gumbo. She had just finished chopping the vegetables and was now browning the sausage in a large pot. The savory aroma filled the air, making the house feel even cozier despite the storm outside.
Rosie: "Alright, let's see... onions, celery, bell peppers... and the roux should be ready by now."
She muttered to herself as she stirred the pot, her movements quick and practiced. Rosie glanced at the clock on the wall and realized it had been about fifteen minutes since Chilli had gone to shower.
Rosie: "She'll be out soon. Better get the rice started."
She moved to the rice cooker, measured out the grains, and added water. As she set it to cook, she glanced into the living room and saw Yn and Calypso still fast asleep on the couch.
Rosie: "Those two... they're out cold. Guess I'll let them rest a bit longer."
Rosie smiled softly and returned to her cooking, humming a quiet tune as she worked.
An hour passed, and the storm outside continued to pour. The sound of the rain hitting the windows was steady and soothing, adding to the peaceful atmosphere inside the house.
Chilli turned off the shower and stepped out, her fur completely soaked and clinging to her body. She grabbed a large, fluffy towel from the rack and began patting herself down, soaking up as much water as she could. Once her fur was damp rather than dripping, she reached for her fur brush-a special brush designed for her thick, soft coat-and began gently brushing through the tangles.
Chilli: "Ugh, this always takes forever, but it's worth it."
She muttered to herself as she worked, the brush gliding through her fur, leaving it smooth and fluffy. After a good ten minutes of brushing, she grabbed the blow dryer and began drying her fur completely, the warm air puffing it up even more.
Once her fur was dry and perfectly soft, Chilli walked over to her neatly folded clothes on the counter. She picked up a fresh set of pink bra and panties, slipping the panties on first. She carefully threaded her tail through the hole designed for anthro females, adjusting it until it was comfortable. Next, she snapped on her bra, making sure it fit snugly but not too tight.
Chilli: "There. Much better."
She smiled at her reflection in the mirror, her fur now fluffy and her undergarments fitting perfectly. She grabbed the rest of her clothes-a comfortable T-shirt and a pair of soft pants-and quickly put them on.
Chilli opened the bathroom door and stepped into her bedroom, which was located upstairs. She glanced at the clock on her nightstand and realized she'd been in the bathroom for over an hour.
Chilli: "Whoops. Better get downstairs before they start without me."
She walked out of her room and down the stairs, her footsteps soft against the wooden steps. As she reached the bottom, she could hear the faint sound of laughter and conversation coming from the kitchen.
Meanwhile, in the living room, Yn and Calypso were still fast asleep on the couch. The sound of the blow dryer had stirred Yn slightly, but he quickly drifted back to sleep, his head resting against Calypso's side.
In the kitchen, Rosie was busy preparing the gumbo, the savory aroma filling the air. She glanced at the clock and realized it had been over an hour since Chilli had gone to shower.
Rosie: "She's really taking her time in there. Must be brushing her fur again."
Rosie chuckled to herself and continued cooking, stirring the roux carefully to make sure it didn't burn.
Finally, Chilli walked into the kitchen, her fur now perfectly brushed, dried, and fluffy. She looked refreshed and relaxed as she approached the stove.
Chilli: "Smells amazing in here. Need any help?"
Rosie: "Just in time. Can you check on the roux for me? I need to make sure it doesn't burn."
Chilli nodded and took over stirring the pot while Rosie checked on the rice. Yn and Calypso, still asleep on the couch, began to stir as the smell of food filled the house.
Yn: "Mmm... what's that smell?"
Yn sat up slowly, rubbing his eyes.
Yn stood up and stretched, then noticed he was still only in his underwear.
Yn: "Oops. Better get dressed before Grandma sees me like this."
He tiptoed upstairs to his room, grabbed a clean T-shirt and shorts, and quickly changed. As he came back downstairs, he saw Rosie placing the final touches on the gumbo.
Rosie: "Ah, there you are, Yn. I was about to wake you and Calypso. Dinner's ready."
Yn: "Sorry, Grandma. I didn't mean to sleep so long."
Rosie: "No worries, sweetheart. You looked like you needed the rest. Now, go wake up your auntie, and let's eat."
Yn walked back to the living room and gently shook Calypso's shoulder.
Yn: "Auntie Calypso, dinner's ready."
Calypso groaned softly and opened her eyes, blinking up at Yn.
Calypso: "Gumbo, huh? Alright, I'm coming."
She stood up and followed Yn to the kitchen, where the table was now fully set, and the food was being placed in the center. The storm outside continued to rage, but inside, the house was warm, cozy, and filled with the comforting smells of home-cooked food.
Chilli, now fully dressed and looking refreshed, smiled as she stirred the pot one last time.
Chilli: "Alright, everyone, dig in!"
The family gathered around the table, laughter and conversation filling the room as they enjoyed their meal together
After dinner, the family split off to relax and unwind. Rosie and Calypso stayed in the kitchen to clean up, while Yn and Chilli made their way to the living room. The storm outside had calmed to a gentle rain, the rhythmic patter against the windows creating a soothing backdrop.
