The sound of Li Changfeng's response came just as Chen Yinuo pushed the door open.
"President Li!"
"Eh? Sister-in-law, why are you here?"
The moment he realized it was Chen Yinuo, Li Changfeng hurriedly put down his documents and stood up from his executive chair.
"Come, take a seat over here on the couch!"
Under Li Changfeng's enthusiastic greeting, Chen Yinuo smiled faintly and walked toward the nearby couch.
"Sister-in-law, would you like some tea?" Li Changfeng eagerly offered.
Seeing this, Chen Yinuo couldn't help but let out a bitter laugh.
This doesn't feel like a boss-employee relationship at all.
While the unusual treatment left her slightly uneasy, she couldn't understand why. Other employees treating her differently was one thing, but Li Changfeng's behavior was particularly excessive.
Even though he was friends with Ye Chen, their acquaintance was still relatively new. Did that really warrant this kind of attitude?
What she didn't realize was that, in the eyes of Li Changfeng and Zhang Jingshan, things were different.
Setting aside the fact that Ye Chen had helped them make over a hundred million and practically saved their lives, Ye Chen's almost godlike foresight was enough to earn their utmost respect. To them, treating Chen Yinuo this way was entirely justified.
"President Li, no need for tea. I just came to talk to you about something," Chen Yinuo quickly said.
"Oh? Go ahead." Li Changfeng paused in his tea-making.
"President Li, I'm here to resign."
"Resign?" Li Changfeng was visibly shocked.
He had long anticipated that his company might not retain Chen Yinuo for long. After all, Ye Chen was now a man of substantial wealth, and with his extraordinary business acumen, his current net worth was just the starting point.
As Ye Chen's wife, it was easy to guess that her time at his modest company would be limited.
"Yes, yesterday's incident at the Carlton Hotel somehow got out, and now everyone in the company knows about it. From the moment I walked in this morning, their excessive enthusiasm was overwhelming. To be honest, it feels like the dynamics of my relationships with everyone have shifted in a way I'm not comfortable with. After thinking it over, I've decided to resign," Chen Yinuo explained candidly.
Li Changfeng was both surprised and understanding.
If the events at the Carlton Hotel were public knowledge, it was natural for employees to view her as a "golden connection" and try to curry favor. Such behavior was only human. But from her perspective, wanting to avoid such situations was equally reasonable.
"Have you told Brother Ye about this?" Li Changfeng nodded empathetically.
"Not yet. I'll tell him when I get home. He did mention before that I could quit if I wanted to, but I didn't think it was necessary at the time," said Chen Yinuo.
"Alright, I understand. Let's go with your decision," Li Changfeng said with a faint smile.
"Thank you, President Li. I'll hand over my tasks to the deputy team leader and won't be coming in after today," said Chen Yinuo.
"No need to stress about handing over tasks. Do whatever's most convenient for you," Li Changfeng replied.
"Okay, President Li, I'll go get started on the handover now."
After leaving Li Changfeng's office, Chen Yinuo returned to the business cooperation team and began transferring her responsibilities to the deputy team leader.
With this, her years at Huaxing Trade Company came to an end.
Meanwhile, Ye Chen, unaware of her resignation, had left "A" and postponed his acquisition meeting to the next day. After a trip to the market, he returned home with bags full of ingredients.
He spent the entire afternoon in the kitchen preparing a new four-dish, one-soup meal for his family.
Just after six in the evening, Ye Youyou came home with her little backpack.
"Wow, something smells amazing!"
She tossed her bag onto the cabinet and climbed onto a dining chair, eagerly sniffing the food on the table.
"Go wash your hands!" Ye Chen chuckled, removing his apron.
"Okay!" The little girl scurried off to wash her hands.
"Ye Chen, I have something to tell you," said Chen Yinuo as she walked into the room.
"Perfect timing. I've got something to tell you too. Wash up first, and we'll talk over dinner," Ye Chen said with a smile, noticing her calm expression.
"Alright, sure," she said with a faint smile.
Moments later, the family of three sat down to a warm dinner together.
"I've resigned from Huaxing Trade," said Chen Yinuo, breaking the silence before picking up her chopsticks.
Ye Chen paused, surprised. "That's quite the coincidence."
She explained, "The incident at the Carlton Hotel yesterday made everyone in the company think I have an incredibly powerful husband. Their flattery and enthusiasm were just too much. I didn't know how to handle it, so I decided it was better to leave."
To her surprise, Ye Chen simply smiled and shook his head.
"What are you laughing at?" she asked, puzzled.
"I was going to tell you to quit Huaxing Trade," Ye Chen replied.
"You're joking, right?"
"Nope. I was planning to suggest it anyway. I'm acquiring a small skincare company tomorrow, and I want you to manage it."
"You're kidding! Buying a company just so I can manage it? That's... crazy!"
"It's not crazy. Think of it as practice. You studied business management and marketing in college. This is the perfect opportunity to put your skills to use," said Ye Chen.
"You're doing all this just for me to 'practice'? Is it really necessary?"
"It is. Besides, this isn't a spur-of-the-moment decision. I'm preparing for the launch of Wuxia Cream. The company I'm looking at is fully structured, with a systematic operation and its own production facility. Acquiring it will save us time and effort, allowing you to familiarize yourself with management. By the time Wuxia Cream launches, you'll be ready to take the helm."
"Wuxia Cream is almost ready?" she asked excitedly.
"Not yet, but it's nearing completion. That's why I want to set things in motion now."
"Do you really think I can do it?" she hesitated.
"With me by your side, you have nothing to worry about," Ye Chen said confidently.
Her self-doubt began to fade as she asked, "How big is this company? How much will the acquisition cost?"
"Not too big. It's a transitional step. The cost shouldn't exceed two hundred million," Ye Chen said.
"Two hundred million?!"
Though she expected a hefty price tag, the figure still made her gasp.
"Once Wuxia Cream is out, two hundred million will be a drop in the bucket," Ye Chen reassured her. "Tomorrow, we'll meet with the company together."
"Alright."
Elsewhere, in the community where the Chen family lived, gossip buzzed among the elderly beneath a large banyan tree:
"Hey, did you hear? Old Chen's son-in-law has made it big!"
"Of course! They say even the grandson of Jiangzhou's former Party Secretary calls him 'Brother.' One phone call, and he's at their service!"
"Well, well. Old Chen and his wife must be regretting all the awful things they said about their daughter and her family now!"
Unbeknownst to them, Liu Xueqin, passing by on her way home, heard every word.
Her fury boiled over as she stormed toward the gossiping crowd.
