Chapter 38
When Nani and Sky stepped into the company, all eyes turned toward them. A wave of surprise swept through the employees as they realized Sky was already back from Italy.
"Sky! You're back already?"
"How was Italy? Did you have fun?"
"Did you bring us souvenirs?"
Sky barely had time to process the flood of questions. before Nani casually patted his shoulder and walked away toward his office, leaving him surrounded by a curious crowd.
Nani sat at his desk, flipping through the contract he had meticulously prepared for Sky. His uncle owned a well-respected architecture company and had offered Sky a position, but Nani had taken it a step further. He had bought shares in his uncle's company and put them under Sky's name, Sky's name alone.
And just like that, the entire family found out about his relationship with Sky.
The door to his office swung open, and in walked Win, his face twisted into an expression of pure suffering. His hangover from last night was written all over his face.
"Ugh, I feel like death" he groaned, flopping onto the couch dramatically.
A minute later, Dew strolled in, looking far more put together. Without a word, he placed a cup of coffee on Nani's desk, then his eyes landed on the contract. He picked it up, scanning through the details before raising an eyebrow.
"You always complain that Sky is spoiled like a kid." Dew said, setting the papers down, "but don't you realize you're the reason he's acting spoiled?"
Nani clicked his tongue, pretending not to care.
Win's mood suddenly lifted upon hearing Dew's words. His hangover miraculously forgotten, he sat up straight, a mischievous grin spreading across his face. "Nani" he drawled "Uncle said you bought shares in his company and put them under Sky's name. Man, Sky doesn't even have to do anything at this point."
Dew hummed in agreement. "At this rate, you're setting him up to be a young master."
Nani scowled at them, but neither of them looked the least bit intimidated.
Win leaned back on the couch, grinning wider. "Admit it, you're so whipped."
Dew smirked. "Completely and utterly gone."
Nani let out a long sigh, pinching the bridge of his nose. "I know that. You don't have to remind me every five minutes."
Win and Dew exchanged a glance before bursting into laughter, thoroughly enjoying Nani's suffering.
After a while, Sky walked into the office, his hands full of snacks and drinks that Nani's employees had eagerly given him. The moment he stepped in, he beamed at Nani.
"Oh! By the way, your staff asked if we could have a little party after work," Sky said casually, setting the snacks down on Nani's desk. "I told them yes."
Nani raised an eyebrow. "You agreed immediately?"
Before Nani could say anything more, Dew and Win both let out amused whistles.
"Well, well, looks like someone is the real boss around here now" Dew teased, smirking.
"Yeah, Nani, I don't think this is your company anymore." Win added, laughing. "Sky's taken over."
Nani sighed, shaking his head, but the small smile tugging at his lips didn't go unnoticed.
"Alright, enough. Both of you, back to your offices. You've been annoying enough."
Win and Dew snickered but obeyed, turning to leave. Just as they reached the door, Win leaned in and whispered something into Sky's ear, making Sky's eyes widen slightly.
Nani's sharp gaze immediately locked onto them. "Win," he warned coldly, his voice laced with quiet threat.
Win grinned, unfazed. "Relax, boss. I was just telling Sky that you've already planned out his entire future."
Before Nani could say anything, Win and Dew burst into laughter and quickly slipped out of the office, leaving Sky blinking at Nani in surprise.
Sky blinked in confusion as Nani motioned for him to come closer. Obediently, he stepped near the desk, expecting Nani to hand him something. But instead, Nani stood up, grabbed Sky's wrist, and smoothly pulled him down into his chair.
Before Sky could process what was happening, Nani settled himself comfortably onto Sky's lap, his arms lazily draping around Sky's shoulders.
Sky's brain short-circuited. "Uh... what are you doing?"
Nani smirked, completely unfazed. "Sitting."
Sky's hands, acting on instinct, found their way to Nani's waist, holding him steady. His confusion only grew as he stared at Nani, who looked far too relaxed for someone currently sitting on his lap, in his own office chair, no less.
"You have a perfectly good chair, you know?" Sky pointed out, still trying to wrap his head around the situation.
"I like this one better," Nani replied smoothly, tilting his head slightly. "It comes with you."
Sky felt his face heat up instantly. "You're ridiculous."
"And yet, you're still holding me," Nani teased, his voice dropping just enough to make Sky's heart do an embarrassing flip.
Nani picked up the contract, flipping through the pages casually, though he already knew every detail inside.
Sky, still holding onto him tightly, rested his chin on Nani's shoulder. "What's that?" he mumbled, his voice slightly muffled against Nani's suit.
"My uncle is offering you a position at his company," Nani said smoothly, pretending to ask like it was just a casual suggestion. "Are you interested?"
