"Will it work?"
"Why?"
"How is it possible that Phi Fah doesn't know it's Ai Phoon?" North arched his eyebrows.
We had been talking about my letter for about five minutes.
"I think his handwriting is recognizable. How can he not figure it out? Do people usually write letters to people they don't know? It's hard."
"Hmm, what North says is true," Dao said.
"But I also want you to talk to him, if we meet the condition that Phi Fah doesn't know it's you he's talking to...how about...Hmmmm...." North was silent for a while, frowning as if in thought. "How about if you chat him up?"
"I don't think so. Phi Fah doesn't chat with people he doesn't know. He could just block him. That would be even more psychotic," Ter said.
"I'd still rather write him a letter." I said what I felt.
"I like to write letters too, and I think it seems old-fashioned."
"Then let's go ahead with the letter thing," North concluded. "It's up to you."
"Okay" I nodded.
"Then let's think about the next step, what we'll do after you write the letter to Phi Fah" said Ter. "It feels like when you were in high school, and you'd see how your friend secretly liked a senior, and send him letters and snacks and stuff like that."
"Well, I think it should work," Dao said. "Even if Phi Tonfah doesn't respond to Meow's letter, at least he'll know there's someone who likes him that much."
"Yes, I agree with that." North nodded. It had become a topic on which everyone was seriously exchanging opinions. "I'm the kind of person who, if you love someone, you have to let them know. Since you secretly like Phi Fah, you have to do something to let him know, so it won't be a secret at all anymore."
That I secretly like him at all... ok....
"I like that phrase, 'I secretly like him for nothing'," Ai Ter repeated and let out a small laugh.
"Oh, that's right. If you can't do it, that's fine, but if you can, do it. Let him know how much you love him, that you're ready to take care of him, listen to him and be there to support him from afar. He will never know. Missing him will only have meaning when you reach out."
"Hmm..." I fell silent, thinking. Missing him will only have meaning when you reach him... North was right. If he didn't know... The feelings I wanted to get through to him, they couldn't help him.
The feelings I wanted to convey to him...
When I started writing the letters to Torfan, the reason was the same.
"When you realized you were beginning to like Phi Jo, what did you do?", I asked.
"I showed him. I told him straight out. I gave him my gear."
"You gave it to him before you were even a couple." Ter said.
"It's no big deal. My heart was already with him. Why, did you want me to turn him down?"
"You really liked him." Ter said, laughing out loud. "You really are a pushover."
"I can't do it like you." I said softly. I didn't want to be the one to crash into everything in my path like North.
"You don't have to do it like me. You can do it your way" North raised an eyebrow and said, "Express yourself in your own style."
"Okay, that's right" I nodded my head in understanding.
"So...let's start by sending the first letter." Daotok was silent for a while. He must have used the time we were talking to think of a plan. "You can send it along with something small like a bottle of water. No. Just don't write too much."
We all fell silent to listen to Dao speak.
"So it won't be too difficult. At first, don't send letters often. Just watch how Phi Tonfah receives them and what expression he makes. If he seems fine, you can send him letters more often. But if he's not fine, we'll just back up."
"Back up?" asked Ter.
"If you smile, it means you like it. But don't overdo it either, you might come across as a stalker."
"Ah, right." Ter nodded repeatedly. "Now that I remember, Phi Hill once told me that Phi Fah used to have a stalker. At first, he would send him stuff normally and Phi Fah would accept it. But then, it got really intense. It was really scary."
"What should we do?" I asked uneasily, frowning.
"Phi Jo told me he took care of him," North replied. "That's what Phi Jo told me too."
"Yes, it wasn't hard to find him. Phi Hill told me, and Phi Jo was very angry at the time." Ter continued, which made me even more uncomfortable.
"Phi Jo will also order them to take care of me?"
"...Cat."
"W-what?"
"Better not ask that" sighed North. ""We have to keep Phi Jo away so he doesn't suspect it's you.""
"Then we have to be careful not to let them track him down," said Ter.
"We'll do it as usual, like a young man who secretly likes Phi Fah. There's nothing strange about it. How many people do you think send notes or snacks every day to Phi Fah?"
"...That's right," I agreed with North.
Phi Fah probably gets a lot every day. I wonder if Phi Fah will read my letters?
