"Can Wang Tao's words be trusted?"
Li Changfeng didn't even need to think; he could tell right away that this guy was distorting the truth.
Although he hadn't known Ye Chen for long, he knew enough about his character.
Someone like Ye Chen would never act impulsively.
He was about to speak up for Ye Chen instinctively.
But when he saw Ye Chen subtly shake his head, Li Changfeng immediately swallowed the words "Mr. Ye" that were about to leave his mouth.
At the same time, Chen Yinuo hastily stepped forward to explain.
"Mr. Li, it's not like he said at all! He's twisting the facts! This is the second time he's done this—first at the office, and now again here!"
"Team Leader Chen, why don't you explain the situation?" Li Changfeng said seriously.
"Mr. Li, Vice President Wang was dissatisfied with my promotion. In the office, he spread rumors, slandering me by claiming I used improper means to get promoted. I tolerated it! But now, while I was dining here with Ye Chen, we happened to run into him. He came over with sarcastic remarks and then repeated those baseless accusations. He implied that I used my connections with the CEO of Yuntian Company to secure the renewal of the promotional contract and my promotion. Then, he used that to humiliate Ye Chen. Ye Chen couldn't hold back and hit him!"
Before Li Changfeng could respond, Zhang Jingshan, who had just arrived, was stunned after hearing this.
"What? He dragged me into this?"
This wasn't just smearing Chen Yinuo; it was also tarnishing Zhang Jingshan's reputation!
"When did I ever slander you? Did I even mention Zhang's name? Did I call him out explicitly?" Wang Tao panicked, seeing Li Changfeng's darkening expression and Zhang Jingshan's unexpected appearance.
"Changfeng, I heard this guy calls your aunt his 'mom.' Is that true?" Zhang Jingshan asked sternly.
"Let's keep things separate!" Li Changfeng replied without hesitation.
Between Wang Tao and Chen Yinuo, there was no doubt—he trusted Chen Yinuo completely.
He knew exactly what kind of person Wang Tao was: arrogant and domineering, relying on his little bit of talent and familial connections to flaunt himself in the company.
In the past, Li Changfeng had tolerated it. Even when he learned that Wang Tao had deliberately made things difficult for Chen Yinuo, he endured it, thinking he'd have a private talk with him later.
But now, this incident had pushed his patience to the limit.
Ye Chen was his lifesaver, Chen Yinuo was Ye Chen's wife, and Zhang Jingshan was his best buddy.
Yet Wang Tao had the nerve to slander Chen Yinuo, humiliate Ye Chen, and even implicate Zhang Jingshan in the process!
It didn't matter if Wang Tao called his aunt "mom"—even if Wang Tao called his actual mother "mom," Li Changfeng would still stand his ground.
"Keep things separate, right? Alright, buddy, I appreciate it!" Zhang Jingshan nodded.
He strode toward Wang Tao.
"Mr. Zhang, Mr. Zhang!" Wang Tao stammered.
But Zhang Jingshan ignored him.
Grabbing Wang Tao by the hair with one hand, he slapped him repeatedly across the face with the other.
"You think you can talk nonsense, huh?"
"You think you can smear me, huh?"
One slap after another, Zhang Jingshan hit him until Wang Tao didn't dare to fight back.
"Mr. Zhang, I was wrong! I'm sorry, I'm sorry!" Wang Tao pleaded.
But Zhang Jingshan didn't stop until after delivering over ten slaps.
Finally, he exhaled deeply, turned to Chen Yinuo, and said, "Mr. Ye, Ms. Chen, I'm sorry. I didn't expect last time's contract signing to cause you such trouble!"
"Mr. Zhang, you're too kind! I can't thank you enough. Without that contract, I'd have been packing up and leaving by now," Chen Yinuo responded quickly.
Ye Chen, however, gave Zhang Jingshan a subtle look, signaling him not to say more in front of Chen Yinuo.
Zhang Jingshan got the hint, nodded, and turned to Li Changfeng.
"Changfeng, with someone like this in your company, are you seriously keeping him around? Just because he calls your aunt 'mom'? He's not only a petty man but also holds a high-ranking position. Be careful, or he might screw you over someday!"
Hearing this, Wang Tao's face turned pale with fear.
Before he could say anything, hurried footsteps approached.
Several police officers from the nearby district arrived.
"Who called the police? Who was hit?" the leading officer asked assertively.
"It's a misunderstanding. You can go back now," Zhang Jingshan said, turning to the officers.
"Uh, Mr. Zhang?"
Seeing Zhang Jingshan, the officers were taken aback.
Even though Mr. Zhang's grandfather, the former secretary, had retired for years, his reputation still carried weight, and by extension, so did Zhang Jingshan's.
"What Mr. Zhang? Don't give me such titles. I'm no big shot. Ask this fool over here if it's a misunderstanding!" Zhang Jingshan said dismissively, pointing at Wang Tao.
"Sir, did you call the police?" the officer asked Wang Tao, noticing his swollen face.
"It's a misunderstanding, a misunderstanding! Sorry for the trouble!" Wang Tao stammered.
"Are you sure it's a misunderstanding? No further issues?" the officer pressed.
"I'm sure! No issues at all!" Wang Tao nodded frantically.
"Alright then, but let me remind you—don't call the police so casually next time. Wasting police resources could be considered a false report!" the officer warned.
"Yes, yes, I was wrong!" Wang Tao replied quickly.
The officers left, not bothering to exchange further pleasantries with Zhang Jingshan.
Watching the officers leave, Chen Yinuo finally breathed a sigh of relief.
But while her burden was lifted, Wang Tao was still trembling.
Turning to Li Changfeng, he stuttered, "Mr. Li, I..."
"No need to say anything. Pack your things and leave Huaxing Trade. If your ability is lacking, I can give you a chance. But with poor character, I can't and won't keep you around," Li Changfeng said firmly.
