At four in the morning, James Lon lay in bed, unable to sleep. He used his senses to observe the movements of the survivors below. Most survivors from below the 21st floor had moved above the 22nd floor, sleeping in the hallways and stairwells. Someone was sneaking around, stealing others' belongings. Seeing that the victim was Aunt Green, James Lon felt a bit of comfort.

James Lon was surprised to find that from the 28th floor upward, originally populated with a few people, there was now only one survivor left after just one day. The others had gone out for food and never returned. The only remaining survivor was a girl living in Apartment 2803. She lay in bed, shaking, seemingly ill. Her body's light was dim, on the verge of extinguishing. A few minutes later, the girl stopped moving, and her light vanished as well. Another one dead.

James Lon remained unfazed. In the apocalypse, death was common.

At that moment, something surprising happened: a girl suddenly appeared in the deceased's room out of nowhere!

"Huh?" James Lon sat up, his expression serious.

"What's going on!"

He hadn't seen how the girl entered; it was as if she'd appeared out of thin air. Was it... an ability? Teleportation?

James Lon noticed that this girl did indeed have a "ginger" inside her. Its color was the same as that of the mutated frog: blue. She was an ability user! And she had teleportation abilities? That was incredibly powerful!

James Lon watched cautiously for a while. The light on the ability girl was not particularly bright, similar to Shirley's, suggesting she likely had no combat capability. James Lon hesitated no longer; using his mind, he passed through the bed and floor, landing on the 31st floor.

Teleportation was too dangerous! If she suddenly teleported into James Lon's room to assassinate him, it'd be hard for him to react in time. Even if she couldn't defeat him, she could drop a bomb and teleport away. A delayed reaction from James Lon could lead to unpredictable consequences! This girl's ability was formidable, be it for escaping or ambushing.

"Either submit to me or... face death!" James Lon's eyes glinted with determination as he descended through floors, quickly approaching the ability user's location.

A girl with twin tails peeked out from a blue membrane portal, whispering:

"Emma? Emma? I'm April Jones, I've come to save you!"

The room was silent. April Jones, frightened, shone her flashlight toward the bed but couldn't see clearly, so she gritted her teeth and jumped down. Gently walking to the bed, she found that her classmate Emma had already died. Emma's face was livid, her eyes wide open, a truly terrifying sight in the dark.

"Ugh~" April Jones was so scared she burst into tears, backing away quickly. The corpse remained motionless. Recovering from her fear, April Jones remembered she had seen many dead bodies since the apocalypse began, so she could somewhat cope now.

Since she had come all this way, it'd be a waste to leave empty-handed. Her portal could only be opened twice a day: once to come and once to return. April Jones bowed several times towards Emma's corpse, apologizing:

"Emma, if there's any food here, I'll just take it, alright? You probably couldn't eat it in any case, right?"

April spotted a backpack beside the pillow, containing an unopened pack of Oreos, likely found by Emma on her last outing.

"YEAH! Jackpot!" April Jones joyfully jumped up:

"Emma, thank you! I'm heading back now, goodbye."

With that, she tore open a blue membrane and disappeared through it.

A few seconds later, James Lon descended silently into the room.

"Gone so fast?" James Lon looked at the empty room, disappointed:

"Just a bit too late."

James Lon frowned secretly. If there were no unexpected factors, this girl must have gained her teleportation ability recently. If he could subdue her and activate historical return, he might be able to get the Enlightenment Fruit she consumed!

"But..." James Lon looked helplessly around the room. Her teleportation ability was too extraordinary; how could he find her? Having found food here, she'd probably return soon. I'll have to wait in ambush.

Turning his attention to the corpse on the bed, James Lon saw a black bite mark on her arm, emitting an unpleasant stench of decay. Presumably, it became infected, causing a fever that, combined with a lack of food, led to her death.

"What's the connection between the twin-tailed girl and her?"

James Lon had seen through his senses that the twin-tailed girl had bowed to the corpse, suggesting they knew each other. Searching the room, he found the backpack and some textbooks. The girl was named Emma, a freshman from the New York University Film School, studying stage design.

"Could they be classmates?" James Lon speculated.

He found Emma's phone by the pillow and used her finger to unlock it. Going through the call logs, he saw that Emma had called her parents dozens of times over the past few days, but all were unanswered. Her parents were probably deceased. Besides those, there were several calls with someone named April Jones. Emma's last call was made half an hour before her death, also to April Jones. The phone had automatic call recording enabled.

James Lon played the recording of their last call.

April Jones: "Hello, Emma! You're still alive? That's great!"

Emma: "April Jones, sob sob, can you come save me?"

April Jones: "Emma, what's wrong? Are you hungry?"

Emma: "I got bitten by a rat. I have a fever, sob sob, it hurts so much."

April Jones: "I'll try! Hang in there!"

Emma: "Come quickly, my phone battery is dying, I'm so scared."

...

James Lon listened to their past conversations.

April Jones: "Hello, Emma, I found a crate of milk today! I can't drink it all now, do you want some?"

Emma: "Thanks, April Jones, I still have a bit of food. Planes sprayed herbicide, a lot of people in the group said they'd go out for food tomorrow. I'll try too."

April Jones: "Alright. Let me know if you need help."

Emma: "Okay."

...

James Lon finished listening to the conversations, piecing together some information.

April Jones and Emma were classmates.

April Jones's teleportation ability seemed to have significant limitations, unable to be used many times a day, and the target points required caution, the reason unknown.

In the phone's photo album, James Lon found a group photo: April Jones, the twin-tailed girl, hugging Emma.

[April Jones]

[Ding! Criteria met for the system!]

James Lon's eyes shone brightly.

She's mine now!

To avoid any accidents during the capture of April Jones, James Lon decided not to allow other survivors onto the 28th floor. Of course, if she resisted fiercely, she must die; James Lon would not hold back.