Yn flopped down on the couch, still buzzing with excitement from the day. He grabbed the remote and flipped through the channels, looking for something to watch.
Yn: "Ma, what do you wanna watch? There's a new superhero movie on, or we could watch that nature documentary about wolves."
Chilli walked over, carrying a bowl of popcorn she'd just popped. She set it down on the coffee table and sat beside him, leaning back into the cushions.
Chilli: "Hmm, tough choice. How about the nature documentary? I could use something relaxing after today."
Yn: "Sounds good to me."
He clicked on the documentary, and the screen lit up with sweeping shots of a snowy forest. The narrator's calm voice filled the room as the camera zoomed in on a pack of wolves moving through the trees.
Yn shifted closer to Chilli, resting his head against her shoulder. Her fur was soft and warm, and he instinctively reached up to run his fingers through it, something he'd done since he was little.
Chilli: "Comfy?"
Yn: "Yeah. Your fur's always so soft, Ma. It's like having a built-in blanket."
Chilli chuckled, wrapping an arm around him and pulling him closer.
Chilli: "Glad I could be of service. You know, you used to do this all the time when you were little. You'd fall asleep on my lap, and I'd have to carry you to bed."
Yn: "I remember. You always smelled like vanilla and... I don't know, something warm. It was comforting."
Chilli: "Vanilla, huh? Must've been my shampoo. You've always had a good nose."
They fell silent for a moment, watching as the wolves on screen played together in the snow. Yn absently twirled a strand of Chilli's fur around his finger, his mind wandering.
Yn: "Ma?"
Chilli: "Hmm?"
Yn: "Do you think I'll do okay at school? I mean, I know I've got Nia and everything, but... what if I'm not good at it? What if I mess up?"
Chilli looked down at him, her expression softening. She gave his shoulder a gentle squeeze.
Chilli: "Yn, you're going to do just fine. Everyone feels nervous when they start something new. But you're smart, kind, and you've got a good heart. Those are the things that matter most. The rest-grades, schedules, all that-you'll figure it out as you go."
Yn: "But what if I'm not as smart as the other kids? What if I fall behind?"
Chilli: "You're plenty smart, kiddo. And if you ever need help, you've got me, your grandma, and Auntie Calypso. Plus, your teachers sound like they really care about their students. You're not alone in this, okay?"
Yn nodded, his fingers still playing with her fur.
Yn: "Okay. Thanks, Ma."
Chilli: "Anytime, sweetheart. That's what I'm here for."
They turned their attention back to the documentary, the narrator now explaining how the wolves worked together to hunt and protect their pack. Yn watched intently, his earlier worries fading as he got lost in the story.
Yn: "You know, wolves are kinda like us. They stick together and look out for each other. That's what families do, right?"
Chilli: "Exactly. And just like them, we've got each other's backs. No matter what happens, you'll always have us."
Yn smiled, feeling a warmth spread through him. He snuggled closer to Chilli, his head resting against her chest.
Yn: "I'm glad you're my mom."
Chilli's breath hitched for a moment, and she pressed a kiss to the top of his head.
Chilli: "I'm glad you're my son."
They stayed like that for a while, the documentary playing in the background. The rain outside had slowed to a gentle drizzle, and the house was quiet except for the occasional crunch of popcorn.
Yn: "Ma?"
Chilli: "Yeah?"
Yn: "Do you think I'll ever be as brave as you?"
Chilli laughed softly, her fingers gently running through his hair.
Chilli: "Yn, you're already braver than you think. Starting school, making new friends, trying new things-that takes courage. And you're doing it. You're already braver than most people I know."
Yn: "Really?"
Chilli: "Really. You've got a big heart, and that's what makes you strong. Don't ever forget that."
Yn smiled, feeling a sense of pride swell in his chest. He turned his attention back to the TV, where the wolves were now howling at the moon.
Yn: "I hope I can howl like that one day."
Chilli: "Well, maybe not literally. But you've got your own way of standing tall and being heard. And that's just as powerful."
They laughed together, the sound blending with the narrator's voice and the soft patter of rain. For the rest of the movie, they stayed like that-curled up on the couch, wrapped in each other's warmth.
As the documentary continued, Yn's eyelids grew heavier. The warmth of Chilli's fur, the soothing sound of the narrator's voice, and the gentle rhythm of the rain outside lulled him into a deep sense of comfort. His fingers, which had been absently twirling a strand of Chilli's fur, stilled as his breathing slowed.
Chilli noticed the change almost immediately. She glanced down and saw Yn's eyes fluttering closed, his head resting heavily against her chest. A soft smile tugged at her lips as she gently brushed a strand of hair from his forehead.
Chilli: "Yn?"
She whispered his name, but there was no response. He was already asleep, his face peaceful and relaxed.
Chilli carefully shifted, trying not to wake him as she reached for the remote and turned off the TV. The room fell into a quiet stillness, broken only by the soft sound of Yn's breathing and the occasional creak of the house settling.
She sat there for a moment, just holding him. It wasn't often that Yn fell asleep like this anymore-he was growing up so fast, and moments like these felt rare and precious. Chilli closed her eyes, savoring the warmth of his small body against hers, the way his breath rose and fell in a steady rhythm.
