Chapter 25: Look Again, Alpha, and I’ll Rip Your Eyes Out

Shao Ye froze, disbelief rippling through him like a sucker punch.

The only thing that mattered was this: his sister was in Boss Bai’s filthy hands.

Boss Bai—that slimy bastard, that conniving snake. The same man who whispered sweet garbage like “You mean everything to me.” And yet? His sister, his blood, was nothing but a pawn to this scumbag.

If Shao Ye had it his way, he’d storm into the slums right now, skin Bai alive, and hang his bones out to dry.

“How do you know?” Shao Ye’s sharp gaze landed on Lu Zhanxing, suspicion burning behind his eyes. Then he scoffed. “Oh, of course. You’re Lu Zhanxing. Supreme Commander of the Alliance. A guy with power that reaches into every shadow. Digging up dirt like this must be child’s play for you.”

“Ah Ye, trust me. Please,” Lu Zhanxing pleaded, grabbing Shao Ye’s hand and pressing it to his chest, his voice a low, desperate rumble. “Give me a chance. I’ll get your sister back. I’ll make sure you’re reunited. I swear it.”

But Shao Ye’s face stayed hard, unreadable. His lips curved into a bitter smirk as he lifted his gaze, locking eyes with Zhanxing.

“You knew, didn’t you?”

“What?” Lu Zhanxing blinked, startled.

“You knew my sister was in Bai’s hands. From the start.” Shao Ye’s voice cut like broken glass. “Bai lied to me, made me think I could trade weapons for her freedom. But the truth? He just wanted his own damn army.”

Lu Zhanxing didn’t deny it.

Shao Ye’s chest heaved, his composure slipping. His eyes, damp and glassy, betrayed the storm inside.

“And you?” Shao Ye pressed on, venom lacing every word. “You—a highborn aristocrat—slumming it in a ten-square-meter shithole with me? Cooking? Working odd jobs? Was it all just a cover so you could dig up dirt on Bai?”

“No!” Lu Zhanxing’s voice cracked, frantic. “I went to the slums for you. Only for you! It wasn’t until I got there that I realized Bai was plotting against you. That’s when I started investigating, when I uncovered his deals—with rebels, with interstellar pirates. He’s playing every side like a damn maestro.”

“And you didn’t think to tell me?” Shao Ye’s voice rose, raw with fury. “What was the plan, huh? Keep me in the dark because you think I’m just another pawn in Bai’s game? Because you see me as one of them?”

“No, Ah Ye. It’s not like that. It’s not—”

“Don’t call me that!” Shao Ye cut him off, a growl tearing from his throat. His knuckles whitened as his fists clenched at his sides. “Lu Zhanxing—no, Commander Lu. Do you even get it? I trusted you. Hell, I almost thought of you as family. But you? You’re all lies. All duty and alliances and your precious goddamn Alliance.

“And me? All I’ve ever wanted was my sister!”

Shaoye shoved Lu Zhanxing aside, his voice low and sharp. "I'm going back to the Dustborn district."

He swung the door open, only to be greeted by a wall of stone-faced bodyguards blocking his way.

Behind him, Lu Zhanxing sighed like he was carrying the weight of the galaxy, then turned around. "Ah Ye, the rebels have completely taken over the Eighth Sector. Less than ten days. The Council’s recalled me to the frontlines. Right now, the Dustborn district is more dangerous than the battlefield. I'm sorry, but I can’t send you back."

Shao Ye spun around and grabbed Lu Zhanxing by the collar, his bloodshot eyes boring into him. "I said my sister’s waiting for me in that hellhole, and I’m not about to leave her there to rot. Frontlines? Fires of hell? Bring it on. I don’t need your protection or your pity. Either shoot me now or let me through."

Silence. Thick enough to choke on.

Finally, Lu Zhanxing’s voice cut through, cold as steel. "At the rebels’ current pace, the Dustborn district will fall in 72 hours. They’re using biochemical weapons this time. Gas clouds, no survivors. You have 72 hours to find your sister and get your ass back to the capital. No exceptions."

Shaoye froze. Did… did he just agree?

Lu Zhanxing didn’t wait for a reply. "Helicopter arrives in 20 minutes. We’ll head to the military docks for Dustborn. Get your shit together in 15."

Shao Ye couldn’t help but squirm, still not fully at ease with the sharp, drill-sergeant bark of Lu Zhanxing's orders slicing through the air.

Shao Ye blinked. “Wait… did you just say we?”

"Of course. I’m taking you. Any objections?" Lu Zhanxing’s tone left no room for argument.

“N-no," Shao Ye stammered, his boiling frustration suddenly replaced by a surge of relief.

He couldn’t help it—the tears he’d held back came flooding down as he smiled, something fragile breaking free. He wanted to hug the man, spin him around in a ridiculous, giddy circle, but he managed to keep his hands to himself.

Then Lu Zhanxing casually unlocked a hidden wall panel, revealing rows of guns, armor, and high-tech equipment. Shao Ye's jaw hit the floor. This was the stuff of boys’ wildest dreams—gear meant for battle-hardened soldiers, not street punks who’d only ever seen rusty pistols strapped to gangsters’ waists.

Shao Ye had never laid a damn finger on any of this in his entire life.