"That's fine. Our strength is consistency" said North. "To send them continuously, you have to have a soft heart. It's still four years before Fah graduates from college."
"Four years?"
"Are you discouraged, Phoon, how long have you loved Fah?"
"Since he learned the word love?"
"All his life."
"Yes, all my life."
"Then can you love him for another four years?"
"For the rest of my life." I said that and smiled, which made the other three smile too.
And so, I started writing my first letter. Actually, I had not yet started the first semester, but the third-year medical students had started studying earlier in the lab. Like today, the doctors went to study, North and Ter came to play in my room. Otherwise, it would be hard to get out of it.
Daotok taught me to write in another style. It was quite difficult, but I started to do it. North said that we should ask someone who doesn't know me, to deliver the letter, or put it secretly in the classroom where he will go to study. The first thing is that no one can see it, and the second is to make sure Phi Fah gets it.
"In the afternoon, they will go to the lab," Ter said as he looked at Phi Hill's class schedule on his phone.
"Are you going to put it there secretly?"
"Wouldn't that be a little risky?" asked Dao with a worried face.
It's 11 o'clock, he should be studying in another building, but the question is, will there be anyone studying in the lab?
"It's too complicated if we're going to use this method, shouldn't we sneak out?" North asked.
"Let's do it this way at first, if there is progress later, we could make an appointment to drop things off somewhere" said Dao. "Now, leave it for one of Phi Fah's friends to see, so they can give it to him."
"So, Phoon, have you finished writing?"
"It's done, can I put a smiley face on it?"
"Gee, Phoon, what's the point of Dao teaching you to write?" North clutched his temples. "Write a little."
"Eat something delicious?"
"That's too normal."
"North, what do you want so badly?" I turned around to ask. I've written so much that I'm not even sure what to write. I already threw all the old papers in the trash. "Do you study hard?"
"It's still too common, Phoon. You have to be different in order to stand out and not be like everyone else who sends stuff to Phi Fah. I want something like... that when I read it, I have to say, 'Shiaaa, this is so good. This is so memorable." North crossed his arms over his chest, grimacing seriously.
"Phi Fah...I really like you." I said just for fun.
"...That's it, cat! You got it."
"Wow, that's really good cat," Ter said as he burst out laughing. "It's extraordinary and very memorable."
"Hey, I'm just kidding. You guys are..." I let out a deep sigh, why did I have to say I like him?
"I agree with you too."
"Dao."
"You look funny. Phi Fah will know right away that it's me."
"Really?"
"Come on, Phoon. Trust me. I think you can. I'm Cupid. Any ship you get on where I'm not the captain, that ship will sink." I turned to look at the person who said what I wanted to say. And finally, when everyone convinced me, I became even more gullible.
"Okay, I'll write it down."
"What will you put?"
"... Mmmmm, I'll put.... 'Phi Fah... I like you very much.'"
"Your love is that intense?" said North as he burst out laughing. "But you call him Phi. He'll know you're his junior."
"Yes, that's right, isn't that too easy to guess?" I said.
"No, those words don't sound like you at all." Ter said. "If it were me, I wouldn't think it was you."
"Enough."
Really? ...
While all my friends looked confident, I felt my heart sink to my ankles, especially North who seemed to like me more than the others. We arrived at the medical school where there weren't many people downstairs. I assumed most of them were studying. Our appearance was furtive, we were a group of four guys who didn't look trustworthy at all.
"Did you buy some snacks?"
"Yeah, sure. A bag of snacks. I don't know if Phi Fah will like it, but I want to give it to him," I said. It was a brown paper bag with the words "For...Phi Tonfah" written on the front. Snacks, drinks and the piece of paper were inside.
"Won't it look too bold? Dao said he had to be subtle. Besides, what I wrote is a pretty strong statement," I whispered and asked worriedly, looking at the paper bag in my hand with uncertainty.
"What are you afraid of, Phoon? Make your debut memorable. I told you not to be ordinary like everyone else. Believe me, he'll look interested in you."
"Interested in a negative way?"
"Not negatively. Phi Fah will like you. Trust me."
I don't trust North's words, "Trust me."
"Hey, hey, you... That's him, Phi Arthit?" Ter nudged him and looked toward Phi Arthit, who was heading for the bathroom.