Eventually, she knew she had to move him to his bed. As much as she wanted to let him sleep right there, the couch wasn't the most comfortable place for a full night's rest.
Chilli: "Alright, kiddo. Let's get you to bed."
She whispered the words softly, more to herself than to him, and carefully slid her arms under his body. Yn stirred slightly, mumbling something incoherent, but he didn't wake. Chilli stood, lifting him with ease, and adjusted him so his head rested against her shoulder.
As she turned to head upstairs, she heard the soft creak of the kitchen door opening. Calypso and Rosie stepped into the living room, their voices hushed as they saw Chilli carrying Yn.
Calypso: "Out cold, huh?"
She smirked, crossing her arms as she leaned against the doorway.
Chilli: "Yeah. He was snuggling into my fur, and next thing I knew, he was out like a light."
Rosie smiled, her eyes softening as she looked at Yn.
Rosie: "He's had a big day. It's no wonder he's tired."
Chilli nodded, shifting Yn's weight slightly in her arms.
Chilli: "Yeah. He's excited about school, but I can tell he's nervous too. He asked me if he'd do okay... if he'd make friends."
Calypso: "Kid's got nothing to worry about. He's got a good head on his shoulders, and he's got us. He'll be fine."
Rosie: "She's right. Yn's a smart, kind boy. He'll find his place, just like he always does."
Chilli sighed, her gaze dropping to Yn's sleeping face.
Chilli: "I know. It's just... hard watching him grow up. I want to protect him from everything, but I know I can't. He's got to figure some things out on his own."
Calypso: "Yeah, but that's part of it, isn't it? You can't hold his hand forever. But you can be there to catch him when he falls."
Rosie: "And he'll always have us. No matter what happens, we'll be here to support him."
Chilli smiled, feeling a swell of gratitude for her family.
Chilli: "Thanks, you two. I don't know what I'd do without you."
Calypso: "Probably lose your mind. But hey, that's what we're here for."
She grinned, and Chilli rolled her eyes, though her smile didn't fade.
Rosie: "Go on, get him to bed. We'll clean up down here."
Chilli: "Thanks, Ma."
She adjusted Yn in her arms again and started toward the stairs. As she climbed, she could hear Calypso and Rosie talking softly in the living room, their voices fading as she reached the top.
Yn's room was at the end of the hallway, the door slightly ajar. Chilli nudged it open with her foot and stepped inside. The room was dimly lit by the soft glow of a nightlight shaped like a crescent moon, casting a warm, golden light across the walls.
She walked over to the bed and gently laid Yn down, pulling the covers up over him. He stirred slightly, his face scrunching up as he mumbled something in his sleep.
Yn: "Ma...?"
Chilli: "Shh, I'm here, sweetheart. Go back to sleep."
She smoothed his hair back from his forehead and pressed a kiss to his temple. Yn's face relaxed, and he settled back into the pillows, his breathing steady and even.
Chilli stood there for a moment, just watching him. He looked so small in the big bed, his fluffy hair tousled and his cheeks slightly flushed from sleep. It was moments like these that reminded her how much he was still her little boy, even as he grew older and more independent.
She reached down and tucked the blanket more securely around him, making sure he was warm and comfortable.
Chilli: "Sweet dreams, Yn."
She whispered the words softly, her voice barely audible, and then turned to leave. As she reached the door, she paused and looked back one last time. Yn was still asleep, his face peaceful and content.
Chilli smiled and stepped out into the hallway, pulling the door closed behind her. She took a deep breath, feeling a mix of emotions-pride, love, and a touch of bittersweetness as she thought about how quickly he was growing up.
When she returned to the living room, Calypso and Rosie were sitting on the couch, a cup of tea in Rosie's hands and a smirk on Calypso's face.
Calypso: "All tucked in?"
Chilli: "Yeah. He didn't even wake up."
Rosie: "Good. He needs the rest."
Chilli nodded and sat down in the armchair across from them, leaning back with a sigh.
Chilli: "Yeah. I just hope he's ready."
Calypso: "He's ready. You've done a good job with him, Chilli. He's a great kid."
Rosie: "She's right. You've raised him well. He's kind, thoughtful, and he's got a good head on his shoulders. He'll do just fine."
Chilli smiled, feeling a swell of pride at their words.
Chilli: "Thanks, you two. That means a lot."
Calypso: "Anytime. Now, how about we finish this tea and call it a night? I don't know about you, but I'm beat."
Rosie: "Agreed. It's been a long day."
Chilli nodded and stood, stretching her arms above her head.
Chilli: "Sounds good to me. Let's clean up and head to bed."
The three of them worked together to tidy up the living room, putting away the popcorn bowl and turning off the lights. As they made their way upstairs, the house fell into a peaceful quiet, the only sound the soft patter of rain against the windows.
Chilli paused outside Yn's door, peeking in to check on him one last time. He was still asleep, his chest rising and falling in a steady rhythm.
Chilli: "Goodnight, Yn."
She whispered the words softly and then closed the door, heading to her own room.
