The ceremony came to close, I stood up and adjust everyone. Me: I appreciate the gifts and the kindness that the Ndlovu family provided for us. But I must make it here that I do not accept this lobola . I do not want to marry Nkosi , and I will not be part of this union.
[The room fell silent, and my parents looked at me with shock. The Ndlovu family looked at me with disappointment in anger , but I stood my ground, knowing I had to be true to myself]
Me: I know that this may cause tension and conflict between our families but I am willing to take that risk I will not be forced into a marriage that I do not want and I will not be bought and sold like I am nothing
[ as I finished speaking, the room erupted in us. My parents were trying to come to the family down and assure them that they will fix this , and the guests were all gossiping at once. But I just do, feeling a sense of pride and determination. I had taken a stand and would not be down]
Umah grabbed me and pulled me into the house , where they scolded me with the whole family , telling me that I have no choice but to marry into the Ndlovu family especially because it's wealthy . I was hurt by the fact that my family is selling for their own benefit , I understand that we not wealthy, my mum is a cleaner and my dad runs a spaza shop ]
After 10 minutes ubaba went out with me , and the ceremony continued as if nothing happened. After the whole ceremony was done I took food to my husband Nkosi , I was legally his wife now.
Me : naku ukudla
Nkosi : Naku ukudla bani?
Me: Naku ukudla myeni wami
Nkosi : Ngiyabonga mkami. Kodwa uzongazi kahle namhlanje , awusi hlazi thina boGatsheni
With that I walked away with tears in my eyes , to pack my bags and just like that the ceremony was done and I was officially Mrs Ndlovu . Umah no Gogo gave me the "emendwani" talk , telling me the do's and don'T's . And we left off to the Ndlovu mansion .