"Put it in front of the bathroom. Phi Arthit will give it to Phi Fah," North suggested.
"Give it to me, I'll put it in myself." North snatched the paper bag from my hand, took it to the bathroom and ran back. We waited anxiously to see the results. We were excited to see if Phi Arthit would come out with the paper bag... And he really did...!
I was hoping Phi Arthit wouldn't open the bag to look. Oops... he opened it.
North tried to hold back laughter when he saw Phi Arthit pull out the paper to look. Then he burst out laughing, put the paper back in the bag and pulled out some snacks.
Don't rummage through my stuff....
"Wait, he ate it!" said North. Phi Arthit ate the snack. Why did he do that? I bought it for Phi Fah! "I think I gave it to the wrong person."
"Yeah, that's right."
"That guy is..."
"It's okay. They're just snacks. The note should be fine."
"How sure are you?"
"Why did it have to be Phi Arthit who went to the bathroom?" I said and sighed deeply. Although it wasn't expensive, I intended for it to be received by Phi Fah.
Phew, it will be considered like inviting Phi Arthit to eat snacks. He may have forgotten to eat breakfast and is hungry.
_____
"Phi Arthit..." Daotok shouted the snack thief's name. We turned to look at the person sitting next to me who was drinking fresh milk. We were now sitting in a cafeteria behind the university.
"What's wrong?"
"Um, nothing, I was just thinking..."
"What?"
"Nothing." I raised my eyebrows in surprise before we paid attention to nothing else.
Daotok is always like that, like someone who has everything in his head but doesn't say it out loud. We tried to ask him before, I think it's his personality, he doesn't like to talk too much, he's the opposite of North who talks a lot....
"Your love will turn to dust, Cat."
"That's a terrible thing to say, North." I put my hand to my temple as I listened to the words of the person sitting across from me. "It was just a snack, a snack! He ate a snack, not my love."
"Pray the note gets into Phi Fah's hands." North changed the subject. "And let's pray that the message in the note works."
"What's there to pray for, didn't you say you were sure?" I frowned and asked.
"Are you serious, Phoon?"
"Yes."
"I'm not sure about anything, I was just joking with you."
"You're a son of a bitch, North!"
______
Tonfah POV
"Fah."
"Hmm."
"Someone sent you something." Arthit sat down next to me and put the brown paper bag on the table. I didn't look back because I was too interested in the paper he was writing.
"What is it?"
"An empty bag."
"An empty bag?"
"Just kidding, it had some snacks in it."
"So... you ate them?"
"Yes."
"Okay." I shrugged slightly, not really caring. Arthit is always like this, I'm used to it. Besides, I don't like to eat snacks.
"Open it and look inside."
"Didn't you say there were only snacks?"
"There's also something else." I reached out, took the paper bag and opened it to find a small bottle of water and a piece of paper inside.
"What's strange about this?" I turned around to ask. It wasn't strange at all.
"Try reading it first, you just keep asking questions."
"Thit, you talk like you don't want to turn in any homework this semester," said Johan, who was sitting across from me, as he kept tilting his head and writing.
I reached over to take the piece of paper and looked at it, and was surprised by the sentence written on it.
'Phi Fah... I like you very much.'
"Why are you smiling, Fah?"
"No reason... It's cute."
____
Typhoon POV
It was about a week until the second semester started.
After I gave that note to Phi Fah, I didn't send him anything else. And since North said he was just joking, it made me feel even more insecure.
"Hey, I said I was just kidding, but it might work. ouch!"
"Are you kidding? Huh?"
"Ter, help me, Dao, why is the cat so angry?"
"Serves you right, North. It's not that painful. It's just a pillow." I took revenge on North by hitting him in the face with a pillow on the couch.
Whew... Not bad, Phoon.
It might be a good start, as North said, if it weren't for the fact that Phi Arthit ate the snacks.
____
It's already past 10 pm. I'm done studying. Although I'm not sure if I should take the medical exam again, I'll study just in case. If I have to take the exam, I will have to be away from these kids, which I really don't want.
The notification from the LINE group, which was a group of the four of us, rang. The name of the group was "Take the cat to get vaccinated." North came back to change the name of the group after I hit him with a pillow that day.
SS💫: The new semester is about to start.