Sky perked up immediately, his arms tightening around Nani. "Really?"
Nani hummed in response, already knowing what the answer would be. Sky would agree to anything he offered, he always did.
As expected, Sky beamed. "Of course! I'd love to work there!"
But a moment later, his excitement wavered, and he hesitated. "...But I just finished school. I don't have any real experience yet." His fingers fidgeted slightly against Nani's waist, a small sign of his nerves.
Nani turned his head slightly, a rare softness in his gaze. "That's not a problem," he said simply. "You'll learn."
Sky pouted slightly. "What if I mess up?"
Nani smirked, tilting his head just enough to brush his lips against Sky's cheek. "Then I'll be there to fix it."
Around the afternoon, Sky was still lounging on the couch in Nani's office, his laptop balanced on his lap as he typed away with a rare look of focus.
Nani lifted his head from his own work, his gaze naturally drifting toward Sky. Watching him so deep in concentration, brows slightly furrowed, lips unconsciously pouting—it was a sight Nani didn't see often. Sky was always playful, always clinging to him like a spoiled kid, so seeing this serious side of him felt almost foreign.
A small chuckle escaped Nani before he could stop it. At the sound, Sky glanced up, blinking in confusion. Just as Nani was about to step toward Sky, the door suddenly swung open with force.
Lisa, Nani's secretary, hurriedly trailed behind the intruder, trying to stop him. "Mr. Perth, you can't just barge in—"
But Perth ignored her completely, his sharp eyes scanning the room before locking onto Nani. "Where's Chimon?" he demanded.
Nani's expression turned ice-cold in an instant. "How would I know?" he replied flatly, his tone void of any warmth.
Sky, still sitting on the couch, stiffened. He had never seen Nani like this not around him, at least. It was unnerving.
Perth scoffed, stepping forward aggressively. "Don't play dumb. You always know where he is."
Nani's jaw clenched. "And I said, I don't."
The tension in the room grew thick, and before it could escalate further, Sky quickly stood up. Without hesitation, he moved in front of Nani, blocking Perth's path with his taller, stronger frame. His eyes darkened.
"Back off" Sky said firmly, placing a hand on Perth's shoulder and pushing him back slightly. His voice wasn't loud, but the authority in it was enough to make Perth pause.
Perth narrowed his eyes, clearly surprised by Sky's interference. "And who the hell are you?"
Sky didn't flinch. "Someone who won't let you disrespect Nani in his own office."
For a moment, no one spoke. Nani looked at Sky, Nani wasn't used to this. He was always the one protecting others, always the one standing firm but now, Sky was the one shielding him. And the way Sky stood in front of him, unwavering and strong, made something stir deep inside Nani's chest.
Perth scoffed, glancing between them. "Seriously? Since when did you need someone to fight your battles, Nani?"
Sky's jaw tightened. "He doesn't need anyone" he said coolly. "But I won't stand by and let you throw a tantrum in his office."
Perth let out a short, humorless laugh. "You've got guts, I'll give you that." His eyes flickered back to Nani, his expression unreadable.
"Instead of barging into my office demanding answers, maybe you should start asking yourself why Chimon ran away from you in the first place." Nani said slowly, his voice low and deadly.
Perth's brows furrowed, confusion flickering across his face, but Nani wasn't done. He took a step forward this time, the difference in his posture almost predatory.
"You think you're entitled to answers just because you're upset?" Nani's voice was eerily calm, but there was an underlying sharpness to it, like a blade hidden beneath silk. "People don't run without a reason, Perth. And if Chimon ran from you, you are the reason."
Perth scoffed, but it was weaker this time, as if something inside him wavered. "You don't know anything" he muttered.
Nani smirked, but it wasn't amused, it was cruel. "Don't I?" His voice dropped even lower, almost a whisper now, but it carried enough weight to make Perth stiffen. "You can lie to yourself all you want, but deep down, you know why he left."
The room felt suffocating. Even Sky, who had never seen Nani like this, felt a chill run down his spine. He had always known Nani could be intimidating, but this was different. This was the Nani who didn't just win against people, he crushed them.
Nani took another step forward, his presence looming, suffocating. His voice dropped to a chilling whisper, laced with quiet menace.
"Think long and hard before you embarrass yourself any further" he said, his gaze sharp enough to cut.
"And listen carefully, because I won't say it again, don't step foot in my office unless you've finally learned how to use that damn brain of yours."
The air around them felt heavy, like a storm waiting to break. Sky could feel it so could everyone else.
Perth hesitated, his fingers twitching at his sides, but Nani didn't spare him another second of attention. Without a word, he turned away, his indifference cutting deeper than any insult.
Reaching for Sky's hand, Nani clasped it firmly and walked away, not bothering to look back. His silence was final.
