Chapter 33
The moment Nani was discharged from the hospital, he wasted no time. His body ached, the wound on his side still visible, but none of that mattered to him.
As he stood in his private room, Nani's gaze never wavered from the door, his voice commanding. "Bring me the suit. I need to go to the office."
Win and Dew exchanged nervous glances. They had tried to persuade him to take the day off, to let his body heal. But it was no use.
"You need to rest. You're not in a state to work." Dew said
But Nani only shook his head "Get me my suit."
Win and Dew exchanged a look, their silent communication clear. This was their last shot to get Nani to listen. If there was any chance of stopping him, they had to use the one person they knew could make Nani hesitate, Sky.
Win took a deep breath, then casually raised his phone, already hovering over Sky's contact. "What if Sky finds out?"
Nani's voice sharpened. "Win."
Win ignored the warning, his finger hovering over the screen with a slight smirk. "What? If you don't listen, I'll call him. I'm sure Sky will drop everything and fly here immediately to check on you. And you know that's the last thing you want right now."
Nani's jaw tightened, his eyes narrowing as he glared at Win. He didn't respond, instead turning away to begin changing into his suit. Every movement was sharp, deliberate, as he refused to give Win the satisfaction of seeing his weakness.
As Nani finished adjusting his suit, he heard Win dialing the number. The phone call was already in progress.
Without a second thought, Nani spun around, snatching Win's phone out of his hand. His fingers gripped the phone tightly as he spoke, his voice soft yet edged with cold determination. "Sky?"
Win raised an eyebrow but didn't speak, watching Nani as he reluctantly took the call.
After a moment on the phone with Sky, Nani let out a long breath, frustration clear in his eyes. He threw Win's phone back at him with a quick motion. "Fine" he muttered, his voice edged with resignation. "I'll go back to my condo."
"This is the last time I'm letting you pull this trick, Win. Try it again, and you're dead for sure."
Win only grinned, catching his phone with ease. "Yeah, yeah. I've heard that before. But guess what? It works every time."
Dew sighed in relief, but he wisely kept his mouth shut. If Nani was already this annoyed, anything else might push him over the edge.
Nani exhaled sharply, adjusting his cufflinks with more force than necessary. He hated this. Hated how easily Sky could make him back down without even being here.
Just the thought of Sky's worried voice had been enough to make him hesitate. He was supposed to be in control, supposed to make his own decisions. And yet, here he was, heading back to his condo instead of his office, all because of Sky.
Nani arrived at his condo with two of his men trailing behind. Normally, he hated having anyone follow him around, but Prim had insisted. She was worried and refused to let her brother put himself in danger again.
As soon as he stepped inside, Nani made a beeline for his room, ignoring everything else. But just as he was about to shut the door, a knock came. His men were stationed outside his condo, as per Prim's request, but he had already decided he'd send them away after a while.
One of them stepped in. "Khun Nani, Perth wants to have a word with you."
At that, Nani let out a sharp, humorless laugh. "Let him in."
Perth walked inside, flanked by Nani's men on either side, though Nani didn't seem the least bit concerned about his safety. Perth's gaze flickered around the room before landing on something nearby. His expression darkened the moment he saw it, a framed photo of Nani and Sky sitting on a table. Just one look was enough for Perth to realize that the man in the picture wasn't just anyone. He was special.
Anger flickered in Perth's eyes. He didn't know that Chimon was Nani's cousin. All he could see was that Nani already had someone else, and yet, he was still toying with Chimon.
"You bastard" Perth seethed. "How could you do this to Chimon?"
Nani's expression remained unreadable, but there was amusement in his voice when he spoke. "You really are the most idiotic man I've ever seen."
"If you actually thought barging in here would magically solve your problem, think again. I'm not here to give you answers." His voice turned cold, sharp. "If you really want Chimon, figure it out yourself."
Perth's hands clenched into fists. "You—"
"How do you plan on taking care of Chimon" Nani continued, cutting him off "when you can't even solve this on your own?" With that, he flicked his fingers toward his men, signaling them to drag Perth out.
But before they could move, Perth suddenly lunged forward, grabbing Nani by the collar. His grip was tight, his eyes burning with fury. "How could you do this to Chimon, you cheater?"
Nani's patience snapped. Without hesitation, he swung his fist, landing a sharp punch across Perth's face. Perth staggered back, but Nani didn't stop there. His voice remained icy, unwavering.
"You're the stupid one, Perth," he spat. "If Chimon didn't care about you, he wouldn't still be here. I've told him multiple times to leave, to go abroad, to stay far away from all of this. But he hasn't. Why do you think that is?"
Perth froze. He had expected Nani to deny everything, to brush him off, but this... this caught him off guard.
Nani scoffed, straightening his suit. "Figure it out yourself. And until you do, don't waste my time."
As soon as Perth was dragged out, the room fell into silence.
Nani let out a slow breath and sank onto the couch, his body heavy with exhaustion. He leaned back, closing his eyes for a moment, trying to push away the lingering frustration. His fingers absentmindedly traced the edge of his wound, not enough to hurt, just enough to remind himself that he was still here, still dealing with everything.
His gaze flickered to the framed photo on the table. Sky's familiar smile stared back at him, warm and full of life, a stark contrast to the cold emptiness of the room.
Nani exhaled sharply.
It would be nice if Sky were here.
At least then, there'd be someone who truly understood him.
