Third person pov
Sebastian woke up in his bathroom. The cold floor bit into into his back as he noticed the pool of blood around him. He tried to use his right arm to support himself up. A wave of searing pain rushed through his forearm as it buckles under him.
He lands on the floor, head hitting the floor with a thud. He brings forth his sore arm to find it tinted red. The blood dried and stuck on to his skin while the cuts still throbbed.
He thinks back to what happened. Akira left..and he lost control. He remembers the look on her face. He did that. He made her have a flashback. She probably hates him now. Well deserved, the thought floats lazily in his head.
He uses his other arm to prop himself up. A sharp pain passes throughout his arm, stating from the wound on his bicep. He fights to keep it under him.
He stands up, holding onto the sink to support him. He sees black eyes staring back at him. Something sharp, like disgust, rises in him with an intensity he can't comprehend. He puts the forearm, pulsing with each of his heartbeat, in the sink and turns on the water.
The throbbing pain turns into sharp sting, making his breath quicken involuntarily. He turns the water off and tries picking up his toothbrush. A sharp pain fills his entire arm as he tries to hold the brush. Exhausted, he does it with his left hand.
A reminder makes the phone beside the sink light up.
'dad' it says.
A realisation cuts through the pain with a startling clarity. It's dad's birthday. They'll visit his grave today. Shame at the thought that he didn't remember it fills the rest of the emptiness in him.
---
Akira stirrs under the sheets as sunlight hits her face. She turns to her side and falls down with a thud. Massaging her arm, she gets up. With a frown on her face, she enters the bathroom.
A pounding head ache takes over as a sign of sleeping in. She looks at the person staring back in the mirror. A purple shade developing around her left eye, she knew from experience that it would only get worse for now. Her black eyes stare back at her as the events of last night rush past the haze in her mind.
A heaviness settles upon her chest, threatening to choke her. She sucks in a deep breath. Steadying herself, she faces the harsh truth. He is her boss. He has all rights to know everything about her. Carlos probably did too.
He would've probably told everyone. The thought strikes like a hammer, they are his family after all. An assassin, a worker, a killer. That's who she is, she reminds herself ruthlessly. The softness and emotions she had started to feel had no place here.
After taking a cold shower, she puts on her old clothes. A similar numbness that she had gotten used to back at her old job took over her. She grabs her knives and the gun, hiding them in the numerous pocket of her cargos.
She closes the door behind her. The headache made her want to not leave the comfort of her bed or the room. She couldn't make those excuses, she reminds herself. She walked downstairs, the smell of pancakes becoming stronger with each step that she took.
She entered the kitchen to Diana and Eiran making the pancakes, Leo and Kai baking something while her boss stood in the background, making himself some coffee. As per their routine, Diana looked up at her with a smile on her face.
"Good morning" She speaks over the Leo and Kai's chatter, making them look around.
She nods and notices the eyes of the whole family on her, except her boss who was busy with his coffee.
"What happened?" Leo rushed towards her, concern all over his face.
He brings up his hand to touch the band aid on her cheek, fingers barely brushing past it in fear that he might hurt her. Kai comes to stand beside him, face contorted in worry.
Their eyes dig into hers as she notices Eiran inquire his mom.
"Nothing" She says walking past them, voice deeply controlled by the anger bubbling inside her.
She notices them look at each other, confusion clear in their eyes. A part of her waited with baited breath for them to ridicule her about her past as another part of her prepared to fight to earn her respect. The ridicule never came but Leo turned to her, with the smile on his face.
"You like Strawberry Shortcake? We're making some!" He says merrily bouncing over to her.
She stares at him. Kai takes the steaming cake out of the oven and the sweet smell fills the kitchen.
"Come on kiddo, have some pancakes!" Diana gestures her over, holding a plate over for her.
Stiffly, she walks over and takes the plate from her. She sits down to eat and Eiran pours her some usual orange juice. She eats without a word and notices her boss lingering around for longer than usual. There was a slight forcefulness to everyone's smiles today, she observes, as they try making conversation with her.
Diana comes to stand beside her with a soft, almost sad, smile on her face.
"You and Seb have your dad's eyes." She says as she looks up from her food.
The emptiness Diana saw in them matched Seb's eyes too. Something was off, she realised. But before she could voice out her concerns, Eiran's alarm goes off.
"Come on people, time to leave!" He announces and the twins start bickering as they pack the cake.
"Dude. Relax!" Kai snaps after Leo started losing control of his anger in the haste.
