"Yuyu, hang on a bit, okay? Daddy needs to take a call first!"
Hearing his phone ring near the piano, Ye Chen smiled and stepped away, picking it up and heading to the balcony.
"Hello, Chairman He!"
Answering He Wan'an's call, Ye Chen spoke with a light smile.
"Mr. Ye—no, Benefactor Ye—I, He Wan'an, am on my knees to thank you!"
He Wan'an's voice was still trembling, his fear and relief evident. Despite his years of experience in business giving him a calm demeanor, he couldn't control himself this time.
"Hmm? Have you figured it out? Was my hunch right?" Ye Chen asked seriously.
"Mr. Ye, after an investigation, we discovered a gas pipeline leak and a malfunction in the warning system. If not for your reminder and the closure for inspections, once the kitchen operations began, the consequences... I can't even imagine!" He Wan'an stammered, his voice quivering.
Before Ye Chen could reply, He Wan'an continued. "Mr. Ye, you didn't just save innocent lives; you saved me, He Wan'an, and the entire Wan'an Group!"
As his emotions gradually settled, He Wan'an's voice became steadier. Though countless questions about Ye Chen's uncanny accuracy swirled in his mind, he didn't dare ask them. After all, compared to surviving this crisis, nothing else mattered.
"Chairman He, you're too kind. I just had a strange, inexplicable intuition, and it seemed so far-fetched that even I doubted it. Honestly, you're the one who deserves credit for choosing to believe me. If it were anyone else, they probably wouldn't have!" Ye Chen responded with a calm smile.
"Mr. Ye, there's no way to repay this favor adequately. I, He Wan'an, owe you a great debt! Although I'm not a major player in Jiangzhou's business world and the Wan'an Group isn't particularly prominent, if you ever need anything, just say the word, and I'll do my utmost!" He Wan'an vowed earnestly.
"Alright then, I'll thank you in advance. If I ever need your help, I won't hesitate to ask!" Ye Chen replied with a light laugh, not bothering with excessive politeness.
"Good. I won't disturb you further, Mr. Ye!"
After hanging up, He Wan'an fell into deep thought. After a moment, he slammed his palm onto the sofa.
"All those so-called feng shui masters are frauds! If it weren't for Ye Chen—if I hadn't believed him—Wan'an Group could have been ruined on the opening day of Hongyan Restaurant!"
Beside him, a noblewoman gently took his hand.
"Old He, don't say that. Turning disaster into fortune—isn't that also part of feng shui?"
He Wan'an paused at her words, rendered speechless.
"Let's wait for the results from Ninghai. If someone tampered with things, that's one matter. But if no one did... then Ye Chen... he's truly extraordinary!"
Back at the villa, Ye Chen returned to find Chen Yinuo curious. "Who were you talking to?"
"Chairman He Wan'an of Wan'an Group," Ye Chen said casually.
"Who? The chairman of Wan'an Group, the leader in Jiangzhou's dining industry?" Chen Yinuo was stunned.
"Surprised?" Ye Chen teased.
"Wait—how do you know him? And why is he calling you?" she asked incredulously.
"Well, Wan'an Group's Hongyan Restaurant had its grand opening today. I went there with Zhang Jingshan and Li Changfeng, ran into Chairman He, exchanged numbers, and gave him some advice. That's why he called!" Ye Chen fabricated lightly.
Hearing this, Chen Yinuo froze in thought.
Lately, she'd noticed Ye Chen's seemingly extraordinary luck. First, he connected with figures like Zhang Jingshan and Li Changfeng. Then there was the retired Secretary Zhang Weimin, followed by the police squad leader. Now even He Wan'an was reaching out to him.
Did Ye Chen have some kind of magnetism?
Little did she know that Ye Chen also had ties with Xu Jia, the chairman of Hengda Group, who sought to hire him as a consultant. Even the city's current Party Secretary Yan Huaili had shared a meal and chatted amicably with him. If she knew, she'd be even more bewildered.
Snapping out of her daze, Chen Yinuo suddenly changed the subject. "Tomorrow is your high school reunion, right?"
"Is tomorrow Saturday already? I almost forgot!" Ye Chen chuckled wryly.
Rolling her eyes at him, Chen Yinuo added, "Just don't get too carried away. It's just a gathering—no need to make a scene. If you ask me, it's not worth the trouble. Go, show your face, and then catch up with the teachers privately if you want."
"Hmm? Are you predicting trouble for me?" Ye Chen teased.
"High school reunions are all the same. I went to one three years ago. While the drama wasn't aimed at me, it was disgusting enough to leave a bad taste," Chen Yinuo said.
"Don't worry. I'll handle it," Ye Chen replied with a playful smile.
"Handle it? How?" she asked.
"Simple—just don't bother me."
"And if they do?" she pressed.
"Then I'll teach them a lesson," Ye Chen replied.
That night, while Chen Yinuo slept peacefully, Ye Chen lay awake, pondering whether to consider having a second child. After some thought, he decided to hold off for now.
As the night deepened, a WeChat notification interrupted his thoughts. Unsurprisingly, it was from Lin Mengxi.
[Old classmate, tomorrow at 6 PM, Prosperity Room, 6th floor of Antai Hotel. Don't be late! 😊😊😊]
Ye Chen casually replied with a single "Got it" before ending the conversation.
His connection with Lin Mengxi had been sparse since they reunited at a real estate office during his house purchase. Though she had tried to meet up multiple times since then, he always found an excuse to decline. Even after he mentioned his wife and child, she seemed to ignore the information altogether.
This left only two possibilities: either Lin Mengxi genuinely valued their friendship, or she didn't care about his marital status. Ye Chen believed the latter was far more likely.
After all, this was the same Lin Mengxi who, back in high school, snuck off with a second-generation official while maintaining a facade of purity and rejecting his confession with the excuse of prioritizing academics.
Thinking back to her scheming ways, Ye Chen couldn't help but shake his head.