It was Daotok, whose LINE user was two 'S's which in English stood for 'Shooting Star.'(*)
(*) Dao Tok in English means Shooting Star
-Phoon-: That's right, are you excited Dao? 55555
SS💫: No, the cat must be excited.
-Phoon-: Why?
SS💫.: @North♣️
North♣️: What the hell?
North♣️: I fell asleep.
Easter: Wrong group.
North♣️: Oh, sorry. 55555
North♣️: It's about the letter to Phi Fah.
North♣️: Have you started writing it yet? It's due tomorrow.
-Phoon: Okay, are you sure this time?
North♣️: Ok, I won't bother you anymore 5555
North♣️: Just write something normal, along with anything with cookies or anything like that in it.
-Phoon- : Okay.
-Phoon- : *sends a sticker*.
I sat back down at my desk and started thinking about the letter again. At first, I said I wasn't sure yet, so I thought it would be better not to write it.
However, from the talk we just had, I had to go ahead anyway since there was no other way. Besides, everyone tried so hard to help me. The notification rang again. This time, Daotok, who was writing to me privately.
SS💫: Cat
SS💫: I've wanted to say this many times.
SS💫: But I didn't dare.
-Phoon: What's wrong?
SS💫: It's just that... What you wrote, that you like Phi.
Phoon: Yes? What's wrong with it?
-Phoon: Isn't it good? 🥺
SS💫: No, it's just... writing like that makes it obvious that you're a sophomore. year.
SS💫: Because at the time, you hadn't even started freshman year.
SS💫: But Cat... You once said Phi Tonfah was your tutor, right?
SS💫: It probably won't be too obvious.
Oh... Damn.
-Phoon-: He'll probably find out....
By using honorifics, you're definitely a sophomore. It's unlikely likely that you're a freshman, because a freshman doesn't know much about it yet, and probably, he wouldn't know which Phi Fah had already started with his classes either.
Why didn't you think of this before the semester started, Phoon?
-Phoon: What should I do?
SS💫: In case Phi Tonfah hasn't received the letter yet, it's okay.
SS💫 : But if he did, he might think that whoever wrote it just wrote it incorrectly or it's a joke.
SS💫 : It's just a thought, don't think about it so much Cat.
-Phoon- : It's ok, thanks for telling me.
-Phoon- : If you notice, I'll have to say it was a joke.
SS💫 : It's okay.
SS💫 : I hope tomorrow is a good day for the cat!
-Phoon- : I hope it's a good day for you too Dao.
___
"Why chocolate milk?"
"Because I like it," I replied. Today, I invited North early in the morning to help me deliver the letter. Now we are at a 7-Eleven to buy snacks for Phi Fah near North's engineering college.
"Just a carton of milk?"
"A whole package is fine."
"Are you a Typhoon spender?"
"Uh huh."
"I think a carton of milk and bread should be enough."
"I think so."
"What about the letter?"
"I don't know." I pouted a little, annoyed. "I haven't written it yet. I don't know what to write to her."
"We've already done a grand opening. We need to keep the concept of playing big."
"Stop it. Why play big every day?" North and I left the store because we were done shopping. I put my things in the bags I had packed. I bought a box of chocolate milk and a tuna sandwich. We both picked out something we liked.
"In that bag?"
"I don't want to give it to you in a 7-Eleven bag, it looks bad."
"Okay. Hurry up and write. I have class soon."
"Oh, I know." I sat down on the bench and pulled out a pen and paper, ready to write.
"What should I write, do you have any ideas?"
"Hmmmm..." North was silent and pretended to think. "Phi Fah, I really like you."
"Idiot, why would I keep writing like that?"
"I don't know Phoon, I'm not sensitive enough to understand."
"I guess so." I was silent, thinking for a while before deciding to write it down.
Stop...
Dear TonFah:
I guess you haven't had rice yet. This sandwich is delicious, I can confirm that because I eat it often. Chocolate milk is also delicious. Also, milk is good for your health, so drink milk. I hope you won't be sleepy during today's class 😉😉.
"Why would going to class make you sleepy?"
"It's normal to see doctors when they study, they always look sleepy."
"Then why don't you use more honorifics?"
"Dao said that using them makes it look like the one writing is in his second year."I explained.
