"Good afternoon, Young Master Qin!"
Ye Chen pressed the answer button.
"Mr. Ye, fortune is really smiling upon you!"
Qin Lang's voice came through, his tone playful, but there was a faint bitterness to his laughter.
If he hadn't come to Jiangzhou ten days ago to visit the He family, he wouldn't have crossed paths with Ye Chen.
If he hadn't signed that 1.4 billion yuan order with Ye Chen...
Well, he wouldn't need to make this call now!
"Hmm? Young Master Qin, what do you mean by that?" Ye Chen chuckled, feigning ignorance.
"Mr. Ye, people always say when luck strikes, you can't stop it. Now I truly understand just how unstoppable your luck is!" Qin Lang said.
"Come on, stop keeping me in suspense! What is it?" Ye Chen pretended to be clueless.
"Alright, no more suspense. Here's the deal – there's been heavy rain across Europe for days, and today severe floods broke out. This might affect the wine production at European vineyards. The 40,000 bottles you ordered from our Qin Foreign Trade might appreciate in value!"
Qin Lang continued, "Because of your relationship with Young Master He, I'm being upfront with you. There's a chance this flood will impact production, and I wanted to let you know directly. Here's the deal – could you sell those 40,000 bottles back to us? You won't lose out. The contract was for 1.4 billion yuan, but we're willing to repurchase at 1.28 billion yuan. You'd make a clean profit of 14 million yuan. What do you think?"
After a pause, Qin Lang added, "Mr. Ye, this is a gamble. We're betting that the flood will reduce production in Europe. But right now, no one knows how severe the impact on vineyards will be. The wineries haven't issued any official statements yet."
Ye Chen, however, smirked silently.
A profit of 14 million yuan?
That was far from enough for him!
"Young Master Qin, if you're willing to gamble, I might as well join in. If the flood leads to significant production cuts or even halts, the price will skyrocket. A 10% increase would be just the beginning!" Ye Chen laughed heartily.
Qin Lang fell silent.
Isn't this a bit too much?
A 1.4 billion yuan contract, and he hadn't even paid a single cent of the deposit.
It's only been ten days since signing, and he's already looking at a 14 million yuan profit. What more does he want?
But Qin Lang couldn't say that aloud.
After all, the contract was clear as day.
"Mr. Ye, what price do you have in mind for selling them back?" Qin Lang asked.
"Young Master Qin, it's too early to discuss this. We met through Shao Cong, and this deal exists because of our mutual connections. You treated me like a friend, even waived the deposit. I appreciate that. Because of our friendship, I wouldn't take advantage of you like that. As you said, it's uncertain whether the floods will actually affect production."
Ye Chen replied smoothly, "I can't just profit from nothing. What if nothing happens? If production isn't impacted, you'd lose 14 million yuan for no reason. I couldn't live with that."
Qin Lang was ready to scream.
I want you to take advantage of me!
I want you to profit for nothing!
How did this turn into him worrying about my conscience?
It wasn't unreasonable for Qin Lang to feel frustrated.
Even though he said it was a gamble, industry experts believed the floods would inevitably impact European vineyards, reducing wine production.
Even if European wineries hadn't made announcements yet, price hikes were almost certain. Premium wines in the 3,000–5,000 yuan range would see the sharpest increases.
But Ye Chen wasn't budging.
They couldn't force him to resell, nor could they break the contract.
As if sensing Qin Lang's internal struggle, Ye Chen chuckled.
"How about this, Young Master Qin – let's wait a few days. We'll see if the floods actually drive up wine prices. If the price doesn't rise, there's no need for you to repurchase. But if it skyrockets, I'll feel justified making a profit."
Hearing this, Qin Lang smiled bitterly.
If prices do surge, it won't just cost 14 million to repurchase.
But there was nothing more to say.
"Alright then. We'll call you once the shipment arrives at port," Qin Lang said.
"Sounds good!"
After some polite farewells, the call ended.
At Qin Foreign Trade in Shanghai, Qin Lang sat in his office.
"He won't sell?" his secretary frowned.
"He's playing the long game. Definitely not an ordinary guy. But that makes sense – if he were ordinary, the He family wouldn't treat him so seriously, nor would he have taken on a 1.4 billion yuan order without hesitation. A mere 14 million profit isn't enough for him." Qin Lang sighed.
"I just can't figure it out. How is his luck this incredible? As soon as our shipment left for Asia, Europe was hit by floods – and of all places, France, Italy, and Spain took the hardest hit!"
His secretary had nothing to add.
Initially, she had been worried about the size of the order.
After all, they didn't know much about Ye Chen.
But now, even offering 14 million for repurchase wasn't enough to sway him.
She wasn't foolish – from Qin Lang's words, she realized that once the shipment reached domestic shores, the price would soar far beyond 10%.
So, what could she say?
Some people just have extraordinary luck.
