You're sitting down at your desk, studying for the upcoming test. How long has it been? Four hours?
You yawned, stretching yourself. You suddenly stopped stretching once you remembered something. Oh yeah! You need to visit your dog, Ppang (๋นต) at the vet. You grabbed your phone to look at the time, your eyes widening.
10: 36 PM. The vet closes at 11:00 PM.
"Shit! Shibal!" You yelled, before grabbing your jacket and your bag, running out of your apartment, not bothered to lock the door.
At last, you arrived at the vet at 10:45 PM, panting heavily as you paused in front of the veterinary centre to catch your breath.
You read the big sign; Animal Medical Centre. Taking a deep breath, you stepped inside, hoping it wasn't too late.
"Miss L/N, you're here at last. We were just about to wrap things up," The vet, Mr Cho remarked. Your eyes shifted to the examination table, where your poor dog, Ppang, lay. "How's he doing?" you asked Mr Cho, gently stroking Ppang's head. He leaned into your touch, seeking more of your comfort.
"He just took his medicine. He'll be fine for a few days, hopefully." Mr Cho stated. "There have been some major improvements."
A smile spread across your face. Maybe Ppang truly has a chance to live. After all, heโs been by your side for as long as you can remember. Life without your number one companion felt unimaginable. Sure, heโs left a mess on your floor more times than youโd like to count, but your love for him has never wavered.
Whenever you were sad, he was always there for you. Whenever you got heartbroken by a boy, he'd always try to cheer you up. Whenever you got scolded by your parents, he'd always stay by your side to make sure you were okay. That's why you could never picture a life without him.
The thought of him not being here anymore scares you. That's why you've been working extra hard everyday, even taking two jobs. Sure, it's tiring, working two jobs while studying in college, but you'll do anything to save your beloved dog.
"Miss L/N? Are you okay?" You suddenly snapped out of your thoughts, hearing the voice of Mr Cho. You wiped your face, not wanting him to see the single tear that dropped from your eye.
"Oh, er, I'm fine. Just deep in my thoughts. Uh, anyways, what were you saying?" You responded, hoping he doesn't notice you fidgeting you hands.
"The medical bills for Ppang." He remarked. Oh. Of course. The medical bills. You gulped, before looking back at him.
"Oh...yeah. So uh, how much?" You muttered, hoping it wasn't too expensive like last time.
"One million won." Your eyes almost popped out of your eye sockets once you heard that. One million won?!? Did you even hear that right?
"O-One million won? Are you sure...?" You interjected. How are you gonna get one million won in a span of a month? "C-can't you go lower? Maybe 500,000 won?" You pleaded. "Or at least 800,000 won?"
"I'm sorry, Miss L/N. But we can't set the price down." He said, looking at her with empathy. "Ppang's sickness is very hard to cure. I hope you understand." He gently put his hand on your shoulder, hoping that it'll make you feel better. Unfortunately, it didn't.
Mr Cho interjected with a fake cough. "Ahem. Miss L/N, if you don't mind, we're about to close soon." He blurted, making you snapped out of your thoughts again.
"Oh, right. I'm sorry." You nod your head, giving Ppang a few kisses on his face. "I'll see you soon, Ppang. Please get well soon." You mumbled, smiling at him, not wanting to cry in front of your dog and Mr Cho.
You grabbed your bag, giving one last look at Ppang, before stepping out of the clinic with a heavy heart.
