It's here!
The roar of a Mercedes-Benz G-Class announced its arrival.
President Guo instinctively adjusted his attire but did not rush forward to greet the guests.
Standing there awaiting their arrival was a gesture of respect in itself. Anything more would feel like a compromise of his status—something unnecessary, given their equal footing in this partnership.
The senior executives surrounding President Guo, including the newly appointed vice president and the marketing manager, couldn't hide their unease.
New leadership brings new dynamics. President Guo might be planning to cash out and leave, but they were determined to maintain their positions under the incoming leadership.
Their anxiety was palpable.
From the approaching G-Class, Ye Chen observed the cluster of people gathered at the entrance of the building. He chuckled, finding their readiness convenient—it saved the hassle of back-and-forth negotiations.
"Let's go, Yinuo," he said, stepping out of the car alongside Chen Yinuo.
As they walked closer, both their expressions shifted dramatically.
There they were: Yang Di, previously the sales manager at Zhang Jingshan's company, and Wang Tao, once the vice president at Li Changfeng's firm.
The coincidence was almost unbelievable.
While Ye Chen and Chen Yinuo's faces darkened, Yang Di and Wang Tao, now holding senior roles at Lezi Company, were equally stunned. Their eyes widened with disbelief and dread, their bodies trembling and faces pale.
Could it really be them here to acquire Lezi Company? No, impossible! It couldn't be!
Fear and resentment mixed within them, leaving them speechless.
"You must be Mr. Ye Chen?" President Guo broke the tension by stepping forward with a smile, extending his hand to Ye Chen.
"Hello, Mr. Guo," Ye Chen replied, his expression returning to normal as he shook hands with him.
"And this is?" President Guo gestured towards Chen Yinuo.
"My wife, Chen Yinuo," Ye Chen explained with a smile.
"Mrs. Ye, a pleasure to meet you!" President Guo greeted politely.
"Mr. Guo, you're too kind," Chen Yinuo responded graciously.
"Shall we head inside to review the company's situation?" President Guo offered, steering the conversation to business.
But Ye Chen shook his head playfully. "Not just yet. Let's take care of something first."
With those words, Ye Chen moved past the puzzled President Guo toward the group of Lezi executives.
"Mr. Ye, good day!" The executives greeted him with varying degrees of nervousness.
Ye Chen stopped in front of Wang Tao and Yang Di, his tone laced with amusement. "Well, isn't this a small world?"
He hadn't forgotten their earlier attempts to undermine Chen Yinuo—using every dirty trick to pressure her into submission. Letting go of such a grudge wasn't an option for him.
Without prior interaction, he might have overlooked them. But with history like theirs, there was no chance of reconciliation.
"How could it be you?! Impossible!" Wang Tao's resentment burned brighter than Yang Di's.
Having clawed his way to vice president at Huaxing Commerce, only to lose it—and his dignity—thanks to Ye Chen and his wife, his hatred was boundless.
He had since landed a vice president role at Lezi Company, but it paled in comparison to his former position. Worse, the humiliation of his public dismissal had made him a laughingstock.
Wang Tao's rage boiled. If he could, he would gladly destroy Ye Chen.
"Why not me?" Ye Chen replied with a teasing smile.
"Mr. Guo, do you know these two?" Ye Chen asked casually.
President Guo hesitated, clearly confused. "You know them?"
"Yes," Ye Chen said bluntly. "They've both been on the receiving end of my fists."
"What?" President Guo was dumbfounded.
"Oh, it's simple. They abused their authority to harass my wife, spread rumors, and defame her. In the end, they got what they deserved: a beating and unemployment. Honestly, Mr. Guo, hiring people like this for your company? A bit of a risk, don't you think?"
Hearing this, President Guo's confusion turned to disbelief.
"Don't listen to him, Mr. Guo!" Yang Di panicked, yelling in desperation. "He's a liar! Just a gambling addict and drunkard! There's no way he can afford to acquire this company!"
Wang Tao quickly chimed in, his voice shaking. "Exactly! He's a nobody! If you believe him, you'll regret it!"
Their frantic denials only deepened the suspicion among the other executives, who exchanged knowing glances. Ye Chen's composure—and his Mercedes—painted a very different picture.
"Mr. Guo," Ye Chen said with a smirk, "if people like them can hold senior positions in your company, I can't imagine how bad things must be internally. I want to acquire Lezi Company, but I'm not here to deal with a mess."
His words sent President Guo into a panic.
"Mr. Ye, please don't misunderstand! They've only been with us for a month. I admit I didn't vet them thoroughly, but I assure you, Lezi is not a mess. These two are the exception, not the rule!"
"In that case," Ye Chen said coldly, "I want them gone. Now."
"Absolutely, absolutely!" President Guo agreed, hurriedly leading Ye Chen and his wife into the building while issuing orders to security to bar Wang Tao and Yang Di from entering.
Eager to finalize the deal, President Guo wasn't about to let these two liabilities jeopardize the transaction.
"Mr. Ye, Lezi Company may not be long-established, but among companies of its caliber, our structure and systems are unparalleled. Please, this way to the conference room. I've prepared all the relevant documents for your review."
After a brief tour of the company's departments, President Guo and a few senior executives accompanied Ye Chen and his wife to the conference room.