North's eyes widened unexpectedly, Dao must have thought of that as I did for sure. He carried the note and the snacks, and then we parted ways. I didn't know who North left with, but he said he trusted that person, and I trusted him.
After school was over for the night, I immediately called North.
"How was it?"
[He's fine-he accepted it.]
"That's it?"
[He smiled, accepted it and nothing happened.]
"Hmmm... Okay..."
[Don't give up yet. I told you we have to be consistent. Everyone gives up against someone who is consistent.]
[It's okay.]
"I know. That's fine. Then we'll keep going like this."
[Okay.]
I may have missed an important point. How many people have been consistent with Phi Fah? Come on, it's okay. No one has loved Phi Fah for as long as I have. At least, that much I'm sure of. I kept sending sandwiches and letters, but not every day. North said Cupid, the messenger of love, doesn't have that much time on his hands. I don't know how North was getting them to him, but it must be bothering him a lot. Dao also suggested not to send them every day, so I only send them once every two or three days.....
It's been a month already....
"It's been a month already." Ter frowned worriedly. Now we gathered again to sit down and talk about the problem. This time, Foam appeared. "Any progress?"
"Hmm," shook his head North. "Cupid says Phi Fah always gets it and just smiles. But that's all."
"He gets it out of kindness," Foam said in annoyance.
"What about Phi Fah's friends. Your boyfriends haven't mentioned anything about it?"
"Nothing/Not at all." North and Ter shook their heads at the same time.
"What do you write in the cat letters?"
"Normal phrases, like, 'Have a nice day.' or 'Eat this it's delicious.'" I said and my shoulders began to hunch. I know it's too normal, but what can I do? It's me. If you ask me what I want to say to the person I love, the answer is this.
"Isn't that too ordinary?" said Foam.
"I'm just an ordinary person. I can't make it any more special."
"That's fine," North said. "This normalcy is what will be with us for the longest time." Said the other person with a smile. I smiled broadly. After all, Phi Johan himself said he fell in love with North's smile and he wasn't kidding.
"Keep it up."
"Am I still doing this?" I raised my eyebrows and asked.
"Yes, it's that normal because it's just you, TyPhoon."
"Um, thanks, North."
Some days, I noticed that Phi Fah looked tired, so I would send him more snacks than usual. I would send him coffee and write lots of words of encouragement. Missing him only became meaningful when my messages reached him, didn't it? And now... At least they were getting through. At least Phi Fah will eat the snacks I bought him, read my little letter, and while it may not mean anything to Phi Fah, my encouragement was reaching him.
"Living like this may not be so bad."
"You seem fine," North raised his eyebrows and took the bag of snacks from my hand.
"Are you okay with the secret love state?"
"Not bad. Even if I want to talk, I'd just tell him the same thing I write to him, so... it's fine." I shrugged my shoulders slightly and smiled at the other person. North smiled a little too.
"You don't look sad. I think that's good."
"Yeah, at least you get my messages, right?"
"That's true. If you're comfortable, that's fine."
"Hmmm."
____
I looked at North coming out of the tent area. If I really counted time, it had been two months since I had been doing this. It had become a habit. Early in the morning, I would wake up to go buy some snacks, then wait for North and deliver everything to him.
Daotok was starting to worry that his plan wouldn't go well, but I said not to overthink it, and that it was fine. There is nothing better than Dao's plan. This is the best.
[Typhoon]
"What's wrong with you? You give me goosebumps."
[Typhoon, are you free?]
"What's wrong with you, North?"
[Just kidding. When I speak politely, my tongue itches.]
"Bastard. What's wrong with you?"
[Come see me.]
"Why are you here?"
[Come downstairs for a moment. I'm down at the faculty.]
"Hey, I'm in class."
[Come downstairs for a moment. I have to hurry back to my faculty or Phi Jo will find out.]
"Okay, okay." I asked the professor for permission to go to the restroom and went downstairs to find North. Although I didn't know why he had come, I went downstairs to look for him.
"What's wrong?", I asked North, who was sitting and waiting.
"Hmm." The other person handed me a bag.
"What?"
"Open it and take a look at it." I took the bag and opened it to see a box of chocolate milk and a tuna sandwich. There was a little note on the bag that said.....
The chocolate milk and sandwich are really delicious. Eat it all : )