Lu Zhanxing dragged him in, patient but no-nonsense, helping him suit up. Shao Ye eagerly grabbed a sleek M762 assault rifle, but Lu Zhanxing plucked it out of his hands with a smirk and replaced it with a Desert Eagle.

Shao Ye glared. "What the hell? I want the big boy gun."

Once Shao Ye was all set, Lu Zhanxing cranked up the speed, slicker than ever, and came packing with even more gear.

Lu Zhanxing patted his head, patronizing as hell. "Be good. That rifle’s recoil will knock you flat, Omega."

"I..." Shaoye opened his mouth to argue, but the distant thrum of helicopter blades cut him off.

A military chopper roared down, cutting through the air as it landed smack in the middle of the sprawling playground. By the time they reached the chopper, five soldiers, including the pilot, were already waiting. They snapped into crisp salutes. "Sir!"

"Well, we're all here." Lu Zhanxing acknowledged them with a nod, then hauled Shao Ye up into the cabin with one firm pull.

"Flight to GA17 dock. ETA: three hours, twelve minutes," came the voice of a female pilot.

Shao Ye blinked.

A female pilot?

Intrigued, he craned his neck to get a better look. Young. Female, no doubt.

Lu Zhanxing caught him, fingers gripping the back of his neck in a way that sent a shiver down his spine. "Remember what you said when we first met? 'With a man like Lu-ge as my husband, looking at other Alphas would be an insult to my eyes.'"

Shao Ye’s mind snapped back to the words he’d tossed at Lu Zhanxing the first time they crossed paths—and again when they strolled toward the dock.

Shao Ye froze. He had said that. Back when he’d thought Lu Zhanxing was some heartbroken sucker. How did this guy remember it word-for-word?

"So what if I remember? I wasn’t—wait, hang on, she’s an Alpha?!"

"Keep staring, and I’ll personally gouge out those wandering eyes of yours," Lu Zhanxing murmured, the edge in his voice making Shao Ye’s skin prickle.

Shao Ye froze, fear surging through him.

Sure, he never saw their marriage as real, but he wasn’t stupid enough to push Lu Zhanxing’s buttons over it.

He shut up immediately, dropping his gaze to his lap like a scolded kid. But his nerves weren’t done frying yet.

These soldiers, each under the command of Lu Zhanxing, were almost certainly all Alphas.

As for Shao Ye, he still didn’t fully get how people here figured out the whole second-gender thing. The logic was simple, but it didn’t quite click for him.

Apparently, it all came down to pheromones.

The ones with strong, sharp scents? Definitely Alphas.

The sweeter smells? Those were Omegas.

As for Betas, it was a different story – they smelled like… nothing. Just sweat, mostly.

Of course, when they weren't in a vulnerable phase—whether susceptible or in heat—everyone kept their pheromones tightly locked down. It's bad form to let that stuff slip out in public. Illegal, even.

Shao Ye knew one thing for sure: there was no way he was going to go sniffing their necks just to confirm whether they were Alphas or not.

And besides, if he tried, Lu Zhanxing would probably snap his neck like a twig.

So, Shao Ye did the smart thing and kept his head down.

One of the soldiers slapped his shoulder with the easy camaraderie of a frat brother. "Yo, newbie! What’s your name? Transferred in, huh? I’m Yu Mo, Black Panther Alpha. Nice to meet you." He extended a hand, waiting for a handshake.

The guy’s face mirrored his twin sitting across the cabin, both of them grinning like this was some casual joyride.

He cleared his throat twice, practically trying to signal with his eyes.

But of course, Yu Mo didn't catch on at all. Instead, he asked, "Bro, what's up? You’re not coming down with a cold right before a mission, are you?"

The man gritted his teeth, exasperated, and shook his head, signaling it was nothing.

Yu Mo kept sniffing around Shao Ye, then commented, "Bro, you’re not a Beta, are you? I can't smell any pheromones on you."

At that, Lu Zhanxing spoke up, his voice cold and cutting. "What, you want to sniff his pheromones?"

Yu Mo shrugged nonchalantly. "Not really. Just curious, since our special forces team has never had a Beta around."

Seeing Shao Ye still staying silent, Yu Mo turned to Lu Zhanxing. "Boss, where did you find this guy? He’s so shy, even introducing himself."

Lu Zhanxing’s voice went even colder. "His name’s Shao Ye. He’s an Omega."

"Wait, what? Shao Ye? Not bad, that’s a manly name... a fucking Omega?!" Yu Mo froze, eyes wide as realization hit.

Lu Zhanxing didn’t flinch. "He’s also my partner."

Yu Mo was so stunned, words wouldn’t come.

His older brother shook his head, exasperated, and gently closed Yu Mo's gaping mouth.

Lu Zhanxing narrowed his eyes. "You gonna keep your hands to yourself?"

With lightning speed, Yu Mo snatched his hand off Shao Ye’s shoulder, jumping to sit next to his brother, face flushed with embarrassment.

He swallowed hard, stumbling over his words. "Uh, sorry, ma’am, I didn’t realize you were an Omega. I apologize for the earlier... disrespect."

"No need," Shao Ye waved him off immediately. "Don’t call me ma’am. Just call me Shao Ye."

Yu Mo was about to protest. "But that’s not proper...," when Lu Zhanxing cut him off, his tone like ice. "You gonna argue with his request?"

Yu Mo’s blood turned cold.

Who dared defy the little lady’s orders?
