Chapter 4
Morning
The usual buzz of the market felt off today, and Lisa couldn't shake the feeling that someone was watching her. Lisa was Nani's most trusted secretary, the only one who could keep up with his demanding work style better than the others.
As she turned to leave a stall, a man in a hoodie quickly brushed past her. Before she could react, he snatched her purse and started running toward the exit. Lisa didn't hesitate. She ran after him.
"Help! Thief!" she shouted, her voice cutting through the noise of the market. The thief wasn't stopping, though. He turned around and lunged at her, and a sharp pain shot through her arm as she tried to break free.
Before she could recover, the thief pushed her roughly. Lisa stumbled, and the sudden force made her body jerk in pain. She gasped as she felt a tightness in her chest. She was pregnant
Just then, a familiar figure appeared in the crowd—Sky.
Sky had been nearby, picking up some supplies for his father. Hearing the commotion, his instincts kicked in. Without thinking, he rushed toward Lisa.
"Hey! Stop!" Sky yelled, his voice cutting through the noise of the market.
The thief, realizing someone was chasing him, tried to run faster, but Sky wasn't going to let that happen. In a swift move, he grabbed the man by the collar, spun him around, and slammed him to the ground. The thief struggled, but Sky held him down easily
Lisa, relieved the thief was caught, tried to stand, but the pain in her stomach was too much. She stumbled, then fell to her knees, clutching her belly.
Sky immediately rushed to her side, kneeling beside her. "Are you okay?" he asked urgently. Lisa's breath came in short, panicked gasps. Her face went pale. She tried to speak, but then she noticed blood.
"Someone call an ambulance!" Sky shouted as he quickly knelt closer to her, his voice urgent.
At the Hospital
Lisa was quickly wheeled into the emergency room, the doors sliding shut behind her with a soft whoosh. Sky stood just outside, his mind racing. He couldn't believe what had just happened. Even though he didn't know her she was pregnant. He wanted to be sure she was okay.
A nurse approached him, her expression serious but still polite. "Excuse me, sir, can you please fill out this form for the patient? We'll need some information to continue the treatment."
Sky hesitated. He didn't know anything about her, Still, he had to do what he could. His eyes fell on the company staff card in his hand, the one he had grabbed from Lisa's purse after stopping the thief. It hadn't even occurred to him that he had it until now.
He quickly handed the card to the nurse. "This is the company card," he said. "Can you use the number on this to contact?"
The nurse nodded, accepting the card. "Thank you. I'll reach out to the number right away."
Sky nodded and stood aside. It wasn't long before opened again. Nani and Win entered, their eyes scanning the room. When they saw Sky standing there, they froze, their expressions a mix of confusion and surprise.
"Sky?" Win asked, his voice full of questions. "What are you doing here?"
Sky glanced at Nani, who was looking at him with narrowed eyes, his face tense. "I... I was the one who helped her," Sky said, feeling a knot tighten in his chest. "She was attacked at the market. I caught the thief and called the ambulance."
There was a brief silence as Nani processed the words. He glanced at Sky, his expression still guarded but with a hint of relief. "Is she okay?" Nani asked, his voice quieter now.
"She's stable," Sky said quickly. "They're taking care of her inside, but... she's pregnant, and she was hurt during the struggle. I'm not sure how serious it is."
Win let out a breath, glancing between Sky and Nani. "So you were the one who stopped the thief?"
Sky nodded. "Yeah, I heard the commotion and just acted on instinct. I didn't think... I didn't know she was pregnant until after."
Nani was quiet for a moment, his gaze softening slightly. "Thank you." he finally said, his voice low. "You really saved her today."
Sky shifted uncomfortably under Nani's gaze, not used to hearing words of gratitude from him. But before he could respond, the door to the emergency room opened again, and a nurse stepped out, looking directly at them.
"Are you the family of the pantient?" she asked, her eyes scanning them.
Nani immediately stepped forward, showing her his company staff card. "I'm her boss." he said. "How is she?"
The nurse gave a small nod. "She's still under observation, but she's stable for now. We're keeping an eye on her, but she's in good hands. I'll let you know if anything changes."
Nani exhaled in relief, turning to Sky and Win. "Win, try calling her family."
Win nodded, quickly pulling out his phone. his brow furrowed as the phone rang. Sky watched Nani for a moment, noticing the subtle tension in his posture. He could tell how much Nani cares of Lisa.
After a few more moments, Win hung up, looking up at them with a sigh. "I couldn't get through. It went straight to voicemail."
Nani's jaw tightened, but he didn't seem all that surprised. "Her family might be busy... or they don't care at all."
"She's awake," the nurse announced, her voice calm. "You can go in and see her now."
Nani was the first to move, his footsteps quick as he headed toward the room. Sky and Win followed closely behind. Inside, Lisa was lying in a hospital bed, looking pale but relieved to see them. Her eyes flicked between Nani, Win, and Sky.
"I'm sorry" she said softly, her voice strained. "I didn't mean to worry you."
Nani gave her a reassuring smile, though his concern was still evident. "You don't need to apologize, Lisa. no one want something like this to happened."
Sky stood at the edge of the room, observing quietly, though part of him wanted to make sure Lisa was truly alright. "Thank you," Lisa whispered, looking at Sky. "For helping me."
Sky gave a small, modest nod. "No need to thank me. I just did what anyone would do."
Nani's eyes lingered on Sky for a moment. There was a small cut on Sky's hand, the skin slightly reddened around the edges. It looked like it had come from the struggle with the thief.
