Chapter 11
Nani had been planning to find Sky and ask him what was going on, but work had kept him busy for the past two days. The more he tried to focus, the more his mind kept drifting back to Sky, and it was starting to drive him crazy. He couldn't take it any longer. He asked Lisa to order lunch for staffs from Sky's father's restaurant, hoping it would give him a chance to see Sky without having to leave work.
--
Sky stood in his family's restaurant, eyes narrowed as he read the delivery orders for the day. He froze when he saw Nani's company on the list. He hadn't expected to be asked to deliver food to his friend's workplace.
Sky couldn't figure out what was going on with himself lately. Every time he saw Nani, it was like a storm was brewing inside of him. He was confused about his feelings unsure whether they were just a passing thing or something deeper. He didn't want to ruin their friendship. He hadn't even had the courage to face Nani directly.
But now, it seemed like he had no choice.
--
When Sky arrived at Nani's company, he planned on doing what he came to do and leaving quickly. No small talk. No confrontation. But as he was about to turn to leave, Lisa appeared in front of him, moving faster than he expected.
"Sky." she said, almost breathlessly. "Can you please take one of the food sets directly to Khun Nani's office? "
Lisa doesn't dare to ask Sky do anything since everyone in the company know that Sky is their boss's friend but Nani is the one that asked her to told Sky to delivery the food to his office. Just by this, Lisa could already guess that Sky is the reason behind her boss's bad mood recently.
Lisa, sensing Sky's hesitation, gave him a gentle smile. Sky felt his stomach tighten, and he struggled to control his emotions. He could run away, pretend nothing was happening, but he had a feeling that wouldn't work anymore.
"Alright." he said quietly, his voice barely audible, and he headed towards Nani's office with the food.
Inside, Nani had been pacing in his office. He barely heard the knock at the door.
"Come in." he called out.
When the door opened, Sky walked in, holding the food, his expression unreadable. Sky felt his heart race as the tension between them hung in the air.
"Here." Sky said, setting the food down on Nani's desk.
Sky turned to leave, his mind still tangled in confusion, but Nani stopped him before he could get too far.
"Sky... can we talk for a second?" Nani's voice was cold, just like when they first met, the kind of cold that made Sky feel uneasy, even though he knew he hadn't done anything wrong.
He turned to face Nani, but he couldn't shake the fear that if he let himself be too open, their friendship might break.
"Why are you avoiding me? Did I do something to upset you?" Nani asked, standing up and walking over to stand directly in front of Sky.
Sky shook his head. "No, I'm not avoiding you."
"Really? Sky, I have eyes. I can see that." Nani's words were harsher than he meant them to be.
"It's just your feeling,. Sky muttered, avoiding Nani's gaze.
"Sky Wongravee, look at me." Nani's voice was firm, and when Sky heard his full name, he knew Nani wasn't messing around. He slowly met Nani's sharp eyes.
"Say it again—that you're not avoiding me." Nani demanded.
Sky couldn't bring himself to say it, not when Nani's eyes were piercing into him like that.
"See? Who are you trying to fool, when you can't even fool yourself? Tell me what's wrong." Nani's voice softened with concern, but the frustration was still there.
Sky, feeling cornered, suddenly felt the panic rising. He started walking away from Nani, needing space to breathe, his mind spinning with emotions. He reached the large window, his reflection staring back at him, and for a moment, he just froze.
Nani followed closely, his footsteps determined. He stood beside Sky, reaching out to grab his hand and gently but firmly pulling him to face him. "I asked, what's wrong?"
"Nothing, nothing..." Sky's voice cracked, and he blinked rapidly, trying to stop the tears from falling, but it was useless.
"Sky, don't make me repeat myself." Nani's tone was still softer, but there was an edge to it, a quiet intensity that made Sky's heart race.
At hearing those words, Sky grew even more nervous. He tried to pull away from Nani's grip, but Nani held on, refusing to let him go. Sky stood there, his mind racing, not knowing what to do anymore. The tears that he had been holding back for so long finally began to fall freely.
"I'm sorry. I just... don't know what to do..." Sky's voice broke, and for a moment, he almost wished he could take it all back. "I think I like... you."
The simple, quiet confession hit Nani like a lightning strike. For a second, his heart seemed to stop. The world around him blurred, his mind struggling to catch up with what he just heard.
Nani's silence only made Sky panic even more. The weight of his own words crashed down on him, and in that moment, he was sure, he had ruined everything. Their friendship, the easy moments they shared, all of it. His chest tightened as fresh tears spilled down his cheeks, harder and faster than before.
Nani's eyes widened slightly as he watched Sky fall apart right in front of him. He had seen Sky smile, laugh, and even pout in frustration but this? This was different. This was a side of Sky he had never seen before, and it made something deep inside him twist.
"Sky, calm down," Nani said, trying to reach him. But Sky just shook his head furiously, unable to stop himself from breaking down.
Without thinking, Nani stepped forward and wrapped his arms around Sky's broad shoulders, pulling him close. He didn't know what else to do, but somehow, this felt right. His hand moved to Sky's back, patting it gently, trying to soothe him.
Sky stiffened at first, caught off guard by the warmth of Nani's embrace. But as Nani held him, steady and unwavering, Sky found himself leaning into it, his fingers gripping the fabric of Nani's shirt as he let out a shaky breath.
Win walked in, a folder in hand, ready to ask Nani something. But the sight in front of him made him freeze in place.
"F*ck." he muttered under his breath.
Nani stood facing the window, completely unaware of his presence. Sky, on the other hand, had his face buried in Nani's shoulder, doesn't paid attention to anything else. The atmosphere in the room was heavy, filled with something Win knew he definitely shouldn't be witnessing.
Carefully, he took a step back. Then another. Moving on his tiptoes, he slowly made his way out of the room, praying neither of them would notice. As soon as he shut the door behind him—without making a sound he let out a deep breath, put his hand on his chest and he could feel his heart still racing.
"Maybe I should knock next time."
Nani slowly loosened his hold on Sky, just enough to look at him properly. His hands instinctively moved to cup Sky's face, his thumbs brushing against damp cheeks.
"I can't give you my answer right now" Nani whisper. "But I promise I will. Can you wait for me?"
Sky froze, his teary eyes locking onto Nani's. The weight of those words settled deep in his chest.
His tears threatened to fall again, but he tried his best to hold them back.
Nani let out a quiet chuckle. "What's wrong? You don't want to wait for me?"
Sky quickly shook his head. "I can. I can......I can wait for you."
Nani chuckled at Sky's reaction. Without thinking, he gently wiped the fresh tears from Sky's face with his thumb.
"This is the first time I've seen someone confess and cry at the same time" Nani mused, his hand still resting on Sky's cheek. Sky let out a small laugh, his eyes still glistening with unshed tears.
Nani stared at Sky for a moment, taking in the way his long lashes were still damp with tears. Without thinking too much, he leaned in, pressing a soft, lingering kiss against Sky's eyelashes, a silent promise.
Sky's breath hitched, his fingers curling slightly against Nani's shirt. His heart pounded so loudly in his chest that he was sure Nani could hear it.
"I'll give you my answer." Nani murmured, his lips barely pulling away. "Not today, but someday. I promise."
Sky didn't say anything, only nodding slightly as he blinked away the last of his tears. He didn't know what the future held, but for now, just this moment was enough.
I can't sleep, so here's another chapter ;)