Immediately, he takes a step back and, cleching his fists, walks off into another room.
Sebastian grabs the car keys and exits through the main doors. Akira follows Diana, who explains where they are going.
"-so we visit his grave on his birthday with his favourite cake." A fond smile creeps onto her face as she thinks back to the past.
Without a word, Akira follows her out. Diana directs Leo, Kai, Eiran and Akira into one car while she gets into a car with Sebastian.
"You okay?" Eiran asks, turning around in the driver's to look at her.
"yes" She answers, her voice flat.
Kai and Leo enter the car as they bicker about the cake.
"It's fine!" Leo replies, frustrated.
"You need to cool it down more than that!" Kai speaks up, pointing to the moisture beads formed on the transparent cover.
Their bickering continues for a while, making Akira's head hurt a tad bit more every time they open their mouths. Finally, after ten minutes of their nonsense, Eiran tells them to shut up.
Akira's pov
Every single time their eyes land on me, I know the disgust that must fill them up. They know. It sends shivers down my body and raises the hair on my arms and legs. They know about the times I was beaten unconscious, the times I failed my missions, about Rocky, about.. Rex.
What I don't understand is how they pretend to care. Why do they pretend? Pretend to be so..affectionate? And then, with the speed of a lightning strike. It hits me. They know what I've needed-wanted-all my life. Now, they want me to lower my guard, to become used to the comfort, to their niceties, so they can take it all away.
I stare out the window, at the buildings slowly fading until tress are all that remain. That explains it all. But what it doesn't explain is boss still being...his usual self. He knows, for God knows how long. And Diana, she was all smiles today like everyday.
A dread settles in my stomach. Why is a question I can't answer. I don't know how to. It can be tiring. These games that people play. But they won't get to hurt me. I won't let that little girl slip out again. Like I did last night. I have no idea what happened.
All I remember is watching that video, where he-old boss- did t-that and suddenly I was back there and just as helpless. Pain and blood surrounded me then, I could smell it. And just as suddenly, I was back in boss's room. I didn't know when I started crying, or when I finished.
It would've been better if I had never met this family. If they didn't take me in. If I was just another worker. Just another soldier- FUCK.
Both Leo and Kai slam into me, the cake, too, as the car flips from the explosion. I'm yanked upside down, my neck straining under my body’s weight for a split second—then comes the blinding pain. Heat sears my skin as glass shards rain down my arms and shoulders.
Everything is a blur—shouts, metal groaning, smoke choking the air. I gasp, twisting, fighting the tangle of limbs and wreckage to claw my way out of the car.
I have to make sure boss is safe. That's my first duty. I take out my gun and notice blood on my arms, with no idea of whose it is. Leo, Kai and Eiran climb out the car after me, their guns out too.
They have injuries, cuts, blood drips down their arms and face. There are snipers on the roof of the building on the other side of the road, and they aren't ours.
I notice them loading their guns, preparing to kill. They aren't in my shooting range, so the only way to protect him is to cover him. I look over to see their car too, but no one is out is of now. How do I reach him without exposing myself?
I look over and find no cover. I take a deep breath and- fuck it. I run for it. Halfway through the gap, I see a hand clasp the door of the car and try to climb out. Just a little more- a crack of bullet leaving it's barrel reverbrates around me as hot, white, searing pain shoots through my arm.
For a second there was nothing except my shock and a strange numbness in my arm as I kept running. I couldn't stop now. There was another shot. I ran, but a strange dread filled me as I waited for it hit me. It didn't. I couldn't hear anymore as ringing fills my ears and I finally reached boss. Atleast he's safe.
---
Somebody is carrying me. I try to open my eyes. It feels like somebody glued them together and then placed the heaviest weight possible on them. Finally, getting them open, I see a bloody body lying on the ground. The sniper, I think.
"My kill" I mutter as darkness comes to engulf me it's arms.
Third person pov
Sebastian exits the room, blood soaked into his jacket. His sister's blood, fury takes over him. He is her kill but death won't be so quick for him. He drives to their prison.
The guards outside the entrance salute him as he enters. He walks down the cells to the last one. Eiran stands there panting, knuckles bloody. Sebastian looks up to see the face of the sniper butchered.
"He had a tracker in his arm and the same bomb on his neck" Eiran speaks up, his voice uncharacteristicly hollow.
He nods and Eiran walks out.
He turns to the sniper, with hands tied up by metal chains as he kneeled. He grabs his hair in his fist, yanking him roughly. The empty eyes of the sniper meet his with indifference.