Nani frowned, his gaze narrowing slightly. "You're hurt."
Sky glanced at his hand, seemingly surprised that Nani had noticed. "Oh, it's nothing. Just a scratch."
Nani didn't look convinced, stepping closer to inspect it. The cut wasn't deep, but it was still enough to leave a mark. "It's not nothing. " Win, who had been standing nearby, looked between Nani and Sky, his expression curious. "You should get that checked out," he said, pointing to Sky's hand.
Sky waved it off. "Really, it's fine. We should worried about Lisa right now."
But Nani wasn't having it. Without another word, he turned to the nurse who had just left the room. "Can you get something for him?" Nani asked, his tone a little more commanding than before.
The nurse blinked in surprise but nodded. "Of course, sir. I'll bring something right away."
Sky was about to protest, but Nani had already made up his mind. Without waiting for another word, Nani turned to Lisa. "Rest here," he said softly, giving her a reassuring smile. "Win will stay with you."
Win nodded and took a seat beside Lisa, his usual playful demeanor now replaced by a quiet concern. Nani then gestured for Sky to follow him, leading him to the nurse who was waiting to assist with his injury.
As they entered the small treatment room, the doctor took one look at Sky's hand and frowned. "This scratch is a bit deep. It will need to be stitched up."
Sky's face immediately paled, his eyes wide. Nani blinked in confusion. He didn't quite understand the sudden panic in Sky's eyes.
The doctor was already preparing the necessary supplies, but Sky wasn't calming down. His hands started to tremble.
Realization hit Nani all at once, Sky was scared of needles.
"Sky" Nani said softly, his voice gentle as he reached for Sky's shaking hand. Sky flinched a little at the touch, but Nani didn't let go. "It's just a quick stitch. You'll be fine," he added, looking Sky in the eyes. "Trust me."
Sky's eyes flickered between Nani and the needle, his body frozen. The doctor started to move, but Sky's gaze stayed fixed on the needle, his face pale with worry.
Without thinking, Nani stepped closer. He gently placed his free hand on Sky's face, softly closing his eyes with his palm. Sky blinked in surprise, his body tense, but Nani's calm voice reached him.
"Focus on me, not the needle." Nani's voice was firm but comforting.
Sky didn't say anything, but Nani could feel him relax a little as Nani standing near Sky who sit for the doctor to treat his wound. Nani still wrapped one arm around Sky's eyes while holding Sky's hand tightly.
Sky's breathing slowly calmed, and the tightness in his body eased. The warmth of Nani's presence made him feel safe, and for the first time seeing the needle, he was able to breathe easy.
The doctor's voice broke the silence. "All done," he said.
Sky opened his eyes, meeting Nani's gaze before looking down at his hand, now stitched up. His heart was still racing, but there was a quiet peace in the way Nani had been there for him, something he couldn't explain.
Nani smiled at him. "See? You're okay now."
Dew had been standing at the door, quietly observing everything that was happening inside. He hadn't meant to eavesdrop, but something about the scene in front of him caught his attention.
He had come to find Nani and Sky, as Win had asked, but what he hadn't expected was to witness Nani's softer side for the first time in his life. Nani, his heartless friend, never really letting anyone get too close. But this? This was something completely different.
The car ride was quiet at first, but Dew couldn't help himself. He leaned forward and made a dramatic, silent gesture, pointing at Nani and then mouthing "Sky".
Win, ever the troublemaker, picked up on it right away. "So, Dew, I saw you watching back there. You seemed pretty into how Nani was with Sky. What's the deal?"
Dew looked completely innocent, even though his grin was a dead giveaway. "What do you mean? I didn't see anything weird. Just observing."
Dew shrugged casually, pretending to be nonchalant. "I was just amazed at how nice Nani was. You know, for a guy who usually acts like he's got a stick up his—"
Win interrupted, grinning. "We both know you're lying. Nice? Come on, he was more like protective. Did you see how he held Sky's hand and shoulder? That's not 'nice,' that's straight-up 'I'm-protecting-you-from-needles' kind of care."
Dew's eyes lit up with amusement. "Protective? You think there's something going on between them?"
Win leaned in and whispered, pretending Nani couldn't hear a word. "I don't know, but you should ask Nani. He looks like he's been carrying Sky around like a kid."
Dew laughed. "Yeah, sure. I'll ask him. He'll totally tell me the truth." He turned to Nani, who was still focused on driving, clearly aware of the teasing show happening right behind him. "Right, Nani?"
Nani let out a sharp laugh at his friend's show, his eyes still on the road. "You're asking the wrong guy."
Win raised his hands in mock surrender. "Hey, we're just curious. It's not every day we see you show a softer side, man."
"I just helped him since it looked like he was really scared of the needle. He's just an innocent kid, okay? Don't get the wrong idea."
Win raised an eyebrow, clearly not convinced. "Khun Nani, who are you trying to fool? Us? Or yourself? If it were either of us scared of needles, you'd be kicking us out of the room, not holding our hand like that."
Dew couldn't help but burst out laughing. "Yeah! You're practically giving Sky the VIP treatment over here! I'm starting to think there's more to this 'helping out' than you're letting on."
Nani rolled his eyes but kept his hands steady on the wheel "Don't ask if you still don't believe it."
Win chuckled "Oh, we believe it, alright. Just keep telling yourself that, Nani. We all saw what happened."
Dew leaned forward, a mischievous glint in his eye. "Yeah, sure, you're just helping your 'innocent kid,' right?"
Nani groaned, already knowing this was going to be a long drive.