Sebastian brings out his lighter, his eyes landing on his raised arms. He brings the flame near his right arm. His eyes stop on a tatto as the flame shines light on it. His heartbeat is all he can hear as he stares at the tatto and then the hung head of the defeated man.
Dread settles in a pit in his stomach as he walks around to face the back of this man. Through the torn clothing, the bruises and cuts sit on longer, broader and shinier scars scattered throughout his back. Sebastian takes a step back trying not to let his breathing becomes uneven.
He doesn't let his horror show on his face or his body language as he pulls a chair from the corner to sit facing him. He sits before the man who is barely breathing as blood continues to trickle from the wound on his left upper arm, and pools on the ground beneath him.
"Who are you?" Sebastian's voice reverbrates around the room.
The man makes no move to answer him, hanging there looking down on the blood pooled on the floor beneath him. He grabs him by his hair makes him meet his eyes.
"Убей меня" The man mutters, his voice hoarse, as his eyes meet sebastian's. (Kill me)
"Кому ты подчиняешься?" Sebastian's asks, his rough voice containing an edge to it. (Who orders do you follow?)
The man stares at him, his eyes devoid of any light in the dark chamber.
"Убей меня" he whispers again. (Kill me)
In one sweeping motion, Sebastian's hand gets a hold of the man's throat. His breathing turns into short gasps as his lips start turning blue at the edges.
"Я не люблю повторяться" Sebastian's rough voice gets dangerously low. (I don't like to repeat myself)
A bead of sweat runs down the man's temple, making the scar that stretches from his forehead to the cheekbone shine. His eyes start to roll back while he tries his best to keep them steady and on Sebastian.
Sebastian's phone rings, breaking the silence in the chamber. Startled, his grip on his throat tightens, leaving the man unconscious. He gets up from the chair, answers the phone and brings it upto his ear.
"She's out of surgery" Eiran's voice comes sharp and tight over the phone.
"I'm coming" He answers, ending the call and nearly running out of the building.
Akira's pov
There's noises around me. I can hear someone talking. I wanna go back to sleep. It feels heavy. Comfortable.
---
I fell asleep. The voices have changed now. They are mot speaking so loudly any more I guess. Wait. There are people around me. I need to be awake. I can't feel my body. Shit, I can't lose my fucking organs.
I fight the heaviness on my eyes to open them. Bright light blinds me as soon as successfully open them. Somebody steps in front or over or somewhere around me such that it dims the glare of light. FUCK I'm losing my organs. No.
I try to open my mouth which feels like it's glued shut. The dark figure bends over me, my eyes unable to focus on anything. Finally, I rip apart my lips. My mouth is dry but I try to speak up nonetheless. No voice can make it out of my throat which feels raw, like it's just been grated.
"...water?" The word enters my ears and I try to nod, but everything feels heavy and every movement takes more effort than it should.
Something, probably a straw, enters through my parted lips and the water feels heavenly. This is the best water. Is it even water? I love it. I drink till no more comes out of the straw.
I feel a change in my view. The lights aren't glaring anymore. I try to look around, using all of my energy. My bed is folded upwards. What? Bed's fold? I am sitting. No. Being supported up by the bed. It really folds. Wow.
There's people around me. They're saying something. I think. There's men. Three men. They look worried. Something happened? I hope their worries go away. Poor them. I look away from them, to my other side. Mom's here.
A surge of happiness passes through me. Hahaha mom. She also looks worried. What happened? No. Make her happy. She looks beautiful when she smiles. Who's that? I try to focus my eyes better. There's someone standing by the door, looking at me.
It's..IT'S SEBBY.
"Sebby!" I speak up, a smile forming on my face.
Mom looks back at him and then smiles broadly. Hehehe I made her smile. She looks so pretty. I want Sebby. He's coming. He's walking over. He comes to stand over me. He isn't smiling.
Giggles erupt from me as I happily look up at him "Sebby!"
He smiles. I think. He holds my hand. I can't feel it. My hand. Is it there? Fuck did they take my hand too?!
"My hand!" I shout, tears pooling in my ears.
I can't see my hands!
Sebby's saying something. Wait. Quiet. I need to focus.
"...here, see?" He says, showing me my arm, with a soft smile on his face.
There's my arm!
"I really like my arms" I tell him.
I start crying. sobbing. I miss him. He's the best brother ever.
"Why....crying..." He takes me in his arms.
"I miss Sebby!" I explain through my sobs. He should know about Sebby. Wait. He is sebby!
Why am I crying?
It feels good.
